Mato offers three pricing tiers: Launch, Business, and Network. Each tier includes core podcast production capabilities. Higher tiers unlock additional content types, customization options, and support levels.

For current prices, visit the pricing page. This article covers what each plan includes, how plan selection works, and how to manage your subscription.

Plan tiers

Launch

Built for teams producing their first podcast. Launch covers AI-generated discussions and topic episodes with broadcast-quality audio, transcripts, show notes, FAQ generation, cover art, audiograms, and distribution to 150+ platforms.

Business

Everything in Launch, plus live AI interviews, TikTok/Reels clips, voice cloning, ad insertion, and dedicated support.

Network

Built for media networks running multiple shows across verticals. Everything in Business, plus white-label deployment, API access, custom voice training, dedicated infrastructure, and SLA guarantees.

Network pricing is custom and per-show. To get started, click Get started on the Network card during onboarding (or from the billing page) and the Mato sales team will reach out.

Pricing structure

Launch and Business are billed monthly at a flat base rate plus a per-episode fee. The per-episode fee covers AI host time, audio production, transcripts, show notes, and cover art for each episode.

Network uses per-show pricing with a custom base rate, plus a per-episode fee. A revenue-share option is also available for Network accounts.

Check the pricing page for current rates. The billing page inside your workspace also shows an estimated monthly cost breakdown based on your plan and episode count.

Plan selection during onboarding

When you create a team account during onboarding, Mato shows the plan selection step after you name your workspace. The screen displays all three plan cards side by side.

  1. Click a plan card to select it, or click Get started on the card you want.
  2. For Launch or Business, Mato opens an embedded Stripe checkout form where you enter payment details. After successful payment, Mato moves you to the optional teammate invite step.
  3. For Network, Mato redirects you to a confirmation page. The sales team will follow up to discuss custom pricing. You can click Back to plans to choose a different plan instead.

At the bottom of the plan selection screen, an Explore plan features button opens a modal with a side-by-side comparison of all plans and their included features.

Personal accounts (created when you choose "For personal use" during onboarding) skip the plan selection step entirely.

Plan selection from the billing page

If your team does not have an active plan, you can select one from the billing page at any time.

  1. Open your team workspace and click Billing in the sidebar.
  2. The billing page shows the same three plan cards as onboarding. Select Launch or Business to start a Stripe checkout, or select Network to contact sales.
  3. After checkout completes, the billing page updates to show your active subscription details.

Only Owners can start a checkout or manage the subscription. If you are a Member, the billing page shows a message directing you to your team owner.

Billing gate behavior

When a team has no active plan, Mato blocks podcast creation and episode generation. A non-dismissible modal appears with the heading "Get started with Mato" and a prompt to activate a plan. The modal has two buttons: Go Back and Upgrade Plan. Clicking Upgrade Plan takes you to the billing page.

If you are redirected to the billing page because a plan is required, a yellow notice banner appears at the top: "Choose a plan to open your workspace."

Stripe checkout

Mato uses Stripe for payment processing. When you click Get started on a Launch or Business plan, Mato creates a Stripe checkout session and displays an embedded checkout form directly in the page. You do not leave Mato to complete payment.

After payment succeeds, Stripe sends a webhook to Mato. The webhook activates your subscription and associates it with your team account. The billing page then shows your subscription status, current plan, and a link to the Stripe billing portal.

Managing your subscription

Once you have an active subscription, the billing page shows:

  • Monthly cost estimate. A breakdown of your base fee, per-episode charges, API costs, and estimated total for the current billing period.
  • Current subscription card. Your plan name, status, and billing cycle.
  • Manage subscription button. Opens the Stripe billing portal where you can update your payment method, view invoices, or change your plan.

Upgrading

To move to a higher tier, open the Stripe billing portal from the billing page and select a new plan. Stripe prorates the difference for the current billing period. Your new features become available immediately after the upgrade processes.

Downgrading

To move to a lower tier, open the Stripe billing portal and select the lower plan. The downgrade takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You keep access to your current plan's features until then.

Features that require a higher plan (like live AI interviews on Launch) will show a locked state after the downgrade. The lock overlay names the plan required and links to the billing page.

Cancellation

Cancel your subscription through the Stripe billing portal. After cancellation, your plan stays active until the end of the current billing period. Once it expires, the billing gate applies and your team can no longer generate new episodes. Existing episodes, scripts, and audio files remain accessible.

Support-assigned plans

In some cases, the Mato team assigns a plan directly to your account (for example, during a pilot program or a custom arrangement). When this happens, the billing page shows a banner: "Your plan is managed by Mato support." The banner displays your plan name and any notes from the team.

Support-assigned plans work the same as Stripe subscriptions for feature access and usage tracking. To change a support-assigned plan, contact Mato support.

Feature gates

Some features are restricted to specific plan tiers. When you try to access a gated feature on a plan that does not include it, Mato shows one of two UI treatments:

  • Block gate. A card with a lock icon, the feature name, a note about which plan is required, and an Upgrade button that links to the billing page.
  • Inline gate. A dimmed, non-clickable version of the button or control with a lock icon overlay. Hovering shows a tooltip naming the required plan.

The gated features and their minimum required plans:

FeatureMinimum plan
Live AI interviewsBusiness
Voice cloningBusiness
API accessNetwork
Custom voice trainingNetwork

Monthly cost estimate

The billing page includes a cost estimate card that breaks down your expected charges for the current month:

  • Base fee. Your plan's monthly rate (or a per-show rate for Network plans).
  • Episode fees. The per-episode fee multiplied by the number of episodes generated this month.
  • API cost. Any usage-based API charges.
  • Total. The sum of base, episode, and API costs.

The estimate updates as you generate episodes throughout the month. It does not include taxes or revenue-share amounts.

For Network plans with no active shows, the card displays the per-show rate and a note to add a show before a total estimate can be calculated.
