AI connections let an outside AI assistant, such as Claude, read and act on a Mato workspace on your behalf, using the Model Context Protocol (MCP). This is separate from the AI models Mato itself uses to write scripts and generate audio.
Open AI connections
Click Workspace settings at the bottom of the sidebar, then open the AI connections tab.
The page shows an MCP server URL and a list of active connections for the current workspace. With nothing connected yet, it reads "No AI connections yet."
Connect an assistant
- Copy the MCP server URL shown at the top of the page.
- In your assistant's own settings, add a new MCP connection and paste the URL.
- The assistant redirects you to Mato to sign in and authorize the connection.
- On the authorization screen, choose up to 20 workspaces this assistant can access. Each MCP action the assistant takes selects one of the workspaces you approved.
- Review the requested permissions, then confirm.
By default, an assistant gets read access: it can read podcasts, episodes, statistics, and rankings. If the assistant also requests podcast and episode creation, that permission is listed separately during authorization. Episodes an assistant generates stay in draft for your review; generation still counts against your workspace's plan allowance.
If your assistant's return address is a localhost URL, keep its sign-in window open and finish the connection promptly. If the return page refuses the connection, start sign-in again from the assistant rather than reusing an old link.
Manage a connection
Each connection on the AI connections page shows the assistant's name, its client ID, when it was connected, its granted permissions, and the workspaces it can access.
To remove a workspace from a connection without breaking the whole connection, disconnect from within that workspace's own AI connections page; the other authorized workspaces stay connected. To end the connection entirely, click Disconnect. This can also be done from the assistant's own side.
Troubleshooting
AI connections are temporarily unavailable. Mato could not reach the connection store. Try again shortly; existing connections are unaffected.
The connection request could not be validated. Start a new connection from your assistant rather than reusing an old authorization link.
You have no AI connections for this workspace. No assistant has been connected yet, or every connection was disconnected. Connecting an assistant from a different workspace does not carry over; each workspace needs its own authorization.
