Mato generates a transcript automatically once an episode's audio finishes rendering. You do not request it: it appears on the episode's Transcript tab as soon as the audio pipeline produces it.
This guide covers what a transcript line looks like, what you can and cannot edit, and how to search and export it.
Open the transcript
Open the episode and click Transcript in the tab bar. If audio has not finished generating yet, the tab shows "No transcript yet. The transcript is made from the finished audio. It appears here once the episode is voiced." If the episode has a transcript that Mato cannot load, the tab shows "Transcript unavailable. The transcript could not be loaded." instead, with Try again and Go to the audio buttons. If it keeps failing, regenerating the audio rebuilds the transcript.
Read a line
Each line shows a timestamp, a play button, a speaker label (when Mato could identify one), and the line's text. The speaker names on the first distinct speaker are highlighted so you can scan who is talking at a glance.
Click a line's play button to jump the player to that moment. Playback runs through Mato's shared player bar, the same one used across the app, not a separate player embedded in this tab. If the episode is not already loaded there, clicking play loads it and starts from that line.
While the episode plays, the transcript automatically scrolls to keep the current line in view. If you scroll manually, Mato leaves the view alone for a few seconds before resuming auto-scroll.
Edit text
Click any line's text to turn it into an editable field. Press Enter to save the change, or Escape to cancel. Only the text is editable. Mato does not currently support renaming a speaker, reassigning a line to a different speaker, or adjusting a line's timing from this tab.
Search the transcript
Use the search field at the top to filter lines by text or speaker name. If nothing matches, the tab shows "No lines match" with your search term.
Save your edits
Edits do not save automatically. Once you have unsaved changes, a save bar appears showing how many edits are pending, with Discard and Save buttons. You can also save with Cmd+S (Mac) or Ctrl+S (Windows).
If you try to navigate away with unsaved edits, Mato asks whether to discard them, stay on the page, or save and leave.
The transcript rail
A rail alongside the transcript shows three things: a Speakers list with a turn count per speaker (labeled "Host" for names that match one of the show's configured hosts), a Transcript summary with status, turn count, and word count, and an Export card.
Export the transcript
The Export card offers three formats: SRT, VTT, and Plain text. Each downloads directly from your browser using whatever is currently on screen, including edits you have not saved yet. The plain text export drops speaker labels and timestamps and keeps only the spoken lines.
