Becca HartwellTchau.

Danny ReyesBack to the Plumbob Report.

Speaker 3Danny here, and Becca's right next to me, and we've got a packed one today.

Danny ReyesIt's been a big week for The Sims community, honestly.

Speaker 3Big week, weird week, kind of a wild week.

Danny ReyesFair.

Speaker 3Wait, so EA actually did the autosave thing?

Danny ReyesThey did. Twelve years, Danny. Twelve.

Speaker 3No way they sat on that feature this long.

Danny ReyesI lost a house to a rolling blackout once. I'm... I'm still not over it.

Speaker 3We'll get into the July 21st patch and whatever else snuck in there.

Danny ReyesSpeaking of which, we're also getting into the EA buyout news.

Speaker 3Yeah, the EU's reportedly closing in on approving that $55 billion Saudi-backed deal.

Danny ReyesAnd there's a former Sims artist who's not staying quiet about what that could mean for the game's future.

Speaker 3Real conversation, not just numbers on a page.

Danny ReyesBefore any of that, though, we're bouncing Something into something way lighter.

Speaker 3Oh, the Music Den Kit?

Danny ReyesAnd the Coach Capsule Collection. Free stuff, people.

Speaker 3Motherlode energy right there.

Danny ReyesOkay, save that one for later.

Speaker 3No promises.

Danny ReyesAnd we'll wander into what's happening across the wider life sim world, too.

Speaker 3There's always something going on over there.

Danny ReyesAll right, let's start where the community's been waiting 12 years.

Speaker 3The patch notes. Let's go. Do

Danny ReyesWe want to hear from you. Submit questions via the web form in the description or give us a call at 747-677-1037 and leave your question. Dont be shy. Our AI assistant makes it super easy. Okay, wait, I have to say this out loud. Autosave is real. Twelve years, and it's actually happening!

Speaker 3I feel like I've been manifesting this since 2014. No joke.

Danny ReyesPaulo Montenegro over at Ubergizmo broke this Friday. The autosave system lands in the free update on July 21st, 2026.

Speaker 3Almost Twelve years to the day since launch, right? Right? Thats wild.

Danny ReyesIt really is. I remember losing a whole three-generation legacy family to a crash back in 2015. I never recovered emotionally.

Speaker 3That Sim family is NOT okay. Rest in peace to your legacy save.

Danny ReyesExactly! And that's exactly why the community's been begging for it since day one.

Speaker 3Newbu Fever had a whole tutorial and countdown piece leading up to this, prepping players for what to expect in the July patch.

Danny ReyesRight, and then the actual patch notes dropped today. Author release notes posted the full breakdown across PC, Mac, Xbox, and PlayStation.

Speaker 3Okay, give me the good stuff. What's actually in the save system update?

Danny ReyesIt's not just the save timer. Newbu Fever's patch overview flags a handful of underlying save file fixes bundled in with it.

Speaker 3Oh, that's huge. Half the crash horror stories weren't even about forgetting to hit save. The file itself was corrupting.

Danny ReyesRight. And Newbu Fever's earlier piece said the team's been prioritizing bug fixes this whole content drought. So this is that work paying off.

Speaker 3A content drought and they use it to finally build the save system. Kind of poetic.

Danny ReyesThis gives me old-school patch energy. Back when a random update would quietly fix something huge nobody expected.

Speaker 3And forget checking your Sim's needs bar constantly. You'd tab out for one Discord message and lose an hour.

Danny ReyesThe amount of Sims lore I've lost to Discord notifications is honestly embarrassing.

Speaker 3For anyone who forgot the pain, what was the actual failure mode here?

Danny ReyesYou'd play for hours, forget to save, game crashes, and boom, gone. No warning, no safety net.

Speaker 3And we just lived like that for twelve years?

Danny ReyesWe lived like that for twelve years, Danny. OpenCritic called it something fans have wanted since the game launched, and honestly, that headline says it all.

Speaker 3Wanted is generous. We were sending EA strongly worded forum posts back in like 2009.

Danny ReyesSo now the real question is, does it work well? Does it save often enough? Does it lag the game out?

Speaker 3That's the test. Announcing autosave is easy. Auto save that doesn't tank your frame rate every 90 seconds is the hard part.

Danny ReyesI want to see how community testing goes once people actually get hands on it.

Speaker 3They'll stress test this within six hours guaranteed. Someone's got a hundred Sim household ready to go.

Danny ReyesA hundred percent. Stepping back, though, this is one of those moments where EA actually listened.

Speaker 3It is, which makes you wonder. Because EA is making a lot of business moves this year that aren't just patch notes, especially

Danny ReyesYeah,

Speaker 3:

Danny Reyeswill that let's fix things for players energy survive everything else going on with the company right now?

Speaker 3with the size of the business decisions on the table this month. That's a real question mark.

Danny ReyesSo, that question about player-first energy, it doesn't stay hypothetical for long.

Speaker 3Yeah, because this week the EU basically said yes.

Danny ReyesRight, Jovan reported for Sims Community that the EU is set to approve the $55 billion Saudi-backed buyout of EA.

Speaker 355 billion and Saudi's PIF, the major stakeholder, has been pushing for approval by By end of month according to that same report.

Danny ReyesThat's a lot of money attached to a company that also makes The Sims.

Speaker 4Mm-hmm.

Speaker 3It's EA, Battlefield, Madden, all under one new ownership structure, basically.

Danny ReyesAnd GameSpot ran a piece too; the headline was that EA is "mostly" nudging Sims four in the right direction.

Speaker 3Mostly. That word's doing a LOT of work in that headline. line

Danny ReyesRight? Twelve years in and 'mostly' is the compliment we're working with.

Speaker 3But here's what worries me more than a boardroom deal: Rock Paper Shotgun ran an interview with a former Sims artist. Julian Benson's piece,

Danny Reyesyeah. And that artist said flat out they'd fight tooth and nail against any mandate to reduce the game's diversity.

Speaker 3That line stuck with me,

Danny Reyestoo. The Sims' whole identity for twenty some years has been Then build whoever you want to be. Games.gg picked up the same story,

Speaker 3Games.gg picked up the same story, basically the same warning that Saudi-backed ownership raises real questions about whether that stays intact.

Danny ReyesI don't want to fear monger.

Becca Hartwellhere, nobody's confirmed a rollback is actually coming.

Danny ReyesNo, and to be fair, no policy change has been announced, but the fact a developer felt the need to say that publicly tells you something about the mood inside the studio.

Becca HartwellYeah, tells you people are paying attention.

Danny ReyesAnd honestly, that's the community doing its job, watching the money so the creativity doesn't get quietly trimmed.

Becca HartwellSpeaking of money, Callum Bowyer had a piece where It's where EA's ads lead talked about the future of in game advertising across EA's franchises.

Danny ReyesOh, no! Please don't tell me billboards are coming to Willow Creek!

Becca HartwellNot confirmed for Sims specifically, but the exec was talking about ads across EA's biggest franchises, so it's on the radar.

Danny ReyesI'll believe it when my Sim's toilet has a sponsored flush sound.

Becca HartwellOkay, that's a visual.

Danny ReyesI'm just saying... Watch this space.

Becca HartwellWe'll keep an eye on the buyout, the diversity commitment, all of it.

Danny ReyesBecause those decisions land way past a boardroom. They land in build mode.

Becca HartwellOkay, on a much lighter note, because we need one after all that.

Danny ReyesPlease give me something fun.

Becca HartwellMaxis just teased a brand new kit and it's got instruments involved.

Danny ReyesOh, I've got thoughts. Let's get into it.

Becca HartwellOkay, flip the mood switch. Maxis has dropped something way more fun today.

Danny ReyesPlease tell me it's not another ad slot disguised as furniture.

Becca HartwellNo, no. Jovan reported EA and Maxis just revealed a free Coach Capsule Collection

Danny ReyesWow.

Becca Hartwelldropping alongside new details on the Music Den Kit.

Danny ReyesFree? Like actually free?

Becca HartwellActually free for console and PC. Jovan's piece says it's live in the marketplace right now.

Danny ReyesOkay, Motherlode energy right there. What's the Music Den Kit actually got going on?

Becca HartwellSo it's releasing July 26, 2026, Jovan confirmed the date, and it's packed with musically inspired furniture.

Danny ReyesInstruments, I'm hoping?

Becca HartwellInstruments! OpenCritic put out a first look, and it's giving band practice in your garage energy. Like proper stands, amps, the whole setup.

Danny ReyesThat's giving Sims 2 in the best way, honestly: GarageBand Conversion Starter Pack.

Becca HartwellRight?" And Jovan followed up with two new official screens showing the pieces in a build, the detailing on the speaker cabinets, chef's kiss.

Danny ReyesOkay, build tip tangent.

Becca HartwellI said it before you could.

Danny ReyesYou're going to use those amps as room dividers, aren't you?

Becca HartwellObviously. Don't judge me.

Danny ReyesNo judgment, so what else came out of the marketplace this week?

Becca HartwellJovan also covered three new Maker Packs: two free (the giant eraser lamp from HAENBI and the Lily Dress from Serenity),

Danny ReyesAnd one paid?

Becca Hartwellone paid, yeah.

Danny ReyesSo we get free lamps and free dresses, but somebody's got to pay for whatever the third one is.

Becca HartwellThat's basically the split: two freebies, one paid pick up.

Danny ReyesHonestly, not a bad ratio. The community creators making the free stuff, EA cashing in on the extra piece.

Becca Hartwellfeels about right for where the marketplace usually lands.

Danny ReyesOkay, but real talk. Maker Packs from actual community creators getting official placement? That's the part I like.

Becca HartwellTotally. It's nice seeing modders' work land in the storefront instead of buried on a forum somewhere.

Danny ReyesSpeaking of the wider world of tiny digital people, I'm

Becca HartwellOh, don't even tease it.

Danny Reyesteasing it. Paralives just had a huge patch. And apparently sold over a million copies.

Becca HartwellWait, we're doing that next?

Danny ReyesWe're doing that next.

Becca HartwellOkay, shifting gears, shifting gears, let's zoom out past the Plumb Bob for a sec.

Danny ReyesOh, I love this part. The whole life sim world's been busy.

Becca HartwellRight? So new Boohoo Fever put out this breakdown on Paralives, their July 16th patch added stuff like long chairs plus a bunch of stability fixes.

Danny ReyesAnd didn't they just crack a million copies sold?

Becca Hartwell1.1 million according to new Boohoo Fever's sales analysis. For an early access indie game, that's not nothing.

Danny ReyesMeanwhile, EA's out here just now adding autosave.

Becca HartwellI mean, fair.

Danny ReyesI'm not saying anything. I'm just saying the timing is funny.

Becca HartwellIt is funny, but honestly, competition's good for everybody.

Danny ReyesTotally. Speaking of competition, Tomodachi Life.

Becca HartwellOkay, so Krista over at Sims Community wrote this piece playing it fresh as a longtime Sims player.

Danny ReyesAnd there

Becca HartwellShe called it full of chaos, but genuinely cozy, like a different flavor of life's sim entirely.

Danny Reyeswas also that Straits Times piece, right, calling these games kind of a public square for lonely people?

Becca HartwellYeah, that one framed cozy life sims as filling a real gap for people feeling isolated. Interesting angle.

Danny ReyesIt's wild how much this genre means to people beyond just building houses.

Becca HartwellExactly. It's community. It's comfort. It's comfort, it's control when everything else feels chaotic.

Danny ReyesOkay, okay, but can we talk about the actual best news of this segment?

Becca HartwellGo.

Danny ReyesPeople.com just dropped the exclusive cover for...

Becca HartwellOkay, so today we finally got autosave in The Sims 4, and honestly, the fix under the hood matters even more than the feature itself.

Danny ReyesRight? No more losing your legacy save to a corrupted file. Wild that took 12 years.

Becca HartwellAnd then the buyout news hit, EU moving toward approving that Saudi-backed deal.

Danny ReyesWhich makes what that Sims artist said about fighting any diversity rollback stick with me even more.

Becca HartwellSame. So I guess this episode's takeaway is: small wins for players, bigger questions for where EA's headed.

Danny ReyesExactly. We're watching that one closely.

Becca HartwellOh, and go peek at the Music Den Kit. It's adorable.
