What the episode covers

In this episode of The Plumbob Report, Becca and Danny walk through the latest Sims 4 news as of October 7, 2026. They start with what EA's news index lists, move through community headlines about the Marketplace and Moola moving into the EA App, look at what developers have said about the October base-game update, and finish with the franchise's longer-term outlook.

Much of this week's news comes as headlines and short recaps, so the hosts are careful to separate what is confirmed from what is speculation. Listeners will come away knowing what has been reported, what remains unclear, and which original sources are worth reading directly.

  • Official news index: EA's listings include a Simstober Challenge post with Halloween-themed goals, an entry on Penny Pizzazz and the Style File Showdown, a free content and performance entry, and a CAS starter Sims entry. The hosts have seen only the index lines, so they encourage listeners to read the full posts.
  • Marketplace and Moola: Sims Community's October 6 headlines report that the Marketplace and Moola are being integrated into the EA App. The page does not explain what changes for players, and the Moola-transfer question remains open. The same roundup mentions two Maker Packs, an any-high-school mod, and an Autumn Sale featuring Paralives and InZOI.
  • October update preview: A community recap of a developer Discord Q&A says the update targets food, dining, and drinks, with a balance pass, Dine Out fixes, and attention to dirty dishes and leftovers. Lockable fridges and Family Recipes are only being explored, and an Island Living no-swim fix is planned for October without a guarantee.
  • Project Rene and the road ahead: PC Gamer's January 9, 2026 report says EA described Project Rene as a mobile-first social multiplayer life-sim, not a successor to Sims 4. The same EA post says the team is also working on Sims 4 and a future single-player PC and console experience.

Throughout the episode, Becca and Danny stress the difference between proposed, planned, and shipped features, and they favor reading sources over rumor.

Becca HartwellOkay, my Sims survived the patch, but I did not. I spent Twenty minutes watching one of them stand next to a pool just staring at it.

Danny ReyesAutonomy really said, "Nah, we're good."

Becca HartwellRight? No ladder, no swim, just vibes.

Danny ReyesThat Sim is NOT okay.

Becca HartwellTwenty minutes, Danny. I went and made tea, came back, and it was still just standing there like it was waiting for a bus.

Danny ReyesMaybe the pool is the bus. Maybe it's a very slow, very wet bus, and the ladder is the stop nobody built.

Becca HartwellSul sul, everybody. You're listening to The Plumbob Report. I'm Becca, and this is Danny, who is already vibrating.

Danny ReyesBecause I have news, Becca, Big news. The Marketplace and Moola are moving into the App.

Becca HartwellWait, really? Like the whole shop?

Danny ReyesThat's the headline, and I have thoughts, so many thoughts.

Becca HartwellOf course you do. You have a whole thread.

Danny ReyesI have a thread about the thread.

Becca HartwellIs the thread about the thread longer than the actual thread?

Danny ReyesBecca, it has chapters, Footnotes, a little section just for my feelings.

Becca HartwellOf course it does. Okay, here's the plan for today so everybody knows what they signed up for. A little of what EA itself has been posting lately, some community headlines, then what the devs have said about the next update and the bigger picture after that.

Danny ReyesFine. Fine. I'll sit on my hands.

Becca HartwellGood luck with that. So anyway, let's start with what EA itself has been posting lately because October is already spooky.

Danny ReyesSpooky season, my favorite time to be suspicious.

Becca HartwellOkay, so EA's Sims 4 news page lists a Simstober challenge post dated October 1st.

Danny ReyesHalloween goals?

Becca HartwellHalloween-themed goals. Yep, that's what the index says.

Danny ReyesOf course it is. Hand a Sim a Halloween to-do list and watch what happens.

Becca HartwellRight? Goal one, carve a pumpkin. Goal two, the Sim is somehow on fire.

Danny ReyesWait, that's not even a stretch.

Becca HartwellTotally.

Danny ReyesI'm picturing a whole household just haunting the mailbox for points.

Becca HartwellHere's the thing, though. I only know the post is about Halloween-themed goals. I don't know how many goals or whether they're rewards or how it works.

Danny ReyesRight, and I'm not going to guess. The challenge post could be a checklist, a contest, a vibe. The index just says Halloween-themed goals.

Becca HartwellWhich is honestly enough for me. Give me a theme and I'll build a whole household around it. A bunch of cousins, one haunted porch.

Danny ReyesAnd you'd make it everybody's problem. Classic.

Becca HartwellOkay, but the same news index also lists a September 10th entry about Penny Pizzazz and the Style File Showdown.

Danny ReyesOoh, is that a fashion thing? Is Penny the judge?

Becca HartwellI only know she's in the post title. Anything about judging or format is more than the index tells us. Then there's a late August entry about free content and a new performance cache.

Danny ReyesHold on, a performance cache in a news post?

Becca HartwellYeah. Um, I only know what the index line says, "Free content and a new performance cache." That's all it gives me.

Danny ReyesAnd that's the entry I actually want to read, free stuff and a performance cache? Sign me up.

Becca HartwellSame. And the index also lists a July 29th entry, new CAS Starter Sims.

Danny ReyesStarter Sims, finally. Somebody to click on besides the same six default faces I've been living with.

Becca HartwellYou know what I mean, though. Your very first household shouldn't look like a stock photo.

Danny ReyesOkay, back to that Style File Showdown. A showdown in a post title makes me think competition, but I don't know the format, so all I'll say is the title sounds like a dress up face-off.

Becca HartwellAnd that's the fun part of reading an index. You get the headline and your imagination does the rest.

Danny ReyesWhich for a Sims player is a dangerous amount of imagination.

Becca HartwellDangerous and free. Honestly, the dates are the interesting bit. July 29th, late August, September 10th, October 1st.

Danny ReyesSo EA has been posting steadily then.

Becca HartwellThat's what the page shows. I'm not claiming it's everything EA has ever posted, just what's on the index.

Danny ReyesFair. A trail of breadcrumbs, not a full map.

Becca HartwellExactly, and breadcrumbs are still fun to follow.

Danny ReyesAnd if you're curious, go read the actual posts, we're the Trailer, not the movie.

Becca HartwellTrailer with a laugh track. All we've got is a few lines from an index, so the full posts will have the real details.

Danny ReyesHmm, fair. So that's a nice trail of official stuff. Contests, free content, Starter Sims, Halloween goals.

Becca HartwellCozy, right? A little seasonal, a little housekeeping.

Danny ReyesAlmost suspiciously cozy, like the calm before a Sim wanders into a fire.

Becca HartwellOkay, practical question for listeners. If a challenge post exists, does it matter to you if you're not into Halloween?

Danny ReyesFor me, it's a free excuse. I don't need a prompt to wreck a household, but a prompt makes it feel official.

Becca HartwellFair. And for the builders, I'd guess a seasonal post is a nice nudge to open the game even if you haven't playing in a while.

Danny ReyesGuess being the key word. But yes, a little reason to come back to the save you abandoned in the middle of a renovation.

Becca HartwellStop. Now the community headlines where the real turn happened on October 6th.

Danny ReyesOoh, okay, I have thoughts, and a lot of them are in all caps.

Becca HartwellOkay, October 6th, Community's homepage had a headline that made me sit up. The EA App is now integrating The Sims 4 Marketplace and Moola.

Danny ReyesWait, Moola too? Like the actual currency?

Becca HartwellMoola too. That's what the Sims Community homepage lists right at the top of its latest posts. Huh. So your shopping cart just moves apartments. Your shopping cart gets a new landlord, and the page doesn't spell out what changes for us day to day. It's a headline, not a manual. But what would I even watch for? If I'm someone who buys something from the marketplace every so often, what changes for me? That's the honest answer. I don't know, and the page doesn't say. What I'd watch for is whether EA says anything official about how buying and spending works afterward. And I'd keep an eye on the usual places, official EA posts, like the news index we just talked about. Yep. The homepage gives us the headline. Confirmation would have to come from somewhere else. Right. So I'm not panicking yet. I'm just noticing. Noticing is the correct level. Now same day, two new Maker Packs showed up. Ooh, names? Organic Living Room and Dual Luxe Accessories. Organic Living Room. That is totally my couch energy. Earthy, plants everywhere, one weird lamp. The weird lamp is always there. Never fails. Totally. And Dual Luxe Accessories sounds like a Sim who owns two of everything and still wants a third. Two on the same day though, that's the part I keep chewing on. Because it feels like a lot at once or because of what comes next, the gap thing? Okay, but here's what makes it spicy. Sims Community also floats a theory. It speculates that the integration work explains a week-long gap in new Maker Packs. Hold on, a gap? So no Packs for a week, then two at once? That's the speculation. The site connects the quiet week to the store move. Mm, that actually tracks. If the store is getting rewired, you'd maybe hold the new stuff. Maybe. And I wanna be careful because that's the site guessing. Nobody confirmed it. It's a theory with a good vibe. A theory with a good vibe, which is how half the community runs, honestly. We love a theory, but I'd file this one under plausible, not proven. The week-long gap is on the page. The reason isn't. Fair. Gap is a fact. Why is a hunch.

Danny ReyesAnd if I'm a player, what does a week-long gap mean for me? Honestly, probably nothing I'd feel. But it's a good reminder not to build a whole story on one guess.

Becca HartwellRight. A quiet week on a release calendar isn't a crisis. It's just a thing somebody noticed and tried to explain.

Danny ReyesExactly. Okay, there's more on the homepage. Quick round?

Becca HartwellHit me.

Danny ReyesA mod that lets Sims attend high schools anywhere.

Becca HartwellAnywhere? No more being stuck in the one school world?

Danny ReyesThat's how the page puts it. Modders out here fixing the map for free again.

Becca HartwellHonestly, that's the sort of thing that makes a community. Somebody gets tired of a limit and just builds the way around it.

Danny ReyesAnd I'm only repeating the headline. I haven't seen the details, so no promises on how it works.

Becca HartwellBless them. Next.

Danny ReyesAn autumn sale featuring Paralives and InZOI.

Becca HartwellWait, really? Other life sims on The Sims homepage?

Danny ReyesRight there in the headlines. Competition is having a sale, and we're all just scrolling past it. It's a reminder that players have options, and the page lists them right next to our own games news.

Becca HartwellWhich I don't hate. I'm a Sims loyalist, but I like knowing what else is out there. I'm only reading a headline though, not a review of either one.

Danny ReyesAnd that's fair. Knowing the options doesn't make you disloyal. It just makes you informed.

Becca HartwellInformed and a little tempted, if I'm honest. My wallet is already nervous about the store news.

Danny ReyesOkay, I've got a dumb question. If the store is moving, does the Moola in my account move with it?

Becca HartwellThat's the thing I can't answer from this page. All it says is that the integration is happening.

Danny ReyesThen we hold that question for later. So that's the store side.

Becca HartwellMm-hmm. What about the game itself?

Danny ReyesThe devs have been talking October.

Becca HartwellOkay, October. A community recap of the developers' QoL Q&A in the official Sims Discord says the base game update is aimed at Food, Dining, and Drinks. Food? Finally. My Sims have been eating like raccoons for years. The recap lives on Sims Community, and the URL dates it September 15th. 15th. So this is the plan as of September, not a finished patch. Got it. So what's actually on the menu? A calorie and pricing balance pass, Dine Out bug fixes. Ooh. Now, I'll be honest, I don't know what the balance pass will change. Cheaper food, pricier food, fewer calories. The recap says a pass, not the specifics. Right, so nobody should plan a restaurant empire around it yet. But a pass on pricing at least tells me somebody's looking at it. And I love this one. The devs say they're looking at dirty dishes left in odd places. Wait, really? Really. Odd places. I know exactly which places. The bathroom, a plate on the toilet. The Autonomy really treats a dirty plate like a hot potato. Nobody wants it, so it lands anywhere. Right? Okay, what else? The recap says leftovers prioritization is in there too, meaning, um, Sims should deal with the food that's already in the fridge. Hold on. I need to be careful here. Does that say Sims will eat leftovers first or just that it's being looked at? Fair. The recap only says leftovers prioritization is planned work. I'm not going to invent the details. Good, because I can already hear the community deciding it's fixed forever. Oh, they will. Meanwhile, the recap says lockable fridges and more family recipes are being explored. Explored. That word is doing a lot of work. It's a small word with a big shrug. But a lockable fridge, Becca, think about the chaos it stops. Toddlers, roommates, that one Sim who eats the whole cake at 3:00 in the morning. And to be fair, I don't know what a lockable fridge would even look like. Who holds the key? Is it a household setting? Not in the recap. Which is the whole point of explored. It's brainstorming out loud. And then there's the one that got me. The devs say a proposed fix for the Island Living no swim option is planned for October. No way. Yes way. So the Sim that stares at the water and refuses, that one?

Danny ReyesThat's the option people have been fighting with, yeah. A proposed fix is planned for October.

Becca HartwellOkay, I'm excited. Cautiously, like dipping a toe in.

Danny ReyesAnd remember, it's a proposed fix. That word matters, too. Proposed, planned, and then it still has to land in a real update.

Becca HartwellProposed, planned, shipped. Three different check marks.

Danny ReyesGood instinct, because the devs also said that investigated items are not guaranteed to ship.

Becca HartwellAh, so the fix could be planned and the lockable fridge could be a dream.

Danny ReyesPlanned versus explored. Two different words, and they matter.

Becca HartwellWe've all been burned by a roadmap before.

Danny ReyesSo I'm cheering for the swim fix and the dish cleanup, but I'm not putting a towel on the chair until the patch notes land.

Becca HartwellSame. Honestly, if my Sims just put the plate in the sink, I'll throw a party.

Danny ReyesWhat would you actually want fixed first if you had to pick one?

Becca HartwellThe dishes. Easy. Swimming is funny when it's broken, but a plate on the toilet is a daily thing. Though I'm not saying that's what will ship.

Danny ReyesFair. And for the record, I'd put the pricing pass second just because I'm curious what it even touches.

Becca HartwellCurious is the right word. Until the notes land, it's all a list of intentions, and I'm okay with that.

Danny ReyesOkay. Fans keep asking where the franchise goes after all this. Buckle up, Becca. That's the big one.

Becca HartwellOkay, last stop, and it's the one where I try to stay cheerful.

Danny ReyesUh-oh, Becca's bringing the sunshine. I'm bringing the umbrella.

Becca HartwellProject Rene. PC Gamer covered it on January 9th, 2026 off EA's roadmap post.

Danny ReyesAnd the headline basically says it all. Fans wanted one thing, got another.

Becca HartwellRight. PC Gamer reported that EA described Project Rene as a mobile-first social multiplayer life sim.

Danny ReyesMobile first. Cool. So a phone game.

Becca HartwellMobile first, Danny. Not phone only. Come on, give it a second.

Danny ReyesFine, fine. But there's the other half. EA said it isn't the successor to The Sims 4.

Becca HartwellYeah, that part was loud and clear in the coverage.

Danny ReyesSo everybody who hoped Rene was the big next gen Sims just got a polite no.

Becca HartwellWhich is a bummer. I'm not gonna pretend otherwise. PC Gamer's piece captures that fan disappointment, and honestly, I get it.

Danny ReyesWait, I'm gonna be the one defending your feelings now? That's backwards.

Becca HartwellTake the win.

Danny ReyesSeriously, though, why do you think the disappointment hit so hard? It's one post.

Becca HartwellBecause fans were hoping for something else, and the coverage captures that. A company saying what something isn't can land as loudly as what it is.

Danny ReyesAnd does mobile-first change anything for you as a PC player?

Becca HartwellFrom what we have, all I can say is that the post calls it mobile-first and not the successor. I'm not gonna guess how it plays.

Danny ReyesOkay, but here's my skeptic hat. A roadmap post is a company telling you what it wants you to hear. A plan, not a promise.

Becca HartwellTotally fair. Though the same post said something I actually like. The team is also working on The Sims 4.

Danny ReyesHmm, okay. That's the line my wallet cares about.

Becca HartwellRight? For anybody who plays Sims 4 all the time, that sentence is the reassuring one. The team is still working on it.

Danny ReyesStill working on it is vague, though. It doesn't say what it means.

Becca HartwellAnd it mentioned a future single player PC and console experience.

Danny ReyesHold on. Future? As in no date, no name, no nothing?

Becca HartwellNothing in what we've got. I'm not gonna make up a title or a year for you.

Danny ReyesGood, because the leak chatter out there is wild, and none of it is in our sources.

Becca HartwellAll right. So we leave the leaks alone. What we can say is EA put single player on the list in writing.

Danny ReyesIn writing. In a blog post. Sims 3 players know how that goes.

Becca HartwellDanny.

Danny ReyesI'm just saying, my trust meter is hovering over the red.

Becca HartwellMine's more yellow. Phones plus Sims 4 getting updates plus a single player game somewhere down the road. That's more than nothing.

Danny ReyesIt's more than nothing. It's less than a date.

Becca HartwellOkay, that one I'll give you.

Danny ReyesAnd hey, being skeptical isn't the same as being mad. I can want the single player thing and still want a date.

Becca HartwellTotally. Wanting something and doubting the timeline can both be true. That's basically every Sims fan ever.

Danny ReyesSo what do you tell a listener who's kind of bummed? What's the takeaway?

Becca HartwellRead the source, not the rumor. EA said what Rene is and said what else the team is working on. Anything beyond that is somebody's guess, including mine.

Danny ReyesThen my guess is I'll be refreshing news posts until I see an actual date.

Becca HartwellWhich is the correct hobby.

Danny ReyesSee? We can agree on something.

Becca HartwellRare, beautiful moment. Frame it. And that's the week. Okay, so one big takeaway, the Marketplace and Moola are moving into the EA App, and the open question is what happens to the Moola you already own.

Danny ReyesNobody's answered that yet, at least not in anything we read. I'll be refreshing the page all week.

Becca HartwellSame. And what stuck with me is how much of this week was "Here's what's planned" instead of "Here's what's shipped." The store move, the food update, the Swim fix. Lots of good intentions.

Danny ReyesWhich is fine. I like a week where the news is people working on things. I'm just not counting my plates until they're clean.

Becca HartwellPut that on a mug. And thanks for sticking with us, even through Danny's feelings.

Danny ReyesMy feelings were very well organized.

Becca HartwellOkay, so if you liked this one, subscribe and leave us a review. It helps more than you think.

Danny ReyesAnd send us your wild Sims stories at Plumbob Report. The weirder, the better. Autonomy fails, haunted builds, whatever your Sims did to you this week.

Becca HartwellSul sul, Simmers. Thanks for hanging out with us.

Danny ReyesBecca, one more thing before we go.

Becca HartwellUh-oh, what?

Danny ReyesI finally put a ladder in that pool. My Sim looked at it, looked at me, and went right back to staring at the water.

Becca HartwellDanny, some Sims just wanna stand there.

Danny ReyesRespect the stare. See you next week.
