Listen on Apple PodcastsWelcome to Caledon Village, Ontario. Caledon Village is an unincorporated community located within the largely-rural Town of Caledon. It has a population of 1 909 people. Caledon Village is a largely-rural community in the centre of Caledon,situated at the intersection of Highway 10 (Hurontario Street) and Charleston Sideroad. There are quarries for the extraction of salt, gravel, and sand around the village. The large quarries serve as a large portion of the Caledon economy and stretch to the Forks of the Credit and the hamlet of Cataract. The community was first established in the 1820s by Irish and Scottish emigrants of the Stubbs, Rayburn, and Bell families. The village was formerly known as Raeburn's Corners, Charlestown, Charleston, and simply Caledon (although the former township in which the community had been located was always named "Caledon"). The area flourished with industries like sawmills and gristmills, powered by the nearby Credit River. The main form of economic activity ties to agriculture and poultry. For most of its history, Caledon Village was a hamlet (rather than an actual village), with the majority of the growth in the community having occurred in modern times. Most of the population now lives in suburban-style developments. There are ongoing small residential and industrial development plans around the village.
Welcome to Caledon East, Ontario. Caledon East is an unincorporated community located within the Town of Caledon, within the Regional Municipality of Peel. It has a population of 5,575. Caledon East is located in Ward 3. The community was first settled in 1821. In 1877, a train station was built in the village along the Northern Railway of Canada. By the next few years, five trains stopped daily at the station. The station was relocated in 1903. In 1971, the station was demolished, and much of the rail right-of-way became the Caledon Trailway. In 1974, following the dissolution and reduction of 10 municipalities to three in Peel Region, including Mississauga and Brampton, Caledon absorbed many small communities, including Caledon East. Currently, the community has many development plans in the north, south and west. Currrently, Caledon East is experiencing some needed infrastructure repairs, which required the complete closure of Airport Road until at least September 7th. However, all of our local businesses are open and ready to serve you.
