Listen on Apple PodcastsWhat if consciousness doesn't emerge from the brain—but instead gives rise to reality itself? In this fascinating episode of Shine In & Out , Samantha Stoltz sits down with complexity scientist, theoretical physicist, and author James B. Glattfelder to explore consciousness, reality, metaphysical idealism, complexity science, philosophy, meaning, human perception, and the profound questions that sit at the intersection of science and spirituality. Drawing from his background in theoretical physics and his exploration of consciousness through complexity science and metaphysical idealism, James challenges conventional assumptions about the nature of reality. Together, he and Samantha discuss why modern science still struggles to explain consciousness, whether reality is fundamentally mental rather than material, and how expanding our worldview may help us better understand ourselves and the world we inhabit. If you've ever wondered whether consciousness is more than a product of the brain—or whether reality itself is far stranger than we've been taught—this conversation offers a thought-provoking exploration that bridges science, philosophy, and human experience. ✨ In This Episode: • What consciousness really is—and why it's still one of science's greatest mysteries • Could consciousness be more fundamental than matter? • The limitations of materialism and modern scientific thinking • Understanding metaphysical idealism in simple terms • Complexity science and the emergence of reality • Why meaning cannot be reduced to physical processes alone • The relationship between science, philosophy, and spirituality • How altered states of consciousness can expand our understanding of reality • The crisis of consciousness in today's world • Why curiosity may be our greatest tool for discovering truth 🎙️ About James B. What if chronic pain, addiction, and self-sabotage are not random or purely physical conditions… but deeply rooted nervous system responses shaped by early life stress, trauma, and inherited survival patterns? In this powerful episode of Shine In & Out , Samantha Stoltz speaks with Elizabeth Kipp about her extraordinary journey through over 40 years of chronic pain, trauma, and addiction—and how she ultimately found healing through nervous system regulation, awareness, and integrative mind-body practices. Elizabeth shares how growing up in a highly unpredictable and emotionally unsafe environment shaped her nervous system from childhood, long before physical injury ever occurred. After a serious horse-riding accident and years of undiagnosed spinal injury, she entered a long medical journey that eventually led to decades of opioid and benzodiazepine dependence. Her turning point came when she met a physician who took a holistic approach to chronic pain and supported her through detox while introducing breathwork, meditation, qigong, and ancestral clearing. From there, Elizabeth began to understand that healing is not only about removing symptoms—but about resetting the stress response and addressing the deeper patterns stored in the nervous system. This conversation explores the idea that pain is not punishment—it is information. And when we shift from judgment to awareness, we begin to change our relationship with suffering itself. In this episode, we explore: • How early childhood stress shapes the nervous system• The connection between chronic pain, trauma, and emotional safety• Why chronic pain is defined as pain experienced 15+ days per month for 3+ months• The overlap between physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual pain• Long-term opioid and benzodiazepine use in chronic pain treatment• The gap between conventional medicine and holistic healing approaches• Why many patients feel unseen or dismissed in healthcare systems• How breathwork helps regulate and reset the nervous system• Why awareness is the first step toward changing pain patterns• The role of self-sabotage as a protective survival response• How gratitude and persistence supported long-term healing• An introduction to ancestral clearing as a healing practice• Why healing happens through safety, not force Key Themes Chronic pain • trauma healing • nervous system regulation • addiction recovery • breathwork • somatic healing • self-sabotage • ancestral trauma • emotional healing • mind-body connection • holistic health • recovery journey About the Guest Elizabeth Kipp is a Stress Management and Historical Trauma Specialist, Certified Addiction Recovery Coach, Ancestral Clearing Practitioner, and author of The Way Through Chronic Pain: Tools to Reclaim Your Healing Power . Description: This morning’s ramble turned into something deeper than I expected. I started by reflecting on effort:how, when we’re young, we often admire natural talent and effortless ability. But as life unfolds and things stop coming easily, something shifts. We begin respecting people not for what comes naturally to them, but for their willingness to keep showing up anyway. Then the conversation evolved into something much bigger: our relationship with the body itself. After pushing myself hard at Rockville this weekend and waking up in pain, I caught an old subconscious thought rising to the surface: “My body is punishing me.” And that realization stopped me in my tracks. Because what if the body is not the enemy? What if symptoms are communication instead of betrayal? What if exhaustion, pain, tension, and burnout are not signs that your body is failing you, but signs that it’s trying to protect you, signal to you, and work with you? In this episode, I explore: • why effort becomes more admirable with age• the psychology of earning growth• nervous system resistance and burnout• mind-body dualism and self-opposition• why we often treat the body like an obstacle• and how healing may begin when we start relating to our biology as a teammate instead of a machine Your body is performing miracles for you every second of every day. Maybe the question is no longer: “How do I force myself harder?” Maybe the question becomes: “How do I become a better teammate to my own biology?” Science Meets Soul Rambles! There’s a moment most of us don’t talk about. The one where you’re about to speak… post… share something that matters—and something inside you says: don’t. Not because you don’t care. Not because you don’t know enough. But because, somehow, it doesn’t feel safe to be seen. In this conversation, I sit down with Lyn Delmastro-Thompson to explore what’s really happening beneath that fear. We go beyond surface-level confidence advice and into the deeper layers—the nervous system responses, the subconscious patterns, and the early experiences that taught us it was safer to stay small. This isn’t just about visibility in business. It’s about the quiet ways we censor ourselves in everyday life—the thoughts we don’t say, the truths we soften, the parts of us we keep hidden. And what becomes possible when we begin to feel safe enough… to show up anyway. If you’ve ever felt like you’re holding back a part of who you are, this episode is an invitation to understand why—and to gently start shifting it. Because the moment you stop hiding isn’t just brave…it’s where your real impact begins. This is a public episode.
