Jesus shows what true followers of God look like by going deeper than outward behavior. This episode helps kids understand that anger, dishonest words, and revenge are not just “small issues” — they matter to God, and he calls us to a different way of living. Along the way, kids are pointed to God’s heart: he is truthful, patient, kind, and generous even toward those who don’t deserve it. The big takeaway is not “try harder,” but “be like your heavenly Father” and ask him for help when obedience feels hard. There’s also a practical reminder that when we fail, God is ready to forgive and keep shaping us. God does not leave his children alone — he helps, forgives, and keeps teaching us how to live as his people.

Jesus calls his followers salt and light in Matthew 5, which may seem like a very strange thing to say. It points to a wonderful truth, though. This episode helps kids understand that following Jesus isn’t about hiding faith away — it’s about living in a way that shows God’s kindness, truth, and love, so that others will want to praise God. Along the way, the episode explains what salt and light pictures mean, why Jesus says his followers should be “better” than the teachers of the law and Pharisees, and how God’s people are meant to reveal what He is like to the world. Chapters [00:00:00] - Welcome [00:00:38] - Why light helps us see what is really there [00:01:54] - Jesus teaching His disciples about their identity [00:03:33] - “You are the salt of the earth” [00:05:02] - “You are the light of the world” [00:07:03] - Letting good deeds point people to God [00:08:42] - God’s people as a light to the world [00:09:57] - Why Jesus brings a new people of God [00:11:15] - Why the teachers of the law and Pharisees fell short [00:12:55] - Living as useful salt and visible light [00:14:06] - A prayerful challenge to shine for God

What makes you happy? Jesus flips the world’s idea of happiness upside down in this episode, showing that real joy comes from God’s kingdom, not from comfort, popularity, or getting your own way. If you’ve ever wondered why the Bible says the poor in spirit, the sad, the humble, the merciful, and even the persecuted are “happy,” this conversation helps make sense of it. Jesus’ words point to a deeper kind of happiness that lasts, because it comes from being right with God. You’ll also hear practical encouragement for kids learning to follow Jesus in everyday life: how to repent, show mercy, think pure thoughts, make peace, and keep trusting God even when others are unkind.

It is so important to do the right thing at the right time. A long time ago, John the Baptist stepped onto the scene with an urgent message: the time has come! God is about to arrive! And if you've read the Old Testament, you know there is one thing you really want to do before God arrives. It is also the same thing we should be doing today. Join Dave as he explores Matthew chapter 3, and discover what it means to repent, and why that is the most important thing to do is to get ready for God.
