Super Mario 64 is one of the most important games of all time. It set the standard for 3D platformers and 3D games in general, and brought Mario and nintendo into the future while many of his platforming contemporaries failed to make the jump and died in a bottomless pit. Yet, despite being so foundational, there still isn't much exactly like it. Maybe it's nostalgia, or maybe it just predates so many of the rules that have been laid down since then, but it still has surprises even after all this time.
