Show notes

What the episode covers

The Plumbob Report hosts Becca and Danny open with a week of unpredictable Sim autonomy, then work through four stops: the September 22 Sims 4 patch, a High School Years Gallery spotlight, insider talk about Project X and Moola, and a look at rival life sims Moonfrost and Nivalis Nights.

Listeners get a clear picture of what the latest patch addressed, what is confirmed and what is still rumor, and which other life sims are worth watching. The episode keeps verified news and unverified claims in separate columns so it is easy to tell them apart.

  • Patch recap: The September 22 update for Sims 4 landed on four platforms with 95+ fixes across autonomy, relationships, infants, university and stability. The recap covers areas, not every individual fix. It also touches on community feedback from Discord Q&As, Reddit and the EA Forums, plus the CAS, Build/Buy and Maxis fixes teased in August.
  • Gallery spotlight: Sims Community writer JessClaire posted a CAS households Gallery spotlight for High School Years on September 29, following her earlier builds showcase.
  • Project X and Moola: Anonymous, unverified insider claims mention a September 1, 2027 gold deadline, a handheld focus and a Project X Marketplace DLC. A separate August leak covers Moola and Marketplace sustainability, and a cautious report mentions a $55B PIF buyout. These are separate posts from different months, and any leak can be wrong in pieces.
  • Other life sims: Moonfrost from Oxalis Games enters Steam Early Access on October 12 at 6 PM UK time for $14.99, with a demo available. It is a cozy village-restoring builder with deep building systems. Nivalis Nights, a cyberpunk life sim from 505 Games and ION LANDS, has launched on Steam, though Steam Deck HQ says it is not made for Steam Deck.

Quick answers

Straight from the episode

The questions this one settles, without the listen.

What did the September 22 Sims 4 patch fix?
The September 22 patch landed on four platforms with 95+ fixes across autonomy, relationships, infants, university and stability. The episode notes that the recap lists areas rather than every individual fix, and that it included a fix for too much dancing.
What are the rumors about Project X and Moola for The Sims?
An anonymous insider claimed Project X has a Sept 1, 2027 gold deadline, a handheld focus and a Project X Marketplace DLC. A separate August leak covered Moola and Marketplace sustainability. These are unverified, come from different posts in different months, and a leak can be wrong in pieces.
Is the $55B PIF buyout for EA confirmed?
The episode presents it only as a cautious blurb and treats it as part of the unverified rumor discussion, not as confirmed news. The patch is the confirmed good news, while monetization worries remain in the rumor column.
What is the High School Years Gallery spotlight?
Sims Community writer JessClaire posted a CAS households Gallery spotlight for High School Years on Sept 29. It followed her earlier builds showcase. The episode doesn't name any specific households and stays within the excerpt's framing.
When does Moonfrost come out and how much does it cost?
Moonfrost from Oxalis Games enters Steam Early Access on Oct 12 at 6 PM UK time for $14.99, with pound and euro prices also listed. It is for PC Windows, has a demo, and is a cozy village-restoring builder with deep building systems from an indie studio.
Is Nivalis Nights good for Steam Deck?
Nivalis Nights, a cyberpunk life sim from 505 Games and ION LANDS, has launched on Steam. Steam Deck HQ says it has great makings but is not for Steam Deck. The episode frames that as the wrong device, not a bad game.

Becca HartwellOkay, I need to know if anyone else watched their Sim walk straight past a clean toilet to go cry in a hallway this week.

Danny ReyesThe autonomy really said choose violence. Mine stood next to a pool for an hour. No ladder, just vibes.

Becca HartwellAn hour?

Danny ReyesDude, I checked the clock. She had somewhere to be, and she chose the water.

Becca HartwellThat Sim has goals, Danny.

Danny ReyesTerrible ones.

Becca HartwellHonestly, that's the thing about autonomy. You plan for 100 things and they walk to the one spot you never thought about.

Danny ReyesYou know what I mean? You set up a perfect little dinner party and somebody decides the whole evening belongs to the fireplace.

Becca HartwellEvery patch day I tell myself this time will be different.

Danny ReyesAnd every patch day your Sim proves you wrong by noon.

Becca HartwellOkay, so I'm Becca, that's Danny, and this is the Plumbob Report. We've got four stops today, and I'm not even going to pretend they're in a neat order.

Danny ReyesFirst up, the patch. The one that has everyone checking whether their Sims are finally acting like humans.

Becca HartwellFresh community builds because the creators never sleep. Also, Danny has a rumor.

Danny ReyesA very unconfirmed rumor. Plus we'll peek at the other life Sims crowding the lot.

Becca HartwellMm, a crowded lot. Sims hate that. Anyway, let's start with what the patch actually touched. Okay, I have the patch notes open and I need to know one thing. Which platforms got this? All of them. The September 22nd update landed on PC, Mac, Xbox and PlayStation. Simscommunity.info has the patch notes recap.

Danny ReyesWait, all four on the same day? That never happens without somebody's console melting down.

Becca HartwellDon't jinx it. And the headline number is Ninety-five-plus bug fixes.

Danny ReyesNinety-five. That's a whole neighborhood of bugs.

Becca HartwellRight? And it's not just random cleanup. The recap lists improvements to autonomy, relationships and family dynamics, Infants, University and stability. Fair warning, it lists areas, not every individual fix, so I can't promise your exact bug is in there.

Danny ReyesWhich is the honest version. Infants and University in the same breath though. So the baby and the dorm kid both got attention.

Becca HartwellTotally. Sims from diapers to diplomas.

Danny ReyesAnd stability is the one I never know how to feel about. Everybody wants it and nobody notices when it works.

Becca HartwellThat's the best kind of fix, honestly. If it's working, you just never see the crash screen. Weird thing to celebrate, but I'll take it.

Danny ReyesOkay, but autonomy is the one I care about. Give me something specific.

Becca HartwellThere's a fix for Sims dancing too often.

Danny ReyesNo way.

Becca HartwellYes way.

Danny ReyesHold on. That's the most perfect autonomy fail ever written down in a patch note. Your Sim is in the middle of a crisis, bladder screaming, and they're like, "You know what this moment needs? Jazz hands."

Becca HartwellI mean, come on, everybody has lost a whole party to one Sim doing the same dance by the fridge.

Danny ReyesMotherlode energy right there, just for the wrong reasons.

Becca HartwellThe dancing is fixed is what I'm saying. Your Sims will have to find a new way to embarrass you.

Danny ReyesThey'll find one. They always do.

Becca HartwellProbably. Okay, but here's what I liked. The team says the update was shaped by feedback. They name Discord dev Q&As, Reddit and the top voted issues on the EA Forums.

Danny ReyesHmm, okay. I'm the skeptic, so let me ask. Is that real listening or is that a line you put in the notes?

Becca HartwellFair. I can't tell you how each fix got picked. The recap only says where the feedback came from.

Danny ReyesBut those are the places where people complain the loudest, to be fair. Reddit threads, forum votes. If the loud stuff got fixed, that's something.

Becca HartwellAnd the top voted part matters to me. That's the stuff a ton of players hit, not one person with a weird save file.

Danny ReyesOkay, I'll give them that. Small win for the forum warriors.

Becca HartwellAnd the Discord Q&As are interesting to me because that's the team talking to players in the open.

Danny ReyesWhich is a different vibe from a patch note just appearing out of nowhere. At least you get to ask why your Sim does the thing.

Becca HartwellBefore I forget, there's a second write-up too. Another overview of the September patch says it also brought new Create-a-Sim and Build and Buy items.

Danny ReyesOh, the stuff that got teased in August?

Becca HartwellThat's the one. The overview says those teased items shipped in this patch along with a batch of bug fixes from the Maxis team.

Danny ReyesSo it's not just repairs. You get new couches with your repairs.

Becca HartwellNew couches and hopefully Sims who actually sit on them instead of dancing next to them.

Danny ReyesStop. I'm gonna put that on a shirt.

Becca HartwellIt also mentions a recent Discord Q&A with the Quality Assurance and Verification teams. So the folks testing all this were out there talking.

Danny ReyesWhich I love, honestly. Somebody's job is to try to break the game on purpose. Their Sims probably never dance.

Becca HartwellSo the picture is a patch with a lot of fixes, some new items and a team that at least says where it listened.

Danny ReyesI'll take that. Now I just need my own Sims to agree in the actual game.

Becca HartwellAnyway, patch fixes are great, but the proof is in what players are building with the game right now.

Danny ReyesYes, because the builders never wait for a patch, and I've got some fresh ones to show you.

Becca HartwellOkay, so builds first. A Sims community writer named JessClaire put up a gallery spotlight of CAS households for High School Years.

Danny ReyesHouseholds, not houses.

Becca HartwellRight? It follows her earlier High School Years builds showcase. Came out September 29th.

Danny ReyesWait, so she did the buildings first and then went, "Fine, fair is fair. Let's meet the people who live in them"?

Becca HartwellThat's basically how she frames it. The post says it was only fair to turn attention to the Sims who are actually going to... And then the excerpt cuts off.

Danny ReyesGoing to what? Go to school? Survive school? Start a hallway fight?

Becca HartwellI mean, come on. I'm not going to invent the ending. I only know the framing.

Danny ReyesFair, but I love the order. Nobody ever builds the house and then asks who's coming home.

Becca HartwellTotally. Usually I make a gorgeous kitchen and then a Sim sets it on fire. Same energy.

Danny ReyesThe lot gets a showcase that teenagers get a spotlight. Very democratic.

Becca HartwellAnd I'm not claiming anything about which households made the cut. I haven't got that.

Danny ReyesGood, because I was about to accuse one of them of having no homework desk.

Becca HartwellHonestly though, I like when a writer does the follow-up. Builds are the flashy part, but the people are what make a lot feel lived in.

Danny ReyesRight. A house with nobody in it is just a really expensive screenshot.

Becca HartwellAnd it's a nice nod to the gallery since the post is a spotlight on households rather than just floor plans.

Danny ReyesCareful though, we don't know what's in it beyond the framing. I'm keeping my claims as small as the excerpt.

Becca HartwellSpeaking of which, somebody's whispering about what comes next for the franchise.

Danny ReyesOh, finally, the rumor mill. And we're going to be very clear about what's rumor and what's confirmed.

Becca HartwellGo on, whisper. Okay, door is closed. Nobodys listening. I have insider talk. You have a whisper voice for this?

Danny ReyesI have a whole whisper voice. So Sims Community posted a piece about an anonymous insider. The claim is that Project X has a deadline of September 1st, 2027 to go gold, and everything in this segment is unverified talk, not confirmed fact.

Becca HartwellWait, really? Thats not even a year out.

Danny ReyesRight? Anonymous, relayed, no name to check, so we hold it loosely.

Becca HartwellGot it. Keep going.

Danny ReyesSame insider says handheld focus, Steam Deck, ROG Ally, that kind of thing.

Becca HartwellOkay. I mean, come on. Sims on a couch, on an actual couch? That part sounds kinda lovely.

Danny ReyesSim on a couch, player on a couch.

Becca HartwellStop. I love it.

Danny ReyesThough, flag it, the insider says handheld focus, but there's no detail on how it plays. It's a headline, not a spec sheet.

Becca HartwellRight. So the couch is a nice daydream, but nobody's shown us anything.

Danny ReyesHere's the part that made the comment sections twitchy. The insider also says DLC moves to a Project Moola marketplace.

Becca HartwellAnd there it is.

Danny ReyesAnd I get why. After a buyout, every marketplace line sounds like a bill coming due. But that's one anonymous claim, and the label on it is unverified.

Becca HartwellYeah, it's easy to hear that and panic. It's harder to sit with the fact that all we have is somebody said it.

Danny ReyesEven Sims Community framed the post as reflecting worry about monetization after the buyout. So that's the mood going in.

Becca HartwellHmm. Okay. Is that the only leak?

Danny ReyesNo. A separate one reported by Sims Community back in August claims EA is cutting Moola purchase options in some markets.

Becca HartwellUm, cutting how you can buy Moola? That's a funny way to make money.

Danny ReyesIt gets weirder. The same leak claims the marketplace is underperforming.

Becca HartwellWait, so the store is doing badly and the fix is fewer ways to pay?

Danny ReyesI can't make it make sense.

Becca HartwellSims autonomy logic, very on brand.

Danny ReyesAnd to be fair, a leak can be wrong in pieces. Maybe one part is real and the rest isn't. We can't sort that from here.

Becca HartwellWhich is the whole problem with insider talk. You get the spooky bit without the receipts.

Danny ReyesAnd then the big one, internal talk about whether The Sims is financially sustainable under EA.

Becca HartwellOkay, that one lands different.

Danny ReyesYeah. Somebody said somebody said.

Becca HartwellRight. And you mentioned the buyout. What do we actually know there?

Danny ReyesCareful territory. Sims Community's news hub blurbs say the EA buyout closed for $55 billion in August 2026, led by Saudi Arabia's PIF.

Becca HartwellThat's a lot of zeros.

Danny ReyesIt's a pile. But that's a site blurb, and the page itself says to check the date against a primary source. So I'm holding it loosely.

Becca HartwellFair. Loosely is the right grip.

Danny ReyesAnd notice the dates. The Project X post is from September. The Moola leak is from August. Those aren't one big story. They're two separate pieces of talk.

Becca HartwellSo nobody should stitch them into a master plan. That's how rumors turn into fan fiction.

Danny ReyesSo we've got a patch that fixed a bunch of stuff people were annoyed about.

Becca HartwellWhich feels like good news, genuinely.

Danny ReyesIt is. And then a leak drops, and everybody's back to squinting at the store.

Becca HartwellBecause being fixed and being safe are different things to a player who's been burned.

Danny ReyesAnd that's the honest turn here. The patch is in the notes. You can go play it. The rumors are talk, and the worry about monetization is real, even if the claims aren't proven.

Becca HartwellTwo different columns. What's said on one side, what's confirmed on the other, and I'm not letting either one bleed into the other.

Danny ReyesExactly. Anyway, while we wait on rumors to turn into facts or fizzle, other life Sims are rolling up with their own sandboxes.

Becca HartwellOh, the neighbors are moving in. Let's go look. Okay, so the sandbox is getting crowded. First up, Moonfrost. PlayDayOne reported that developer Oxalis Games is launching it in Steam Early Access on October 12th.

Danny ReyesWait, that's like two weeks away.

Becca HartwellBasically. 6:00 PM UK time, and the price is $14.99 in US dollars.

Danny Reyes$14.99? That's less than my last Sims pack impulse buy regret.

Becca HartwellRight? And there's a demo on Steam too, so you can poke at it before you spend anything.

Danny ReyesOkay, I love a demo. Demos are the try before you buy of it all. What's the pitch though? Because life sim covers everything from farming to, you know, my Sim standing in a puddle for six hours.

Becca HartwellAnalog Stick Gaming describes it as a cozy life sim that blends warmth with deep building systems.

Danny ReyesDeep building systems. Okay, now you have my attention. I can be a gremlin with a build mode.

Becca HartwellAnd the twist is you restore a struggling village.

Danny ReyesHold on, a struggling village? So I'm not making a family, I'm basically the neighbor who shows up and fixes the whole town.

Becca HartwellPretty much. Rebuilding a community, that's the hook.

Danny ReyesHonestly, that sounds like every Sim's lot I've abandoned, but with a plan.

Becca HartwellTotally. Um, and it's early access, so you know, expect it to be unfinished.

Danny ReyesSure. Early access means the pool ladder might still be in the backlog.

Becca HartwellAnd the demo matters more than people think. You don't have to trust the trailer or me or a write-up. You can just go play a bit.

Danny ReyesRight. For a genre built on vibes, hands-on beats a description every time. I'll trust my own hands before anyone's adjectives.

Becca HartwellAlso, the pricing was listed in a few currencies. Twelve ninety-nine in pounds, fourteen ninety-nine in euros, same number as the dollar figure.

Danny ReyesAnd it's on PC, Windows specifically. So for a listener in the UK or Europe, you're not doing weird math. That's considerate.

Becca HartwellYeah. Though I can only tell you what the announcement said. Price, date, demo.

Danny ReyesGood rule. Announcement price, announcement date. Anything else is me making things up, and I do enough of that in Build Mode.

Becca HartwellAlso worth saying, it's coming from an indie studio, so a launch with a demo is a pretty friendly way to meet people.

Danny ReyesSmall team, open door, try it before you pay. That's the opposite of a mystery box pack.

Becca HartwellHa. Okay, second one is a totally different vibe. Nivalis Nights.

Danny ReyesOoh, Cyberpunk.

Becca HartwellCyberpunk life-sim. Inven Global reported that 505 Games and the indie developer ION LANDS have officially launched it on PC through Steam.

Danny ReyesLike launched as in it's out now, not a date on a calendar.

Becca HartwellIt's out. So neon, rain, and daily life, I assume?

Danny ReyesWait, I'm only going off the headline, but that's a whole different mood from a cozy village, which I kind of love. Same genre label, totally different evenings.

Becca HartwellRight? But here's a catch for the handheld crowd.

Danny ReyesOh no, because we just talked about handhelds.

Becca HartwellI mean, the potential's there. It's just not gonna be comfortable on that device according to them.

Danny ReyesOkay, but that's one outlet's take. I'd wanna hear what people actually say when they try it.

Becca HartwellFair. I'm not gonna claim more than they said. Fantastic makings, wrong device.

Danny ReyesHere's the thing, wrong device isn't bad game. Those are two different complaints.

Becca HartwellRight, and the Steam Deck piece starts from the good side. Fantastic makings is the compliment. The caveat is about where you play it.

Danny ReyesWhich is a useful thing to know before you buy it for the couch.

Becca HartwellYeah, and I only know the headline and the summary line. I haven't got details on the why.

Danny ReyesSo if you're on a desktop, it's probably fine to be curious.

Becca HartwellThat's the read. Go in knowing what one site said and check back as people play.

Danny ReyesAlso, it's kind of interesting how different the two are. One has a date on the calendar, the other's already on the store.

Becca HartwellRight. Moonfrost, you can try the demo and decide. Nivalis Nights, it's already out, so the question is whether it's your kind of evening.

Danny ReyesAnd as Sims people, it's a reminder the label covers a lot of ground. Cozy village builder on one side, cyberpunk on the other.

Becca HartwellWhich means what should I play next is a real question now, not just a pack buying question.

Danny ReyesAnd I'd say that's a nice check on us too. We love our Sims, but it doesn't hurt to see what else is out there.

Becca HartwellNo, it's healthy. You can love your home game and still peek over the fence.

Danny ReyesAnd honestly, two new life-sim in one week, one cozy, one neon, that's a good problem for Simmers to have.

Becca HartwellIt really is. Okay, I think that's our runway.

Danny ReyesTime to land the plane. Seatbelts on, Sims off autopilot.

Becca HartwellPlease, let's sign off. Okay, so the short version for anyone who zoned out during the Sims-adjacent tangents, the patch is real. The rumors are just rumors.

Danny ReyesMy eyebrow has been raised since the marketplace thing. It's stuck. I think it's a trait now.

Becca HartwellGive it a few days, it'll wander off to the pool and stand there.

Danny ReyesWait, that's actually the autonomy fix I want. A Sim who hears a rumor goes, "Nope, unconfirmed," and just walks back inside.

Becca HartwellMeanwhile, mine would hear the rumor, cancel dinner, and start a fight with the mailbox.

Danny ReyesThe mailbox had it coming.

Becca HartwellAnd that's really the line for today. The patch notes are out, and you can go play it. The Insider Talk is just talk, and we'll keep you telling you which is which.

Danny ReyesIf something ever turns from rumor into fact, you'll hear it from us. Until then, it stays in the whisper voice.

Becca HartwellAlways does. Okay, before we go, if you liked this, subscribe, so the next episode just shows up.

Danny ReyesAnd leave us a review. It helps other Simmers find the show, and I read them at 2:00 in the morning, so be nice.

Becca HartwellAlso, send us your wildest Sim stories, the haunted toddlers, the fires, the Sim who lived in a bathroom. Find us on social at PlumbobReport.

Danny ReyesI want the messy ones. Bring the chaos.

Becca HartwellSeriously, the smaller and weirder, the better. Tell us what your Sim did when you weren't looking, because that's half of why we do this show.

Danny ReyesAnd if the story ends in a pool with no ladder, even better. We are professionals.

Becca HartwellThanks for hanging out with us, everybody. Go check on your Sims. One of them is definitely standing in a corner.

Danny ReyesSul sul.
