By 285 votes to just 26, residents delivered a devastating rejection of plans to dump a massive asylum centre on their doorstep. Yet Burnham's answer is that communities across Britain must "share" the problem. No, Andy. We don't want the problem shared. We want it stopped! Moving undocumented men from hotels into towns, villages and military camps across Britain does not solve the crisis. It merely spreads the risk, spreads the fear and spreads the anger. It is not racist to demand secure borders. It is not unreasonable to demand identification. And it is not "far right" to say that entering Britain illegally without documents or a verified identity must have serious consequences. Simply uttering the words "I am seeking asylum" cannot be treated as a magic password granting entry into Britain, years of taxpayer-funded accommodation and endless appeals. The solution is simple: DETER. DETAIN. DECIDE. DEPORT. Anyone arriving illegally without a verified identity should be placed in a secure, locked and properly controlled centre while we establish who they are and decide their claim. If the claim is accepted, they enter through the proper legal process. If it fails, they are deported—immediately. No hotel. No disappearing act. No endless legal merry-go-round. Britain's first duty is not to illegal arrivals, activist lawyers or Burnham's hand-wringing liberal friends. The first duty of any government is the safety and security of the British people. Piddington's vote may be symbolic, but the fury behind it is real. People are sick of being ignored, insulted and ordered to accept decisions imposed upon their communities without meaningful consent. Burnham needs to wake up. If politicians continue dismissing legitimate fears and forcing this failed policy upon unwilling communities, they will drive tensions through the roof. Stop spreading the problem. Stop the boats. Secure the camps. Decide the claims quickly—and chuck out everyone who has no right to remain. Two enormous £36 million donations mean Reform finally has the financial firepower to take on Labour, the Tories and the entire cosy political establishment. And they absolutely HATE it! Reform says the donations were made legally under the rules. But Rayner is now suggesting that proposed legislation could operate retrospectively and potentially force some of that money to be returned. RETROSPECTIVELY! In about it: Reform accepts donations under the rules that exist today—then the Government introduces new rules and reaches backwards to claw the money back. But retrospective punishment—changing the financial consequences after the event—is a dangerous road for any democracy to travel down. SO STOP CALLING ORDINARY BRITS THUGS! After the extraordinary scenes in Portsmouth last night, Andy Burnham and his Government have done what this political class ALWAYS does. They blame YOU. They lecture YOU. They demonise YOU. Instead of asking why ordinary British people are so bloody angry, they reach for the insults — "thugs", "intimidating", the usual establishment rubbish designed to shut down debate. Well, I've got a message for Burnham tonight: WE ARE NOT THUGS. WE ARE NOT THE PROBLEM. START LISTENING TO THE PEOPLE WHO PAY YOUR WAGES! And here's the fact they can't brush aside: THERE WERE NO ARRESTS LAST NIGHT. If the police have evidence that an individual committed an offence, investigate them and deal with them. Simple. But don't smear an entire protest because you don't like its message. The message from Portsmouth was one we've heard across Britain: STOP THE BOATS! SECURE OUR BORDERS! PUT BRITISH PEOPLE FIRST! How many prime ministers, home secretaries and governments have promised to sort this mess out? And what have we got? More excuses. More spin. More lectures. And more politicians apparently incapable of understanding the anger outside the Westminster bubble. Burnham was supposed to be different. Different? He sounds more like Starmer every bloody day! The British working class has had enough of being talked down to by politicians who expect their votes and taxes but don't appear interested in listening to what they're saying. Tonight I'm asking: WHO ARE THE REAL THUGS? The people demanding secure borders? Or a political establishment that repeatedly promises action and then fails to deliver? Britain is angry. Portsmouth showed it again last night. Burnham can either start LISTENING to that anger — or carry on demonising the people expressing it. Because continually ignoring millions of people and treating legitimate anger with contempt is a dangerous road for this country. If we want to ban balaclavas and masks at demonstrations, why shouldn't we have a proper debate about ALL face coverings in public — including the niqab and burqa? Should the law distinguish between somebody covering their face for political protest and somebody doing so for religious reasons? Or should Britain simply say: ONE RULE FOR EVERYONE — faces should be visible in public? And there's another question: did the Dover protesters actually HELP the Stop the Boats campaign — or damage it? And what does our new political messiah appear to be offering us? CHEAPER BUS FARES! Give me strength! He talks about cutting VAT on electricity. So much for putting the country before your political career. John Healey was hailed as a politician with principles when he dramatically resigned as Defence Secretary over defence spending. He effectively accused Keir Starmer's government and the Treasury of failing to give our Armed Forces the money they needed. He told Parliament Britain needed to spend 3% of GDP on defence by 2030. His resignation helped pile the pressure onto an already crumbling Starmer government and Healey emerged looking like that rarest of creatures — a politician prepared to sacrifice his job for his principles. Fast-forward a few weeks and Healey is back around the Cabinet table — this time as Chancellor of the Exchequer. And what happens to that great principle now HE controls the purse strings? Suddenly the 3% target can wait. You couldn't make it up! Was his resignation really about Britain's national security — or was it another calculated move up the greasy political pole? If John Healey genuinely believed Britain was being put at risk by inadequate defence spending, how can he now justify delaying the very commitment he demanded from Starmer? And that raises a much bigger question: CAN WE TRUST ANY OF THEM? Do our MPs actually have principles anymore? Or do principles last only until they get in the way of the next Cabinet job, leadership contest or political promotion? Are politicians entering Parliament to change the country — or simply to climb the greasy pole? ARE ALL MPs HYPOCRITES & LIARS? Coventry, Birmingham, Manchester — or YOUR town tomorrow? More than 200 extra police officers are being drafted into the Cleveland area after a terrifying week of violence and tragedy. Nine people have died in separate incidents, while police investigate suspected organised crime, a fatal house fire, a stabbing and other serious incidents. But here's the question we need to ask: HOW DID WE GET HERE? For years we've watched communities struggle with drugs, organised crime, anti-social behaviour and a growing minority who appear to have absolutely no respect for the police, the law or the communities they live in. We've tolerated too much for too long. Weak policing. A justice system that too often seems incapable of providing a serious deterrent. Drug dealing and drug abuse destroying communities. Parents failing to take responsibility for their kids. Anti-social behaviour dismissed as something we simply have to put up with. Even Cleveland Police currently lists organised crime, drug dealing, criminal exploitation, anti-social behaviour and community intimidation among neighbourhood priorities in parts of Middlesbrough. ENOUGH. I want ZERO TOLERANCE. More police on the streets. Tough action against organised crime and drug dealers. Proper punishment for violent offenders. Parents taking responsibility. And communities where decent, law-abiding people — not criminals — are in charge. Andy Burnham, this is bigger than another TikTok video or another PR announcement. GET TOUGH. GET A GRIP. I came out seeing Britain more clearly than ever — and what I see frightens me. Yesterday I had an eye procedure. But it wasn't the doctors who really opened my eyes. It was one of the nurses. We started talking about the horrific A66 crash that killed PCs Matthew Blades and Tom Clough. Two police officers went to work to protect the public and never came home. Yet Labour MP and Home Office minister Anna Turley offered condolences to all SEVEN families — including the families of the five men in the car that had been pursued by police before travelling the WRONG WAY down the A66 and smashing into the officers' vehicle. What the hell has happened to this country? Then my nurse told me something that made my blood run cold. She is frightened that a man who attacked her is being released under the early-release scheme. Think about that. She goes to work. She looks after patients. She raises her children. She pays her taxes. She obeys the law. And SHE is frightened because the system is releasing the man who attacked her. Then we talked about the Channel, illegal immigration and public concern about serious sexual offences committed by some migrants. And here's my question for the Government: Why won't you give us the fullest possible figures on the ethnicity and immigration status of sexual offenders? Publish the data. ALL OF IT. Let the British people see the facts and make up their own minds. What are you frightened the figures might show? Then my nurse summed up the mood of this country in one devastating sentence: "WHY DO I BOTHER?" Why bother getting up and going to work? Why bother getting your kids to school? Why bother paying your taxes? Why bother obeying the law? Why bother doing the right thing when you increasingly feel that law-abiding people come LAST? That is what politicians need to understand. Millions of ordinary people aren't asking for special treatment. THEY WANT FAIR TREATMENT. They want criminals punished. They want victims protected. They want secure borders. They want the truth from their Government. And they want to stop being smeared as gammons, bigots or racists simply because they dare to ask difficult questions. Britain is angry. The Home Office has produced a nine-page guide for asylum seekers explaining that rape is illegal, women have equal rights, sexual consent matters, domestic abuse is illegal and you cannot have sex with children under 16. Seriously?! If the Government believes some people arriving in Britain need to be TOLD these things, isn't that itself a massive warning sign? And what exactly is a pamphlet supposed to achieve? This feels like the ultimate case of shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted. Instead of another leaflet, another poster and another Government initiative, why aren't we having the much bigger debate about who is entering Britain, how they are vetted, where they are housed and what happens when they commit serious crimes? There have been horrific cases involving individual asylum seekers convicted of sexual offences. Those crimes have real victims — women and children whose suffering isn't remotely funny. That's why this becomes a dark, dark comedy rather than something we can simply laugh about. For years, people raising legitimate questions about young undocumented men being accommodated in hotels, HMOs and other facilities have sometimes felt dismissed as racists or bigots. But asking questions about safeguarding, security and vetting is not the same thing as claiming every migrant is dangerous. Meanwhile, what is Andy Burnham talking about? He's embraced TikTok politics, he's been talking about bread rolls, and today he's announcing another initiative — this time tackling fly-tipping. Of course fly-tipping matters. But Britain also faces enormous questions about borders, crime, prisons, housing and the cost of living. Burnham is supposed to be running a COUNTRY — but increasingly he seems to be behaving like he's still a Mayor with a magic money tree. He's gone from MAYOR to MaRE — a NIGHTMARE! And while Burnham tries to please everybody, is he completely missing the priorities of millions of ordinary British people? Today Portugal has taken decisive action and enacted a ban on concealing faces in public, including full-face veils. Denmark has had a face-covering ban for years. Whatever you think of those policies, they raise a bigger question: could you imagine Burnham taking such a tough and potentially unpopular decision? Or is he fundamentally a PEOPLE PLEASER rather than a LEADER? Meanwhile Britain has a prison overcrowding crisis and a deeply controversial early-release policy. Our borders still aren't secure. To which I say: Don't they talk about illegal immigration? The Muslim rape gangs? The early release of rapists, murderers and cop killers? Don't they mention the murder of PC Andrew Harper? Really, Andy? You tell us you're travelling around the country meeting "real people" and listening to what they have to say. And yet apparently none of this comes up? You're not spinning us a yarn, are you, Andy? Because that brings me to the other thing I'm already sick to the back teeth of — ANDY BURNHAM'S PR SPIN. I'm sick of the TikToks. I'm sick of the carefully cultivated "man of the people" shtick. The T-shirt. The no tie. The rolled-up sleeves. Look at me, I'm Andy, I'm just like you. Give me a break! Strip away the presentation and tell me: what is actually different between Andy Burnham and Keir Starmer? Apart from the fact that Andy still has black hair! Britain deserves better than this. It really does. We don't need another politician selling us an image. We don't need another social-media performance. We don't need another bloke telling us how much he's listening. WE NEED SOMEONE TO ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING. Stop telling us you're listening and start telling us what you're going to DO. What are you going to do about illegal immigration? What are you going to do about the prison crisis and dangerous criminals being released early? What are you going to do to ensure the victims of grooming and rape gangs finally get justice? And what are you actually going to do to make ordinary people feel safe in their own country? Because then, just when you think British politics can't get any more ridiculous, what happens? We get the nuclear-alert system on our mobile phones — and we're being told how to cook our bloody bangers! Seriously?! Is this what government has been reduced to? We've got a country facing enormous problems and apparently somebody in government thinks what Britain really needs is instructions on how to barbecue a sausage. Forget the bangers.
