Compassion fatigue and burnout in healthcare is still a big problem, and the pandemic only exposed more of the faults in our systems. In this project, we talk to different healthcare workers about their experiences in doing the difficult work as our first-responders, and what trauma-informed care means to them. From patient care, to interpersonal relationships, to self-care, the need to bring one another to a place of healing is an ongoing struggle. Listen to these stories to get inspiration, identify with another healthcare worker, or just rumble and roar together.

How can I advocate for a patient when the ER may not be the only answer? This episode focuses on workplace advocacy and trauma‑informed empowerment.
My name is Carrie Wassel and I'm an ER nurse, mom, and outdoor explorer who loves to talk about hard things. In this introductory episode, I am joined by hospital chaplain Linda Setter where we talk about the project I'm working on for my Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree, our rural location in the four-corners region with its unique needs, the direction this podcast will go and the guests we look forward to hearing from. If you work in EMS or healthcare, we invite you to listen, join us, or even connect with someone else who could use a friend to talk to about the hard things. This work is never done.
