Noel Micallef didn’t become a marathon runner overnight. After periods of running, injury and years of stopping and starting, Noel reached a point in his 40's where fitness became something more permanent. Running shifted from something he did for an event to something that became part of who he is. Thirteen marathons later, Noel has taken an hour off his first marathon time, from 4:44 to a recent personal best of 3:45. In this episode, we talk about that journey: the lessons from a brutal first marathon, finding consistency, the impact of coaching, overcoming limiting beliefs and why, at 51, Noel feels he’s still getting better. It’s more than a conversation about running - it's about what can happen when you keep showing up and remain curious about what you’re capable of beyond 40.
In this introductory episode, host Troy Tindill shares the idea behind Fit Beyond 40 and talks about how his own relationship with fitness has evolved in his 40's. Beginning with his curiosity about the everyday people who inspire him, Troy sets the scene for Series 1 of the podcast, for a collection of honest conversations about movement, motivation, ageing and what it means to stay fit with intention and enjoyment. This is the starting point for Fit Beyond 40 —real people, different journeys and stories that will hopefully inspire you to keep moving and discover what you’re capable of in your own fitness journey.
