Today on the podcast, we’re sitting down with Ian Wood. Ian spent his career as a spectacle engineer, now using those fine skills and specialised tools in his modelling. We learn about the early days of the Victorian N Scale Collective and why he focuses on the Victorian Railways steam-to-diesel transition era. Ian pioneered the sedum tree technique that features on nearly every members layout in the collective. We discuss his process from modifying the natural plants with wire, to adding PVA-soaked raffia for that final layer of detail. I hope you enjoy the second episode of the Australian N Scale Podcast. Head over to www.nscale.au for detailed show notes, extra information and photos.
Today on the podcast, we’re sitting down with Rob Popovski. Rob works for Sydney trains on the breakdown gang during the day and models well into the night. We learn about why exhibitions are so important and why Gunning in regional NSW had to be made in 1:160. Rob has scratch-built hundreds of models, and we discuss his process from trackside measuring, to sanding his 3D prints with tiny strips of sand paper, ready for casting. I hope you enjoy the first episode of the Australian N Scale Podcast. Head over to www.nscale.au for detailed show notes, extra information and photos.
Hi, I’m Mark a photojournalist with a passion for Australian N Scale. Welcome to the Australian N Scale Podcast, where I chat with the modellers, manufacturers and people behind one of Australia’s fastest-growing model railway scales. Across this 10-part series, we’ll talk layouts, modelling techniques, manufacturing, DCC, 3D printing and plenty more. Think of it as a conversation with someone from the N scale community — sharing ideas, experiences and the things that make this hobby so much fun. Whether you’ve been modelling for decades, you’re just getting started, or you’re simply curious about Australian railways in 1:160, there’s something here for you. So grab your headphones and listen at your layout, in the car or on the train. This is the Australian N Scale Podcast.
