We're back from Bali and straight back into the grind... turns out inner peace has a shelf life of about four days. This week we air out: the internet refusing to believe a dry shampoo actually works, a dummy addiction that needs to end, and whether kids these days are getting more entitled or if we just sound like our parents now. We get into gratitude, discipline, and Ben's under 6s rugby coaching career (verdict: slightly feared, weirdly effective), plus the great ‘simple 90s birthday party vs full production’ debate - lolly bags, ice cream trucks, and whether asking for $5 instead of plastic crap makes you a good parent or a cheapskate. This week we are breaking down our parenting styles... why one of us can't let the other parent without hovering, whether Mitre 10 counts as quality time, and the great "gentle parenting vs your kids need structure" comment section debate. We do some research into our actual parenting styles (reactive vs high intensity, apparently), argue about lunchbox surveillance, and somehow end up questioning whether "symbiotic" is a real word. We made it to Bali, we're both red as lobsters, and somehow neither of us has been arrested for scaling a villa fence at 12:30am. We talk sciatica (allegedly), surf bullying (allegedly), and the Gojek driver who ended up being the actual highlight of the trip. We launched, we survived, we packed a million boxes, and somehow we're still married. This week we're counting down to our first holiday without the kids since 2019. Six days, no lunchboxes, no negotiating with a two year old, no FaceTime updates unless someone's on fire. It's chaotic, it's a bit unhinged, and yeah, there's champagne involved. But that's kind of the point, we're not pretending to have it together, we're just letting you watch us try. There have been a lot of narratives about our relationship over the years, but this time, we're telling our own. For episode 1 we thought it would be a good idea for you to get to know us. The real us. If we weren't married with three kids, would we even be friends? Kids change everything, and we've had to learn to love every new version of ourselves (and each other) along the way. As a couple, we couldn’t be more different, we're chalk and cheese... but that's kinda what makes us work. We talk about who we are outside of being mum and dad, what keeps us connected and the things we probably wouldn’t tolerate from anyone else.
