Lindsey Campbell interview Phil Moniz (co-director/co-writer/executive producer) about his film RACEWALKERS. It's screening across Canada in theatres during July. RACEWALKERS... Christian Zyp interview Zola Grimmer, the star of the film CAMP from director Avalon Fast. See it at the Metro Cinema Sunday July 12, 2026 at 9:30 PM and Wednesday July 15, 2026 at 6:45 PM. The Wednesday screening will feature a virtual Q&A with Avalon Fast. Girls. Ghosts. Grief. Avalon Fast’s CAMP is an out-of-body experience that brings you about as close as you can get to witchcraft and otherworldly spirits. After accidentally causing two fatal accidents, Emily spends the summer as a counsellor at a Christian grief camp in the woods in order to process her guilt. The film takes a sharp turn towards the surreal as she grows unexpectedly close with the other counsellors, participating in eccentric rituals which begin to unearth the roots of her trauma and push her towards catharsis, but not without consequence. Camp captures the raw emotions of guilt to create an ethereal and uncanny experience of growing up despite feeling frozen in time. Grief can’t nearly be solved in one summer, but it can begin to heal. Lucas Anders interviews Jacqueline Doorey (director) about her documentary THE HOCKEY PLAYER. You can see the Canadian Premiere at the Metro Cinema on Friday June 26th at 8:30PM. This red-carpet event will feature a VIP reception, Guests (Luke Prokop, Jacqueline Doorey and more) and more as they celebrate an important and deeply personal hockey story in the city that helped shape it. Shot over the last five years, The Hockey Player follows Canadian-born defenseman Luke Prokop as he decides to become the first — and still only — professional athlete playing under contract to an NHL team to come out as gay. Growing up in Edmonton steeped in Canada’s tough, often homophobic hockey culture, and playing without gay role models throughout professional sports, Luke’s path to coming out of the closet has been neither easy nor obvious. The film charts Prokop’s personal journey against the backdrop of a professional hockey industry that has had, at best, an ambivalent relationship to diversity. As the film sensitively reveals, being publicly out certainly came as an earthquake to his family, especially his father Al, who as Luke’s mentor and sometime coach represents the most complex and moving relationship in the film. The film being featured in July will be DEAR FRANKIE at the Landmark CIty Centre Cinemas on Thursday June 25th at 7PM. DEAR FRANKIE ... Nine-year-old Frankie and his single mum Lizzie have been on the move ever since Frankie can remember, most recently arriving in a seaside Scottish town. Wanting to protect her deaf son from the truth that they've run away from his father, Lizzie has invented a story that he is away at sea on the HMS Accra. Every few weeks, Lizzie writes Frankie a make-believe letter from his father, telling of his adventures in exotic lands. As Frankie tracks the ship's progress around the globe, he discovers that it is due to dock in his hometown. With the real HMS Accra arriving in only a fortnight, Lizzie must choose between telling Frankie the truth or finding the perfect stranger to play Frankie's father for just one day... It's a cop corruption thriller that’s also a vampire movie focusing on four characters. Ethan Hawkins (Justin Long), the son of a legendary LAPD cop (Dermot Mulroney), who wants to join The Night Patrol, an unofficial, secretive, elite unit within the department that’s essentially a vampire street gang with badges and uniforms. Ethan’s partner, Xavier Carr (Jermaine Fowler), is a Black patrolman who used to be a member of the Crips gang and hopes to rise through the ranks of the police and become somebody who gives orders as well as takes them. Xavier’s brother, Wazi Carr (RJ Cyler), is a Crips-affiliated petty criminal who sleeps on a bare mattress at his mama’s house. He’s in shock over secretly witnessing an LAPD officer murdering someone close to him, and fears a Night Patrol member will kill him to prevent him from testifying about what he saw. Screenings will take place at several locations (Metro Cinema, Alberta Art Gallery, Landmark City Center Cinemas) showcasing pan-asian filmmakers internationally as well as locally. FascinAsian Film Festival is a culturally specific film festival based in the Prairie region of Canada. The festival, which began in Winnipeg in 2021, expanded to Calgary in 2022, then launched in Edmonton in 2025, celebrates Asian contributions to the film and media landscape and aims to showcase the talents of Asian-Canadian and Asian-American artists in film. It will screen as part of Dreamspeakers International Indigenous Film Festival on Saturday April 18th at 7PM at Landmark City Centre Cinemas. There will be a post-screening Q&A panel after the film with elders Jerry & Jo-Ann Saddleback hosted by Connor McNally and Coty Savard. FOSTER CHILD: ohpikihâkan awâsis... An important figure in the history of Canadian Indigenous filmmaking, Gil Cardinal was born to a Métis mother but raised by a non-Indigenous foster family, and with this autobiographical documentary, he charts his efforts to find his biological mother and to understand why he was removed from her. Considered a milestone in documentary cinema, it addressed the country’s internal colonialism in a profoundly personal manner, winning a Special Jury Prize at Banff and multiple international awards. “ Foster Child” is one of the great docs to come out of Canada and nobody, but Gil could have made it,” says writer and broadcaster Jesse Wente, the former Director of Canada’s Indigenous Screen Office. “Gil made it possible for us to think about putting our own stories on the screen, and that was something new and important.”

The feature directorial debut of Anthony Oberbeck (Dad & Stepdad, Reveries: The Mind Prison), LITTLE DOORS is a relentlessly deadpan comedy about loneliness, love, and the pain of human connection. In a strangely quiet, apocalyptic world, a lonely, reticent, and perpetually scowling woman is one day visited by an odd, but good-natured locksmith. They tumble awkwardly into their own strange, stilted version of a romance, and just as a real connection seems to be forming, the woman discovers a small wooden door on the side of her body. Oberbeck stars, with his wife Megan Koester, in a movie indebted stylistically to Aki Kaurismaki, Jim Jarmusch, and Yorgos Lanthimos, but moving very much with its own distinctly absurd logic and quietly thoughtful surrealism.
