Welcome to Glitterland
Listen on Apple PodcastsAs I approach my 55th birthday and feeling nostalgic, I’ve been reminiscing back to when I was first exposed to club music in the late 70’s & through the 80’s. Most of these songs were not played on Australian radio back then but lucky for me I had older family friends that were already going out clubbing in Sydney (I think the nightclub they would frequent was called Swensons), and they would always play music they were hearing on the dancefloor for me. It was them that introduced me to a record store called Disco City where we would buy imported remixes not available in mainstream record stores. These are just some of the songs that influenced me in a big way during that era. The opening track “Groove Me” by Fern Kinney took me to another dimension when I first heard it when I was 9 years old in 1980 and I became obsessed with dance music (or “Funk” as it was commonly called in those days). Being exposed to electronic music at that early age was inspiring for me and my obsession only grew stronger over the years that followed. When I was in my mid teens, a close family friend opened a small record store himself and he would get imported remixes fresh off the press and that was where I first learned how to beat mix, on vinyl. I nailed it almost instantly and was hooked on that euphoric feeling of blending two tracks together perfectly. It clearly planted a seed that would blossom many years later when I decided to become a DJ in 2006. Being underage when I started going out to clubs like Marconi and Flashez, I realised I was always destined to be on a dancefloor. The rest is history and I’m so honoured that so many of you are a part of my passion today. Sharing great dance music is a dream come true and I’m truly blessed to be doing what I love all over the world. At this rate , I’ll be dancing until I can dance no more. I hope you enjoy the flashbacks as much as I did back in my early childhood.
