Fans of The Walking Dead know it's so much more than a zombie show. It's an emotionally rich, character-driven series about love and loss, and found family, and the lengths we'd go through to protect the people we care about. That's what's kept us coming back all these years. (And also we like zombies.) I’m Jason Cabassi. My cohost Karen and I started podcasting about The Walking Dead back in 2010. Along the way, I’ve appeared on the show a couple of times as a walker, hosted hundreds of Q&A panels with TWD actors at conventions across the U.S., and eventually teamed up with my current co-host, the witty and insightful Lucy Hinnie. Together—with some incredible guests—we’ve covered The Last of Us and every Walking Dead spinoff, from Fear to Dead City. Right now, we’re enjoying a rewatch of the original series—with the full story in mind—and diving into the moments that still hit hard. Past guests on the podcast include Andrew Lincoln (Rick), Danai Gurira (Michonne), Norman Reedus (Daryl), Steven Yeun (Glenn), Lauren Cohan (Maggie), Robert Kirkman, Angela Kang, Greg Nicotero, and many more. And the most fun and fulfilling part of all this has absolutely been interacting with you guys and making it a conversation. So write in, send a voice message, and be part of it! Reposted from Wax Episodic, which you can find at: https://podcastica.com/podcast/wax-episodic — Surprise! Here’s Jason, Veronica, and Amelie with coverage of the first five episodes of Apple TV’s dystopian sci-fi mystery, Silo! Synopsis: In a dystopian future where a community exists in a giant silo hundreds of stories deep underground, ten thousand people live in a society full of regulations they believe are meant to protect them. But some wonder if they’ve been lied to about why this silo was created and why they’re there. It’s a beautiful, brilliant, funny, gripping, mysterious, thrilling, thought-provoking show, meticulously crafted in every way. Hosted by Jason and Karen. Fallout (Amazon): A crazy retro-futuristic post-apocalyptic melange of wholesomeness and depravity. One of the best looking shows on TV, funny as hell, violent AF (but in a cartoony way), and with a great cast, including Ella Purnell (Yellowjackets) and Walton Goggins (The White Lotus, The Righteous Gemstones). Not to be missed! Hosted by Jason, Kara, and Kasi. Pluribus (Apple TV): Everyone is transformed into a pleasant hive mind — except for Carol (Rhea Seehorn), the most miserable woman on the planet, who must save the world from happiness. It’s sounds weird, and it is… in the best way. Created by the great Vince Gilligan, of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Hosted by Jason and Karen! IT: Welcome to Derry (HBO): A fun, scary, and surprisingly great prequel to the 2016 and 2019 IT movies, Pennywise stalks the children of 1962 Derry. A mix of heart, mystery, charm, and some shockingly disturbing Nightmare on Elme Street-esque horror. Cohosted by Shawn of Strange Indeed. Alien: Earth (FX): From the brilliant Noah Hawley (Fargo, Legion), this one really scratches that sci-fi itch. A greedy corporate tech overlord transfers the consciousness of a group of terminally ill children into highly performant synth bodies. And the Xenomorph is in it, too. Also, Tim Olyphant! Hosted by Jason, Kara, and Randy. Check out other podcasts on our network at podcastica.com. Digging our podcast? Ben and Alex are back to kick off coverage of The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3! This week, they break down the premiere, "Trillium," discussing Maggie and Negan's evolving relationship, the emotional aftermath of Ginny's death, the introduction of intriguing new characters like Renata, Luis, and Dillard, and what the episode's themes of hope, forgiveness, and redemption could mean for the season ahead. They also share their thoughts on the return of the Dama, new revelations from San Diego Comic-Con, and plenty of theories about where Dead City is headed next. Next up: TWD: Dead City S3E2 “Haven”. Here's another bonus episode for you guys I'm sneaking in before Dead City S3, covering the new installment in one of my favorite horror series, Evil Dead. This is reposted from the long-dormant Evil Dead 'Cast, where my cohosts Rich, Chris, and I covered all the past Evil Dead movies and shows, and which you can find at podcastica.com/podcast/evil-dead-cast-an-ash-vs-evil-dead-podcast-baby --- Hello friends! Another Evil Dead movie has been spawned, and thus, we must podcast! Something a bit different this time, a little weightier, more dramatic. Is that good? Listen in and find out what we thought. Mentioned: Trailer for Bruce Cambpell’s upcoming new movie, Ernie & Emma: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lUAbQfKc94 Next up: We’ll be back in 2028 for Evil Dead Wrath, and maybe we’ll sneak in an episode or two in before that. In the meantime, we’ve been really busy covering a bunch of other great shows…. Check out my (Jason’s) other podcast, Wax Episodic, where friends and I cover our favorite current shows, like: It: Welcome to Derry, the horrific HBO series, prequel to the recent It movies based on the Stephen King book. While we wait for Dead City S3, here's a repost of the Jeffrey Dean Morgan panel from Walker Stalker Con Atlanta 2016. This happened just a few days after S7E1 aired, so it was fresh in people's minds, and it was JDM's first convention appearance as Negan. One of my favorite panels ever. JDM slips in and out of character, and quickly wins the crowd over. Let's see if he'll do the same for you :) We're also joined by Greg Nicotero, who directed the S7 premiere and gives a lot of great info on the thinking and logistics behind it. Enjoying the rewatch? There’s so much weight to this episode, in different ways. It’s absolutely landmark episode of The Walking Dead. And I didn’t remember how much it was just Negan applying constant pressure to Rick, until he breaks. Yes, it’s hard to watch, and I don’t blame anyone who thought it was too much. And also I think for what it was, it was done so well. Lucy and I are so pleased to be joined by Ben for this one to help us do it justice. Of course Ben hosts this podcast for Dead City coverage, and I think it was a good balance of viewpoints among the three of us. Hope you enjoy! As we mentioned on the podcast, the rewatch will be on hiatus for awhile after this one. Sometime in the next two weeks I’ll be joined by Chris of The Talking Dead podcast and Rich to cover the new Evil Dead movie, Evil Dead Burn, and then soon after, Alex and Ben will be on for Dead City S3! Welp, it’s time. Here’s Negan! Such a polarizing character, and y’all know I have my gripes. But I absolutely can’t deny he brought a huge shot of adrenaline to this show. He’s a character I often find incredibly fun to watch, and also, in some ways, frustratingly problematic. I’m very glad to have Alex here—cohost of our Dead City coverage and a huge Negan fan—to go over this landmark episode, with maybe the most iconic scene in all of The Walking Dead. So buckle up. Whether you like it or not, it’s pee-pee pants city time. Mentioned Fantastic interview with Scott Gimple (video): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kc9KuGaSCAY Enjoying the rewatch? Ugh, it’s this one. The feeling of what it was like for us to watch this episode is well-captured by the look on most characters’ faces throughout. What a breath of fresh air this episode is after the intensity and trauma of the season so far. The lightness and warmth of it are such a welcome relief. And what a milestone it is to see Rick and Michonne finally get together. The first time around it felt abrupt to some, but this rewatch has made it clear they were destined for each other from the moment they met. We’re happy to be joined this week by special guest Clare Reterrer, one of the biggest Rick/Michonne shippers I know. Has there ever been a scene in TWD as badass as Rick and crew and all the Alexandrians hacking and slashing their way through a horde of invading zeds?! I mean, amazing episode, and I’m happy to share it with special guest Veronica, who ranks it as her very favorite. PS I’m personally pouring one out for the Anderson family: Jesse, Ron, and especially poor Sam. You’re gone, but not forgotten! 700 episodes in and we’re still having a blast talking about The Walking Dead! Crazy. We’re happy to be joined by Chris Fairhurst of The Talking Dead podcast to take a look back at 15+ years of watching and podcasting about this show. And then Lucy and I talk out this episode, where the zeds finally storm Alexandria! Glenn emerges from under the infamous dumpster in this otherwise (we thought) not-super-exciting episode. Thankfully though, the church tower fell at the end and crushed part of the wall. Phew! This ep is one of the lower-rated ones this season, but my wonderful guest Rebecca and I found a lot to talk about. Two particularly crucial things about this ep, IMO, are: 1: It’s when the Alexandrians finally come to terms with the world as it is in the ZA, and 2. There’s a really cool sewer zombie! Oh yeah, and Maggie reveals she’s pregnant too :) Enjoy! It’s the cheesemaker! Some of you guys love this episode and some hate it — a polarizing one for sure. Even though I see it differently now, I still love and appreciate it so much. Top-tier TWD for me. But I think my take is more nuanced than last time, and it was a blast to have Alex Kruger (who co-hosted our TWD: Dead City coverage with Ben) with me to thoroughly talk it through.
