Today on a special episode of Out of the Jaws, Adam speaks with Brad Lander, candidate for the 10th congressional district in New York, former New York City Comptroller, city council member, and general fixture of New York City politics going back decades. They talk about what the pro-democracy coalition can and should be doing today, what the new Congress should do next year, who should be prosecuted after Trump's term ends, whether court reform is a good idea, and how simply being a better neighbor can lay the foundations for resisting authoritarianism.
Are liberalism and socialism completely incompatible? Ryan and Adam talk with University of Michigan Lecturer in Political Science Matthew McManus and Liberal Currents co-founder and Associate Editor Paul Crider about their book, What Is Liberal Socialism? What does each one lack that the other one offers? To what extent is it all just arbitrary boundary drawing around particular thinkers and ideas? What can liberal socialism offer in this moment of crisis that either tradition alone cannot?
The old institutions are being eroded and colonized by new media personalities. Is this apocalyptic or is it the path to a more hopeful future?
