Last week my oven broke. And while I was troubleshooting the problem, I had a moment in my kitchen that I haven't stopped thinking about since, because the fix was so simple, and the reminder was so needed. Sometimes the best thing we can do isn't add more, try harder, or find a better system. Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is simply unplug. In this episode, I'm sharing that little oven story and what it reminded me about how we're living, especially as we head into summer after a long, full, demanding season of life. This episode is for you if you: Are heading into summer feeling tired, maxed out, or completely done Keep pushing through exhaustion instead of actually resting Feel guilty slowing down even when your body and mind are begging you to Want permission to let this summer look and feel a little different Are ready to stop troubleshooting and just... breathe for a while We'll explore: The oven story that started it all, and the simple fix that changed my thinking Why we weren't designed to run continuously, and what happens when we do The subtle signs that you might be overdue for a reset What summer is quietly inviting us into if we're willing to receive it What unplugging actually looks like in real, everyday home life Why rest isn't a reward you earn, it's what you need How this connects to the Holistic Home Method Whether you're dreaming of a slower summer or just trying to survive the next few weeks, this episode is here to remind you that you don't have to keep running on empty. The most important thing you can do for your home right now might just be to stop, disconnect, and let yourself reset. Because just like my oven, you tend to work a whole lot better after a real reset. Let's give ourselves permission to unplug this summer. You deserve it. And honestly? Your home will thank you for it. Summer is just around the corner and schedules are shifting, so if your routines are falling off the rails, you are not alone and you are not the problem. In this episode, we're talking about one of the most common struggles in homemaking: building routines that actually hold up in real life, especially when seasons and schedules shift. I'm sharing a concept from the Plans & Routines Foundation of the Holistic Home Method called Routine Trains and Anchor Times, two simple concepts that take the pressure off your memory and work with the natural rhythm of your day instead of against it. This episode is for you if you've ever: Built the perfect routine on paper and forgotten it by Tuesday Felt like your routines fall apart the moment life gets busy or seasons change Wondered if you just lack the discipline or motivation to be consistent Found yourself carrying too many open loops and feeling constantly behind We'll explore: Why most routines fail, and why it has nothing to do with willpower What Routine Trains are and how connecting your habits changes everything How to make your routines flexible enough to survive real life and seasonal shifts What Anchor Times are and how the transitions already in your day can do the work for you How to rethink your routines as summer approaches so you're working with the season, not fighting it Whether you're heading into summer with a blank slate or trying to salvage a routine that's already started to unravel, this episode will give you a fresh, practical way to think about building rhythms that actually support your home and your life. Let's simplify the way we build routines, reduce the mental load, and create a little more flow, one train car at a time. We talk a lot about clutter in the homemaking world, the piles on the counter, the overflowing closets, the junk drawer that haunts us. But what about the clutter that doesn't show up in your home at all? What about the clutter hiding in your calendar? In this episode, we're diving into one of the most overlooked forms of clutter I teach inside the Holistic Home Method - time clutter. And I'm sharing a very personal story about a decision our family made a few years ago that gave us back something we didn't even realize we'd lost: margin, presence, and the kind of ordinary days that actually feel like home. This episode is for you if you've ever: Said yes to something and immediately felt heavier for it Watched your family move through life at a pace that left everyone depleted Wondered why your home still feels chaotic even when the physical clutter is under control Felt the pull of FOMO when you tried to simplify your schedule Sensed that something needs to go, but felt guilty even considering it We'll explore: The three H's of clutter inside the Holistic Home Method (Head, Heart, and Home) and where time clutter fits in Why time clutter is so hard to recognize, and what makes it different from other kinds of clutter The story of how our family let go of spring sports, and what happened when we did How overscheduling shows up in your mind, your emotions, and your home all at once A simple four-step process for releasing time clutter with intention and without guilt Why the margin you create might be the most important thing you give your family this season Whether you're running on empty from a schedule that never seems to slow down, or you're in a quieter season and wondering if you're doing enough, this episode is here to remind you that a full calendar is not the same thing as a full life. You are allowed to let something go. You are allowed to protect the white space. And sometimes the most powerful thing you can do for your home is simply to stop filling it with more. We talk a lot about why home feels hard. We troubleshoot the systems, we tweak the routines, we reorganize the spaces. But so often, the real reason home feels heavy has nothing to do with any of that, and everything to do with something far less visible. In this episode, we're talking about the invisible work of home. The mental load. The endless, always-running, never-fully-acknowledged effort that goes into managing a home and family, and why it is so much more than the sum of its tasks. We're starting with a story you're probably going to recognize: two days spent going through my kids' closets for the seasonal clothing swap. On the surface, it sounds like a simple task. But when you look at everything underneath it, the tracking, the anticipating, the relational awareness, the years of accumulated knowledge, it starts to look a lot more like what it actually is. Real work. Skilled work. Work that deserves to be seen. This episode is for you if you: Have ever been asked "what do you do all day?" and didn't know how to answer Feel exhausted in a way you can't quite explain or justify Carry most of the mental load in your home and are starting to feel the weight of it Work outside the home and still somehow manage to hold everything together inside it too Have dismissed your own exhaustion because the work you do doesn't come with recognition or a paycheck We'll explore: What the mental load actually is, and why it's so hard to see, even for the person carrying it A real-life example broken down layer by layer, so you can start to recognize it in your own life Why the work of homemaking has genuine value, whether or not anyone acknowledges it Why sharing or outsourcing the load isn't a nice to have, but rather a necessity What shifts when you finally stop calling it "just life" and start calling it what it is Whether you're a full-time homemaker, a working mom, or somewhere in between, this episode is here to remind you that the reason home feels hard is not because you're failing. It's because you're carrying something real. And you deserve a home that supports you. You're not behind. You're not weak. You're not doing it wrong. You're doing an enormous amount of work that mostly goes unseen and today, we're going to see it. What does it actually mean to create home holistically and why does it matter so much for modern homemakers? In this episode, we're going back to the foundations. If you've ever felt like you're working hard at home but still feel like something is off, this one is for you. We're unpacking what holistic homemaking really is, why home has a bigger impact on our wellbeing than most of us realize, and how the Five Foundations of Home, the modern homemaking framework at the heart of everything I teach, can help you move from overwhelmed to genuinely supported. This episode is for you if you've ever: Felt like you're doing all the things at home, but still feel behind Tried a new system or routine, only to watch it fall apart within weeks Sensed that something is off in your home, but couldn't quite put your finger on what Wondered why surface-level fixes never seem to create lasting change Wanted a clearer, more connected way to approach your home and homemaking We'll explore: Why home contributes to our wellbeing more than we often give it credit for The five most common challenges modern homemakers face, and why they're all connected What it actually means to create home holistically, and why it changes everything An overview of the Five Foundations of Home: Mindset & Motivation, Release & Reset, Plans & Routines, Design & Décor, and Cyclical Living Why a whole-home approach works when patchwork fixes don't Whether you're brand new to holistic homemaking or you've been circling this idea for a while, this episode will give you a clear framework for understanding your home and yourself in a whole new way. Because your home is meant to support you. And when it isn't, that's not a personal failure. It's a signal that something in the system needs attention. Let's figure out what that is together. If you've ever had a week where you were completely on top of your home , feeling motivated, capable, and everything is running smoothly. And then the very next week you could barely do the dishes, this episode is for you. Not because something is wrong with you, but because something important has been missing from the conversation about homemaking, and today we're talking about it. Your energy was never meant to be the same every day. Your body moves in rhythms, in seasons, in cycles. And when we stop fighting that and start working with it, homemaking gets lighter. Not because we're doing less, but because we're finally doing the right things at the right time. Today we're exploring the connection between your body's natural cycles and the way you run your home, and I'm sharing a simple, compassionate framework called the four inner seasons that can change the way you see yourself as a homemaker. This episode is for you if you've ever: Felt wildly capable at home one week and completely depleted the next, with no idea why Pushed yourself to follow a routine that worked last week but feels impossible this week Wondered if you're just not consistent enough, not disciplined enough, not trying hard enough Heard of cyclical living but never understood what it actually has to do with your home We'll explore: Why most homemaking advice is built on a flawed assumption about your energy What cyclical living actually is, and why it matters for modern homemakers The four inner seasons ( winter, spring, summer, and fall ) and what each one asks of you at home What cyclical homemaking looks like in real, practical terms, phase by phase Why this is about more than productivity, and how it can shift the way you see yourself How to begin without overhauling everything or adding one more thing to your plate Whether you're brand new to the idea of cyclical living or you've been curious about it for a while, this episode is here to remind you that your fluctuating energy is not a flaw. It never was. It's a rhythm. And there is a way of running your home that honors it. Let's stop fighting our cycles and start coming home to them instead. Have you ever finished decorating a room, stepped back, and thought... something still isn't right? You've shopped for it, hunted for pieces, arranged and rearranged until it looked good. And yet something feels off. Not bad. Just not quite what you hoped. In this episode, we're getting into why that happens, and it has a lot less to do with your decorating skills than you might think. Years ago, a living room refresh took me way too long to get right, no matter how many times I swapped the rug or rearranged the furniture. And I'm sharing what I finally understood was missing, not just in that room, but in the way most of us approach decorating our homes. This episode is part of the Design and Decor Foundation of the Holistic Home Method, and today we're starting at the very beginning: the foundational steps that make everything else work. This episode is for you if you've ever: Decorated a space and still felt like something was missing Found yourself endlessly tweaking a room without knowing why it isn't clicking Bought things you loved individually but couldn't get them to work together Wondered why your home looks fine but doesn't feel like you Designed a space for how it looks rather than how you actually live in it We'll explore: The two traps most of us fall into when decorating our homes Why following trends and buying without intention leaves us feeling disconnected from our spaces How decorating for looks instead of function creates daily friction you can feel even when you can't name it The three things that change everything: vision, intention, and function What it actually looks like to decorate from the inside out Why your home can be full of beautiful things and still not feel like yours Whether you're in the middle of a room refresh, feeling stuck in a space that just won't come together, or simply trying to understand why your home doesn't feel the way you hoped, this episode is here to help you see your home differently. Because the goal was never a perfectly decorated house. It was a home that actually feels like you. Let's talk about how to get there. One of the most common frustrations in modern homemaking is routines that just don’t stick. You start the week with a plan. Maybe you’ve mapped it out beautifully, created a checklist, and finally feel like this is the routine that will work. And for a day or two, it does. But then life happens. And suddenly everything falls apart… leaving you wondering what’s wrong with you, why you can’t keep up, and why everyone else seems to have this figured out. What if it’s not you? What if the real problem isn’t your discipline… but the design of the routine itself? In this episode, I'm walking you through why routines really fall apart, and what it looks like to build a home plan that actually fits your real life, not some ideal version of it. This episode is for you if you've ever: Felt like you just can’t “stick to” routines no matter how hard you try Blamed yourself for falling off track or not being consistent Created plans that look good on paper but don’t work in real life Felt overwhelmed by trying to manage your home, time, and energy all at once Wanted a way to create more ease and flow in your home, without rigid rules We'll explore: Why most routines fall apart (and why it’s not a willpower problem) How “ideal life routines” set you up to fail in real life The impact of your energy, seasons, and nervous system on your routines The powerful reframe from rigid schedules to supportive routines Five simple shifts to build routines that actually fit your life This episode is a gentle but important reminder that your routine is meant to support your life, not the other way around. Inside the Holistic Home Method we focus on creating plans and routines that align with your real capacity, your real season, and your real home, so you can move from surviving your days… to actually living them. Whether you’re starting fresh or rebuilding after things have fallen apart, this conversation will help you approach your routines with more compassion, clarity, and intention. Because you don’t need to try harder. You need something that actually works with you. Clutter is one of those things we tend to blame on being busy, disorganized, or just not having enough storage. But what if the real reason your home feels stuck has nothing to do with any of that? In this episode, we're diving into a concept that completely changed the way I think about clutter and why letting go can feel so hard even when we genuinely want to. We're talking about clutter blocks, seven emotional stories we tell ourselves about our things that keep us from releasing what we no longer use, need, or want. This framework comes from the work of Tracy McCubbin, a professional organizer and author, and it's one of those ideas I've returned to again and again because it gets to the root of something so many of us experience. This episode is for you if you have ever: Tried to declutter but kept stalling out without knowing why Felt strangely attached to things you know you don't actually need Held onto items out of guilt, grief, or a sense of obligation Wondered why the practical tips never seem to stick long term Sensed that your clutter is about something deeper than just the stuff We'll explore: What a clutter block actually is and why naming it changes everything All seven emotional clutter blocks and what each one reveals about our beliefs The underlying stories driving each block, from identity and worth to grief, avoidance, and self-permission Reflection questions to help you identify which blocks might be showing up in your own home A more compassionate and holistic way to approach letting go Whether your clutter lives in a closet, a garage, a storage unit, or a pile that's been following you from house to house, this episode is here to help you understand what's really going on beneath the surface. Because when you can name the story, you can finally start to change it. Let's go beneath the clutter and find out what it's really trying to tell us. In this episode, we’re going a little deeper and exploring some emotional patterns that quietly shape the way our homes feel. Often, when we are stressed and our homes feel tense, heavy, or disconnected, we assume it’s about the clutter, the routines, or the never-ending to-do lists. But what if it’s not just what we’re doing, but how we are thinking about and responding to our homes. Today, we’re looking at five emotional patterns, introduced as “emotional cancers”, that can slowly erode connection, communication, and the overall atmosphere of our homes. And more importantly, how we can begin to shift them. This episode is for you if you’ve ever: Felt tension or disconnection in your home, but couldn’t quite name why Found yourself feeling frustrated, critical, or overwhelmed in your daily life at home Compared your home or your capacity to others and felt like you were falling short Felt stuck in cycles of resentment, miscommunication, or emotional distance Desired a home that feels calmer, more connected, and more supportive We’ll explore: The five emotional patterns that quietly create stress at home (criticizing, complaining, comparing, competing, and contending) How these patterns show up in everyday homemaking and relationships Why these behaviors are often signals of deeper overwhelm, unmet needs, or disconnection The impact these patterns have on the emotional safety and energy of your home Simple, practical ways to begin replacing these patterns with more supportive and connected ways of relating Because homemaking is not just about what we clean, organize, or decorate… It’s about the emotional environment we create through our thoughts, our words, and our responses. When we begin to shift these patterns, gently and imperfectly, we begin to create homes that feel lighter, safer, and more aligned with the life we truly want to live. So if your home has been feeling a little heavier than you’d like…this episode is an invitation to pause, reflect, and begin again with more awareness, compassion, and intention. Because small shifts in how we show up can change everything about how home feels. In this episode, I’m sharing a reflection from our recent family trip to Japan, and how it reshaped the way I think about home, space, and modern homemaking. Years ago, I read The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo, and like so many others, I was inspired to declutter my home in a big way. It changed how I saw my space… but it also left me wondering why it felt so hard to actually live out . After experiencing Japan firsthand, I’m beginning to understand why. This episode is for you if you’ve ever: Tried decluttering methods and still felt overwhelmed Felt like organizing “should be easier” but it never sticks Wondered why your home feels heavy even after tidying Felt like you’ve failed at systems that work for others Wanted your home to feel lighter, calmer, and more aligned We’ll explore: Why The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up became a global movement, and the strengths of the KonMari Method Why the method can feel difficult to maintain in real family life What Japanese culture reveals about space, rhythm, and everyday life Five Japanese concepts that offer a different way of thinking about home: Ma - The power of space Wabi-Sabi - The beauty of imperfection Ichi-go Ichi-e - Being present in the moment Kanso - Intentional simplicity Omoiyari - Shared care and consideration How these ideas connect to modern homemaking and your everyday rhythms Why your home isn’t meant to be perfect — it’s meant to support your life Whether you’ve tried to declutter before or are simply longing for a home that feels calmer and more aligned, this episode is an invitation to look beyond methods… and begin to understand your relationship with space, stuff, and home in a new way. Because homemaking isn’t about doing more or getting it perfect… It’s about creating alignment between your life, your energy, and your space. Let this be a gentle reminder that you don’t need to overhaul everything to create change. Small shifts… thoughtful choices… and a different way of seeing your home can make all the difference. In this episode, we’re continuing the conversation about spring as the natural new year. It is a season that invites fresh starts, renewed energy, and the opportunity to move forward again. After the slower, reflective months of winter, something begins to shift when spring arrives. The light returns, the world around us wakes up, and many of us feel a quiet pull toward planning, goal setting, and creating new possibilities in our homes and lives. But at the same time, life can feel noisy and overwhelming. News cycles, social media, responsibilities, and the mental load of home can easily pull our attention in a hundred different directions. When everything feels loud, it can become difficult to focus on what we truly want. In this episode, we’re slowing down and reconnecting with a more intentional way to approach goals, one that begins with clarity, values, and the feelings we want to create in our lives. This episode is for you if you’ve ever: Felt distracted or overwhelmed and unsure what to focus on next Had goals or projects sitting in the back of your mind for months (or years) Wanted to create more peace, clarity, and direction in your home and life Needed a gentle reset to reconnect with what truly matters to you We’ll explore: Why spring can feel like the real new year and why it’s a powerful time to revisit your goals Why so many of us feel stuck or overwhelmed when thinking about planning and goal setting How unfinished projects and “mental loops” create pressure in our homes and minds A more meaningful way to approach goal setting by starting with the feelings we want to experience The five elements of intentional planning from Spring Planning Week, including clarity, values, habits, and sustainable change You’ll also hear about Spring Planning, a free five-day guided experience designed to help you reconnect with what you want and move forward with intention. Through short video lessons, reflection prompts, and a workbook, this process walks you through the steps of setting meaningful goals and creating real momentum for the season ahead. Whether you’re hoping to finally tackle a project in your home, build new routines, invest in your personal wellness, or simply reconnect with what matters most, this episode is here to remind you that you don’t need to have everything figured out all at once. Sometimes the most powerful step we can take is to pause… reconnect with what we truly want… and begin again. Spring is a beautiful season for new beginnings, and your next chapter might start with something as simple as clarity. Let’s slow down, reconnect with our direction, and take the next small step forward together. In this episode, we’re exploring the energy of spring - a season that naturally invites us to begin again. Every January, we’re encouraged to set resolutions and start fresh. But for many of us, those intentions fade quickly. Winter can be a season of low energy, rest, and reflection… not necessarily the best time to push ourselves into big changes. Spring is different. As the days grow longer and the light returns, our energy begins to rise again. We feel the urge to open the windows, clear the clutter, and create space for something new. In many ways, spring can feel like a more natural new year. It is a season of renewal, possibility, and fresh beginnings. In this episode, we’re talking about how to embrace the energetic new year of spring , and why releasing what no longer belongs in our homes and lives can help us make room for what truly matters. This episode is for you if you’ve ever: Set New Year’s goals that didn’t quite stick Felt the urge to declutter or spring clean as the seasons change Wanted to reset your home, habits, or routines after a long winter Needed a gentle reminder that it’s never too late to begin again We’ll explore: Why spring often feels like the real energetic new year How the rising energy of the season can support new intentions The power of release and reset before adding new goals or commitments Clearing mental, emotional, and physical clutter in your life and home The concept of Swedish Death Cleaning , and how simplifying our belongings can become an act of care for ourselves and others Whether you’re feeling inspired to declutter your home, revisit goals that faded earlier in the year, or simply welcome the fresh energy of the season, this episode offers a gentle invitation to pause, release, and begin again. Spring reminds us that renewal is always possible. So let’s open the windows, clear a little space, welcome the rising energy of the season, and make room for what we truly want to grow in the year ahead. In this episode of Modern Homemaking , we’re talking about something that sits at the very heart of what it means to create a home that truly supports you. Most wellness conversations focus on things like diet, exercise, supplements, and self-care routines. But one of the biggest influences on our wellbeing is something we rarely talk about in wellness spaces: Our homes. The spaces we wake up in each morning. The routines we move through every day. The emotional atmosphere within our walls. In this episode, we explore the eight dimensions of wellness and how each one shows up within our homes and the work of homemaking. Because homemaking isn’t just about keeping up with chores or decorating beautifully. It’s about creating an environment that supports the wellbeing of the people who live there, including you. This episode is for you if you’ve ever: Felt overwhelmed by everything it takes to run a home Wondered why your home sometimes feels draining instead of supportive Wanted your home to feel calmer, healthier, and more aligned with your life Believed that homemaking could be more meaningful than simply managing tasks In this episode, we explore: Why your home environment has a powerful influence on your wellbeing The eight dimensions of wellness and how they show up in everyday life at home How routines, spaces, and rhythms quietly shape your mental and emotional health The connection between homemaking and supporting the wellbeing of your family Why creating a healthier home doesn’t require perfection, just intention When we begin to see our homes through the lens of wellbeing, something shifts. Home stops feeling like a long list of responsibilities… and starts becoming a place that supports your health, your relationships, and your sense of peace. Because the environment you live in every day quietly shapes the way life feels inside it. So whether you’re decluttering a room, adjusting your routines, or simply becoming more aware of the atmosphere in your home, this episode will encourage you to see homemaking in a whole new light. Let’s explore how creating a healthier home can support a healthier life. Are you happy at home? It’s a simple question… but many of us don’t slow down enough to really ask it. When we do, we often start thinking about our physical home, whether it’s clean, how it looks, or whether we feel proud of it. But happiness at home isn’t just about the state of our space. It’s also about how we are living within it. In this episode of Modern Homemaking , we’re exploring the deeper connection between home, happiness, and wellbeing. Drawing on ideas from psychology, environmental influence, and holistic homemaking, we’ll talk about how our homes shape how we think, feel, and move through our daily lives. Because creating a happier home isn’t just about doing more. It’s about alignment. When your mindset, environment, routines, and energy begin working together, home can become one of the most supportive and nourishing places in your life. This episode is for you if you’ve ever: • Felt overwhelmed by your home and wondered why it affects you so deeply • Questioned whether your home is supporting your wellbeing or draining it • Wanted your home to feel calmer, lighter, or more aligned with your life • Suspected that happiness at home is about more than cleaning, organizing, or decorating We’ll explore: • Why the question “Are you happy at home?” matters more than we might think • What psychology teaches us about happiness and wellbeing • How our home environment influences our mood, stress, and energy • Why happiness at home often has less to do with your home, and more to do with how you’re living in it • Small shifts you can make to help your home feel more supportive and aligned Whether you’re navigating overwhelm at home, craving more peace in your space, or simply wanting to feel better in your everyday life, this episode is here to remind you that creating a happier home doesn’t require perfection. Sometimes it starts with simply asking the right question. Are you happy at home? And if the answer isn’t quite yet… small shifts can begin to change how life feels, one step at a time. In this episode, we’re opening a brand new chapter. After years of avoiding the word homemaking , I’m finally claiming it, and renaming this show Modern Homemaking . This isn’t just a new title. It’s a shift in clarity, courage, and calling. For a long time, I resisted using the words homemaking and homemaker in my messaging. I worried about stereotypes, misunderstandings, and being reduced to something smaller than the work I actually do. But over time, I realized something important: the very word I was avoiding was the one my audience was searching for. Today, I’m sharing why I changed the name of the podcast, what modern homemaking truly means, and why I believe homemaking matters now more than ever. This episode is for you if you’ve ever: Felt conflicted about the title “homemaker” Wanted to care deeply about home without being boxed into outdated roles Struggled with how homemaking is perceived in modern culture Felt called to create a healthier, happier home, but wanted a more thoughtful approach We’ll explore: Why I avoided the word homemaking for so long The uncomfortable realization that people couldn’t find my work The story of my old baking pans, and what they taught me about growth and letting go What modern homemaking really means in today’s world How the Holistic Home Method supports mindset, routines, decluttering, design, and cyclical living Modern homemaking is not about shrinking yourself. It’s not about perfection or silent sacrifice. It’s about leadership inside your home. It’s about understanding how your space shapes your mental health, your relationships, and your daily life. In a world that feels loud and divided, tending to home with intention is powerful, and more important than ever.. Whether you’ve been here since the beginning or you found this podcast by searching for modern homemaking, I’m so glad you’re here. Together, let’s build happier and healthier homes. Welcome to Modern Homemaking. 💛 Links & Resources Mentioned in This Episode: Love Your Home Coaching: https://www.thecommonnest.com/coaching Take the Holistic Home QUIZ - Free https://www.thecommonnest.com/quiz Let’s Connect! Today marks a milestone. Celebrating 100 episodes of The Common Nest Podcast. When I pressed record on episode one two years ago, I had no idea what this show would become. I didn’t know who would listen. I didn’t know if I would keep going. I didn’t know how these conversations would shape me. But here we are… 100 conversations about home. Not just cleaning and decluttering and decorating… But mindset. Invisible labor. Mental load. Cultural pressure. Marriage and motherhood. Rest and leadership. Grief, faith, politics and the seasons of life. In this episode, I’m reflecting on what 100 conversations about homemaking have taught me and sharing the ten lessons I’ve learned. I’m also sharing what I deeply wish every homemaker understood about home, their role, and the weight their carrying. This episode is for you if you’ve ever: Felt behind in your home Wondered why homemaking feels heavier than it “should” Struggled with clutter that feels deeper than just stuff Felt exhausted and questioned your capacity Carried invisible labor that no one else seems to notice Wanted to create a peaceful home without burning yourself out Needed reassurance that you’re not failing We’ll explore: Why home truly starts within The difference between incompetence and overload Why clutter is often emotional, not just physical The real purpose of routines (hint: it’s not productivity) Why design and beauty are not superficial How exhaustion distorts everything at home Homemaking as leadership, not servitude or submission The hidden cultural forces shaping your expectations Why you cannot pour from an empty cup Why alignment, and not perfection, is the true goal Why you are not behind Why home was never meant to be managed alone Why your worth is not measured by productivity Why tending to yourself is part of tending your home Why your current season matters more than you think Whether you’ve been here since episode one or you’re just finding the show now, this episode is both a celebration and a closing of a chapter. Here’s to 100 conversations about home and to what’s coming next. In this episode, we’re talking about love, but not the soft, sentimental kind that fills store windows in February. We are talking about the kind of love that holds up when the world feels heavy. Because if you’re honest, the world right now feels heavy, divided, activating and loud. There is injustice playing out publicly. There is anger in the air. There are communities, particularly people of color, women, and members of the LGBTQ community, who are feeling the weight of hatred in very real ways. And maybe you’ve felt it in your body too. The grief. The outrage. The exhaustion. So what do we do with all of it? After hearing the phrase, “The only thing more powerful than hate is love,” I found myself sitting with that question. What does powerful love actually look like in practice? And how do we live it out without becoming burned out or bitter? In this episode, I share a grounded framework for building rooted love, the kind that sustains you instead of draining you, and the specific order it has to move in to truly be strong. This episode is for you if you’ve ever: Felt overwhelmed by the state of the world and unsure how to respond Experienced grief, anger, or activation that’s affecting your home life Wanted to raise children who value dignity, justice, and compassion Struggled with resentment, burnout, or emotional overload Wondered how to stay grounded without becoming disengaged We’ll explore: Why love must be rooted before it can be powerful What it means to receive love before trying to give it How tending to your nervous system strengthens your impact The connection between a regulated home and a more just world What “out-of-order love” looks like, and why it leads to burnout How to build a loving home in heavy times without shrinking your world This conversation is not about ignoring injustice. It’s not about bypassing anger. And it’s not about retreating from the world. It’s about building something stronger than hate, starting within you, strengthening your home, and then moving outward with courage and steadiness. If you’ve been carrying heaviness lately, this episode is here to help you move through it with clarity, compassion, and strength. Let’s talk about how to build love that lasts. In this episode, we continue the conversation, but this time, we move forward. After naming the cultural, political, and theological stories shaping our homes in Part 1, this episode asks the next, unavoidable question: If going backward isn’t the answer… then what is? This episode is an exploration of greatness , not as nostalgia, performance, or control, but as something living, responsive, and deeply human. It looks at why the pull of “again” is so strong in heavy times, and why homes don’t actually become stronger by recreating the past. Instead, we begin to imagine a different kind of greatness, one rooted in care, shared power, adaptability, and wellbeing. This isn’t about doing more, fixing everything, or getting it “right.” It’s about choosing a way forward that actually supports the people who live in our homes now. This episode is for you if you’ve ever: Felt the pull of nostalgia and wondered why it’s so powerful Questioned whether “traditional” solutions actually serve real families Wanted to move forward without rejecting home, family, or faith Felt tired of rigid roles, hidden conflict, or silent sacrifice Longed for a definition of home that feels supportive instead of constricting In this episode, we’ll explore: Why the idea of “again” feels comforting, and what it often leaves out How nostalgia can become a coping mechanism in times of overwhelm Why going backward preserves hierarchy rather than creating safety What it really means to redefine greatness at home How holistic homemaking offers a forward-focused, life-giving path Why the work of home quietly shapes communities, culture, and the future This episode is an invitation, not to return to an idealized past, but to consciously create something better. Because we don’t make anything great again by going backward. We make home great by choosing a different kind of greatness, one that meets us right where we are. In this episode, we’re opening a tender and necessary conversation about what’s happening in the world, and how it quietly finds its way into our homes. What began as personal reflection turned into a deeper reckoning with the cultural, political, and theological stories shaping modern family life. From MAGA to Christian nationalism to the trad wife movement, this episode explores how these narratives don’t just live online or in headlines. They show up in our marriages, parenting, faith spaces, and everyday expectations of home. This isn’t a political rant. It’s a conversation about home, because home is where these stories are lived, embodied, and passed on. Through personal story, observation, and lived experience, we’ll look at how power, nostalgia, and faith can quietly reshape domestic life, and why it matters that we pay attention. This episode is for you if you’ve ever: Felt unsettled by what’s happening in the world, but unsure how it connects to home Noticed subtle shifts in conversations around marriage, motherhood, or faith Felt tension between your values and the cultural or religious messages around you Wondered why “going back” is being framed as the solution and felt unsure about that Wanted language for what you’re sensing, but haven’t known how to name it In this episode, we’ll explore: How political and cultural movements shape family life from the inside out What MAGA, Christian nationalism, and trad wife ideology have in common Why these stories resonate during times of fear, burnout, and instability How faith language can be used to justify hierarchy and control, often quietly Why the home is where these ideas do their deepest, most lasting work This is Part 1 of a two-part series. In this first episode, we focus on naming what’s happening and why it matters. In Part 2, we’ll move forward into what actually makes a home strong, supportive, and life-giving in the world we’re living in now. If you’ve been carrying questions, discomfort, or quiet concern about the intersection of politics, faith, and home, you’re not alone. This conversation is an invitation to slow down, notice the stories shaping us, and begin asking what kind of homes (and future) we truly want to create.
