Your Story, Your Medicine is a podcast about the stories that shape us. Taylor Jardine sits down with men from all walks of life to explore the experiences, challenges, relationships, failures and turning points that have made them who they are. These aren't conversations with people who have it all figured out. They're conversations with men who have lived, lost, learned, changed and kept going. Because you don't need to be famous, successful or an expert to have a story worth hearing. Sometimes the greatest wisdom comes from simply listening to another man speak honestly about his life. Your story might be the thing that helps someone else understand their own. This is an invitation to listen with your heart, take what resonates and leave what doesn't. This is Your Story, Your Medicine, curated by Taylor Jardine. www.plumbplanes.com @taylor_jardine

Welcome to Your Story Your Medicine. On today's episode we have Jack Donald: he finished school, completed his trade apprenticeship, bought first home at age 22, married by 26, father by 28. Spent the next 10 years looking after his family and building a life and during that time, he became the man everyone came to for help. But eventually Jack realised, he had to start putting himself first to be able to continue to help the ones he loved. This is your story Your medicine. It is a podcast that focuses on Men's Mental Health and the celebration that it is very normal and very healthy to ask for help. or at least a little bit of guidance in any direction that we're going to walk. If you are interested in the online Men Circle that has been mentioned in the podcast, you will be able to find all the details in the usual places.
No better way to step into this episode than by sharing with you, where it's actually going. When we started Your Story, Your Medicine, I honestly didn't know exactly what it would become. We have had some beautiful conversation, heard some incredible stories and I've been fortunate to sit across from people who are willing to share parts of themselves that aren't always easy to talk about. And I want to start by saying thank you, especially to all of the women. Who have shared their stories with us so far. Thank you, for your honesty, your vulnerability, your wisdom and for trusting us with your stories. These conversations have been an important part of this podcast, and I'm genuinely grateful for every one of you. But something has been becoming increasingly clear to me. The work I'm doing, the conversations I'm having, and the community that is growing around me is increasingly centred around men. Men's mental health, men's emotional lives, the relationships, identity, purpose, fatherhood, intimacy, pressure, success, and loneliness. The things that so many men experience internally, but don't always have a place to talk about it openly. So from this episode onwards, your story, your medicine is becoming a podcast focused specifically on men. And today's episode feels like the right place to begin. Because for the first time, you're actually going to hear my story in this way. My partner is sitting across from me, asking me the questions. As I think it's important that before I ask other men to tell their stories, I tell you more of mine. Because this isn't a podcast about having all the answers. It's about having the courage to be honest. Real conversations and what it means to be a man today. About all the things we carry, the things we hide, the relationships we're trying to navigate. This is the next chapter of your story, your medicine, and I'm really glad you're here for it. @taylor_jardine www.plumbplanes.com
Jess's childhood of rich cultural traditions and generational teachings was met with narrow-minded and closed off differences. She spoke two languages in her house as a child, and neither one was the mother tongue of the country she grew up in. Navigating the minefield of early adolescence and parental refugee assimilation, she focused on her education to increase future opportunities and chances. An ultimatum left her and her mum to fend for themselves and change directions in her educational pathway. Though she appreciated the opportunities the surroundings provided, she was destined for a life outside the 'golden cage' and a return to her cultural roots. This is the story of how seeing things for what they were brought more connection to her life and family than if she walked the road most travelled. If you would like to see more of Jess's world and what she built after leaving the 'golden cage', head to @chi.ai.nhi If this episode was an interesting listen for you, share it with someone who needs to hear it and follow/subscribe for more conversations like this every two weeks. for all other information about the work I do in the mental health field, head over to www.plumbplanes.com curated by @taylor_jardine
Ishka's unbridled childhood growing up in the iconic town of Byron Bay inspired him for a life of travel and adventures. From early day travels with his mum to multiple country solo explorations, he was always following his heart and call to adventure. To navigate it all, he used the inner guide of what he didn't want, more than what he did as evidence for answers. He went back to school later in life to study film and combined his first assignment with one of his first long form surf trip with a hometown mate, which ended up growing into producing some of the best surf films of the decade. Here is how one man's story of following his heart turns into gifts for the world. I'll be sharing my reflections after the podcast but until then, sit back and enjoy the journey of Ishka If you would like to see more of ishkas work go to @ishkaimagery and if you would like to understand more about the work I do in mental health head to @taylor_jardine if you enjoyed this podcast, be sure to rate it or share it with your friends
Melissa's early life of family summer vacations in France and a small town life in Switzerland set her up for an early and honest road. She learnt important life skills early at a steady reception job, before joining the army in preparation for the police force. Things were on a very stable track, but luckily Melissa had bigger plans. An incident in the army made things clear in her mind and she knew chasing her dream to become a singer was the only way forward. She got a taste of life on stage with her first band as she still danced between the two worlds until eventually she went all in and never looked back. This is a story of how one woman's gift for the world almost stayed hidden in a police uniform. I will be sharing my reflection after the podcast, but until then, sit back and enjoy the adventure of Melissa Bonny. @melissabonny for all other information about this podcast and the work I do in the mental health field head over to www.plumbplanes.com @Taylor_Jardine on Instagram or Plumb Planes Collective on YouTube.
Duggie's childhood movement opened him up to the world, and far beyond what he could have imagined. He got an early taste of freedom with Camp America, which lead him to doing vineyard seasons, year after year. He met his wife amongst the grapes, which blossomed into creating wine of their own and growing the business, one bottle at a time. Though a night sleeping in a swag under the stars, changed it all. it led to Duggie being poisoned and ultimately, cancer. He fought for his life, and now, he fights the system and people responsible for causing his and many others' unnecessary pain. A remarkable story of how out of the darkest time, there has grown a leader and a man on a global mission. I will be sharing my reflection after the podcast, but until then sit back and enjoy the triumpht story of Duggie. @stokewines_au
Bhagyashree's early childhood, Indian village life, was nurtured by community, elders and ancient wisdom. She grew up on a foundation of values and a strong moral compass, which guided her toward higher education and ultimately a deep spiritual path. receiving scholarships, living away from home, traveling the world all the while holding onto the dream of an inward journey. A twist of fate brought her to an ashram in Rishikesh, but it was a saint at the river Ganga that opened the door to her remembering. this is one of the most beautiful stories I've had the pleasure of listening to, and for anyone looking for the deeper answers this one is for you. Matt's indigenous roots and growing up in the country, gave him a deep appreciation and connection to the land. From leaving home at 12 to becoming a professional footballer, Matt had the skills but it was the spotlight that brought out his wild side. The decision was made for him and his contract was terminated. Through accountability and some extra time in New Zealand he got himself back on track. Matt eventually changed career lanes and spent the next number of years supporting young Aboriginal boys, both on the East Coast and up in the Kimberley. During this time up North he proved himself worthy to secure a spot on the TV show "Alone" which ultimately confirmed what was most important in his life. his short return to footy landed him not only in hospital, but with a Vertebra being surgically removed and a cancer diagnosis. Matt's story is a testament to how one man's strength can bring you back from a place most couldn't even comprehend. From a child standing out in a small Belgian town, to stepping onto stages around the world. Marieke's life has reflected both her introvert and performer spirit. She nurtured her gifts early with structure and discipline, but the cracks started to appear when she found herself crossing lines she never thought she'd cross. From overcoming addiction, domestic violence and fighting for justice in a court case lasting 4 years. She found strength in removing the inner victim and becoming the sovereign of her own destiny. This is a powerful story of survival and return. Ed's contrasting childhood led him on a seesaw of deconstructed life adventures. From straight A's to losing his brother and almost himself to drugs. Ed's life views were challenged by combining psychotherapy and psychedelics opening, not only himself, but a world of possibilities. From 6 years in China before hitting a personal rock bottom to becoming fluent in the language and then being the interpreter for the British embassy. Though impressive, his climb back to the top was met with crippling social anxiety and medication. A change of heart moved him from a government desk job to lucrative remote online work, where he traded addressing diplomats in conference halls for loose getaways in Vegas and Champagne at the front of the plane. At this point, the only thing slowing Ed down was 3.5 years in a Japanese monastery. This story has it all, as it showcases the true example of human introspection and what can be achieved and overcome because of it. The intention behind this podcast is to honour truths and hold space, while guests can authentically share their story and connect to the personal medicines within them. Like the waves in the ocean, no journey is the same. My life of travelling has taught me, that everyone has a story, if you take the time to listen. This is exactly what I will share with you, a podcast focusing on the guests and not myself as a host. The recordings are unedited and genuine conversations about the lives, that have been lived.Highlighting wisdoms within those teachings. Variety is the spice of life and this will be reflected in the guests that come on. While living in a remote aboriginal community, an elder once said: "Don't reject me, nor accept me. Just hold me." Listen with your heart, hold what feels true and leave, what doesn't resonate. This is "Your Story Your Medicine" curated by Taylor Jardine. @plumb_planes_collective www.plumbplanes.com
