In this episode, I share one of the hardest and most personal experiences of my life: watching my dad battle cancer for 15 years and eventually having to say goodbye. Shannon and I talk about cancer, grief, caregiving, family, and what faith looks like when prayers are not answered the way we hoped. I reflect on the strength of my father, the quiet sacrifice of my mother as his caregiver, and my greatest struggle with faith and forgiving God.

Long before YouTube, cookbooks, and the chuck wagon, I took a job in New Mexico’s Gila Wilderness guiding elk hunters and serving as the camp cook. The truth is, I did not know much about outdoor cooking when I started, but necessity is a great teacher. I never wanted to be on TV. I just wanted to cook for cowboys. But one phone call, while on a ranch, changed all of that. This is how I went from a cowboy ranch cook, to cooking on national TV.
