We’re going behind the scenes of our time on NBC’s Food Fighters. Kent relives two intense cooking battles from Season 1—from turning a chaotic raspberry soufflé challenge into a cowboy masterpiece to facing a food blogger over chorizo tacos. We share untold stories from the set, to the contestants, and why winning a television cooking competition doesn’t always feel like a victory. Thank you to our sponsors! When a brutal winter storm puts a herd of cattle at risk, I faced a choice: turn back or keep going into dangerous conditions because something living is depending on him. In this true ranch story, we explore winter cattle feeding, fear and survival, hard-earned ranch knowledge, and the cowboy code that teaches responsibility when no one is watching. It’s a conversation about courage versus recklessness, caring for livestock, and faith under pressure. Thank you to our sponsors! Thank you, OneSkin! Thank you to our sponsor, OneSkin! Why are handwritten letters, vinyl records, film cameras, flip phones, and other old-fashioned traditions making a comeback in our digital world? Inspired by the love letters and cards Kent has written Shannon over the years, this episode explores the growing analog revival, digital burnout, dying traditions, and the value of slowing down. Kent and Shannon discuss why a handwritten message carries more weight than a text, what men often leave unsaid, and what are the values and family traditions that are still worth preserving. It’s an honest conversation about love, legacy, human connection, and what we lost when everything became faster and more convenient.
Why are some of the toughest, most practical people also deeply superstitious? In this episode, we explore the strange cowboy superstitions and traditions that survived the Old West, from never placing a cowboy hat on a bed to death omens, haunted cattle trails, animal signs, weather lore and unusual rodeo rituals. We also uncover the legend of a famous Texas stampede and if it’s ghosts still wander the plains. Thank you to our sponsors! Thank you to Poncho! Buckles are more than something a cowboy wears, they come with stories! We’re sharing the funny, frustrating, and meaningful stories behind the buckles we’ve won, from Kent’s first bull-riding buckle at 11 years old to the one he should have won and Shannon’s first chuck wagon competition buckle. Cowboy coffee has always been about more than what’s in the cup. We’re digging into the history of cowboy coffee, what people get wrong about making it, and why coffee was such an important part of life around the chuck wagon. We also look back at the simple cowboy coffee video that reached more than 6.7 million people and became an unexpected part of our story. From cowboys and Arbuckles’ coffee to today’s coffee-shop culture, why do generations keep gathering around a cup of coffee? And what does the phrase “let’s have coffee” really mean?
Have we forgotten how to fix things—or have we forgotten how to figure things out? Shannon and I talk about the practical skills that used to be passed down from generation to generation, from changing a flat tire and starting a fire to fixing whatever broke at the chuck wagon. But this conversation goes beyond practical know-how. We talk about problem-solving, self-reliance, faith, marriage, attitude, and what to do when the thing that needs fixing is something in your own life. Sometimes you don’t need to know the answer—you just need to be willing to figure it out.
In this episode, I share one of the hardest and most personal experiences of my life: watching my dad battle cancer for 15 years and eventually having to say goodbye. Shannon and I talk about cancer, grief, caregiving, family, and what faith looks like when prayers are not answered the way we hoped. I reflect on the strength of my father, the quiet sacrifice of my mother as his caregiver, and my greatest struggle with faith and forgiving God.
What does it really take to build the Cowboy Kent Rollins brand? It wasn't one viral video or one lucky break. In this episode of Cowboy Coffee Hour, Kent and Shannon share the real story behind more than 15 years of hard work, from cooking on working ranches and competing on the Food Network to growing a community of over 7 million followers. We talk about turning down reality TV, filming with an iPhone, the biggest mistakes we made, and why consistency, faith, and authenticity mattered more than chasing trends. If you've ever wondered what happens behind the scenes of Cowboy Cooking, this is the conversation you've been waiting for.
In this episode, I recap my appearance on Food Network's Cutthroat Kitchen (season 14, episode 5: "The Good, the Hash and the Ugly"), hosted by Alton Brown. I cook through three rounds — hash, steak, cornbread dessert — against sabotages like a bucking chuckwagon, a spur-wielding mannequin, ingredients dunked in beer, swinging saloon doors, and a horseshoe toss, including hobbling a runaway horse costume mid-cook. Find out if I made it out with my money — or my dignity! In this episode we're digging into the disease history books forgot — the plague that quietly reshaped frontier life, drove thousands to chase the Western sky, and left its mark on American cowboy culture forever. Tuberculosis, the world's most deadliest disease, has many interesting western connections, including how it helped create the cowboy hat, how it influenced where people settled and even what they ate! We're sharing some wild camp stories from years of cooking at the chuck wagon — and the critters that showed up uninvited. From raccoons raiding the camp kitchen and snakes slithering too close to the fire, these are the real wildlife run-ins that happen when you cook outdoors in the backcountry. And the wildest critter of all? That one had two legs — and his name is Jeff Goldblum. Sign up and get 10% off at https://BetterHelp.com/COWBOY . Before I was feeding cowboys, I was riding bulls. For 25 years, I chased rodeos across the West — and this week I'm telling the full story. From my brother Randy's training methods, to my first calf roping. And then the night a bull put both front feet on my chest and I thought that was it. The most dangerous bull I ever drew. Long before YouTube, cookbooks, and the chuck wagon, I took a job in New Mexico’s Gila Wilderness guiding elk hunters and serving as the camp cook. The truth is, I did not know much about outdoor cooking when I started, but necessity is a great teacher. Deep in the backcountry, cooking over an open fire for hungry hunters every day, I learned through trial and error what worked and what did not. Looking back, that trip changed the course of my life. In this episode, we open up for the first time about the faith it takes to face total loss — and what we discovered in the ashes. From the little fires we all walk through in life every day, to being baptized by fire and coming out refined on the other side, we're sharing the stories of holiding on when there's nothing left to hold.
