A conversation about cars, trucks, tugs and other machines of transport that flows like an ADHD fever dream, hosted by Hoonigan co-founder and 321 Action Action director Brian Scotto. Enjoy, it’s gonna be a bizarre ride.
Listen on Apple PodcastsWhoa, dude! If it isn’t Off-Road Spicoli: the urban legend behind Urban Assault, king of the dirt and crown prince of the waves – Blake Wilkey ! Arriving from his native San Diego with a warm smile and a glint in his eye, you just know this mystical rad-man has wild stories to relate. From his earliest days on the water, to his mechanical upbringing in the dirt, he found his way to mythic status when he turned his hand to building bugs (some of them, you may just have heard before!). Before long, that mischievous gleam in his eye landed upon his own city, and when Urban Assault exploded across the internet in 2016, his legend was as cemented as perhaps the most radical (..ok, nefarious) character in the automotive space. Now, he’s here to tell the full tale as well as his other antics, including the NORRA, Baja, his own brand Shreddy Lyfe and his latest diabolical creation…. the death boat? So! Turn on, tune in and drop out to this freestylin’, tube-wave-ridin’ conversation. Very Vehicular welcomes RJ de Vera ! Each season we like to bring on a guest from inside the automotive industry whose position and experience helps us better understand the issues facing car culture, and while RJ is more than qualified in that regard, there’s more that he’s done… much more! He was a foundational part of the import scene in the 90s, working as a writer and photographer for Super Street before ascending to Editor at Large. He was the go-to guy on the scene consulting for a plethora of OEMs and brands looking to break off a little piece of the magic for themselves. He even had a role in a notable movie franchise - word to the wise is he’s still collecting residual checks for his on-screen role to this day. Trading the underground for a storied chapter in the corporate world (twelve years at 3M / Meguiars no less), he’s now taken his rightful place atop the mountain as Vice President of Marketing at SEMA. Of most interest to us though? He’s a fully paid-up, card-carrying car nerd, with extraordinary stories and an insight into car culture you won’t want to miss. It’s the Battle of the Generations on Very Vehicular this week, as our three guests debate their views on car culture. Representing Gen X is your host, Scotto . In the tastefully grey (or is it green these days?) Millennial corner, it’s returning friend of the pod, Ron Zaras , and lastly, hoisting the flag for all of Gen Z, we’ve got newcomer Chaz Warren ( @ChazzyDawg ). Chazzy made his name in the world of film photography, where his visceral style found viral success on Instagram, his camera acting as a passport to a world of cars he’d only dreamed of being able to approach. Now, alongside working for big names in the industry, he’s set his sights on creating his own culture of photo-forward meets, where the old rules don’t apply, as he brings community to legions of young car worshippers, whether they’re toting analog or digital machinery. So whether you’re prehistoric; or barely old enough to sneak out of the house unhindered by your parents tracking you on Life360, find out what this unusual council makes of it all. We’re joined this week by Jean Pierre Kraemer , of JP Performance, undoubtedly the biggest automotive YouTuber in Germany, and one of the most successful creators on the planet. He’s a TV star and celebrity, builder of hundreds of builds from the classic, to the electrified ultramodern and everything in between. Not just content to produce content (ha) he owns and runs no fewer than sixteen businesses, and his complex in his native Dortmund is droolworthy. There’s the workshop itself, a burger bar, a theater-style dyno and down the block, his very own Pace Car Museum, housing his own creations alongside a staggering assortment of motorsport and car culture’s most significant metal. If all this doesn’t leave you breathless to find out how he did it, what’s next and what he thinks of the US? Well there’s no hope for you – you’ll just have to listen! Firing Order is BACK for Season 4 of Very Vehicular , and we’re bringing you an absolute heater of a first episode with veteran motoring journalist and podcaster Matt Farah (The Smoking Tire) as well as Our Cousin Vinny: Vin Anatra . If you’re new around here, the aim of the show is simple: to form a definite ranking (which definitely isn’t just the opinions of whichever three lovable idiots are on that particular week), and this week it’s the most overhyped hero cars, that you wish you’d never met! Our hosts have decades and decades (and dec—) of seat time between them across a plethora of automotive heroes: from the pedestrian (ha) to the decidedly exotic! Rolling up to the studio in a minty white V8 Vantage, with the all-time longest Very Vehicular episode record firmly in his sights, TJ hasn’t come to play, he’s here to win! In a departure from form, Scotto has the mic turned around on him as TJ unleashes his pent-up questions in desperate need of answers. This reverse interview has it all: origin stories, the dawn of YouTube, the art of growing a business (and what happens when you lose one!), love, loss and identity, even movies: it’s practical therapy, people! Mike Burroughs is back… and he’s got some gripes! If you didn’t already know him from StanceWorks ; or indeed for his legendary F40 and K-swapped 308 projects, you may remember Mike as one of our earliest guests alongside Ferrari expert Victoria Bruno . It seems only right to bring him back on and throw him the mic - he’s got some things to say! (Oh, and stop asking him when the F40 project will be done!). Apart from *cough* that project… Mike has plenty of other fascinating projects, and he even gives us a sneak peek of what’s in the pipeline. Beyond the metal, Scotto and Mike get borderline philosophical on this one, it’s a ripper. Enjoy! Scotto gets the deep backstory on the game-changing FWD drag cars that shattered records (first into the 9s!) and how those cars came to be. It’s a tale stranger than fiction! We find out all about Steph’s move into drifting - again, innovating, taking names and shaking things up. It’s time for a change up and after exploring several Top 5 lists, we thought it was high time to settle the WORST modding trends of the last decade. Who better to find the definitive ranking than Zack Klapman of The Smoking Tire and returning deviant and partner in mischief Mister Zachary (Zac Mertens). This episode may hold the record for the most censorship beeps ever featured on the show in its entire run to date (and yes.. Firing Order is BACK for its first outing in season 3 and this week we’ve got Chris Stewart , co-founder of GRIDLIFE and all-round track sensei RonCar , aka Ron Zaras, founder of AntiLag here to join Scotto in debating the Top Five Budget Track Day Cars ! Don’t worry, as you’ve come to love and expect: there are tangents-a-plenty and while an objective ranking (clearly, not the work of “three idiots”) may eventually be reached, they take their sweet time battling it out on their way there. This week we’ve got something a little different for you. 4/3 Day, in memory of Ken Block , is around the corner, so Scotto decided to dedicate this solo episode to sharing some personal stories and memories of Ken. It’s also a little taster of what’s coming up on 4/3 day itself. In case you hadn’t heard about it yet, there will be a special 4/3 day event on YouTube from Block House Racing HQ, where Scotto and other familiar faces will be hosting a FOUR-AND-A-HALF HOURS fundraising stream-a-thon! 9am PT on Friday, April 3rd - don’t miss it! There will be live action, great stories and a great collection of guests to both celebrate Ken’s memory and to support the fantastic work of 43 Institute. Meanwhile, catch some personal reminiscences here from Scotto to get a little taste of what’s to come, and as ever - enjoy. @BlockHouseRacing @BrianScotto @321ActionAction Partners: Vyper Industrial FCP Euro Heatwave Visual Wera Tools Producer : Nick Rutter @nickrutterarts Music : SlikSound Patreon : https://patreon.com/u37266647 https://bio.site/321actionaction podcasts@321actionaction.com 00:00 - Welcome & Introduction 01:32 - Firing Up Old Hard Drives 01:59 - Origin of 43 Stories 03:18 - Ken Really F**king Hated Dressing Up 09:39 - Taking Goodwood By Storm - Those Pesky, Lovable Brits! 12:31 - Thou Shalt Hoon 16:09 - First Hoonigan Stickers 17:25 - Rally GB Hangover Meeting 20:46 - The Goodwood Gymkhana That Never Was 30:16 - Leaving Zero to 60, A Whole New Chapter 31:09 - Hoonigan Takes Shape 39:05 - M Sport First Test 42:45 - Greystoke, Shitterton, Cocking, Twatt & Diss 44:17 - Why WRC Ended 52:03 - Legacy 53:55 - 4/3 Day Stream - Fri Apr 3 55:09 - Channel Plans Ahead 56:56 - New Shows In Development

They say the road to hell is paved with good intentions, and while we promise we tried to keep this show on the rails and under two hours, clearly we can’t help ourselves, you lucky buggers! Another highly-requested guest this week on VERY VEHICULAR , we’re happy to welcome Jon Chase ! You probably know him from his Hoonigan days as a designer and the creative force behind much of the merchandise but there are depths to Jon that are revealed in this highly flowing and tangential conversation. If it’s one of those never-ending ADHD fever dreams you seek, you won’t be disappointed – you’ve been warned! It’s a masterpiece of the genre, even by Scotto’s standards. The guys manage to cover everything from seeking tangible offline experiences; to the scourge of AI (particularly choice language is used!) and of course, it would be remiss not to tell some never-heard war stories from the days of Power Tour. I’d say this episode has it all but they barely even got started: we’ll have to bring Jon back for part two! Enjoy. Scotto’s been threatening it for a good while.. and it’s FINALLY HERE! Presenting the first ever episode of this brand new show: FIRING ORDER! The concept is simple: Scotto and returning friends Vin Anatra and Ron Zaras fight it out to make the definitive (definitely not subjective!) list of the Top 5 Driver’s Cars, Post 2000. They’ve each done their homework and brought a list of five cars. However! Only two cars from each list can move forward to the final round. The group has to argue.. I mean – decide! – which cars make the cut and enter the final 6. Finally, the group has to choose together which car gets cut, then the list is ranked to give the definitive Top Five! Stay tuned to the end for the big reveal! This week VERY VEHICULAR welcomes JR Hildebrand : Race Driver and Veteran of THAT Indy 500 Crash back in 2011. Scotto and JR get philosophical as they break down the maybes and what-ifs they’ve each encountered through the many forks in life’s road. Mainly though, they’re here to figure out the answer to motorsports’ entertainment problem. Drawing from his deep well of experience behind the wheel, JR’s manifesto for setting racing ‘off’ rather than on the straight and narrow is compelling. Scotto, as ever, brings both a viewer’s and a director’s eye to bear on the problem at hand, because at the end of the day, don’t we all deserve to be entertained?
