Helen was married for 21 years. Nine months ago she found out about the affair and she left. Everyone told her she was doing the right thing and nobody argued. What she has now is a phone she checks too often and a friend called Denise who keeps telling her things she hasn't asked to know. He isn't at the house. He isn't working. He's on somebody's sofa twenty minutes away. And Helen lies awake at four in the morning wondering whether he's registered with a doctor, whether the car is taxed, whether his mother got a card in May. She has the cleanest permission anyone has ever been given to feel nothing at all, and she still can't stop. We talk about what that actually is, because Helen is right that it isn't love and it isn't guilt. It's the responsibility that quietly accumulates over twenty years, until you find out you weren't two adults running a house. You were running it and he was living in it. Then some of the unsent messages. The hoovering one. The two people who both froze. The woman who came home from karaoke and wished it had been him. And one that made Emma cheer. Season 4 continues with Episode 2, an introduction to Bhavna Radia. Bhavna spent years as a divorce lawyer before moving into coaching, and she talks to us about where the early pull towards law came from, what happened when she went through her own divorce, and how she now works with women using both sides of that: the professional training and the lived experience of it. She also explains Mesher orders, which come up constantly and are understood by almost nobody until they're sitting in front of one. A Mesher order lets the family home stay unsold after a divorce, usually until the youngest child finishes education or turns eighteen, at which point it's sold and the proceeds split. It sounds like a solution and for some families it is, but Bhavna is clear about what it costs the person who stays in the house, and why it's worth understanding properly before agreeing to one. Then it's on to Unsent, the new thing Harry has been building. It's a place to send the message you wrote and never sent, the paragraph that sat in your drafts at two in the morning and stayed there. You write it, you send it to us, and it goes somewhere rather than nowhere. It's at dadhugsforyoursoul.com/unsent As we always say, if you're having relationship problems, going through a relationship breakup or experiencing heartbreak, then know this: we are with you. Because you can and will survive, heal and thrive. Everyone who appears on our podcast can take positive steps forward, and so can you. Find Bhavna on Instagram at @bhavna.radia . Did you miss us? Or didn’t you notice we’d been gone? Well, nevermind because we are back! We are kicking off season 4 with an interesting letter from Jenny who has been dipping her toe into dating and finding it’s stirring up more than just passion…. Jenny’s concerns are common, but maybe not openly discussed. We are here to blow the lid off the idea that everything must be perfect, and that your past should be completely forgotten. In the second half of the podcast, we are delighted to be chatting to the wonderful Candida Crewe about her new novel, Disapproval, and how it was shaped in part by her own romantic experience with avoidant attachment and betrayal. You can find Disapproval on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Disapproval-Candida-Crewe/dp/1068527366 You can also ask your local bookshop to order you a copy. Back to the familiar format of a letter from a listener - and this one is another all to common theme. This week, we hear from Helen. Helen's story has a bit of everything: financial isolation, the slow unravelling of a long marriage, infidelity, divorce, and a turn none of us saw coming. It's a story about giving yourself entirely to a life and a person, and discovering how little of it was ever really yours. About the particular cruelty of being deceived by someone whose kindness you fell for. And about what happens when the life you thought you were grieving takes one final, shocking turn. But more than any of that, it's a story about meeting yourself again. About a woman who lost almost everything she thought defined her, and found, on the other side of it, something quieter and steadier and entirely her own. If you're rebuilding from a place you never expected to be, this one's for you. As we always say, if you're having relationship problems, going through a relationship breakup or experiencing heartbreak, then know this: we are with you. Because you can and will survive, heal and thrive. Everyone who appears on our podcast can take positive steps forward, and so can you. Today we go back to basics with Harry and ask him some of the most common questions we hear a lot: - How do you know so much about mid-life women and how did you get to the point of speaking on topics that are relevant to them - What is Anxious Attachment, how do we become anxiously attached and is it changeable? - Why go No Contact - does it really work? - Somatic work: how can this help in heartbreak? When you are as visible as fresh-from-the-BBC Harry is, people who you used to know are going to find you.... This week, Emma is delighted at Harry's momentary discomfort when an old flame gets in touch! As in all things break-up based, there's a lot to untangle and lots of questions to be answered. After we read and discuss Victoria's letter, it's quick fire questions and there's some really good ones in there! Don't forget to comment with yours. Today we have a really interesting letter - Rob is at a point in his relationship that we don't usually get to see: he's at a decision point. His marriage is stable and he loves his wife but he feels that the spark has gone and he is experiencing some of that electricity with a work colleague. At this moment it's all in his head but he is aware that he's about to step into a world of pain if he makes the wrong choice. Can he redirect that focus and choose his marriage, wholeheartedly and forever, or is the pull of a fresh and exciting new relationship too strong. Harry gives his straight talking and practical advice - just as Rob asked! We've also got some listener/follower questions and if they resonate with you, Harry's responses may give you a little insight into why you feel, react or ruminate in the ways that you do. As we always say, if you're having relationship problems, going through a relationship breakup or experiencing heartbreak, then know this: we are with you. We're back! Back to the familiar format of a letter from a listener - and this one is such a common theme: why do we give sympathy and care to those who hurt us the most! Anisha wrote in with details of a break up we all can understand: her husband left her for a woman he met at work. She dealt with the fallout from this and helped her three children come to terms with their new life, steering them through the upset and hurt. She watched as he created a new family with his new partner. Then when it fell apart, he reached to her for support and.......well, listen to find out! It's fascinating to explore why we feel able to feel compassion for those who have hurt us the most, to try to understand behaviour that leads to betrayal and ultimately, the consequences of not being emotionally strong when life calls for it. As we always say, if you're having relationship problems, going through a relationship breakup or experiencing heartbreak, then know this: we are with you. Because you can and will survive, heal and thrive. Everyone who appears on our podcast can take positive steps forward, and so can you. Today we are chatting to the brilliant Lucy Meggeson. Through her podcast, membership, book, and content, Lucy challenges outdated narratives about singlehood, showing women that they don’t need a partner to live fully, passionately, and joyfully. You can see why Harry was so keen to get her on our podcast! You can find Lucy at https://www.lucymeggeson.com/ and also on Instagram @thrivesolowithlucymeggeson There are so many themes that we have ALL heard "have you met anyone yet?" "are you going to start a family?" - painful, intrusive, unnecessary! We hear personal examples of this and discuss the impact that being single, by choice or not, has on friendships, our outlook on life and our mindset. As we always say, if you're having relationship problems, going through a relationship breakup or experiencing heartbreak, then know this: we are with you. Lisa's Story — A No Contact Update That Will Give You Hope Eight months ago, Lisa wrote to Harry at one of the lowest points of her life — 53 years old, 30 years with her partner and suddenly it was all gone. She wasn't sleeping, she couldn't stop checking his social media, and she had no idea who she was anymore. This week we revisit Lisa's story; as one of the earliest users of the No Contact Pack we hear just how far she has come. Because the update she sent in? It made Emma cry (of course it did) and Harry? Well he's not surprised one bit - he always knew it would work for her! Harry answers the big questions Lisa's story raises — why do we torture ourselves going over the past, why is the phone so hard to put down, and how do you rediscover who you are after decades of being half of a couple? Oh and can you spot the enormous - can we pretend it was deliberate - mistake? One of us (*coughs* Emma *coughs*) can't count...... As we always say, if you're having relationship problems, going through a relationship breakup or experiencing heartbreak, then know this: we are with you. Because you can and will survive, heal and thrive. Everyone who appears on our podcast can take positive steps forward, and so can you. Where you left them - More Q&A & Meeting Brittney Emley We LOVED the Q&A last week and it seems you did too! This week we're going to finish that list and we also have a special guest: the wonderful, in Harry's words, "Zen Queen", Brittney Emley. Brittney provides all our incredible somatic work across the platforms and packs and will be joining us on the Reset Retreat in May. You can find more about Brittney at her website here: https://www.brittneyemley.com/ and https://www.lunarlinkswellbeing.com/ How do I move on after divorce? What do I do when my partner asks for space? Is it too late to start again? These are just some of the HUGE questions which Harry answers - join us to listen to the advice and see if any resonate with you. Where you left them - the Queasy Q&A This week, as Emma is unwell, we've taken the pressure off her with a 'listener Q&A' session instead of a story - from Moving on, to finding your self-worth - we cover a lot in this episode and still save some questions for next time. As we always say, if you’re having relationship problems, going through a relationship breakup or experiencing heartbreak, then know this: we are with you. When relationships end, there's often a lot more than feelings at stake. For many partners, women especially, there's a risk of being left in a financially precarious positition. This story, sent in by listener Sally, takes us through that journey from pure trust and love to betrayal - and then into the details of what the fallout can mean not just emotionally, but financially. She talks of her wonderful supportive friend and we find out if it is too late to recover her financial independence, as we hear from her at the beginning of that journey It's raw, frightening and sadly all too common. The message here is that no matter how perfect everything is, maintain as much financial independence as you can - it's not unromantic, it's vital to your future security, whether things go south or not. Then it’s on to questions of the week. “How Do You Know When It’s Really Over?” “How Do You Start Again After a Breakup in Midlife?” As we always say, if you’re having relationship problems, going through a relationship breakup or experiencing heartbreak, then know this: we are with you. This one comes with a trigger warning - Narcissistic Abuse In this rather brutal episode, we unpack a story about a narcissist, a dog, and the subtle ways manipulation can infiltrate everyday life. Using humor, honesty, and insight, we explore how to spot controlling behavior, protect your boundaries, and reclaim your sense of agency — all while keeping your sanity intact. If you’ve ever questioned someone’s motives or felt drained by a relationship, this episode is your guide to understanding the red flags and trusting your instincts again. Then it’s on to questions of the week. I can't stop thinking about them with someone else - what can I do to stop? How do you Survive Valentine's Day after 15 years together? This is an episode that many of you will relate to. A story on the intersection of menopause and manosphere, and more generally the impact of menopause on relationships. It’s raw and real, and the issues raised had Emma emotional - these issues are very familiar for so many people - we’re going to cover menopause and it’s effect on relationships on the channel and in work Harry is doing this Spring We discuss the shock of small reveals - how a sentence uttered over dinner, amongst friends can shake your understanding of how well you know your partner of decades. The loss of the person you originally met - and how to find them again. The situation for Helen is recoverable, we believe. It’s tough and it will take softening on both sides….and no small amount of forgiveness and understanding. Her partner’s awareness that something needs to change, that something has been lost, is a good place to begin the repair if they want to move forward together. Then it’s on to questions of the week. How do you deal with the guilt of setting boundaries? How do you stick with the healing process when you keep seeing yourself messing* it up (they may have used another word) As we always say, if you’re having relationship problems, going through a relationship breakup or experiencing heartbreak, then know this: we are with you. In this rather saucy episode (you have been warned), we read Ariel’s story - it brings so many twists and turns you might even call it kinky, It’s a story of hidden lives, secrets and lies. Betrayal on an almost industrial scale, and an entire infrastructure of deception and subterfuge. We talk about the awful pain of discovering two lives lived not in parallel, but awfully, painfully differently - and how to heal from a betrayal that runs deep and broad throughout a long, apparently healthy marriage. The story is in two parts - with a quick intermission while we gather our faculties and get our breath back from the shock of the revelations in part 1. There’s light here too though. Ariel is in touch with the show and is making significant and impressive progress, facing the pain this awful period of her life has unloaded upon her, It won’t be easy, it won’t be quick - and there won’t be a complete erasure of these traumatic events. But life will be better than before, because it will be lived in her truth and authenticity without distraction or deceit. Then it’s on to questions of the week. What do you think is the most important thing to look for in a partner - what questions should you ask yourself when going into a relationship with a guy. My partner cheated on me - how do i get the betrayal out of my head, it's consuming me? As we always say, if you’re having relationship problems, going through a relationship breakup or experiencing heartbreak, then know this: we are with you. Because you can and will survive, heal and thrive. Everyone who appears on our podcast can take positive steps forward, and so can you. In this episode, we are excited to be discussing an actual voice note! So modern! Our contributor is Mark, who shares his struggles with a tumultuous relationship marked by love bombing, sudden breakups, and the lingering pain of unresolved feelings. We discuss the inevitable emotional dysregulation that these kinds of chaotic relationships cause and how to work your way through to peace. In the second part of the episode, we discuss the Tool of the Week, which this week is taken from the upcoming Intentional Dating pack. The excitingly titled “Micro-Moments Grounding Card” is designed to be a screenshot-able prompt to ground you when emotions are running away with you in a dating situation! Emma is going to give this a go and maybe tweak it to suit any one of a million situations in the week where her emotions run away with her! She’ll report back across our social channels, so look out for that. Finally, we move on to the quick-fire questions, and this week they are: · Why do we crave the person who hurt us the most? · How do I know if I'm “just” hurt or actually traumatised? · Do I have to forgive my ex to move on and properly heal? As we always say, if you’re having relationship problems, going through a relationship breakup or experiencing heartbreak, then know this: we are with you. Because you can and will survive, heal and thrive. Everyone who appears on our podcast can take positive steps forward, and so can you.
