Selichot: New Apologies

As we prepare for Yom Kippur, we are reminded of the relentless power of the evil inclination, silenced only at death. In this piyyut said whenever selichot are recited we ask G-d to answer our prayers just as he answered the prayers of our Biblical ancestors from Avraham to Mordechai and Esther. In this anti-Christian polemic, we ask G-d to punish those who persecuted us for refusing to replace our G-d with the god of the one who was crucified.
