It's not the nausea people find hardest. It's the hair. A systematic review published in April 2026 pulled together twenty-four studies and found hair loss occurred at six cases per thousand patient-years on GLP-1 medication, against zero point eight on placebo. More than a three-fold increase. And when you're eating a fraction of what you used to, the nutrients have to come from somewhere: one study last year found 98.6% of people on these medications were below the recommended intake of vitamin D alone. In this episode I'm joined by Nyrah Saleem, a clinical pharmacist and independent prescriber, and an award-winning health creator who shares evidence-based advice on skincare, hair health and nutrition with over half a million followers. She's the founder of Nyra Nutrition, a pharmacist-formulated supplement brand. We talk about what's actually happening when your hair starts shedding and whether it's the drug or the weight loss, how long it really takes to come back, whether anything genuinely speeds that up, the nutrient deficiencies worth worrying about, and which supplements are worth your money and which are expensive gimmicks. She also covers how to read a supplement label properly, what interactions to watch for alongside these medications, and the things people are too embarrassed to ask a pharmacist. 🎙 Hosted by: Marc McKee 📍 Featuring: Nyrah Saleem MPharm 🔗 Connect with Nyrah 📸 Instagram: @healthwithnyrah 📲 TikTok: @healthwithnyrah 📺 YouTube: @Healthwithnyrah 🔗 Nyra Nutrition: https://www.nyranutrition.co.uk 🔗 Linktree: linktr.ee/nyrahsaleem 🔗 Connect with Marc 📲 TikTok: @my.journey.with.marc 📸 Instagram: @my.journey.with.marc 📺 YouTube: @myjourneywithmarc 🎧 Podcast IG: @this.is.my.journey.podcast 🎧 New episodes every Tuesday at 6am. A billion people worldwide are living with obesity. The medications finally work. And fewer than one in ten of the people who could benefit will get them by 2030. In this episode I'm joined by Dr Fatima Cody Stanford, obesity medicine physician-scientist at Massachusetts General Hospital and Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School. One of the first fellowship-trained obesity medicine physicians in the world, she has published over 300 peer-reviewed papers, sat on the 2025 US Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee, and contributed to the Lancet Commission that redefined clinical obesity. Many of you will know her from Oprah's weight-loss special. We talk about what's coming next: the triple agonist retatrutide, which produced average weight loss of over 28% in trial results presented in June, with two thirds of people on the top dose finishing no longer clinically obese. We also cover why almost nobody will be able to get it, the black market already selling it, why people with type 2 diabetes lose less weight on these drugs, and the body dysmorphia that doesn't disappear when the weight does. 🎙 Hosted by: Marc McKe 📍 Featuring: Dr Fatima Cody Stanford, Massachusetts General Hospital & Harvard Medical School Follow Dr Stanford: Instagram: @askdrfatima Website: askdrfatima.com 🔗 Connect with Marc 📲 TikTok: @my.journey.with.marc 📸 Instagram: @my.journey.with.marc 📺 YouTube: @myjourneywithmarc 🎧 Podcast IG: @this.is.my.journey.podcast 🎧 New episodes every Tuesday at 6am. Three quarters of people in the semaglutide trials had a gastrointestinal side effect. Only four per cent of UK adults were eating enough fibre before any of this started. So we've put millions of people on a medication that slows the gut down, in a country that was already barely eating any fibre, and then wondered why everyone feels awful. In this episode I'm joined by Dr Karan Rajan, an NHS surgeon, university clinical lecturer and one of the most-followed health educators in the world, with well over ten million people following him for his myth-busting videos. He's the author of the number one Sunday Times bestseller This Book May Save Your Life and of This Is Vital Information, host of the podcast Dr Karan Explores, founder of LOAM Science, and Chief of Science at gut health company Throne Science. We talk about what these medications are actually doing in your gut and why the side effects are so varied, which of them you can do something about and which you simply have to ride out, why fibre matters far more than anyone told you, the single biggest piece of GLP-1 misinformation currently circulating, and the moral undertone that says taking these drugs is somehow cheating. 🔗 Connect with Dr Karan Rajan 📸 Instagram: @drkaranrajan 📲 TikTok: @dr.karanr 📺 YouTube: @DrKaranRajan 🔗 Website: https://www.drkaranrajan.com/ 🎧 Podcast: Dr Karan Explores – https://www.drkaranrajan.com/podcast LOAM Science 📸 Instagram: @loamscience 📲 TikTok: @loamscience 🔗 Website: https://loamscience.com Use JOURNEY15 for 15% off. 🔗 Connect with Marc 📲 TikTok: @my.journey.with.marc 📸 Instagram: @my.journey.with.marc 📺 YouTube: @myjourneywithmarc 🎧 Podcast IG: @this.is.my.journey.podcast 🎧 New episodes every Tuesday at 6am. In this episode of This Is My Journey, I’m joined by James, who started his GLP-1 journey on 31 March and has since lost over 8 stone. James began feeling sceptical about GLP-1 medication and carried a lot of shame around his weight. Like many people, he was stuck in the “I’ll start on Monday” mindset and believed he should be able to do it naturally. Since starting his journey, he has: Lost over 8 stone Reversed pre-diabetes Lowered his blood pressure Gained the clarity to build real habits Started running and going to the gym This episode is about mindset shifts, food noise, confidence, and what becomes possible when the mental fog lifts. We talk about: Overcoming scepticism around GLP-1s Breaking the cycle of shame Why clarity matters more than willpower Building sustainable habits Confidence after weight loss If you’re on a GLP-1, considering it, or feeling stuck in the “start Monday” cycle, this conversation will resonate. On this episode of This Is My Journey, we’re having one of the most important conversations of the season. I’m joined by Dr Sachin Khunti, a doctor with a background in pharmacy and medicine, specialist training in obesity care, and someone who has also lived with obesity from childhood into adulthood. Sachin brings a perspective we don’t hear often enough. He understands obesity not just as a clinician, but as a patient. He has personally used GLP-1 medication, experienced weight regain, restarted treatment, and seen first-hand how biology, stigma, and systems all shape outcomes. In this episode, we talk about: • Why obesity must be treated as a chronic disease, not a lifestyle choice • How childhood obesity shapes identity and long-term health • The UK’s approach to prevention and where gaps still exist • What GLP-1 medication taught him about appetite and food noise • The reality of stopping and restarting treatment • The biggest misconceptions around obesity and GLP-1s • Why stigma remains one of the biggest barriers to care • What better, long-term obesity treatment should look like This is an honest, evidence-based, and deeply human conversation about moving from blame to biology and building systems that truly support people. In this episode, I’m joined by Dr Mike Herring, a double board certified medical doctor, personal trainer, and someone who has lived this journey himself, having lost over 100 pounds and maintained it long term. Dr Mike brings together medical insight, behaviour change, and real world experience to explain why so many people struggle on GLP-1s and what actually leads to sustainable results beyond the medication. We dive into: • The most common mistakes people make on GLP-1s • Why habits matter more than motivation • How GLP-1s affect cravings, stress eating, and reward pathways • The importance of protein, movement, and muscle • Simple habits that create long term success This episode is about realism, not perfection. On this episode of This Is My Journey, we’re tackling one of the most important conversations around GLP-1s. I’m joined by Hira Malik, Chief Pharmacist and Co-Founder of Oushk Pharmacy, who works closely with patients at every stage of their GLP-1 journey, from first consideration through to maintenance and long-term planning. Hira brings a pharmacy-led, safety-first perspective to this episode, and if you’re thinking about starting a GLP-1, already on one, or hearing conflicting information online, this is a must-listen. We dive into: • What safe prescribing actually looks like • The steps someone should take before starting a GLP-1 • How to approach maintenance properly • The rise of misinformation online • The very real risks of black-market and unregulated use • How to protect your health and make informed decisions This episode is all about clarity and empowerment. In this episode, I’m joined by Aja Beckett, Founder of Shotsy, to talk about the part of the GLP-1 journey that so often gets overlooked. What happens after the prescription. After starting her own GLP-1 journey, Aja realised that while the medication helped with weight loss, the real challenge began once the prescription was filled. There was little guidance, no emotional support, and no clear path for navigating the lifestyle and identity changes that followed. That experience led her to build Shotsy, a digital health platform designed to support people using GLP-1s beyond the medication. We dive into: • Why so many people feel lost after starting GLP-1s • The emotional and identity shifts that come with weight loss • The lack of education and support beyond prescriptions • How community and accountability change long term outcomes • What people actually need to feel supported and succeed This episode is honest, emotional, and incredibly validating for anyone who has ever felt like they were doing this on their own. We dive into: • Why some people struggle with side effects on GLP-1s • How nutritional deficiencies can impact energy, mood, hair and skin • What your body actually needs during weight loss • Supplements vs IV therapy and when each makes sense • How to support your body properly during and after your journey This episode is all about doing this the right way. In today’s episode of This Is My Journey, I’m joined by the amazing Amie Moore who has lost an incredible 7 stone on her GLP-1 journey. This conversation goes deep into: • What inspired her to start • Her progress over time • Life-changing transformation • How rapid weight loss led to gallstones • Surgery, recovery, and restarting • The emotional rollercoaster of healing and coming back stronger This episode touches on a topic many people are afraid to talk about. There’s a lot of misinformation online suggesting GLP-1 medications cause gallstones. The truth is rapid weight loss itself carries that risk for any method of losing weight fast. Aimee’s story provides clarity, reassurance, and hope for anyone who has faced complications during their journey.
