It's hard to know where to go for marriage advice, so we brought 3 relationship experts back into the studio to ask them more of your questions about what makes relationships work at every stage of life. How do we manage when the mental load of life becomes overwhelming, or when financial stress, low libido or marriage secrets threaten to damage our relationship beyond repair? Do we need to share everything with our partner, or should we hold some things back? Philip Jinadu, Cathy Madavan and Katharine Hill have decades of experience supporting couples, and they answer your questions with hard-won wisdom on the importance of gratitude, love languages and forgiveness. _________ Whether you're newlyweds or been married for 50+ years, this is the podcast for couples navigating the day-to-day reality of marriage. Miscarriage, baby loss, chronic illness, grief - Tia and Marlon Wallen have been through a lot of hardship together as a couple. They're also a blended family, with Tia already raising her 3-year-old son when they first met. For many couples this might all have been too much to bear, but their resilience, love for each other and commitment to hope sustained them in their toughest moments. Before they welcomed a miraculous baby girl this year, Tia's struggles with endometriosis and fibromyalgia meant they experienced a succession of miscarriages across a ten year infertility journey that took its toll on Tia's health. Marlon's work as a successful creative director, choreographer and founder of Flawless dance collective alongside Tia's content creation work and online success meant that everything seemed fine on the surface - but underneath they were hanging on by their fingertips, navigating a new relationship reality that was a world apart from where things began for them. They told us their story and how they made it through to today - including the ways they worked to support one another through it all, the sustaining power of their faith and a supportive community of close couples who they know they can always rely on. _________ Whether you're newlyweds or been married for 50+ years, this is the podcast for couples navigating the day-to-day reality of marriage. Tim Hughes and Rachel Hughes spoke to us about how their marriage has navigated huge work life balance challenges related to Tim's work as a worship leader and changing seasons of life. Welcoming us to Gas Street Church where they have been church planting together for a decade, the Hughes' let us peek behind the curtain of their relationship, revealing how conflict resolution has changed for them over the years, the importance of their sex life and intimacy together (and how they deal with the challenges of managing this whilst parenting four children!), their adoption journey and what it's really like to lead together on a daily basis. Along the way, we also hear about the importance of taking out the bins (IYKYK), how vital a support network is for any married couple and what it's like for your mums to work together to get you to start dating. _________ Whether you're newlyweds or been married for 50+ years, this is the podcast for couples navigating the day-to-day reality of marriage. Theres a reason that sexual wellness is such a big challenge in so many relationships - and it's not what you might think. Psychosexual therapist Kate Moyle joined us to talk about why communication skills are such a key part of building intimacy in marriage, how we need to broaden our understanding of sexual health and wellbeing and how any couple can start to grow their intimacy together. Kate is the host of The Sexual Wellness Sessions podcast and author of The Science of Sex, two resources that aim to demystify sex therapy and sexual wellbeing, helping people to understand more about what things can impact their intimate lives and how to bring about positive change. Our conversation with Kate was uplifting and encouraging, with lots of easy-to-apply strategies and techniques for how to have conversations about sex as a couple. Her goal is to remove the shame and stigma from these conversations in order to empower couples to recognise that there's a huge amount of hope for change, even when they're really struggling. _________________________________ Couple Goals is back for Season 2 with a whole new slate of guest couples and experts! JB and Chloe Gill have lived their whole relationship in the public eye. They met whilst filming X Factor in 2008 when JB was performing with boyband JLS and Chloe was a professional dancer. There was an instant connection, but building a relationship together wasn't easy. As they both toured all over the world, performing and working in the music industry, it was anything but straightforward. Looking back now, they can see just how tough it was for them to survive that time. But across the years together, they've stayed united and built a strong marriage on the principle that family always comes first. Right from the off, they put things in place to ensure they always stay connected and ensured that they were completely aligned on everything that mattered. Now their world also includes TV work, their award-winning turkey farm, content creation and the performing careers of their two children, things haven't slowed down! They took the time to speak to us about how they make sure they focus on strengthening their connection, what really happened when they first met and the one key rule they've always followed across their marriage which has kept them strong. _________________________________ Couple Goals is back for Season 2 with a whole new slate of guest couples and experts! How do you make your relationship work when your brains are wired differently? What impact does neurodivergence have on a marriage? Is it always going to be challenging, or are there benefits to building a life with someone who is completely opposite to you? These (among many others) are questions Sophie and Pete Killingley have navigated over the last 21 years. Illustrator Sophie has ADHD, whilst Pete, Head of Church Engagement at CARE is neurotypical. They have very different ways of approaching the world, and for them, that's become a strength they draw on. But, that doesn't mean it's always been easy. From the early days of married life, there was a huge amount to learn about how to love one another well in the simplest moments of daily life. And when children came along - both eventually being diagnosed with autism - family life became filled with intricate considerations and adjustments. They've come a long way and learnt a lot, working together to present a united front from which they can parent, work and love each other best. This conversation is full of joy, realism and hope about the day-to-day reality of neurodivergent relationships, autism parenting and celebrating your differences. ____________________ Couple Goals is back for Season 2 with a whole new slate of guest couples and experts! Porn use is often kept secret in relationships. Overwhelmingly - 84% of the time - when porn use is revealed it's discovered by a partner. The disconnection it causes and the feelings of guilt and shame don't make it easy to talk about. The fallout from problematic porn use, secrecy and betrayal can be devastating on relationships. Couple Goals exists to support and uplift couples, even in the hardest moments of challenge. Every week, we have people reach out to us for advice and support on this topic, so we knew it was vital to address. We asked Cat Etherington from Naked Truth Project to join us, to help us understand what the challenges are, and how we can overcome them. As Director of Recovery, she coaches couples and individuals through porn use recovery journeys, by helping them to recognise why they're using porn and how they can work towards healthy, long-term recovery. She helps them to rebuild trust and navigate the trauma and aftermath of the feelings of betrayal that are so common when porn use has been discovered. Even though this is a challenging and often painful topic for many, Cat is bringing a message of hope. Many couples have worked through this and found healing and restoration for their relationship. It's a tough thing for couples to work through, and it will take time, but strength and healthy intimacy is possible on the other side. https://nakedtruthproject.com ____________________ Couple Goals is back for Season 2 with a whole new slate of guest couples and experts! Is is possible to give everything to your career and your marriage at the same time? Is 'busy' a bad word? What does it look like to be truly vulnerable with someone else? How can you live a big life but include everyone around you? How can you process long-term illness and its impact together? We covered all this and more with powerhouse couple Dan and Charlie Blythe. Dan is the Global Youth Director for Alpha and Charlie is EU Director for international anti-slavery charity A21. Parents to two young boys, they also host Yung Cubs, a parenting podcast supporting mums and dads through raw and real conversations about the day-to-day realities of raising children in our modern world. They are passionate about living big, full lives which benefit other people - they're constantly on the move, 'busy' is a banned word in their household. Though they don't always get it right - they want to try and see the things they do as a blessing which they can use in serving as many people as possible. In this episode, Dan and Charlie share with genuine honesty about their story together and their heart to serve each other. We also hear about Charlie's lifelong challenges with epilepsy and the impact that had on their relationship, how they manage to balance family life and work, and what their vision for relationships is. ____________________ Couple Goals is back for Season 2 with a whole new slate of guest couples and experts! Jordan and Kezia Lawrence-Graham are a force of nature. Between them they have half a dozen different careers spanning business ownership, healthcare, leadership and content creation and are still finding time to build a family and advocate for people to invest in real relationships. Behind everything is the strength of their own relationship and the way that they champion one another in everything. As their Insta bio says - 'marriage is our spice 🌶️'. For them, married life isn't something that gets in the way of success, but the engine that helps drive everything - from family to work to their socials, where they share the reality of parenting an excitable 1 year old with their followers. With a relationship story that's straight out of a rom-com, they went from meeting on the street to getting married just 4 months after their engagement. They then quit their jobs, travelled round the world, and ended up flipping 5 houses in their first years. They don't mess around! In everything they want to be open about the reality of married life, the challenges they've faced together and how they're still learning every day to invest in their relationship to make it stronger. They're passionate about using their platform to help other people see the value of marriage and family life in a world that often tells us to prioritise ourselves above everything else. ____________________ Couple Goals is back for Season 2 with a whole new slate of guest couples and experts! Dai and Cath Woolridge are fun to be around. Filling the studio with laughter, this super creative couple are poets, speakers, artists and hosts who have built a reputation for living life to the full and not taking themselves too seriously. But as they reveal in this episode, their marriage has been marked by a 17 year long journey with infertility that has challenged them and their marriage like nothing else. It's something they are still in the middle of right now. With extreme vulnerability, they share how their infertility journey has shaped them and their relationship, being open about how grief, loss and disappointment impacts them differently. Drawing on their own experiences, they also offer wise words on how best to connect with and support people around us who are experiencing infertility. They didn't come with perfect answers, a glorious redemption story or the happy ending that they might have expected at the outset of their marriage. But from the middle of the pain, they share how they've been able to find hope for the future. ____________________ Couple Goals is back for Season 2 with a whole new slate of guest couples and experts! Every couple will go through tough spots in their relationship, and we know how challenging and difficult that can be. IIn a culture that increasingly favours ease and comfort, many people feel like divorce is the only way forward, but what if there was another option? Divorce and Relationships Coach Claire Auchmuty has years of experience working with couples in crisis, and she believes there's always hope for resolution and reconciliation. As she always says, 'the only caveat for change is willingness'. She sensitively asks people the question, 'what if you don't need a divorce?' - often helping them to realise that changing their outlook and bringing in an outside perspective can completely change their relationship for the better. This episode is packed full of important questions, helpful advice and practical next steps to apply in our relationships wherever we're at. Claire also tells us all about her new relationship audit and how courageously confronting the cracks now can help prevent them from becoming chasms later down the line. Andy and Dana Masters were never supposed to work. When they met in L.A. 17 years ago, this singer-songwriter from South Carolina and trainee minister from rural Co. Down, Northern Ireland, didn't get on well – with Andy's jokes not quite landing with Dana. But humour not translating across cultures was just one of the obstacles to overcome. When they started dating, they quickly realised they were opposite in (almost) every way. But despite opposing personality types and backgrounds on different sides of the Atlantic, they have been able to build a relationship that has grown and thrived through everything that life has thrown at them. They share the one thing they have in common that keeps them united despite their differences, how they navigate a cross-cultural relationship and how they've developed habits in their relationship which protect the values they care most strongly about. __________ How do we make relationships work in the face of everything life throws at us, in a culture where it feels like everything is against commitment and long-term love? What do you do when life throws you a massive curveball? Mark and Cathy Madavan know all about it. When they came back from their honeymoon Mark was diagnosed with a degenerative eye condition which would eventually make him fully blind. That was over 30 years ago and he now has almost no vision left. He hasn't seen his wife or his daughters' faces for more than a decade. What does a relationship look like when all your plans are changed in an instant? When you face disappointment or loss? For Mark and Cathy, though they've had a long and happy marriage it's not been all smooth sailing. But from challenging early years ('which had nothing to do with Mark's blindness!') they've built a strong relationship on foundations which are secure in spite of their constantly changing reality. With remarkable honesty and openness, they discuss just how hard marriage has been for them at times, but also how they have kept learning and growing together as they constantly strengthen their relationship to be able to withstand anything that life can throw at them. This episode is full of practical relationship advice, relatable to anyone who is going through marriage problems, struggling with a diagnosis, experiencing grief or just looking to build their relationship. Mark and Cathy are warm, open and real. We couldn't be more excited to share this conversation with you. __________ How do we make relationships work in the face of everything life throws at us, in a culture where it feels like everything is against commitment and long-term love?
