What started as a dream of opening a storefront took an unexpected turn when Covid changed the plans and led Andrea to build a community online around something she loves: food, family, and tradition. In this episode of the Mid-Life Mafia Podcast, Andrea shares the story behind her cannoli journey, her love of Italian cooking, and how social media has opened the door to a community that sends her plenty of love — much of it directed at the real star of the show, her dad! But there’s much more to Andrea than cannoli and cookbooks. She’s also a nurse who has taken part in medical missions, including time helping people in Africa and Panama. We talk about some of those experiences, the people she’s met, and how they have shaped her perspective. And then there’s Christmas — Italian-style. We get into the cooking, the incredible amount of food, the leftovers, the family time, and the memories that come with gathering around the table. For Andrea, food is about much more than recipes. It’s about holding onto childhood memories, creating new ones, and leaving something meaningful behind for the next generation. We also take a trip down memory lane through music and the songs that can instantly transport us back to another time. At the heart of it all is gratitude — for family, for the support she has received, and for the opportunity to live the life she’s dreamed of. In this episode: How Andrea became an online creator The love from online followers Andrea’s career as a nurse The story of cannoli and how Italians made them The magic — and overload — of Italian Christmas cooking The importance of family support What it means to live the dream while creating a legacy for the future If you enjoyed this episode, don’t forget to like, subscribe, and share it with someone who’d love a good story about family, memories, and living life to the fullest! For Colomba, food has always been about more than recipes—it's about preserving traditions, celebrating family, and keeping Italian culture alive. In this episode, Colomba, better known as Festa In Cucina, shares how her daughter encouraged her to start creating content online and how that one suggestion led to a thriving community of people who love authentic Italian cooking and traditions. We dive into growing up in a close-knit Italian-American family in the Bronx, where cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents all lived just steps away. Colomba reflects on the values, traditions, and unforgettable memories that shaped her childhood, from speaking Italian and learning colorful expressions to celebrating Christmas with family around the table. Can massage therapy become part of your midlife survival kit? In this episode, Billy Bossa says absolutely — and he’s breaking down why more people are turning to wellness treatments not just for relaxation, but for recovery, stress relief, hormones, inflammation, and overall self-care. We sit down with Billy Bossa, owner of Bossa Massages & Wellness, for a conversation that starts with some humour around the classic “happy ending” massage stereotype before getting into the very real ways massage and wellness treatments can support people through midlife and beyond. Billy shares how he got into the massage and wellness industry during Covid, the growing demand for treatments like cupping, red light therapy, cryotherapy, lymphatic drainage massage, and body sculpting, and why women make up a large part of his clientele. We also talk about the importance of understanding clients’ health conditions before treatments, how massage and facial therapies can support women dealing with menopause and perimenopause symptoms, and why self-care often gets pushed to the bottom of the priority list in midlife. What’s inside: Billy Bossa’s journey into wellness Different types of massage therapy The funny myths and stereotypes around massages Health protocols and client safety Menopause, perimenopause, and wellness treatments Why it’s never too late to start prioritising wellness This episode is a mix of wellness education, honest conversation, humour, and practical insight into taking better care of yourself — physically and mentally. What happens when two teachers start posting videos online… and suddenly become social media personalities? In this episode, we sit down with Jennifer Brackenbury and Melissa McHale to talk about their unexpected journey from the classroom to TikTok and Instagram. What started with relatable teacher lunch videos quickly turned into a growing online community — and a whole new chapter of life. Jenn and Mel open up about what it was like balancing teaching while building a social media presence, how their students and co-workers reacted after discovering their videos, and the support (and surprises) that came with putting themselves online. We also get into the realities of midlife transitions — from retirement and changing careers to the emotional shift that comes with children growing up and leaving the nest. There’s a very honest conversation about empty nest feelings, protective parenting, and how menopause can affect the way women experience this stage of life. Of course, there are plenty of funny teacher stories too, along with reflections on being kind, understanding students, and how life experience changes the way you connect with people. This episode is full of honest conversations about reinvention, motherhood, teaching, social media, and figuring out what’s next. What’s inside: Jenn and Mel’s beginnings on TikTok & Instagram How teacher lunch videos took off online Teaching, retirement & changing identities Empty nest emotions and kids growing up What students and co-workers think of their content Being supportive and understanding as teachers Funny teacher stories from the classroom Protective parenting in midlife Menopause conversations and mindset shifts Becoming influencers later in life What’s next for Jenn and Mel 👉 If you enjoyed this episode, don’t forget to subscribe, like, and share it with someone figuring out midlife, parenting, career changes, or what comes next. Sometimes reinvention starts with something small… like your daughters convincing you to post on TikTok. In this episode, we sit down with Rita to talk about motherhood, social media, Italian family life, and what it really looks like to build a new chapter for yourself in midlife. Rita shares how her daughters pushed her into the world of TikTok, how that grew into a loyal online community, and why social media can be both rewarding and brutal. From internet trolls to hateful comments (especially when kids are involved), we talk honestly about navigating the online world while protecting your peace. We also get into the chaos and comedy of raising triplets, the dynamics inside big Italian families, and the very real favoritism that can happen when certain kids “get away with more”. There’s also plenty of parenting talk — including Rita’s clever “dipping trick” for getting kids to eat healthier foods — plus the surprising freedom that came when her daughters finally started school. And because midlife keeps showing up in unexpected ways, we talk about reinvention too. Rita opens up about dreaming bigger, creating a manifestation board, stepping into acting with My Big, Gay, Italian Funeral, and embracing new opportunities later in life. Of course, food comes into the conversation too — with Rita sharing her love for simple recipes that don’t take hours in the kitchen. Warm, hilarious, and full of real-life moments, this episode is about motherhood, identity, family, and proving it’s never too late to try something new.
