Welcome to Becoming Secure with Magsmindset; a podcast about love, attachment, self-worth, and becoming the safest place you've ever known. I'm Maggie, a life coach, speaker, and endlessly curious student of human behavior. Every week, we dive into attachment theory, relationships, boundaries, faith, masculinity and femininity, and the stories that shape who we become. Some episodes are vulnerable reflections from my own life. Others are conversations with inspiring guests who've experienced heartbreak, healing, grief, growth, and everything in between. My hope is that when you leave an episode, you understand yourself a little better, love yourself a little deeper, and feel hopeful about what's possible for your life and relationships. Because security isn't something you're born with. It's something you become. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

What if the moment that feels like everything is falling apart is actually the moment your life is trying to redirect you? In this episode of Becoming Secure with Magsmindset, I’m joined by Kathleen Huebner, author of Whispers Within Us, for a conversation about inner peace, rebuilding after major life change, trusting yourself again, and learning to listen to the quiet guidance within you. Kathleen’s own turning point came after the end of a 23-year marriage. She describes it as a “tower moment”, a season that felt uncomfortable, disorienting, and deeply painful, but ultimately forced her to stop, reevaluate, and ask herself who she was outside of the roles she had carried for years. From there, she began the process of finding herself again. In this conversation, we explore: ✨ Finding yourself again after divorce ✨ Why people sometimes grow apart in long-term relationships ✨ What Kathleen calls a “tower moment” ✨ Learning to listen to your inner guidance ✨ Choosing happiness and presence in difficult moments ✨ How to stop turning one bad moment into a bad day ✨ Signs, synchronicities, intuition, and faith ✨ Why so many people feel disconnected from their purpose ✨ Reframing the strengths and talents you already have ✨ Borrowing someone else’s belief when you can’t yet believe in yourself ✨ Finding joy in the life you already have ✨ Trusting that redirection can lead somewhere better Kathleen shared a line that I absolutely loved: “If you don’t believe in yourself, take the belief of somebody else who believes in you.” Let it hold you until your own belief catches up. 🌿 CONNECT WITH KATHLEEN HUEBNER Website: https://whisperswithinus.com You can also find Kathleen and Whispers Within Us on Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn. 🌸 CONNECT WITH MAGSMINDSET Website & Life Coaching: https://magsmindset.com Instagram: https://instagram.com/magsmindset If this conversation resonates with you, subscribe to Becoming Secure with Magsmindset, share it with someone who may be in the middle of their own redirection, and as always: Stay curious and get to know yourself better. #Magsmindset #PersonalGrowth #SelfDiscovery #InnerPeace #Mindset #Healing #SelfAwareness #DivorceRecovery #Purpose #Faith #Intuition #StartingOver Wanna watch the episode? What does morality mean when there are no consequences? This week on Becoming Secure with Magsmindset , I'm joined by author T.A. Thompson , whose dystopian novel The Mark imagines a world where humans no longer live beyond their early twenties. At the center of the story is Alexandra, an anti-hero who has somehow survived longer than almost anyone around her. Believing she could die at any moment changes the way she approaches consequences, relationships, violence, morality, and even her own worth. But what began as a conversation about a fictional character quickly became something much bigger. We explore whether pressure creates our character or simply reveals it, why humans identify so deeply with fictional characters, and whether stories can sometimes teach us about ourselves more effectively than traditional self-help. We talk about my own experience writing my life story, why that process became unexpectedly healing, leaving Norway to discover who I was outside of everything familiar, and what it means to return home after you've changed. Because sometimes it's incredibly difficult to reinvent yourself while surrounded by the same people, patterns, expectations, and environments that knew an earlier version of you. Sometimes growth asks us to look at something uncomfortable and decide: Do I defend, or do I reflect? We also talk about living as though tomorrow isn't guaranteed, self-sabotage, creativity, writing as healing, morality, identity, and what our reactions to fictional characters might reveal about ourselves. 📚 Learn more about T.A. What if the thing that feels like the end of your life is actually asking you to begin again? In this episode of Becoming Secure with Magsmindset, I'm joined by Paul—a disaster relief contractor, search and rescue pilot and diver, transformational specialist, author, and someone who has spent decades helping people rebuild after unimaginable loss. Paul started his first disaster relief company at just 18 years old. Since then, he's responded to fires, floods, tornadoes, hurricanes and tsunamis, sometimes arriving within hours of families losing virtually everything they owned. His message to them was simple: "I need you to dream again." And that's really what this conversation became about. In this conversation, we explore: ✨ How to recognize when you're living in survival mode ✨ What decades of disaster relief taught Paul about human resilience ✨ Why some of our greatest disasters can become our greatest rebirths ✨ Learning to dream again after losing everything ✨ Breaking subconscious patterns and moving beyond autopilot ✨ Why transformation requires action—not just awareness ✨ Paul's four-step process: reveal, rebuild, execute and reinforce ✨ Learning to measure growth through evidence rather than emotion ✨ Self-love after a lifetime of serving everyone else ✨ Faith, surrender and giving tomorrow to God ✨ The relationship between our thoughts, emotions and behaviors ✨ Creating intentional morning routines ✨ Why right now is ultimately all we have One of my favorite reminders from Paul: Yesterday is a canceled check. Tomorrow is a promissory note. Right now is all we've got. You weren't created merely to survive. Maybe it's time to dream again. 🎙️ CONNECT WITH PAUL Blueprints to Success: https://blueprintstosuccess.com Children's books & education: https://squirrelsville.com 🌸 CONNECT WITH MAGSMINDSET Website & Life Coaching: https://magsmindset.com Instagram: https://instagram.com/magsmindset If this conversation resonates with you, subscribe to Becoming Secure with Magsmindset and share this episode with someone who might need permission to dream again. #Magsmindset #SurvivalMode #PersonalGrowth #SelfAwareness #Mindset #Transformation #Resilience #Faith #StartingOver #Healing #IntentionalLiving Wanna watch the episode? I’m turning 30 💛 Instead of mourning my twenties, I find myself looking back at them with an overwhelming amount of gratitude. My twenties broke my heart, challenged me, moved me across countries, introduced me to people who changed me, deepened my faith, and forced me to question so many of the patterns I once thought were simply *who I was*. They taught me about anxious attachment, confidence, heartbreak, self-worth, relationships, God, purpose — and ultimately, what it means to become secure. And then, of course, we're dreaming about what's next. ✨ My twenties were about becoming. My thirties are about being. 💛 Happy birthday to me. 🥂 Stay curious and get to know yourself better. — Maggie #BecomingSecure #MagsMindset #Turning30 #30thBirthday #SelfGrowth #AttachmentTheory #SelfWorth #PersonalGrowth #BecomingSecurelyAttached #Faith #Confidence #LifeLessons Wanna watch the episode? Why is it so hard to find and keep love today? We're trying to recreate marriages based on old rules in a completely new world — and it's not working. Kiana and Andrew have been married for 13 years and work together as a therapist and coach duo at Soul Journey Project. In this conversation, we unpack why people struggle to commit, how social media has warped our expectations of relationships, what men and women actually need from each other, and why avoiding hard conversations slowly destroys the connection. We also talk about the vulnerability paradox — why romantic relationships consume us more than anything else — and why "choosing your hard" now might save you from a lifetime of pain later. Whether you're single, dating, or married, this episode will change how you think about love, communication, and what it really takes to make a relationship last. What do poverty, addiction, education, faith, and 50-year marriages have in common? Generational patterns. Some are meant to be broken, and some are worth carrying forward. Today's guest, Donald Williams, has experienced both, and his story is a beautiful reminder that where you come from can shape you without having to define you. Why do anxious and avoidant partners so often find each other, and why is it so hard to let go? In this episode, I'm joined by relationship coach Kameran from Married & Connected to explore the attachment patterns that shape our relationships. Together we discuss how childhood experiences influence the way we connect, why anxious and avoidant attachment styles create such powerful chemistry, and what it really takes to become secure. Along the way, I also share my own journey of healing from an anxious-avoidant relationship and the lessons that ultimately led me to healthier love. In this conversation, we cover: • The difference between dismissive avoidants and narcissists • How childhood shapes adult relationships • Why we repeat unhealthy patterns • The anxious-avoidant cycle explained • Learning to communicate instead of criticize • Becoming emotionally secure without losing yourself • Why healthy relationships are built on curiosity, repair, and friendship If you've ever found yourself stuck in a push-pull relationship, questioning your worth, or wondering why love feels harder than it should, I hope this conversation reminds you that healing is possible. Because becoming secure isn't about becoming perfect. It's about learning to love yourself well enough to build healthier relationships. What if the next level of your life doesn't require more work, but a different way of thinking? This week I'm joined by Amy Kemp , Habit Finder Coach and author of I See You . Together we explore the subconscious habits of thought that shape our lives, why so many women have learned to make themselves smaller, and how growth often requires letting go of people, places, and identities that no longer fit. We also talk about: • Why you can't outwork your thought habits • Feeling "too much" and learning to embrace it • The grief that comes with personal growth • Community, healing, and the importance of being truly seen • Why awareness creates agency—and agency creates freedom If you've ever struggled with people-pleasing, self-doubt, fear of change, or the feeling that you're meant for more, this conversation is for you. Before you allow yourself to judge and assume how Nicholas was raised, take a moment to consider that maybe, just maybe, this is more common than you think (especially in America), and can indeed happen to your perfect child. Every mother's worst nightmare is losing a child, but for Katie Rizzo, that loss came wrapped in the added weight of shame, stigma, and a healthcare system that failed her son. In this deeply personal conversation, Katie shares the story of her son Nicholas, his years-long struggle with opioid dependence, and the devastating day she lost him to an overdose. We talk about the guilt so many parents carry, why addiction is so often misunderstood as a moral failing rather than a disease, and how a healthcare system built around profit can leave patients — and their families — with nowhere safe to turn. Katie also opens up about grief, what's helped her keep going, and why she's chosen to speak so openly about Nicholas's life and death. This is a raw, honest conversation about loss, healing, and the importance of talking about what we're often taught to hide. ⚠️ Trigger Warning: This episode discusses death and addiction. Katie's book, "The Trimester of Grief," is available for pre-order now, releasing October 6th. Can understanding yourself be the key to understanding everyone else? In this episode of Becoming Secure with Magsmindset, I sit down with Arky Jones, creator of the Archetypical Spectrum Model and founder of Personality Peak. Together we explore: ✨ Why personality isn't fixed ✨ How self-awareness creates real change ✨ The role of stoicism in everyday life ✨ Masculine and feminine traits ✨ Fatherhood, purpose, and responsibility ✨ Why understanding yourself leads to healthier relationships ✨ The importance of community in today's world ✨ How where you place your attention shapes your life One of my favorite takeaways from this conversation is that awareness creates agency. When we understand why we think, feel, and behave the way we do, we gain the freedom to choose differently—and in doing so, we create more peace, stronger relationships, and a deeper understanding of one another. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did. ❤️ If this episode resonates with you, please like, subscribe, and share it with someone who would enjoy it. George shares his own journey — from addiction and violence in his youth to a profound spiritual awakening that let him finally release the weight of his relationship with his father. What do you do when heartbreak leaves you feeling completely stuck? For Gideon Enok, the answer was to walk - 7,000 kilometers from the north of Denmark all the way to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. In this episode, Gideon shares the raw, honest story of how a short-lived relationship sent him into a spiral, how a voice at the ocean changed everything, and how months of walking through Europe alone became a journey of radical faith, emotional release, and profound self-discovery. We talk about: Why walking is one of the most powerful healing tools we have The three phases of the Camino - physical, mental, and spiritual What faith really means when you can't see the road ahead How letting go of control can lead you exactly where you're meant to be And the unexpected love story that found him at the End of the Earth Gideon's book, The Pilgrim Spirit , is out now - and if you're not ready to buy, he's offering the first chapter completely free. 📖 Get the book: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0H5CNPQ52 🎁 Free chapter: https://thepilgrimspirit.com/free-chapter/ 🌐 Website: https://thepilgrimspirit.com/ 🔗 All links: https://linktr.ee/thepilgrimspirit If this episode resonated with you, share it with someone who needs to hear it. What if all that self-work is actually keeping you stuck? Somatic coach, educator, and writer Christina Lane joins me to talk about why the most self-aware people are often the hardest to be in a relationship with, and what it actually takes to heal in real life, not just in theory. We get into: - Why your body knows things your mind refuses to admit - How therapy can turn you into a professional victim - The real reason your standards feel impossible to meet - What it means to be "healed" vs. just being alone - How to build self-trust through the body, not the mind - What men actually want (and why we've been reading it wrong) - The difference between a healthy relationship and a controlled one - Christina's work is rooted in somatic coaching (the practice of listening to your body, not just your thoughts), and her perspective is one of the most refreshing and honest takes on modern dating and relationships I've come across. The answer took me all the way back to 2016, when my self-development journey began. I also share a recent experience from my trip to Malaysia with my boyfriend that made me realize just how much I've changed. NOTE! Video available on YouTube . In this episode, I sit down with marriage coach and former therapist Lee Baucom to talk about what really causes marriages to break down—and how to prevent it. Lee explains that most couples unknowingly “hit the pause button” after committing, turning their focus to life demands and building habits of disconnection. We unpack the three levels of connection—physical, emotional, and spiritual—and why love alone doesn’t sustain a marriage without ongoing attention. We also explore complacency, resentment, and what one partner can do when the other isn’t motivated, including inviting connection rather than chasing it. Finally, we discuss expectations, values-based responding, self-regulation during conflict, and shifting from competition to a team mindset, plus where to find Lee’s Save The Marriage and Unpause Your Marriage resources. In this episode, I’m joined by Lorina Manzanita, a somatic intimacy coach and trauma resolution practitioner, to explore how attachment patterns and developmental trauma get encoded in the body and shape our relationships. We talk about why empaths often self-abandon, people-please, and ignore their own needs, and how mindfulness and somatic awareness can build agency, boundaries, and healthier intimacy. Lorina explains implicit memory in the first 18 months of life, the balance of connection and differentiation in secure attachment, and why attachment can differ with each parent. We unpack intermittent positive reinforcement (“pigeon brain”) and why inconsistent love becomes addictive, plus how breakups can feel like death yet lead to liberation when supported by self-compassion, community, and resourcing. We also discuss eros as a life force, pleasure, and the power of gratitude and asking directly for what you need. In this episode, I talk with Dr. Wendy O’Connor, a licensed psychologist of 18 years who shifted from clinical practice to coaching after burning out while running private practices and raising three daughters under 3. We discuss how high-achieving women can do “all the right things” yet still feel unfulfilled, and why she began focusing on helping women thrive through positive psychology. Wendy explains why women overcommit and say yes to gain approval, belonging, and safety, often leading to self-abandonment, resentment, and anxiety. We cover practical ways to reconnect with yourself, including doing a time audit, tuning into body cues, aligning choices with values, and building resilience and self-trust by taking uncomfortable steps. We also explore how depression and anxiety relate to past and future focus, and we plan a future conversation about Alison Armstrong’s books. In this podcast episode, I talk with Jacquie Elliot—certified life, relationship, and spiritual coach, retreat leader, and author of The Silent Bully—about the “abusive brain chatter” that drove her. Jacquie shares how childhood trauma, including witnessing her mother’s suicide attempt and later sexual abuse, shaped core beliefs and anxious attachment, and how she used her ABC method (Awareness, Believe, Challenge) to become aware of self-bullying, build a spiritual center, and challenge limiting beliefs. We discuss tools like journaling, voice dialogue, identifying emotional abuse patterns, handling fear and criticism while posting online, dating with criteria instead of “pick me” attachment, and reframing body image as an “earth suit.” Find Jacquie here: https://jacquieelliottclc.com/about/ Wanna watch the episode?
