Caring for an aging, seriously ill, or dying pet can be filled with love, uncertainty, difficult choices—and moments of extraordinary connection. Peace of Mind for Pet Parents , hosted by BrightHaven founder Gail Pope and educator Karen Wylie, explores the physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions of animal hospice and end-of-life care. Through compassionate conversations and practical education, Gail and Karen help pet parents better understand what their pet may be experiencing, recognize changing care needs, communicate with veterinary professionals, consider difficult decisions, and care for themselves along the way. Episodes explore quality of life, comfort and palliative care, caregiver overwhelm, anticipatory grief, natural dying, euthanasia, after-death care, memorial rituals, and the continuing bond we share with our animals. Rooted in BrightHaven’s decades of experience and a relationship-centered approach, this podcast honors three intertwined journeys: the pet’s journey, the caregiver’s journey, and the changing relationship between them. You do not have to know everything or face this journey alone. We are here to help you find greater understanding, steadiness, and peace of mind—while making every moment count. How to Keep Love and Connection at the Heart of Caregiving When a beloved pet is diagnosed with a chronic or terminal illness, caregiving can quietly take over every interaction — the pills, the monitoring, the mobility help, the feeding changes — until it starts to feel like there's no time left for anything but tasks. In this episode of Peace of Mind for Pet Parents, hosts Karen Wylie, EdD, and Gail Pope explore what happens when animal caregiving starts to feel more like nursing than loving, and share practical, heartfelt ways to protect the relationship underneath all that care. Drawing on more than three decades of hands-on hospice experience at BrightHaven, Gail shares stories of turning medical routines into genuine connection — from creative ways to make medicine time something pets look forward to, to the atmosphere of music, laughter, and gentle touch that kept fear from taking over during even the busiest caregiving days. Karen shares the story of her cat, Mr. Hope, and how a simple daily ritual around his heart medication became a "ritual of love" that carried them both through the final months of his life without letting caregiving crowd out their bond. Together, Karen and Gail talk honestly about recognizing caregiver burnout, the quiet signs that a pet may be pulling away from a caregiver who has become "all tasks," and small, realistic ways to build in moments of pure connection — no task attached — even on the busiest care days. Whether you're managing pills, subcutaneous fluids, mobility support, or simply trying to stay present with an aging or seriously ill pet, this episode offers both permission and practical tools to remain your pet's person, not just their nurse. In This Episode: Why caregiving tasks can quietly take over the relationship with a chronically or terminally ill pet How to recognize the early signs of caregiver burnout Real strategies for turning medication time into connection, including BrightHaven's colostrum method The story of Mr. Hope, and how ritual can transform daily animal hospice care Small, realistic ways to build in moments of pure connection with your pet 💜 ANNOUNCEMENT: Karen and Gail also share that enrollment is now open for their new 8-week LIVE course, Relationship-Centered Animal Hospice, beginning October 13th and running through December 1st. Why every pet parent needs a plan for end-of-life decisions they can't make in the moment. Losing a pet is hard enough without having to make every decision in the moment. This episode walks pet parents through how to write a pet advance directive—naming a backup decision-maker, defining quality of life, and choosing between natural death and euthanasia—so your wishes are clear before a crisis hits. IN THIS EPISODE • What a pet advance directive is, and how it differs from a human one • Naming a backup decision-maker your pet's caregiver can turn to • Using the LIVING Quality of Life Care Assessment to define what "quality of life" means for your individual pet • How far to go with treatment—and setting financial limits without guilt or shame • Natural death vs. euthanasia: why writing down your leaning (not a locked-in decision) helps whoever steps in for you • Where, with whom, and how much pain management—the details a caregiver can't guess • Helping a new caregiver understand who your pet really is, beyond the basics • Real examples: what Karen has (and hasn't) written down for Chey, Livy, and her cats • Aftercare wishes: burial, cremation, or aquamation, and honoring rituals • Keeping the document current and sharing it with your veterinarian Gail Pope and Karen Wylie, EdD talk through what belongs in a pet's advance directive—and why writing it down now, while you can think clearly, spares your family guesswork and regret later. They share personal stories, including Gail's conversation with her daughter Kirstie about her own advance directive, and Karen's approach to documenting wishes for her Australian Shepherds, Chey and Livy. 💜 This conversation builds on our earlier episode on Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) orders for pets: https://brightpathforpets.com/blog/peace-of-mind-for-pet-parents-episode-060-what-if-your-pet-had-a-dnr-planning-for-peace-when-crisis-hits/ 💜 And draws on the tools in If Something Happens To Me: A Pet Parent's Workbook for Planning Your Pet's Future Care, by Karen Wylie, EdD and Gail Pope: https://brightpathforpets.com/pet-future-care-planning-workbook/ 💜 ANNOUNCEMENT: Join Karen and Gail for Relationship-Centered Animal Hospice, a new live, 8-week introductory course open to pet parents, pet care practitioners, and veterinary team members. 2 Kinds of Caregiver Regret, and How to Move Forward From Both. "We did our best" is the phrase pet parents hear more than almost any other after a loss. But what happens when the honest answer is more complicated than that? In this episode, Karen Wylie, EdD and Gail Pope respond to a listener's comment that named something they'd never fully put into words — and it changes how they think about regret going forward. A listener named Wendy left a comment on Episode 21 (their original episode on regret) describing a specific kind of guilt: seeing a known sign of illness, minimizing it, and not going to the vet — even when the eventual decision turned out to be the right one. Karen and Gail realized Episode 21 had only ever covered one kind of regret. So in this episode, they name two: Decision regret — looking back at a choice you made and second-guessing it, even though you made the best call you could with the information you had Noticing regret — seeing a possible warning sign and choosing not to act on it, which is a harder kind of regret to forgive because it isn't about not knowing, it's about not following through Karen and Gail get personal here. Karen shares the story of nearly missing the signs of her dog Chey's partial cruciate ligament tear, and a decades-old memory of trusting her gut with a Birman cat's mysterious eye symptom. Gail opens up about the very present, very raw decision she's navigating right now with her cat Maisie — kidney failure, subcutaneous fluids that terrify her, and the daily argument she has with herself about whether she's doing enough. This episode won't tell you there's an easy way to silence that voice. But it will help you name what you're carrying, understand where it comes from, and start finding your way back to self-compassion — whether your regret is about a decision you made, or a sign you noticed and let go.💜 📌 Related Resource: 📖 The LIVING Assessment- https://brightpathforpets.com/resources/living-quality-of-life-assessment/ 📖 PEACEFUL Quality of Dying Guide: Signs of a Peaceful Passing - https://brightpathforpets.com/resources/peaceful-quality-of-dying-guide/ 📖 Menu for Healing - https://brightpathforpets.com/resources/brighthaven-menu-for-healing/ A BrightPath TRANSITION Series Booklet - https://brightpathforpets.com/soul-centered-care-booklet/ 📖 Nourishing Through Illness: Supporting Appetite, Comfort, and Care for Pets with Life-Changing Diagnoses - brightpathforpets.com/nourishing-through-illness 📖 The Pet Legacy & Lifetime Care Planning Workbook - brightpathforpets.com/pet-future-care-planning-workbook 📖 The BrightHaven Way: Lessons from 700 Animal Teachers PDF: https://brightpathforpets.com/brighthaven-way-book/ 📖 Walking The BrightPath: A Pet Parent’s Guide To Home Hospice And Natural Transition - https://brightpathforpets.com/blog/pet-hospice-guide 🌹 Join our monthly Rose Ceremony (free online pet celebration): https://brightpathforpets.com/rose-ceremony/ 💬 If this episode touched your heart, you’re not alone. When a pet parent calls in a panic and says, "I don't know if this is normal," they're almost always describing one of a handful of very predictable signs. In this episode, Karen Wylie, EdD and Gail Pope walk you gently through what actually happens in the body as death approaches — so that if you find yourself in this moment, you'll recognize what you're seeing instead of fearing it. We cover: Why appetite loss is so often the first sign pet parents notice — and why panic sets in right around the same time What's really happening when a pet vomits after eating, and why the rule is always "offer food, but never force it" Incontinence and weakness as the body naturally lets go of control Why pain is not a normal part of dying — but must still be treated if it's present from a chronic illness The real difference between pain (physical) and suffering (emotional) — and why animals rarely suffer the way we imagine they do Twitching, restlessness, and other neurological changes that can look alarming but are simply part of Mother Nature's process Gail also shares something unusually vulnerable: her cat Maisie, adopted just a couple of months ago, stopped eating two days before this recording — and Gail talks through her own panic, in real time, even after thirty-plus years of doing this work. It's a rare, honest look at what it feels like to sit inside the process you've taught others how to navigate. Whether you're facing this moment right now or simply want to be prepared, this episode will help you recognize what's normal, know when to reach out, and trust that you don't have to have all the answers — you just have to stay present with love.💜 📌 Related Resource: 📖 PEACEFUL Quality of Dying Guide: Signs of a Peaceful Passing - https://brightpathforpets.com/resources/peaceful-quality-of-dying-guide/ 📖 Menu for Healing - https://brightpathforpets.com/resources/brighthaven-menu-for-healing/ 📖 The LIVING Assessment- https://brightpathforpets.com/resources/living-quality-of-life-assessment/ A BrightPath TRANSITION Series Booklet - https://brightpathforpets.com/soul-centered-care-booklet/ 📖 Nourishing Through Illness: Supporting Appetite, Comfort, and Care for Pets with Life-Changing Diagnoses - brightpathforpets.com/nourishing-through-illness 📖 The Pet Legacy & Lifetime Care Planning Workbook - brightpathforpets.com/pet-future-care-planning-workbook 📖 The BrightHaven Way: Lessons from 700 Animal Teachers PDF: https://brightpathforpets.com/brighthaven-way-book/ 📖 Walking The BrightPath: A Pet Parent’s Guide To Home Hospice And Natural Transition - https://brightpathforpets.com/blog/pet-hospice-guide 🌹 Join our monthly Rose Ceremony (free online pet celebration): https://brightpathforpets.com/rose-ceremony/ 💬 If this episode touched your heart, you’re not alone. If your pet died while you stepped out of the room, or you weren't able to be there in their final moments, you may still carry guilt about it. In this episode, Karen Wylie, EdD and Gail Pope close out their four-part series on hospice myths by exploring the tender territory of being present at the time of death. We tackle three deeply held beliefs that can weigh heavily on pet parents: The myth that when animals die alone, their loved ones have failed them — and why so many animals seem to wait until we step away The myth that children should be shielded from a dying pet — and what decades of hospice experience shows about what children are actually capable of understanding The myth that men don't cry — and why permission to grieve openly matters for every caregiver, regardless of gender Along the way, Gail shares a deeply personal story about being present at her husband Richard's death, and what it taught her about letting go. She also tells the story of her granddaughter Emma and a beloved cat named Elvis — a moment that reshaped how she understands children and natural death. Whether your pet is still with you or you're carrying grief from a loss in the past, this conversation offers real permission: you don't have to be in the room at the exact right moment to have loved well. You did your best, and you did it with love. And that is enough.💜 📌 Related Resource: 📖 Menu for Healing - https://brightpathforpets.com/resources/brighthaven-menu-for-healing/ 📖 The LIVING Assessment- https://brightpathforpets.com/resources/living-quality-of-life-assessment/ A BrightPath TRANSITION Series Booklet - https://brightpathforpets.com/soul-centered-care-booklet/ 📖 Nourishing Through Illness: Supporting Appetite, Comfort, and Care for Pets with Life-Changing Diagnoses - brightpathforpets.com/nourishing-through-illness 📖 The Pet Legacy & Lifetime Care Planning Workbook - brightpathforpets.com/pet-future-care-planning-workbook 📖 The BrightHaven Way: Lessons from 700 Animal Teachers PDF: https://brightpathforpets.com/brighthaven-way-book/ 📖 Download the PEACEFUL Quality of Dying Guide: Signs of a Peaceful Passing at: https://brightpathforpets.com/resources-html/ 📖 Walking The BrightPath: A Pet Parent’s Guide To Home Hospice And Natural Transition - https://brightpathforpets.com/blog/pet-hospice-guide 🌹 Join our monthly Rose Ceremony (free online pet celebration): https://brightpathforpets.com/rose-ceremony/ 💬 If this episode touched your heart, you’re not alone. We've spent the last two episodes exploring why families wait too long to consider hospice care, and what's really happening in a pet's body during the dying process. This week, Karen Wylie, EdD and Gail Pope turn the lens inward, toward what's happening for us as caregivers. Because there are three beliefs many loving pet parents carry that can quietly get in the way of a peaceful ending, both for our pets and for ourselves. The belief that we have to do everything possible, no matter what. The belief that staying positive can somehow change the outcome. And the belief that we have to hold ourselves together and hide our grief so we don't upset our pet. These beliefs all come from love. But in this honest, heart-forward conversation, Karen and Gail unpack why each one deserves a second look. Myth #1: I must do everything possible to keep them alive. Gail shares how her own approach began in "fix-it" mode decades ago at the start of BrightHaven, and how she gradually learned to trust Mother Nature as, in her words, "the other doctor in the room." Karen shares what she's learned firsthand while helping her own dog, Shay, manage a knee injury, and the two talk through how to tell the difference between fighting for your pet and fighting the natural process of decline. Myth #2: Positive thinking can delay our pet's death. Karen and Gail talk honestly about the fear underneath this myth, the fear of even thinking about death and dying, and why hospice and death remain two of the most feared words in our culture. They share what genuinely helps: prayer, mindfulness, presence, and simply following your pet's lead. Myth #3: We shouldn't burden our dying pet with our tears. This is the one Gail calls "a big one for me." Crying is healing. Tears release endorphins. And our pets already know when we're grieving, whether we let them see it or not. Gail shares the story of a young boy and his dying dog, Belka, and why sharing our grief with our pets may be one of the most loving things we can do. Karen shares her own twenty-year practice of preparing her pets emotionally and spiritually for their transition, and how animals often support each other as "animal doulas" in the dying process. Along the way, Karen and Gail also talk about the difference between fighting for your pet and fighting the natural process of decline, why "Dr. Google" can be a genuinely useful resource for straightforward questions but less reliable once you step into holistic or more nuanced territory, and why the trajectory toward the end of life often becomes less like jumping off a cliff and more like a long, gentle decline, when we stop rushing to fix everything and simply let it unfold. As Gail says at the close of this episode, it isn't about doing and being for our pets. It's about taking the journey together. It begins and ends with love. If you've ever felt guilty for not doing enough, or worried that your grief might upset your pet, this conversation is for you. You're not alone in carrying these beliefs, and you're not failing your pet by questioning them. 💜 📌 Related Resource: 📖 Menu for Healing - https://brightpathforpets.com/resources/brighthaven-menu-for-healing/ 📖 The LIVING Assessment- https://brightpathforpets.com/resources/living-quality-of-life-assessment/ A BrightPath TRANSITION Series Booklet - https://brightpathforpets.com/soul-centered-care-booklet/ 📖 Nourishing Through Illness: Supporting Appetite, Comfort, and Care for Pets with Life-Changing Diagnoses - brightpathforpets.com/nourishing-through-illness 📖 The Pet Legacy & Lifetime Care Planning Workbook - brightpathforpets.com/pet-future-care-planning-workbook 📖 The BrightHaven Way: Lessons from 700 Animal Teachers PDF: https://brightpathforpets.com/brighthaven-way-book/ 📖 Download the PEACEFUL Quality of Dying Guide: Signs of a Peaceful Passing at: https://brightpathforpets.com/resources-html/ 📖 Walking The BrightPath: A Pet Parent’s Guide To Home Hospice And Natural Transition - https://brightpathforpets.com/blog/pet-hospice-guide 🌹 Join our monthly Rose Ceremony (free online pet celebration): https://brightpathforpets.com/rose-ceremony/ 💬 If this episode touched your heart, you’re not alone. Watching a pet stop eating, sleep more, or seem far away can feel like failure — but it's not. In this episode, Karen Wylie and Gail Pope bust the biggest myths about active dying, explaining the natural body chemistry, from endorphins to enkephalins, that makes a pet's final days more peaceful than most families realize. IN THIS EPISODE Karen Wylie and Gail Pope tackle the myths that keep families afraid during a pet's final days, starting with the biggest one: that dying itself is painful. They walk through why appetite and thirst naturally fade, why sleep increases, and why the body's own endorphins and enkephalins provide comfort without medication. Gail also addresses two of the most common 2 a.m. questions: whether to force-feed a pet who's stopped eating, and whether seizures are a normal part of the dying process. The episode closes with a gentle reframe — picturing the body as a house the spirit is stepping out of — to help families be present without trying to fix what doesn't need fixing. KEY TOPICS COVERED • Is dying painful, or is it the underlying illness? • How endorphins and enkephalins relieve pain naturally at end of life • Why dying pets stop eating and drinking, and why force-feeding isn't the answer • Managing fluids and hydration in the final days • Why pets sleep more as they approach death • Are seizures normal at the end of life? • The "body as a house" metaphor for understanding natural death 📌 Related Resource: 📖 PEACEFUL PDF - brightpathforpets.com/resources/peaceful-quality-of-dying-guide 📖 The LIVING Assessment- https://brightpathforpets.com/resources/living-quality-of-life-assessment/ A BrightPath TRANSITION Series Booklet - https://brightpathforpets.com/soul-centered-care-booklet/ 📖 Nourishing Through Illness: Supporting Appetite, Comfort, and Care for Pets with Life-Changing Diagnoses - brightpathforpets.com/nourishing-through-illness 📖 The Pet Legacy & Lifetime Care Planning Workbook - brightpathforpets.com/pet-future-care-planning-workbook 📖 The BrightHaven Way: Lessons from 700 Animal Teachers PDF: https://brightpathforpets.com/brighthaven-way-book/ 📖 Download the PEACEFUL Quality of Dying Guide: Signs of a Peaceful Passing at: https://brightpathforpets.com/resources-html/ 📖 Walking The BrightPath: A Pet Parent’s Guide To Home Hospice And Natural Transition - https://brightpathforpets.com/blog/pet-hospice-guide 🌹 Join our monthly Rose Ceremony (free online pet celebration): https://brightpathforpets.com/rose-ceremony/ 💬 If this episode touched your heart, you’re not alone. The surprising statistics behind hospice — and the myths that keep families from asking for help sooner. Half of all human hospice patients die within just 18 days of enrolling — and nearly a quarter enroll in their very last week of life, even though hospice is available for up to six months. That statistic breaks our hearts every time we come back to it, because we see the exact same pattern in animal families: people waiting until there's almost nothing left to wait for. In this episode, Karen Wylie and Gail Pope dig into the myths that keep pet parents — and people — from reaching out for hospice support sooner, starting with the biggest one of all: that hospice means it's basically over. Gail reframes hospice as the last chapter of living, not a countdown to death, and shares an unforgettable, deeply personal story about her late husband Richard, who told his hospice doctor he'd "think about it for a couple of weeks" just hours before he died. Karen and Gail also unpack: Why pain is the biggest myth about natural death — and what's actually normal in the dying process How to prepare for a home death so you're not blindsided by what it actually looks like Why so few pet parents ever hear the word "hospice" from their veterinarian What it really means to shift from curing to comfort — for pets and for people If you're sitting with a difficult diagnosis right now, this episode is for you. Hospice isn't something to turn to only when there's nothing left to do — it's something to turn toward, as early as possible, so you and your pet can have more weeks and months of comfort, connection, and peace than you knew were possible.💜 📌 Related Resource: 📖 PEACEFUL PDF - brightpathforpets.com/resources/peaceful-quality-of-dying-guide 📖 The LIVING Assessment- https://brightpathforpets.com/resources/living-quality-of-life-assessment/ A BrightPath TRANSITION Series Booklet - https://brightpathforpets.com/soul-centered-care-booklet/ 📖 Nourishing Through Illness: Supporting Appetite, Comfort, and Care for Pets with Life-Changing Diagnoses - brightpathforpets.com/nourishing-through-illness 📖 The Pet Legacy & Lifetime Care Planning Workbook - brightpathforpets.com/pet-future-care-planning-workbook 📖 The BrightHaven Way: Lessons from 700 Animal Teachers PDF: https://brightpathforpets.com/brighthaven-way-book/ 📖 Download the PEACEFUL Quality of Dying Guide: Signs of a Peaceful Passing at: https://brightpathforpets.com/resources-html/ 📖 Walking The BrightPath: A Pet Parent’s Guide To Home Hospice And Natural Transition - https://brightpathforpets.com/blog/pet-hospice-guide 🌹 Join our monthly Rose Ceremony (free online pet celebration): https://brightpathforpets.com/rose-ceremony/ 💬 If this episode touched your heart, you’re not alone. Every pet parent wants to make the right call at the right time. But love, fear, and exhaustion all have a quiet way of changing what we're actually able to see. In this episode, Karen Wylie and Gail Pope talk honestly about the three things that most commonly cloud a caregiver's judgment — not to fix them, but to name them, because naming them is often the first step to seeing more clearly. Karen opens with the story of her cat Mr. Hope's red eye — a symptom she caught and treated in the moment, but only fully understood two years later, when a photograph revealed how much he had actually declined. Gail shares a parallel truth from her own life: how a symptom in front of us can become the entire focus, while everything else about how a pet is doing quietly falls out of view. They then turn to fear — how it can make caregivers brace for the worst even on a good day, illustrated by Gail's story of worrying over her newly adopted cat Maisie's litter box habits. "Love can blur the bad, and fear can blur the good," as Karen puts it. Finally, they talk about the exhaustion that builds over long-term caregiving, and the routines that help hold it at bay — Gail's practice of "checking in" with each animal during daily feeding rounds at BrightHaven, and Karen's habit of compartmentalizing caregiving tasks into set morning and evening rounds, so she can let go and enjoy the rest of her day. Have you ever sat next to a pet in decline and thought, "I don't know if this is pain, or if it's just old age"? You're not alone — and that question is exactly what this episode is about. Gail Pope and Karen Wylie follow hospice nurse Barbara Karnes, whose decades of teaching human hospice families translate surprisingly well into animal care — with one key difference: our pets can't tell us in words how they feel. Their behavior has to speak for them. In this conversation, Gail and Karen unpack: Why dying itself usually isn't painful — disease is The difference between ordinary discomfort and true pain How Gail's own approach to comfort care has evolved — bedding, diet, homeopathy, and CBD Why behavior becomes your pet's "vocabulary" when words aren't possible How keeping a simple daily record helps your veterinarian help you Gail's view of Mother Nature as "the other doctor in the room" How good pain management and close observation can make natural death feel like a stronger, safer option Why education — not fear — is what carries a pet parent through the hardest decisions If you've ever wondered whether you're missing something, or whether you're overreacting to something completely normal, this episode offers a gentler way to trust what you're seeing — and yourself. 💜 📌 Related Resource: 📖 PEACEFUL PDF - brightpathforpets.com/resources/peaceful-quality-of-dying-guide 📖 The LIVING Assessment- https://brightpathforpets.com/resources/living-quality-of-life-assessment/ A BrightPath TRANSITION Series Booklet - https://brightpathforpets.com/soul-centered-care-booklet/ 📖 Nourishing Through Illness: Supporting Appetite, Comfort, and Care for Pets with Life-Changing Diagnoses - brightpathforpets.com/nourishing-through-illness 📖 The Pet Legacy & Lifetime Care Planning Workbook - brightpathforpets.com/pet-future-care-planning-workbook 📖 The BrightHaven Way: Lessons from 700 Animal Teachers PDF: https://brightpathforpets.com/brighthaven-way-book/ 📖 Download the PEACEFUL Quality of Dying Guide: Signs of a Peaceful Passing at: https://brightpathforpets.com/resources-html/ 📖 Walking The BrightPath: A Pet Parent’s Guide To Home Hospice And Natural Transition - https://brightpathforpets.com/blog/pet-hospice-guide 🌹 Join our monthly Rose Ceremony (free online pet celebration): https://brightpathforpets.com/rose-ceremony/ 💬 If this episode touched your heart, you’re not alone. Almost every pet parent asks themselves this question at some point, usually late at night: Am I keeping my pet alive for me, or for them? It can feel like an accusation the moment it crosses your mind — but Gail Pope and Karen Wylie don't think it's nearly as damning as it sounds. In this episode, Gail and Karen unpack where this question really comes from — fear of death, lack of education, and, underneath both, love — and share BrightHaven's guiding philosophy, Healing for the Highest Good. Instead of focusing on fixing a diagnosis or an aging process, Healing for the Highest Good asks what will support the whole being — physically, emotionally, and spiritually — one day at a time. You'll hear Gail and Karen talk through: Why this question tends to surface, and why it isn't a sign of failure What Healing for the Highest Good means in daily, practical terms Why "for my pet" and "for me" are never really separate in a caregiving relationship How anticipatory grief quietly complicates end-of-life caregiving Why wanting more time with a sick or aging pet doesn't make you selfish How the BrightPath LIVING Quality of Life Assessment can offer a gentle gut-check Why appetite changes alone don't always mean it's time The importance of being kind to yourself as part of caring well for your pet If you've been lying awake wondering whether you're doing the right thing by your pet, this conversation is for you. As Gail and Karen remind us: asking the question means you're paying attention, and that's not selfishness — that's love.💜 📌 Related Resource: 📖 The LIVING Assessment- https://brightpathforpets.com/resources/living-quality-of-life-assessment/ A BrightPath TRANSITION Series Booklet - https://brightpathforpets.com/soul-centered-care-booklet/ 📖 Nourishing Through Illness: Supporting Appetite, Comfort, and Care for Pets with Life-Changing Diagnoses - brightpathforpets.com/nourishing-through-illness 📖 The Pet Legacy & Lifetime Care Planning Workbook - brightpathforpets.com/pet-future-care-planning-workbook 📖 The BrightHaven Way: Lessons from 700 Animal Teachers PDF: https://brightpathforpets.com/brighthaven-way-book/ 📖 Download the PEACEFUL Quality of Dying Guide: Signs of a Peaceful Passing at: https://brightpathforpets.com/resources-html/ 📖 Walking The BrightPath: A Pet Parent’s Guide To Home Hospice And Natural Transition - https://brightpathforpets.com/blog/pet-hospice-guide 🌹 Join our monthly Rose Ceremony (free online pet celebration): https://brightpathforpets.com/rose-ceremony/ 💬 If this episode touched your heart, you’re not alone. Why is euthanasia the automatic response to a terminal diagnosis — even when it isn't actually serving the pet, the pet parent, or the veterinarian performing the procedure? In this episode, Karen Wylie, EdD, and Gail Pope open up a conversation they've wanted to have for a long time: how euthanasia became the default, and what it's costing all three parties involved. This is not an argument against euthanasia. Karen and Gail are clear from the start: when a pet is in genuine pain or suffering, euthanasia can be one of the most loving choices a family can make. But they've also both witnessed families walk away from that decision carrying guilt, regret, and the nagging feeling that something wasn't right — that it was too soon, or handled on the wrong day, for the wrong reasons. Gail traces the roots of the problem back to a culture that has grown increasingly afraid of death — for humans first, and then, by extension, for our pets. Karen shares a striking comparison: while 92–99% of human deaths in the US, Canada, Australia, and the UK are attributed to natural causes, and medical aid in dying accounts for less than 1% of human deaths, roughly 90% of companion animals are euthanized. Given how biologically similar we are to our pets, the two ask: why such a dramatic difference? The conversation moves through some of the marketing language used to make euthanasia decisions feel easier — phrases like "better a day too early than a day too late" — and how that language can quietly remove the animal's own experience from the decision. Karen and Gail talk about why most people, and most veterinarians, have never actually witnessed a natural death, and how that lack of exposure feeds fear on all sides. They also explore what changes when a pet is allowed to lead its own transition: how grief looks different, how it can become less entangled with guilt and regret, and how supporting an animal through natural decline — whether from illness or simple old age — can offer families the chance to say everything they needed to say, in their own time. This episode focuses closely on how the current system affects pets and pet parents. The third piece of this picture — how it affects veterinarians themselves — is a conversation Karen and Gail will pick up directly in an upcoming 30-minute webinar on natural death as an option, exploring why this choice is so rarely discussed between veterinarians and the families they serve. Details on that webinar will be shared soon. If today's conversation stirs something in you — a past decision, a decision you're facing now, or one you sense may be coming — Karen and Gail invite you to sit with it not with guilt, but with curiosity about what might be possible. Natural death isn't the right path for every pet or every family. But it is a real, supported path, and it deserves a place in every conversation that begins with a serious diagnosis.💜 📌 Related Resource: 🔗 Animal Hospice Group ( animalhospicegroup.com ) — professional certification organization in animal hospice and palliative care 📖 Soul-Centered Care: Seeing Pet Death Differently A BrightPath TRANSITION Series Booklet - https://brightpathforpets.com/soul-centered-care-booklet/ 📖 Nourishing Through Illness: Supporting Appetite, Comfort, and Care for Pets with Life-Changing Diagnoses - brightpathforpets.com/nourishing-through-illness 📖 The Pet Legacy & Lifetime Care Planning Workbook - brightpathforpets.com/pet-future-care-planning-workbook 📖 The BrightHaven Way: Lessons from 700 Animal Teachers PDF: https://brightpathforpets.com/brighthaven-way-book/ 📖 Download the PEACEFUL Quality of Dying Guide: Signs of a Peaceful Passing at: https://brightpathforpets.com/resources-html/ 📖 Walking The BrightPath: A Pet Parent’s Guide To Home Hospice And Natural Transition - https://brightpathforpets.com/blog/pet-hospice-guide 🌹 Join our monthly Rose Ceremony (free online pet celebration): https://brightpathforpets.com/rose-ceremony/ 💬 If this episode touched your heart, you’re not alone. What is a certified animal hospice practitioner — and why have most pet parents never heard of one? In this episode of Peace of Mind for Pet Parents, Karen and Gail pull back the curtain on one of the most misunderstood and underutilized sources of support available to families caring for aging or seriously ill pets. The short answer: a certified animal hospice practitioner is not a veterinarian — and that's exactly what makes them so valuable. Over the past five years, Animal Hospice Group has trained and certified practitioners from remarkably diverse backgrounds — pet sitters, social workers, Reiki practitioners, grief counselors, animal chaplains, canine massage therapists, and more. What they share is not a medical degree. What they share is a deep love for animals and a calling to walk beside pet parents through one of the most difficult seasons of life. In this conversation, Karen and Gail talk about: Who becomes a certified animal hospice practitioner and what draws them to this work What happens inside AHG's training that changes not just skills, but presence and confidence Why staying out of the medical lane actually makes a CAHP more valuable, not less What a CAHP can offer that a 15-minute vet visit simply cannot How hospice care — far from meaning "giving up" — can sometimes extend and enrich a pet's life in surprising ways Why this work is, as Gail says, all about life, living, and loving Whether you are a pet parent wondering who can really support you between vet visits, or someone quietly wondering if you might belong in this work yourself — this episode was made for you. The world needs more people willing to show up for animals and their families in these most tender moments. Karen and Gail are here to show you what that looks like. 💜 📌 Related Resource: 🔗 Animal Hospice Group ( animalhospicegroup.com ) — professional certification organization in animal hospice and palliative care 📖 Soul-Centered Care: Seeing Pet Death Differently A BrightPath TRANSITION Series Booklet - https://brightpathforpets.com/soul-centered-care-booklet/ 📖 Nourishing Through Illness: Supporting Appetite, Comfort, and Care for Pets with Life-Changing Diagnoses - brightpathforpets.com/nourishing-through-illness 📖 The Pet Legacy & Lifetime Care Planning Workbook - brightpathforpets.com/pet-future-care-planning-workbook 📖 The BrightHaven Way: Lessons from 700 Animal Teachers PDF: https://brightpathforpets.com/brighthaven-way-book/ 📖 Download the PEACEFUL Quality of Dying Guide: Signs of a Peaceful Passing at: https://brightpathforpets.com/resources-html/ 📖 Walking The BrightPath: A Pet Parent’s Guide To Home Hospice And Natural Transition - https://brightpathforpets.com/blog/pet-hospice-guide 🌹 Join our monthly Rose Ceremony (free online pet celebration): https://brightpathforpets.com/rose-ceremony/ 💬 If this episode touched your heart, you’re not alone. When a beloved pet has a life-changing diagnosis, one of the hardest things to do is think ahead. Most of us avoid it — not because we don't care, but because we care so deeply. We worry that planning for our pet's death somehow means giving up on them, or even hurrying it along. In this episode, Karen and Gail gently but directly address that fear — and explain why preparing, far from being an act of surrender, is actually one of the greatest gifts you can give both your pet and yourself. Together, they walk through what thoughtful preparation looks like across four interconnected areas: The Physical Side — From mobility aids and comfort kits to veterinary conversations about pain and symptom management, Karen and Gail talk honestly about how your pet's practical needs will shift over time — and why flexible, adaptive planning beats trying to have everything figured out from day one. The Emotional Side — Long before a pet takes their last breath, most caregivers are already grieving. That grief even has a name: anticipatory grief. Gail shares a deeply personal story about what it felt like the day after losing Bobby, one of BrightHaven's beloved cats — and why being willing to grieve with your pet before they leave may be one of the most loving things you can do. The Spiritual Side — You don't need to identify as spiritual or religious to find meaning and peace in this process. Karen and Gail explore what sacred space looks like in practice, how Gail's concept of the "body house" has helped countless caregivers make sense of loss, and why they believe that our relationship with our pets doesn't end with physical death. The Practical Side — From researching at-home euthanasia vets while you're still thinking clearly, to planning how you'd like to honor your pet's body after death, this episode covers the decisions most people leave until the last possible moment — and explains why thinking them through early makes all the difference. Whether you have months ahead with your pet or just days, Karen and Gail remind you: it's never too late to begin. Even small steps of preparation give you the gift of presence when the moment arrives — so that when it comes, you can simply be with your pet, without scrambling, without regret, and without feeling alone. 💜 📌 Related Resource: 📖Comfort Kit for Pets (Episode 037): https://brightpathforpets.com/blog/peace-of-mind-for-pet-parents-episode-037-pet-comfort-kit-essential-supplies-guide/ 📖 Soul-Centered Care: Seeing Pet Death Differently A BrightPath TRANSITION Series Booklet - https://brightpathforpets.com/soul-centered-care-booklet/ 📖 Nourishing Through Illness: Supporting Appetite, Comfort, and Care for Pets with Life-Changing Diagnoses - brightpathforpets.com/nourishing-through-illness 📖 The Pet Legacy & Lifetime Care Planning Workbook - brightpathforpets.com/pet-future-care-planning-workbook 📖 The BrightHaven Way: Lessons from 700 Animal Teachers PDF: https://brightpathforpets.com/brighthaven-way-book/ 📖 Download the PEACEFUL Quality of Dying Guide: Signs of a Peaceful Passing at: https://brightpathforpets.com/resources-html/ 📖 Walking The BrightPath: A Pet Parent’s Guide To Home Hospice And Natural Transition - https://brightpathforpets.com/blog/pet-hospice-guide 🌹 Join our monthly Rose Ceremony (free online pet celebration): https://brightpathforpets.com/rose-ceremony/ 💬 If this episode touched your heart, you’re not alone. You just left the veterinarian's office with news that changed everything. Your mind is racing, your heart is breaking, and you're not sure what to do next. You're not alone — and this episode is for you. In this conversation, Karen Wylie and Gail Pope talk honestly and compassionately about what really happens in those first few hours and days after a pet receives a life-changing diagnosis — whether that's cancer, kidney disease, heart disease, cognitive decline, or another serious condition. Rather than focusing on any one disease, Karen and Gail focus on you — the caregiver — and what you need most right now. In this episode, you'll hear: Why shock, panic, and anticipatory grief set in so quickly after a difficult diagnosis — and why that's completely normal The difference between a diagnosis, a prognosis, and a prediction (and why "how much time do we have?" may be the wrong first question) Why your vet's best guess is not a calendar — and how some animals far outlive everyone's expectations What to bring to every veterinary appointment so you don't leave more confused than when you walked in How to begin building a baseline for your pet's quality of life starting today Why your pet doesn't know there's a diagnosis in play — and what they'd want you to focus on instead How to bring your family, friends, and support network into your caregiving circle What anticipatory grief is, why it begins at diagnosis, and how small, meaningful moments help carry you through Gail shares her decades of experience caring for hundreds of animals through serious illness at BrightHaven, including how she learned to receive difficult news without rushing to the end of the story. Karen shares the story of Mr. Hope — a beloved cat whose heart diagnosis at age 14 became a turning point in understanding how to love a pet through uncertainty. This episode won't tell you what to do medically. What it will do is help you breathe, find your footing, and remember that the diagnosis may change the future — but it does not change today. 💜 📌 Related Resource: 📖 Nourishing Through Illness: Supporting Appetite, Comfort, and Care for Pets with Life-Changing Diagnoses - brightpathforpets.com/nourishing-through-illness 📖 The Pet Legacy & Lifetime Care Planning Workbook - brightpathforpets.com/pet-future-care-planning-workbook 📖 The BrightHaven Way: Lessons from 700 Animal Teachers PDF: https://brightpathforpets.com/brighthaven-way-book/ 📖 Download the PEACEFUL Quality of Dying Guide: Signs of a Peaceful Passing at: https://brightpathforpets.com/resources-html/ 📖 Walking The BrightPath: A Pet Parent’s Guide To Home Hospice And Natural Transition - https://brightpathforpets.com/blog/pet-hospice-guide 📖 Soul-Centered Care: Seeing Pet Death Differently A BrightPath TRANSITION Series Booklet - https://brightpathforpets.com/soul-centered-care-booklet/ 🌹 Join our monthly Rose Ceremony (free online pet celebration): https://brightpathforpets.com/rose-ceremony/ 💬 If this episode touched your heart, you’re not alone. One of the first signs that something is changing with an aging or ill pet often shows up at the food bowl. Maybe your pet is eating more slowly, turning away from foods they used to love, losing weight, or skipping meals altogether. And if you've ever stood in your kitchen worrying about whether your pet ate enough today — this episode is for you. In this conversation, Karen and Gail explore one of the most emotionally loaded aspects of pet caregiving: feeding. Because for most of us, feeding our pets is one of the primary ways we show love. So when that changes, it doesn't just create worry — it can bring fear, guilt, helplessness, and grief. But here's what Karen and Gail want you to know: nourishment is so much bigger than what's in the bowl. In this episode, you'll hear: Why Karen and Gail chose the word nourishing over feeding — and what that distinction means for how we care for our pets through illness What a change in your pet's appetite is really telling you, and why it's about more than food How Gail adapted feeding for hundreds of animals at BrightHaven — from elevated plates to napkins on beds to "waitress service" for pets who couldn't come to their bowl The difference between assisted feeding and syringe feeding, and how to know when you've crossed the line from helping into forcing Why flexibility is one of the most important caregiving skills you can develop — and how to follow your pet's lead when what worked yesterday no longer works today The role of regular blood work in staying ahead of changes in your pet's needs How the LIVING Quality of Life Care Assessment tool can help you observe and track what's really happening across all six dimensions of your pet's well-being — not just food and water What Gail's experience accompanying her own mother through the end of her life taught her about appetite, decline, and letting go Gail's one piece of advice for every caregiver standing at the food bowl, worried: be kind — to your pet, and to yourself This episode is the companion conversation to Karen and Gail's newest BrightHaven Caregiver Academy eBook, Nourishing Through Illness: Supporting Appetite, Comfort, and Care for Pets with Life-Changing Diagnoses , available now at the BCA shop at BrightPathForPets.com. Whether your pet has a chronic condition, a difficult diagnosis, or is simply showing the signs of aging, this conversation will help you move from worry and frustration to greater confidence, flexibility, and peace of mind. 💜 📌 Related Resource: 📖 Nourishing Through Illness: Supporting Appetite, Comfort, and Care for Pets with Life-Changing Diagnoses - brightpathforpets.com/nourishing-through-illness 📖 The Pet Legacy & Lifetime Care Planning Workbook - brightpathforpets.com/pet-future-care-planning-workbook 📖 The BrightHaven Way: Lessons from 700 Animal Teachers PDF: https://brightpathforpets.com/brighthaven-way-book/ 📖 Download the PEACEFUL Quality of Dying Guide: Signs of a Peaceful Passing at: https://brightpathforpets.com/resources-html/ 📖 Walking The BrightPath: A Pet Parent’s Guide To Home Hospice And Natural Transition - https://brightpathforpets.com/blog/pet-hospice-guide 📖 Soul-Centered Care: Seeing Pet Death Differently A BrightPath TRANSITION Series Booklet - https://brightpathforpets.com/soul-centered-care-booklet/ 🌹 Join our monthly Rose Ceremony (free online pet celebration): https://brightpathforpets.com/rose-ceremony/ 💬 If this episode touched your heart, you’re not alone. When your pet receives a serious diagnosis, the first thing that changes isn't the caregiving — it's you. The language your vet uses, the fear that rises before you even leave the clinic, the way you begin to see your pet differently — all of it shapes what comes next. In this episode, Karen and Gail explore why the words we choose matter, and what our animals can teach us about living fully in the middle of uncertainty. In This Episode Karen Wylie and Gail Pope unpack the thinking behind BrightHaven Caregiver Academy's term "life-changing diagnosis" — and why it was chosen over more commonly used phrases like "life-threatening" or "life-limiting." Drawing on Gail's decades of experience at BrightHaven Sanctuary, they explore how fear shapes a caregiver's response to difficult news, how animals model a kind of effortless acceptance that humans struggle to find, and why seeing the being within — rather than focusing on the physical condition — may be the most important shift a caregiver can make. In This Episode You'll Hear: Why "life-changing diagnosis" reframes the experience for both pet and caregiver — and why the language we use from the very first moment matters How Gail's years of caring for 80+ sanctuary residents shaped a different relationship with diagnosis — one grounded in presence rather than fear What animals consistently model for us about adapting, adjusting, and continuing to live fully despite physical limitations Why fear of our own mortality is often at the root of how we respond when our pets receive difficult news Gail's closing reflection on seeing past the physical body to the being within — and why that shift changes everything about how we give care 📌 Related Resource: 📖 The Pet Legacy & Lifetime Care Planning Workbook - brightpathforpets.com/pet-future-care-planning-workbook 📖 The BrightHaven Way: Lessons from 700 Animal Teachers PDF: https://brightpathforpets.com/brighthaven-way-book/ 📖 Download the PEACEFUL Quality of Dying Guide: Signs of a Peaceful Passing at: https://brightpathforpets.com/resources-html/ 📖 Walking The BrightPath: A Pet Parent’s Guide To Home Hospice And Natural Transition - https://brightpathforpets.com/blog/pet-hospice-guide 📖 Soul-Centered Care: Seeing Pet Death Differently A BrightPath TRANSITION Series Booklet - https://brightpathforpets.com/soul-centered-care-booklet/ 🌹 Join our monthly Rose Ceremony (free online pet celebration): https://brightpathforpets.com/rose-ceremony/ 💬 If this episode touched your heart, you’re not alone. What does it really mean to care for a seriously ill pet when nothing feels certain? If you're living with an aging or ill animal right now, you already know this feeling. You wake up not knowing what the day will bring. You go to bed wondering if tonight is the night. And all the while, you're trying to hold your fear at bay, stay present with your pet, and make decisions you'll be able to live with. In this episode of Peace of Mind for Pet Parents, Karen Wylie, EdD, and Gail Pope sit down for an honest, deeply personal conversation about one of the most emotionally challenging parts of pet hospice care: learning to live — and love — without guarantees. In this conversation, Karen and Gail explore: Why uncertainty feels so overwhelming when you're caring for a sick pet — and why that's completely normal How animals naturally teach us to live in the present moment, even when our minds race toward the future What pet hospice care actually asks of us emotionally — and why most of us have never practiced it before The role euthanasia plays in our need for certainty, and why choosing hospice is not about giving up How to make end-of-life decisions for your pet with a whole heart — and find peace with your choices Why "learning to love without guarantees" may be the most profound gift your pet's final chapter offers you Gail shares what decades of caring for hundreds of animals at BrightHaven Sanctuary taught her about presence, acceptance, and releasing the need for control. Karen reflects on how her own caregiving journey shifted from analytical problem-solving to something far more soul-centered — and why that shift changed everything. Together, they explore the honest truth that so many pet caregivers feel but rarely say aloud: we live in a culture that wants answers and wants certainty — and hospice asks us to lay all of that down and simply be with the animal we love. This episode is for anyone who has stayed up at night worrying about their pet, anyone who has struggled with when to "do more" versus when to let nature lead, and anyone who wants to approach the end of their pet's life with love, intention, and as little regret as possible. 📌 Related Resource: 📖 The Pet Legacy & Lifetime Care Planning Workbook - brightpathforpets.com/pet-future-care-planning-workbook 📖 The BrightHaven Way: Lessons from 700 Animal Teachers PDF: https://brightpathforpets.com/brighthaven-way-book/ 📖 Download the PEACEFUL Quality of Dying Guide: Signs of a Peaceful Passing at: https://brightpathforpets.com/resources-html/ 📖 Walking The BrightPath: A Pet Parent’s Guide To Home Hospice And Natural Transition - https://brightpathforpets.com/blog/pet-hospice-guide 📖 Soul-Centered Care: Seeing Pet Death Differently A BrightPath TRANSITION Series Booklet - https://brightpathforpets.com/soul-centered-care-booklet/ 🌹 Join our monthly Rose Ceremony (free online pet celebration): https://brightpathforpets.com/rose-ceremony/ 💬 If this episode touched your heart, you’re not alone. If something happened to you tomorrow — not someday, but tomorrow — do you know exactly who would step in for your pet? Do they know what your pet needs? This is the question most pet parents have never fully answered. And it's the one this episode is built around. Most of us have a vague plan. Maybe a family member once said they'd take the animals. Maybe there's something in the will. But as Karen and Gail explore in this honest, practical conversation — vague isn't enough. A will goes through probate and can take weeks or months to act on. A trust funds your wishes but doesn't describe them. And the person who said "I'll take them" may have no idea what caring for your diabetic dog, your fear-reactive Aussie, or your cat who only takes her pill one specific way actually involves. The gap isn't legal or financial. It's caregiving knowledge — and right now, it lives entirely in your head. In this episode, Karen introduces the newly completed Pet Legacy & Lifetime Care Planning Workbook — the first resource of its kind developed entirely from the caregiver's perspective. Karen and Gail explore: — Why planning for your pet isn't just about death — hospitalization, surgery, rehab, and family emergencies leave pets just as vulnerable — Why a will, a trust, and a verbal promise from a family member are not enough on their own — What Gail learned from decades of taking in animals who arrived at BrightHaven without their stories — Why the most important information about your pet isn't medical — it's personal — How to document routines, preferences, quirks, and care needs in a way that anyone could follow — Why pets who are medically complex or behaviorally sensitive especially need a written plan — How to keep the workbook current as your pet's life and needs evolve This episode is for you if you've ever asked: — What would actually happen to my pet if I were hospitalized tomorrow? — Isn't it enough to put my pet in my will? — Who would know how to care for my pet if I couldn't be there? — How do I make sure whoever loves my pet next really knows them? 📌 Related Resource: 📖 The Pet Legacy & Lifetime Care Planning Workbook - brightpathforpets.com/pet-future-care-planning-workbook 📖 The BrightHaven Way: Lessons from 700 Animal Teachers PDF: https://brightpathforpets.com/brighthaven-way-book/ 📖 Download the PEACEFUL Quality of Dying Guide: Signs of a Peaceful Passing at: https://brightpathforpets.com/resources-html/ 📖 Walking The BrightPath: A Pet Parent’s Guide To Home Hospice And Natural Transition - https://brightpathforpets.com/blog/pet-hospice-guide 📖 Soul-Centered Care: Seeing Pet Death Differently A BrightPath TRANSITION Series Booklet - https://brightpathforpets.com/soul-centered-care-booklet/ 🌹 Join our monthly Rose Ceremony (free online pet celebration): https://brightpathforpets.com/rose-ceremony/ 💬 If this episode touched your heart, you’re not alone. If you've ever searched for hospice care for your pet and walked away feeling like it wasn't really what you were looking for — you were right. Something has gone quietly wrong with the word hospice in the animal care world. And in this episode, Karen Wylie, EdD and Gail Pope sit down to name it. When students in the Animal Hospice Group's advanced certification program (animalhospicegroup.com) started researching hospice services at veterinary clinics in their communities, they came back frustrated. Almost universally, what clinics were calling "hospice" turned out to be something else: a quality of life evaluation followed by a conversation about euthanasia. The middle — often months of meaningful, comfort-focused living — was missing entirely. In this honest, wide-ranging conversation, Karen and Gail explore: — What the word hospice was always meant to mean, and when it began to lose its way — Why true hospice care begins at diagnosis, not in the final days or weeks — How the veterinary model has quietly redefined hospice as an end-of-life pathway rather than a philosophy of living — What body, mind, and spirit care actually looks like for a seriously ill pet at home — Why integrative veterinarians are often the most natural allies for families seeking real hospice support — The "missing middle" — and what pet parents lose when months of genuine comfort care are skipped — How to hold space for both natural death and euthanasia without being pressured toward either Gail also shares what changed her own mind about the word hospice — she once wanted nothing to do with it — and why she now believes that teaching hospice as a philosophy of living, rather than a protocol for dying, could transform the way families experience their pet's final chapter. This episode is for you if you've ever asked: — Does hospice mean my pet is about to die? — What is the difference between a quality of life assessment and real hospice care? — Why can't I find a vet who offers actual hospice support? — How do I give my pet the living part — the middle part — before it's too late? 📌 Related Resource: 🔗 Episode 052: The Missing Middle: Why Animal Hospice Is Rarely Offered — and How to Ask for It 🔗 Episode 034: When Palliative Care Becomes Hospice: Knowing When to Shift Gears 🔗 Making the Case for Animal Hospice: Why Hospice Care Matters for Pets and Families 📖 Animal Hospice Group: animalhospicegroup.com 📖 The BrightHaven Way: Lessons from 700 Animal Teachers PDF: https://brightpathforpets.com/brighthaven-way-book/ 📖 Download the PEACEFUL Quality of Dying Guide: Signs of a Peaceful Passing at: https://brightpathforpets.com/resources-html/ 📖 Walking The BrightPath: A Pet Parent’s Guide To Home Hospice And Natural Transition - https://brightpathforpets.com/blog/pet-hospice-guide 📖 Soul-Centered Care: Seeing Pet Death Differently A BrightPath TRANSITION Series Booklet - https://brightpathforpets.com/soul-centered-care-booklet/ 🌹 Join our monthly Rose Ceremony (free online pet celebration): https://brightpathforpets.com/rose-ceremony/ 💬 If this episode touched your heart, you’re not alone.
