Fresh off our Nocpix thermal night in store, we dragged Tim from Groundforce upstairs, hit record and hoped for the best. Rusty was running late, nobody was officially hosting and the lights cut out halfway through. So yeah, a pretty standard episode. Tim has worked with most of the big thermal brands. He gives us his take on why Pulsar fell behind the Chinese brands and which Nocpix model is outselling the rest by a mile. He also explains why the look of a thermal sells it more than people like to admit, and how firmware updates are keeping people loyal to a brand. Then he tells us about the time he was dropped in a tree stand in a Polish forest at night by a guide who spoke no English. There were badgers, there were wolves, and nobody told him when he’d be picked up. To wrap it up he explains how he just got his solo skydiving licence, and we work out which of us is never jumping out of a plane.

Episode 42 is a full debrief on our first go at the Royal Adelaide Show. That’s nine days in one tent, a very different crowd to a gun show, and a lot of lessons learned. We cover the tent we paid for and weren’t allowed to use, how 15 torches on the stand turned into 200, and the customer return that ended with Mark getting the exact torch he’d been eyeing off. We also get into some of the more creative reasons people gave for wanting a thermal (aliens made the list), why UV torches are great for finding opals and fake cash, and what happens when you take a 55 metre ride on the Warrior during your lunch break. Then we look ahead to SHOT Show in Vegas, with go-karts, Top Golf and some serious debate over which supercar to take for five laps.
