I can hardly believe we have already reached the Equinox, yet it comes with such relief for my animal body. The turning of time, the descent of the Sun in the Northern Hemisphere. & Welcome to Spring for my friends in the South! On Tuesday evening, the Sun will enter Libra and this great spirit will hold us in the balance of equal day and night. I speak a lot about the more esoteric expression of Libra as the one who initiates us into descent, and the rites of that process required to know both darkness and light within all things. On Saturday, Sept 26th, we have a powerful Full Moon in Aries. This lunation packs quite an energetic punch, and encourages us to expand our capacity for risk in service to the visions we hold within. The bravery of the fool, indeed. The Full Moon peaks at 12:49pm EST on September 26th. Luna will be conjunct Neptune Rx in Aries, which holds equal invitation to let ourselves dream bigger and get a little delusional, as a treat. I recommend making space for visioning work on Saturday if you can, as there’s a lot of potential here for clear insights to come through. The luminaries will also be aspecting both Pluto Rx in Aquarius, and Uranus Rx in Gemini. All of the big players that have been bringing swift change are signaling something during this lunation. Again, if you can, make space to notice what truths emerge in its wake. Luna will also be in mutual reception with Mars in Cancer, inviting us to trust our instincts and allow the divinatory wisdom of our emotions to guide us. This is a time for shaking up the container of what we think we know, and getting curious with what lives beyond the edges of our comfort zone. All decisions require risk, and create a ripple in the field of karmic action that returns to us tenfold. The other option is to resign ourselves to passivity, which is in and of itself a choice that creates a similar effect in our field. REMEMBER: COURAGE IS ALWAYS REWARDED. A moment of clarification, distillation, discerning what is most essential for us to take with us into the future of our path unfolding. The Virgo New Moon peaks on Thursday, September 10th at 11:27pm EST. This lunation is occuring at 18* of Virgo, in the second decan ruled by Venus. This is the work of the ancient priest who knows the importance of dying well. It is the honoring of life by way of honoring death. It is preparing to give ourself proper death rites, as a means of honoring everything that has led us to this moment — also knowing that we cannot take everything with us into the Great Below. It is Inanna removing a layer of her ceremonial garb as she makes her way through each of the seven gates, into the Great Below. It is a process of distilling the teachings down to their very essence. It is holding vigil, allowing the silence to speak multitudes. It is devotional presence as medicine. How are you faring out there? Have you been utterly rearranged? Not quite sure which way is up yet? Good, stay with it. I personally feel really moved by how potent this Eclipse season has been, and continues to be. It feels as though we’ve been able to traverse multiple timelines within this soul’s journey, sift through the teachings of each and find our way into alignment with that which is most suited for the path ahead. I am traveling thru Salish Land / Washington State to visit one of my teachers for a week, and she said something yesterday that struck me; “When you receive a calling, you must follow it. And remember that when you receive the Call, nothing is never as it seems.” There is an immense wisdom AND courage required to follow this instinctual nature, to the point where we trust in it so deeply that we need not understand where it’s taking us. We simply follow it and trust the path ahead. I have been working quite a bit with this animal nature, the wolf-like being that resides within. The first chapters of Women Who Run With Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes feels like an extremely timing guide for these waters. In my experience, the wisdom of Pisces can guide us in this. The secret of this trust - or dare I say, faith - is an intimate understanding and EXPERIENCE of the interconnectedness of All Things. When we know in our bones that every movement on the path is in chorus with some greater pulse, as the beat of the World’s Heart, we find our place in the greater family of things with ease. We trust in endings and beginnings, that death is a doorway, and our felt sense of this continuity can guide beyond reason. That is Faith, to me. The Tarot Card that corresponds to the Decan where the Eclipse is occurring is the 8 of cups. The image itself feels entirely fitting to meditate on as we welcome the teachings of this final eclipse in Pisces… Enjoy, my friends. The wake of the Eclipse left me ragged, in need of resource. I have been returning to drink from the well of the practices that nourish me, which has often looked like waking up before sunrise to sit and listen to the dawn chorus. Drinking Lotus tea, practicing subtle movements of Gong Fu, tracing the contours of my field in quiet contemplation. The animal body must move slowly to integrate the big changes that are here. The biggest message I received this past week was that with expansion comes equal + opposite contraction, and we must expand our capacity for the big energy that is taking root in our system. If our circuits are fried, that becomes nearly impossible to integrate. The technology of our animal body, the intelligence of this vessel, IS the container where any energetic change will occur. May we create the conditions for that to be enriching + deep. Our nervous system is the circuitry, and our mind is the tabula rasa. Regulating the animal body and clearing the mind are ways to prepare this vessel for whatever process is underway. So, I wanted to share a practice with you that I do every morning, to anchor this into my being. The recorded meditation is a foundational practice from a private cohort of beloveds who have undertaken the study of traditional witchcraft together. (Which I have jokingly referred to as Barbault’s coffin in the title because I thought it was a silly and somewhat true correspondence)! To be honest with you friends, I’m not so interested in surgically examining the exact aspects of this configuration. As I sense the energy in the collective field and lean back into my Ancestors, there’s a real sense of a need to FEEL our way through this, rather than think or intellectualize. So much of what’s happening is subliminal; tectonic plates shifting beneath our feet, our animal bodies sensing the undercurrents of change emerging. The sense has been; stay present, curious, open — and try not to collapse into the stress of so much energy flooding the collective at once. Against vignettes of smoky skies and ecological disruption, I cannot help but feel like the impacts of this Astrology are occurring right before our very eyes. The invitation is not to look at all the Fire in the skies and on Earth to say “w ell, I guess this is how it is ”, but to allow those conditions to mobilize us into more conscious participation. What is our responsibility amidst all of this, as Ancestors ourselves? Perhaps that is just my own daily locus of curiosity, but I can’t help but feel like the true change must first occur within, for any of its impacts to be expressed outside of us, too. My own personal take: Feel your F*cking Feelings. Let yourself actually be moved by this moment. Do not go numb in the overwhelm. Disassociating on instagram due to the overwhelm of ecological grief is not going to be very helpful. Most importantly, find ways to effectively channel all the BIG emotion that is most likely moving through your animal body into something that can help it transform. The only way is through. I hope you are faring well out there, genuinely. Wrapped inside this little care package is a ritual + tarot spread to support your New Moon renewal. This New Moon is curious; the luminaries will converge at 21* of Cancer, not exactly aspecting anyone else. Mercury Rx will have just passed over the Sun, so we revel in the afterglow of the Cazimi with this Lunation. It feels like a breath, the space between inhale + exhale. An opportunity to clear something. This week also brings the opening aspects of Barbault’s Basket, the configuration of outer planets that hasn’t happened for hundreds of years. The planets involved are all in Air + Fire signs, so the theme of ignition continues to amplify. What does wind do to fire? It fuels the flame. The French Astrologer (André Barbault) who identified this configuration predicted that it will be the impetus for massive international change. So we can only hope; our work is in becoming the active participant in this process. I have felt more so recently, that in order to become such an agent of change myself, I must do the work of releasing old models about myself and the world that actually serve as barriers to true participation. The old stories, the wrought patterns, all that inhibits my ability to actually respond to The Call. I feel this Cancer New Moon is a moment to do exactly this; clear the path from within. Hello beloveds. How we doin out there? Each day has felt like a lifetime, which is usually a sign of some serious tectonic plates shifting in time/space reality. Lots of change underfoot, a constant tide to swim amidst. This doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad nor stressful thing, but of course it all depends on how we choose to relate to it. I’m taking notes on that daily. As I sat down to record the podcast this week, there was a really clear sense that I needed to zoom out and see beyond the Astrology itself. To get the whole picture, I ended up doing a lot of divination and this reading is the result of that. Lots of helpful messages came through that were good medicine for me to take in, and I’m hopeful they are for you too. The first 2/3 of the podcast is mainly divinatory messages, and the latter third is the astrology of the week ahead. At a high level; Neptune stations retrograde, Venus enters Virgo and immediately passes over the South Node who is currently conjunct the Fixed Star Regulus. Lots of power there. Let me know how it lands, I’m genuinely curious if it resonates! In Other News… This Summer I’ll be teaching a Course on Animism + Earth Reconnection through Ancestral Medicine. This was the first course I had taken with Daniel Foor before joining the organization as a practitioner almost 7 years ago, so it’s a huge honor and full circle moment to be the Lead Teacher for this class. We will talk about the many-faceted dimensions of Animism both in theory and praxis, discussing how to embody these Earth-Honoring Ethics in our walk. Lightning strikes Earth and starts a fire that we must tend wisely, lest it fry our circuits with its powerful awakening. Recalibration might be needed at a nervous system level to be able to handle the energy these planets are bringing into the collective body, the circuits alive with potential energy. Here’s the high-level look at the week ahead; * Tuesday, June 9th : Jupiter-Venus conjunction 25* Cancer ~ this double-whammy benefic energy is an opportunity to harvest the merits of a year-long exaltation for Jupiter, and all that has been accumulated in the Cancer part of our chart. Be fair warned; this energy is an amplifier for whatever stands in it’s line of vision, so give extra attention to what you’d like to receive the Miracle Grow efforts of Jupiter’s grace. Jove can be indiscriminate with where that expansive quality is directed, so our work is in being very clear + precise about what it is we’re hoping to grow with all of that accumulated energy. * Procyon is also in the fold of this Benefic conjunction, which gives the enthusiastic self-starter energy + protection over our workings. The challenge is in helping those efforts sustain long-term gains, rather than short-term gratification. Stay with it. * Friday, June 12th: Uranus in Gemini squares the Nodes at 2* (Virgo/Pisces axis) ~ this energy affords us stunning, surprising insights that strike like lightning. And yet, our circuits might not be ready to hold the full reality of those visions. If anyone did the very Jupiterian ritual from last week , I’d love to know how it felt! I certainly feel it’s a practice I could stand to incorporate more often, beyond once a year! The week ahead is pretty docile, marked by Mercury’s ingress into Cancer and an initial square with Neptune in Aries. My hope is that this transition affords us a bit of settling, after a very BUZZY few weeks with Uranus’ entrance into Gemini joined by Mercury. The entrance into more Cancerian energy is likely to soften the conditions just enough for us to be able to drop into the heart and let the body’s wisdom guide. The realm of felt-sense, memory, intuition ~ right on schedule. I decided to talk a bit about the month ahead at a high-level this week, as June holds some pretty important moments of resource before heading into the second half of the year. I likened it to a pit stop in the middle of the desert, an opportunity for us to recuperate and prepare for the next leg of this wild adventure. The reminder from the spirits at the end of the reading was; “there’s so much you can’t see ahead of you”, and it was intended as a very encouraging perspective shift, to buoy amidst uncertainty. Perhaps you found one over the last few days! This week holds some growth edges, leading up to a big beautiful Full Blue Moon in Sagittarius next Sunday May 31st. The week ahead covers all of the astrology right through next weekend, to properly prepare for the Full Moon’s illumination. And, because it’s occurring in the wee hours of the night on Turtle Island, so Saturday night ceremonies are in order. Beloveds, the tides continue to turn by the day. I have heard many reflections during readings with folx over the past week that the change is getting to be intense, uncomfortable, disorienting. So much kindness to this. May we catch the current that brings us into deeper rhythm + pulse with the transformation at hand. There are multiple planets shifting sign territories this week, which I hope will bring a much needed shift into the cooling, soothing qualities of the Earth + Water element. There has been oh-so-much heat, dryness, agitation. These are the conditions needed to start a fire, yes. And, they’re not super sustainable long term, lest we burnout sooner than later.
