There is no better confirmation that training works than Sam's (aka globerunnergriff) journey. He went from 125kg to a 2:22 marathon in 3 years, driven by grit and consistency. We go into his training from the early injury-riddled days of starting out, then pushing through and building up the mileage over time. NB: Sam's been a kaizen user for over a year primarily tracking progress trends, although he'd NEVER fine tuned his predictions. So whilst his progression is an accurate, the final numbers are off (which is mentioned). We dialled everything in after the recording. If you want to see a pro's training and prediction data in kaizen, then check this one out. Jimmy Whelan joins us to analyse his training from his 61:37 HM debut in Valencia 2025, and also dive into the training data since then for some of his other performances on the roads in 2026. We compare the data between some of his more impressive training blocks over the past 12 months, and some of the key themes that keep popping up when he's in his best shape. Michael and Josh dissect their performances at the unbearably hot 2025 edition of the Berlin Marathon over the weekend. Both of them well off where they wanted to be given the conditions. Just under 3 weeks out from Berlin, and Michael's had a minor niggle. Josh's training is still on the up, although he's also had to pare it back slightly. 2 big weeks of training to go and they are neck and neck in fitness terms. Neither is full convinced of getting in 2:28 shape, but they're both keen to go head to head. After discussing training and shape, Josh gives an overview of how he manages his training on a daily basis to mitigate the risk of getting injured, whilst also Michael gives an overview of how he is proactively managing his calf niggle, with the main objective being getting to the start line healthy. -- Kaizen Download the app Strava club Website Instagram Michael Josh

Felt rude not to acknowledge our favourite race distance of 26.2 miles, so we've put together a special episode to celebrate the marathon. Deserves to be treated with respect. We celebrate the good, bad and ugly of our collective 40 or so marathons. Blood, sweat and tears all feature in some way throughout. Lots of lessons learnt with the myriad things that can go wrong, where the marathon has put us in our place. A few positive takeaways as well. That's why we love it, and keep coming back for more. We spoke with Dan Robinson, a 2:12 marathoner who ran for GB in the 2000s. His notable achievements include a bronze medal at the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games marathon, top 25 at both the Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 Olympics, a 9th in the 2007 London Marathon and an 11th and 12th place at the World Championships. Dan tells us how he got into running accidentally, his love of the treadmill, and how he educated himself on training. Very refreshing to hear from someone who — at the top of their game — trained hard, without too much emphasis on the specifics. -- Kaizen Download the app: https://kaizen.app.link/milesbetter Strava club: https://www.strava.com/clubs/runkaizen Web: https://runkaizen.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/runkaizen/ Michael: https://www.strava.com/athletes/32067191 Josh: https://www.strava.com/athletes/1721750
