The dog days are over! It's September and Juan Soto is back. Oh, it's so good to see him. He is being delusional and he is wearing a Lisa Frank-style multi-hued neon leopard-print cap. Diva! Love you. This week on Hits Different, Dave and Kait say farewell to Luis Robert Jr. and welcome back to Swaggy V, who, as you may recall, conveniently broke his hand 1 week before the trade deadline. Our Mets! We're going to miss them so much. But WHO will be rooting for in the play-offs? We have some initial feelings but actually, I think we're open to pitches from the audience. Let us know who you will be cheering for (unless you will be cheering for the Phillies, Dodgers, Yankees, or Braves, which you should keep to yourself). Write to us at hitsdiffpodcast@gmail.com Let's go Mets! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
We're without Dave this week, so it took 10 tries to turn the microphones on. Next week we'll be without Ellen, but plus Dave, and I'm sure we'll struggle with something else (probably our senses of style and joie de vivre). And the following week we'll be getting the band back together! Just letting you know so you can put it in your calendars. Coincidentally we ended up with reviews of Fenway Park and Yankee Stadium this week, so there's something for everyone even if you are a Yankees fan listening to this podcast (my mom). How did I (Kait) end up being the only one who had to eat the fish taco egg roll? Let's go Mets! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Apologies for the lateness of this pod, we had a small communication problem and Producer Nathan was unable to get into the files for several days. For my (Kait's) part, I have no idea what was discussed as I was out of town attending a gorgeous wedding in New Hampshire (with Producer Nathan and his cohort of North Carolina athletes). I'm going to guess Carson Benge was mentioned (angel!!) and Dave says there was discussion of Nate Lavender's warm-up song "Lavender Haze." I have no idea whether Ellen was brave enough to eat day-old "San Diego" themed fish taco egg roll. I can't wait to listen and find out!! Short one because they missed me, I assume. We'll be back soon with a full-lengther. Let's go Mets!!!! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
These Mets are not the same Mets they were a week ago—we have any number of random men to meet and to visit on David's Hometown Dates. Also, now that their season is so decidedly in the toilet, the Mets are stress-free, living large, and having a great time. BRETT BATY FIRST CAREER GRAND SLAM. Ellen, Kait, and Dave vaguely recap two weeks of baseball and discuss the Mets' new closer Kodai Senga, their new power-hitter Luis Torrens, and the semi-cancellation of a Mets prospect who briefly forgot about David Wright. No egg rolls were eaten in the past two weeks while we were on vacation, but Kait had about 500 croquettes in España, where she met just one person in a Mets hat and he didn't seem to know what the Mets were (the colors simply matched his barista uniform). If you can believe it, there are only 6 weeks left of the regular baseball season, and then what will we do? We'll miss these guys every single day. LGM!! Hosted on Acast. This week on Hits Different, we answer the mailbag question that we attempted to answer last week before a technical problem intervened. Sorry!! We also learn why the sky is blue—thank you Listener Matteo. We're entering the dog days of summer, but that's okay. And soon, a bunch of our beloved Mets will be taken from us and redistributed throughout MLB, hopefully to teams we can bring ourselves to root for down the stretch. Do not send Tyrone to the Philadelphia Phillies!!! David Stearns I will find your house!!! PROGRAMMING NOTE: We're taking next week off to process the trade deadline together. (Actually Kait and Producer Nathan will be honeymooning on the continent.) We'll be back the following week to introduce all of the 19 and 21-year-olds who are soon to be New York Mets. LGM! <3 Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
On the way to the beach and no time to write a description for this episode. Um, the Mets beat the Phillies at their home. But only God knows what's in store for the rest of this cursed summer. Let's go Bart! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Ellen is the bravest woman in New York City, and she ate the clam chowder egg roll. About half of this week's Hits Different is about that—what else would you like us to talk about? The sick fools calling for the Mets to trade Francisco Lindor? They are going to hell and it's not polite to discuss that!!!! Just a few weeks after the Heat Emergency episode, Ellen, Dave, and Kait are forced to bring you the Wildfire Smoke episode. If we're inappropriately cruel about Bryce Harper, just know that we were prepared to pull this episode down if he perished of smoke inhalation during Thursday night's game. Send us questions about baseball and send us stories about your favorite minor league ballparks that we should add to our bucket lists—hitsdiffpodcast@gmail.com Let's go Mets? The Mets won two games in Atlanta, both of which were normal. Then they came home and lost a game to Kansas City in a way that was perfectly normal. "When you meet a girl you don't start kissing her right away"—how many people talk about their relationships with their married coworkers. Dave, Ellen, and Kait are back in the regular studio (different room of Kait's apartment) and talking about the upcoming trade deadline (eek!) and the new Women's Professional Baseball League (sick!!). Poor Jared Young got a game-winning RBI on a hit-by-pitch and poor Matt Seelinger... that's it. Poor Matt Seelinger. There's just no way you can stop watching this baseball team. Let's go Mets!! Guys it is so hot!!!! This week on Hits Different, we're podding from floor. It was too hot to pod in our "studio." We're talking about Carlos Mendoza getting fired (kind of, I think we actually skimmed over that a little), Steve Cohen popping off on a podcast in an unproductive fashion, and how HOT it is. Juicy report on mascot culture from Listener Mark. Let's go Mets? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
This week on Hits Different: We didn't know that Carlos Mendoza was going to be fired when we recorded!!! So we don't talk about that. Instead, Ellen, Dave, and Kait discuss the first time that every member of the Mets infield committed at least one error in the same game since 1962. A wonderful historical achievement. The Mets also gave up more than 50 runs in a week, allowed Bryce Harper to hit for the cycle, watched Kyle Schwarber hit 3 bombs in an hour, and raised Dansby Swanson's OPS by 60 points in four days. They traded David Peterson to the Cubs. He's surely happy to go. Anyway, happy Pride!!! Let's go Mets... Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Welcome back to Hits Different!!! Sorry for taking a week off—we were all getting married. We're back and talking about the past 12 Mets games, all of which we remember with perfect clarity. Ellen has TWO egg rolls to review. Kait has a Citi Field Game Day Experience TM to review. When you get to the part where David is recapping the history of the Mets's Triple-A team and the New Orleans Baby Cakes come up please click this link to see the horrible mascot we're talking about. When you get to the David's Hometown Dates segment please click this link to see the horrible flag we're talking about. Let's go Mets!! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The Mets vanquished all of their demons by sweeping the Miami Marlins at home, and then they flew out to the Pacific Northwest to be a little embarrassing again. Mark "Swaggy V" Vientos responded to criticism by saying "I have to give myself props." This week on Hits Different, Ellen, Kait, and Dave report from a dank cave to talk about the pitchforks that are out for Swag, the lore behind the fake stat "game-winning RBI," the ethics of gambling and the ethics of having a 40-year-old ballboy who is dealing drugs to the players. Send us questions, we love them!!! hitsdiffpodcast@gmail.com Let's go Mets! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Ten years ago this week, Mets manager Terry Collins begged for one more chance to try to kill Chase Utley—and you know what? He was right. This time on Hits Different, David breaks down an iconic moment in Mets history. Also, Kaitlyn reveals another irritating feminist stance she has been stewing over, and Ellen receives some thrilling information in a voicenote from Listener Thalia. We talk a bit about the 2026 New York Mets as well, but there's only so much we could say about what happened in Miami. You gotta believe! LGM! Send us questions at hitsdiffpodcast@gmail.com!! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
We were so back, then it was so over, then we were so back again, and then it was a little bit over. And next? Who knows! This week on Hits Different, Ellen and Dave recap their first Subway Series experience, and we get into conspiracy theories about why the Mets briefly gave Gary Carter's number to new Baby Met Nick Morabito. (Morabito has since switched to #55, in honor of Dicky Lovelady and/or Ryne Stanek.) The Yankees broke Clay Holmes leg and I had to see Brett Baty strike out on the side of a hotel in Times Square. But then Tyrone Taylor broke the Yankees and Brett Baty hit a home run into a dumpster. Francisco Lindor may be back in June! Who is your all-time favorite Met? Great question from a young listener this week. Let us know who yours is! Email us questions or stories at hitsdiffpodcast@gmail.com Let's go Mets!! Hosted on Acast. This week on Hits Different, we're discussing the Mets' 5-4 road trip out West. At moments, the boys we love were bopping. At others, we were watching guys we had never seen before in our lives commit defensive errors resulting in runs. On Mothers' Day no less. David Stearns caught an attitude in his latest press conference and SOMEONE (no idea who) leaked an incredibly awesome thing that Pete Alonso said to his face in 2024. We're in about the 5 millionth chapter of this nerd-vs-jock narrative, and in this one it is Pete who is coming out looking like the hero. But who knows? Next week that could change. Just kidding—Pete forever!!! Let's go Mets <3 Send us your questions at hitsdiffpodcast@gmail.com. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The Mets have been out west in the SNOW. They've scored some runs but they've also entered a "fluid" shortstop situation. They've decided not to fire their manager, but this announcement has done nothing to tamp down the utterly hysterical discourse about whether they should fire their manager. This week on Hits Different, we discuss David's new membership in the Society of American Baseball Research and Ellen's latest adventure with Citi Field egg rolls. Kait went to visit Pete at Yankee Stadium. We were a little all over the place, and near the end I think we talk about CIA intervention in Latin America for longer than made sense. We're still waiting to find out how we feel about the Mets this year. Anything could happen! Carson Benge could win Rookie and Cutie of the Year!! Let's go Mets <3 Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The Mets won a baseball game, ending their worst losing streak since last week. But then they lost again. Everyone else's managers are fired. Swaggy V is back on the market. Citi Field has sprung multiple leaks and Ellen's parents were drenched. This week on Hits Different, Ellen, David, and Kait talk about another wonderful week of New York baseball. The Mets are off on a nine-game road trip and we will miss them!!! Let's go Mets. (Feebly) Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
This week on Hits Different, we're talking about the Amazins' amazing 12-game losing streak, their longest since 2002. On Wednesday night, the streak finally ended, but at what cost? Francisco Lindor is now in a walking boot due to a calf strain so severe that he refuses to even look at the imaging. He hasn't looked down at his leg at all, actually. He doesn't want to know!!! How are you feeling about the Mets? It's sort of a weird time, because of course we all saw a Baty Bomb (not discussed in this episode) on Thursday night, but we also saw Craig Kimbrel. We saw the streak end, but it was with two narrow victories over a team that (with respect) has no aspirations to accomplish anything this year. We saw Francisco Lindor wince and we screamed. The one thing we are sure about is that the Minnesota-themed Hot Dish egg roll was GREAT. Two thumbs up. Ellen's most enthusiastic review so far (out of the two she has done). The one other thing we're sure about is LET'S GO METS. Send us questions at hitsdiffpodcast@gmail.com — send via voice note if you wish! We would love that. Let's go Mets!!! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Many horrible things have happened. It's 90 degrees in April. We're without David. We're sweating. We're upset because the Mets won't stop losing. You would think at some point they would win because of a fluke, but they haven't. This week on Hits Different, Ellen and Kait mostly discuss their physical and emotional discomfort. Brett Baty is the only qualified hitter left in MLB who has yet to record a walk, and we were there to see him almost record one but then have it taken back by ABS. (I, Kait, am now anti-ABS.) Three Mets struck out on 10 pitches in the 9th inning of a one-run game even though only 2 of those pitches were in the strike zone. We received a surprisingly moving and delightful voice note from an avowed Atlanta Braves fan? Nothing's right. Everything's wrong. Jared Young is having knee surgery! We'll probably go to every single game when the Mets get back to New York. We should be with them in their darkest hour. Let's go Mets! Write to us at hitsdiffpodcast@gmail.com Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Obviously when we recorded this episode and we said "the Mets have yet to see a game slip away because of the bullpen" the Mets had yet to see a game slip away because of the bullpen. They did so about 12 hours later. C'est la vie! This week on Hits Diff, Dave and Kait are missing Ellen, who is in Guatemala, and Juan Soto, who is in an ice bath probably. We miss them equally! Kait tried to fill in for Ellen's egg roll review segment but it didn't hit the same. It hit different (derogatory). Come back, Ellen!! And come back, Juan!! And come back, Double Play David Peterson?? Will you?? Though the Mets are sweet and kind and gentle, a lot of other baseball players were fighting or talking about fighting this week, so we spent some time thinking about our favorite baseball brawls and why baseball brawls are so great. Please send us your questions and links to YOUR favorite baseball brawls at hitsdiffpodcast@gmaill.com—send as a voice note, if you will, so we can play them on the show! Also, please send us your recommendations for Mets bars. Dave and Kait were randomly attacked by "Trivia Night" while trying to watch the boys at a local pub last night and we can't have that happen again. Let's go Mets!! Hosted on Acast.
