Winston Ramble is the best rock band you may not have seen or heard as of yet, and you should get on that. From Northwest Alabama, these players have been laying down original rock and roll tracks, and have put out several singles and EP's, showcasing their musical talents. They have an incredible range, and it is reflective in their music, and in the covers that they put out as 'Heaters'. We discuss their musical influences, talk about their rigs, and discuss the resurgence of Bluegrass and Jam Grass. We also talk about their numerous albums, EP's, and singles - and discuss the current state of the music industry from an artist's perspective. The guys expand on their desire to continue playing genuine musical performances, and how the industry has changed in the new era of social media. We talk about some of their favorite venues to play, before putting the guys on the spot with their 'desert island album picks'. Go check them out in Huntsville, AL on 5/30 - this is a band you do not want to miss. Thanks guys! It was a pleasure to meet you - and I can't wait to see all of you real soon! It was truly a pleasure to sit down with one of my favorite musicians and storytellers. If you've been in the music 'scene' as long as I have, you came to understand the powerful musicianship of Cameron Williams over his lengthy music career. This was a special episode - and I am happy to share it with you! We take a trip down memory lane as we discuss other bands that were prominent on the Athens, GA (and southeast more broadly) music scene, and talk about working with John Keane, his friendship with Eric Carter, Eric Martinez, Betsy Franck, Sam Holt, and others. We chat about his songwriting process, and where he finds inspiration to write and perform. Cameron talks about 'SCAM' (Sam and Cam) performances at the Moontime Market and elsewhere, and gives a sneak-peek into an upcoming Home Team BBQ 20th anniversary show this fall that will feature a powerhouse of musicians, headlined by Paul Cauthen. Happy to share a conversation I had with new friend of the show - Maya Thatch! Fresh off of the Phish Sphere shows, we discuss her love of Live music, which comes in the form of Phish and Goose, among others. We discuss growing up in California, and her subsequent move to the mid-west for college, and eventual move to her new home of Colorado. We dive into a brief meeting she had with Rick Mitarotonda, her trip to Viva El Gonzo in 2025, the transformation of Goose with the addition of Cotter after the departure of Jeff and Ben, and what inspired her to become a social media influencer with dance videos over Jam music. Happy to introduce you to Priscilla Tofte - new friend of the show - and our new personal Somatic Breathwork practitioner. Hailing from her new home in Asheville, NC - we had a post-weekend-visit interview to talk about her life, her professional work as a Life Coach and Wellness professional. We discuss growing up in Portland, ditching her corporate career for a more centered Life that grew out of a friend's recommendation to take up a career as a Life Coach, and discuss our session this week in which I got to explore somatic breathwork. It was a fantastic session, and I really look forward to the next! In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, we also discuss the Trump administration's plan to fast-track the research, review, and approval of psychedelic 'drugs' for treating a number of mental health conditions. Still a lot of roadblocks to that end, but we discuss the potential impact that the new treatment options would have for a broad set of use cases. We also discuss what led her to start the Facebook group - Climb to Safety - which provides a safe space for people to give and receive love of all kinds. Climb to Safety marks its 7th anniversary this year, and Priscilla also hints at plans to take Climb to Safety to the broader community, outside of the digital world of Facebook. So excited to share with you all my conversation with Curtis Cockrell. Curtis is the Merchandise Manager for Trey Anastasio Band and Greensky Bluegrass, the sometimes Merchandise Assistant for Phish, and an advocate and interventionist at Intervention 180. Perhaps his greatest passion is his role as Father to his two wonderful children. I was enthralled with his story - as I searched the internet for podcasts about addiction and recovery. As you’ll hear in the episode, he’s had an incredible journey, and I have great admiration for his hard work and dedication toward becoming the man he is today. A truly inspiring life story. We discuss his addiction and recovery journey, and I selfishly picked his brain on that subject, as well as on fatherhood. We of course talk music - and how he became who he is professionally to a couple of our community’s favorite musical acts. Thanks for tuning in - and thank you Curtis! Hailing from Rockville, Maryland and calling Denver, Colorado home, Eric Martinez is a guitarist in the rock/jam band world and a fixture of the local Denver Music Scene. Having been a member of multiple touring acts over the years, Eric has earned a reputation as a hired gun and polished music professional. Whether he’s onstage or in the studio, Eric’s precision and laser focus elevates most any act or project. His musical acumen and his demand for perfection keeps him high on people’s lists. In short, Eric is a musician’s musician; a player’s player; an artist’s artist. Eric’s diverse range of talents allows him to acclimate to most any musical setting. Whether engineering and producing a bluegrass track for Jojo Herrmann (Widespread Panic) in his studio or shredding solos on stage with Portland’s Jerry Joseph & The Jackmormons, Eric is renowned for his ability to instantly add energy and prowess to the stage. However, it’s his songwriting on his newest solo effort You Know Why I'm Here out now plus his collaborations with other musicians like John "Jojo" Hermann, Jerry Joseph, Daniel Hutchens, Todd Nance, Eric Carter, Josh Stack, and Tori Pater that has set him apart from other guitar slingers. Eric sings, writes, produces, engineers and plays lead. His instincts for the instrument have been honed by his professionalism, work ethic, and standing alongside the best of the best, year after year. He’s not limited by tone or genre, scene or style. He's in for it all!. It was truly my pleasure to sit down with Eric to learn about his incredible life journey. Every now and again I get to sit down with an artist that helped define a genre, and this conversation with Matthew McDonald from Perpetual Groove was one of those opportunities. I consider P-Groove to be Athens, GA royalty, with their reach spanning the entire globe. His energy as a person and musician is palpable, and I hope you enjoy this interview as much as I enjoyed partaking in it. We discuss Matt's life journey, how Perpetual Groove was formed, and dig into a number of topics that were of immense interest to me. I learned a lot about audio engineering/recording - with this being my first introduction to 'The 5 T's'- we discuss Matt's health journey that includes his dedication to yoga, breath work, and sound/vibrational healing. He also shares information about upcoming P-Groove shows this fall, a sneak peek into plans for a 25th anniversary show, and touch on his upcoming release of his new album. Stay tuned to their socials and website for an Atlanta NYE show at Terminal West. Plenty of other interesting topics that I was lucky enough to get his perspective on - so please give a listen and let us know what you think about the episode!
