This week, Angus is joined by former Paralympian turned endurance athlete David Wetherill. Born with multiple epiphyseal dysplasia, a condition affecting bone development, David went on to become an elite Class 6 para table tennis player, representing Great Britain at three Paralympic Games: Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016. You may have seen David without even knowing his name. At London 2012, he produced one of the most iconic moments of the Games — an incredible diving table tennis winner while playing with a crutch, a shot that went viral around the world. But David's sporting story didn't end with the Paralympics. We kick things off with some of the biggest sports stories, including: Yomif Kejelcha's incredible 56:51 half-marathon world record. Britain's Matthew Brennan taking another victory at the Vuelta a España. Tadej Pogačar continuing to show his class. The Seattle Seahawks reportedly being sold for $9.6 billion. Jakub Menšík and Karolína Muchová winning the US Open mixed doubles title. Controversy surrounding the Sydney Marathon medals. Plus the latest from Formula 1 at Zandvoort. Then we get into David's remarkable sporting career. We discuss how he first found table tennis, what took him from picking up a bat to representing Great Britain on the biggest stage in para sport, and what life was really like as an elite Paralympic athlete. David takes us through the decision to step away from table tennis and the difficult question that followed: what comes next when the sport that has defined such a huge part of your life is suddenly gone? The answer eventually became endurance sport. We talk about: David's journey from discovering table tennis to becoming a three-time Paralympian. The story behind his famous viral shot at London 2012. Why he eventually stepped away from elite table tennis. Finding a new sporting identity after retirement. Why he was drawn towards endurance sport and pushing his physical limits. His journey into HYROX and being named Inspirational Athlete of the Year. Taking on full-distance Ironman triathlons. Completing the 3.8km swim and 180km bike in incredibly tough conditions. The reality of attempting an Ironman twice without reaching the finish line. How David approaches setbacks, competition and challenges that might appear impossible from the outside. We also get some grievances off our chests in another edition of Grinds My Gears, including people taking up the entire pavement with umbrellas, questionable FAGE yoghurt consumption, gym farting etiquette and the frustration of being asked how many sets you have left when you're already on your final one. To finish, David's sporting knowledge is put to the test. From Paralympic table tennis and HYROX to the London Marathon and the history of Ironman, we find out how much a man who has competed across these worlds actually knows about them. This is a conversation about elite sport, identity, failure, adaptation and what happens when you're forced to find a new challenge after spending years competing at the highest level. 🎙️ Hosted by Angus Cook, with special guest David Wetherill 📸 Follow David: Instagram https://www.instagram.com/wetherill.para.fit/ 🎧 Listen Everywhere: https://linktr.ee/mindsets_podcast 📸 Follow MindSets: MindSets Podcast https://www.instagram.com/mindsets_podcast/ Angus Cook https://www.instagram.com/anguscook/ TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@mindsets_podcast 📩 Business Enquiries mindsetspod@gmail.com 🤝 Official Partners Hystyle Clothing https://www.hystyleclo.com Use code MINDSET15 for 15% OFF #MindSetsPodcast #DavidWetherill #Paralympics #Paralympian #ParaTableTennis #TeamGB #HYROX #HYROXTraining #Ironman #Triathlon #Endurance #EnduranceSport #London2012 #AdaptiveAthlete #HybridAthlete #Mindset #Resilience #SportsPodcast #FitnessPodcast
We Tried to Pick the Greatest Sporting Moment Ever WAIT...We made it to Episode 100!? Before anything else, a huge thank you to every person who has watched, listened, shared or supported The MindSets Podcast. Whether you’ve joined us for one episode, discovered us somewhere along the journey or somehow made it through all 100, you’ve helped us reach a milestone that once felt impossibly far away. For this special episode, Angus is joined once again by Roscoe Carter-Johnson from the Diet Starts Monday Podcast—with Charles missing the centenary celebrations—to tackle one enormous question: What is the greatest sporting moment of all time? There’s no news, no Grind My Gears and no game this week. Instead, Angus and Roscoe go sport by sport through some of the most iconic, emotional and unbelievable moments the world of sport has ever produced. The debate includes: ⚽ The Miracle of Istanbul, Sergio Agüero’s title-winning goal, Lionel Messi finally lifting the World Cup, England’s Lionesses winning the Euros and Tottenham’s dramatic 2008 League Cup triumph over Chelsea. 🏈 Malcolm Butler’s Super Bowl interception, Marshawn Lynch’s legendary Beast Quake and Tom Brady completing the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history from 28–3 down. 🏏 England reclaiming the Ashes in 2005, Ben Stokes’ extraordinary unbeaten 135 at Headingley and the unforgettable 2019 Cricket World Cup Super Over. 🏃 Usain Bolt’s 100m world record, Roger Bannister’s four-minute mile, Paula Radcliffe’s marathon world record and Eliud Kipchoge becoming the first person to run a marathon distance in under two hours. 🏎 Lewis Hamilton winning his first Formula One World Championship on the final corner of the final lap. 🎾 Andy Murray becoming Wimbledon champion. 🏊 Julie Moss crawling towards the finish line at the 1982 Ironman World Championship in Kona. ⛰ Jasmin Paris becoming the first woman to finish the Barkley Marathons—with only 99 seconds remaining before the 60-hour cut-off. ⛳ Tiger Woods’ iconic chip on the 16th at the 2005 Masters, his incredible comeback victory at Augusta in 2019 and Rory McIlroy finally completing the career Grand Slam. Some moments changed a match. Others changed an entire sport. Some produced almost impossible performances under pressure, while others became unforgettable because of the emotion, perseverance or cultural impact behind them. But which one deserves to be called the greatest sporting moment ever? Angus and Roscoe bring their own nominations, debate the listeners’ suggestions and attempt to reach a final answer in this special centenary episode. How ROXFIT Built a HYROX App with 500,000+ Users | Joey Allott & Ben Wilson This week, Angus is joined by ROXFIT founders Joey Allott and Ben Wilson to uncover how a single text message became one of the world’s fastest-growing HYROX and hybrid-fitness apps reaching more than half a million users in under two years. Before meeting the boys, we break down another wild week in sport, covering the biggest stories from tennis, the European Athletics Championships and football. We also discuss Mark Dowdle’s extraordinary Last Soul Backyard Ultra victory after running for almost four days. Then we dive into the ROXFIT story: the original problem Ben and Joey wanted to solve, how they transformed an early idea into a real product and what it took to grow the platform at such incredible speed. We also get an exclusive look at the exciting next chapter: ROXFIT Ultra. This new premium offering will give hybrid athletes deeper insights into their training and race data, allowing users to compete against themselves and the wider ROXFIT community, analyse their performances and receive intelligent race predictions, pacing targets and actionable performance insights. After this week’s Grind My Gears, Joey and Ben face our HYROX challenge. How well do the founders of ROXFIT actually know the HYROX rules—and can they remember their own race performances? If you’re interested in HYROX training, race-day pacing, performance analytics, fitness technology, startup growth or the future of hybrid racing, this episode is for you. 🎙 Follow Joey, Ben and ROXFIT ROXFIT website and ROXFIT Ultra: https://roxfit.app/ Download ROXFIT on the Apple App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/roxfit/id6476465403 Download ROXFIT on Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.roxfit.app ROXFIT Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/roxfit.app/ 🎙 Follow and Support MindSets Listen elsewhere: https://linktr.ee/mindsets_podcast MindSets Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mindsets_podcast MindSets YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@mindsets_podcast MindSets Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5SEejjwgNTIAsJO7c56T0b MindSets Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-mindsets-podcast/id1727225675 Angus: https://www.instagram.com/anguscook TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@mindsets_podcast Hosted by Angus Cook. 👕 Official Partners Hystyle (@hystyleclo) Hysoxs (@hysoxs) PodiumChasr (@podiumchasr) Get 15% off your order using code: MINDSET15 SEO Keywords: ROXFIT, ROXFIT App, ROXFIT Ultra, Joey Allott, Ben Wilson, HYROX app, HYROX training app, HYROX race tracker, HYROX race predictions, HYROX performance analysis, HYROX pacing, HYROX rules, hybrid fitness, hybrid racing, fitness technology, sports startup, workout tracking, Garmin HYROX, Apple Watch HYROX, Mark Dowdle, Last Soul Ultra, backyard ultra, European Athletics Championships, sports news, MindSets Podcast. #ROXFIT #ROXFITUltra #HYROX #HYROXTraining #HybridFitness #HybridAthlete #FitnessTechnology #SportsTech #RaceDay #RacePacing #PerformanceAnalysis #WorkoutTracking #GarminFitness #AppleWatchFitness #BackyardUltra #MarkDowdle #EuropeanAthletics #SportsNews #MindSetsPodcast
Welcome back to The MindSets Podcast! With Charles still away, Angus is joined by his partner Amy for an episode all about one of the most talked-about, and heavily marketed, parts of modern nutrition: Protein. We kick things off with the biggest sports stories of the week, including: LeBron James going to play for the Philadelphia 76ers. UK Sport pulling funding from British snowsports. A roundup of the Commonwealth Games. Nike releasing a new hybrid training and HYROX shoe. Plus more news from across the sporting world. Then we get into the main topic: How much protein do you actually need—and are high-protein products worth your money? We break down how the body uses protein, why exercise is essential for building muscle and what happens when you consume more protein than your body needs. We also discuss: UK protein recommendations versus the needs of performance athletes. How protein supports muscle growth and recovery. Whether your body can use more than 30g of protein in one meal. Why the post-workout “anabolic window” is largely exaggerated. The benefits of spreading protein intake throughout the day. How protein can support fullness, fat loss and muscle retention. Protein’s effect on hunger hormones and GLP-1. Whether protein could become the next major weight-loss marketing trend. The difference between “source of protein” and “high protein” claims. How collagen and different protein sources affect the headline number. The environmental impact of producing protein. Why protein powder has become so expensive. Angus also introduces his simple Protein 10 Rule for assessing whether a protein product offers good nutritional value: Multiply the protein by 10 for the calorie limit. Divide the protein by 10 for the maximum price in pounds. For example, a product containing 20g of protein should ideally contain no more than 200 calories and cost no more than £2. It isn’t a perfect nutritional formula, but it provides a quick way to compare protein bars, yoghurts, cereals, snacks and ready meals without being distracted by the marketing on the packaging. We also share our favourite protein snacks before another edition of Grinds My Gears , featuring online deals appearing immediately after you have already ordered, the relentless UK heat, the confusing name “full-fat Coke” and gym TVs taking over the speakers when everyone would rather hear music. To finish the episode, Amy takes on a blind taste test with a difference. She tries a selection of meals and snacks and has to decide whether each one is a specially marketed protein product or the normal version. Expect some surprising comparisons, questionable flavours and very honest ratings. Whether you’re trying to build muscle, lose weight, improve your sporting performance or simply stop wasting money on overpriced protein snacks, this episode will help you look beyond the headline protein number. 🎙️ Hosted by Angus Cook, with special guest Amy 🎧 Listen Everywhere: https://linktr.ee/mindsets_podcast 📸 Follow MindSets: MindSets Podcast https://www.instagram.com/mindsets_podcast/ Angus Cook https://www.instagram.com/anguscook/ Charles Ingell https://www.instagram.com/chucks_life_/ TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@mindsets_podcast 📩 Business Enquiries mindsetspod@gmail.com 🤝 Official Partners Hystyle Clothing https://www.hystyleclo.com Use code MINDSET15 for 15% OFF Chapters 00:00 – Angus & Amy Introduce the Episode 01:35 – Sports News: LeBron, Snowsports, Commonwealth Games & Nike 05:26 – Protein: How Much Do You Actually Need? 38:40 – Grinds My Gears 55:10 – Protein Food Blind Taste Test #MindSetsPodcast #Protein #HighProtein #ProteinFoods #SportsNutrition #MuscleGrowth #WeightLoss #FitnessNutrition #ProteinPowder #HYROX #HybridTraining #SportsScience #NutritionMyths #GymNutrition #Podcast
