Episode Summary I thought what I was experiencing was just motherhood. In this solo episode of Since I Became a Mother , Taylor shares the raw story of her experience with postpartum depression and postpartum anxiety, what it actually felt like from inside her own head, the symptoms she didn’t recognize at first, and how easily anxiety, hypervigilance, intrusive thoughts, sleep deprivation, breastfeeding, hormonal changes, and identity loss became tangled up with what she assumed was simply the reality of being a new mother. This episode puts the mother at the center of the postpartum mental-health conversation. Taylor shares when she began realizing something wasn’t right, what finally led her to seek help, what treatment and recovery have looked like, and what she wishes she had understood before becoming a mother. This episode includes discussion of postpartum depression, anxiety, and intrusive thoughts. It reflects personal experience and is not a substitute for professional mental-health care. Episode Summary Becoming a mother changed more than I ever expected. I spent so much time preparing for pregnancy, birth, and bringing home a baby—but I wasn’t prepared for how profoundly motherhood would change me . In the first full episode of Since I Became a Mother , I’m sharing my own story: who I was before motherhood, my birth experience, the difficult early postpartum months, postpartum depression and anxiety, severe sleep deprivation, exclusively breastfeeding, and the feeling that somewhere along the way I had lost parts of the person I used to be. I also share why I created this podcast, why Season 1 focuses so heavily on the first year of motherhood, and why every conversation this season comes from something I found myself searching for when I was a new mom. This isn’t a story about getting back to who I was before—it’s about figuring out who I’m becoming now. In This Episode Who I was before becoming a mother My birth story and the moment motherhood became real What the earliest postpartum months actually felt like for me My experience with postpartum depression and postpartum anxiety Sleep deprivation and the mental toll of being constantly “on” Exclusively breastfeeding and how consuming feeding can become Loving my baby deeply while still struggling Losing parts of my identity after becoming a mother How motherhood changed my body, relationships, work, ambition, and priorities Why “getting back to myself” stopped feeling like the goal What I spent my first year searching for and why I created this podcast Why Season 1 focuses especially on the first year of motherhood What I hope Since I Became a Mother gives other moms Connect With Taylor Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/taylorraeroman/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@taylorraeroman YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@TaylorRaeRoman ShopMy: https://shopmy.us/shop/taylorraeroman Amazon Storefront: https://a.co/d/0cNsmkdY Join the Community STRONG (As a Mother) Run Club: https://taylorraeroman.com/run-club Work With Taylor Partnerships, speaking & inquiries: https://taylorraeroman.com Disclaimer The information shared on Since I Became a Mother is for educational and informational purposes only and is not a substitute for individualized medical, mental health, or other professional advice. Thinking about getting pregnant? In this episode, we break down the basics of preconception health, why it matters, and how you can set yourself up for a smooth journey into pregnancy. In this episode, we talk about… Why preconception health is important Some basic statistics on TTC Key areas to consider and adjust in your life if you’re trying to improve your preconception health Understanding your cycle and fertility Male partner’s role in preconception health Emotional and mental preparation for TTC This is the first of 10 episodes in this season, and I’ll be deep diving into several of these topics in their own episode, but this is an initial overview. There is SO much information out there, so my goal is to synthesize it as much as possible so you don't have to do all of the reading and research that I did! Next week, I’ll be deep-diving into my own personal preconception protocol that worked amazingly well for me, so look for that one. I came to this information through reading several books and a lot of peer-reviewed research published in medical and scientific journals. On the website, I’ve linked all of the sources for this episode as always.
