This week's episode of The Driven Podcast is the last in the season before we take a short break through to Autumn, but fear not - it's a good'un! John Marcar is back in the Bentley Motors podcast booth at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed, and this week, he's joined by Alex Goy. While trying (and mostly failing) not to be distracted by many millions of pounds' worth of cars going up the iconic hill, John and Alex discuss the Jaguar Type-001, the Ferrari Luce, new Top Gear and... Alex reveals that he has a rather exciting new job at Drive Tribe. For the second week in a row, we owe a heartfelt thanks to Bentley Motors for hosting us for this recording on the Bentley stand at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed. _______________________________________________ The Driven Podcast brings you motoring-focused discussions, observations from the automotive world, and interviews exploring our guests' careers, exploits, and anything else worth discussing. 20 years ago, JCB, a company renowned for producing agricultural and construction equipment, shocked the world when it unveiled Dieselmax - a land-speed record car that shot to both fame and speed on the Bonneville Salt Flats in the USA, achieving the diesel land speed record of 350.092mph. Now, in 2026, JCB is back at it, only this time, Lord Bamford and his engineers want to set the record with Hydrogen power. The JCB Hydromax is the latest landspeed record car from JCB. Two 800hp hydrogen combustion engines power it, generating an overall power output of 1,600hp and a targeted top speed of over 350mph. Tom Beimish is the man largely responsible for JCB's hydrogen technology and has been an integral part of the Hydromax program. John Marcar speaks with Tom to find out how and why hydrogen is the future for JCB rather than diesel, hybrid, or electric power. Wing Commander Andy Green OBE is a former RAF fast-jet pilot who has spent the last 20+ years at the controls of fighter jets for the Royal Air Force. Now, he's stepping into the driver's seat of Hydromax to push the latest technology to the max and set a new world record. John sits down with Tom and Andy to discover more about this exciting project at a shakedown test at RAF Wittering. This week, on The Driven Podcast, John Marcar meets Tim Woolmer and Jörg Miska from YASA LTD in Oxford, England. In 2005, Tim Woolmer was studying at Oxford University, with a particular interest in the future of motoring, specifically the idea of an electric-vehicle future. His specific area of interest was the Axial Flux motor, and despite the industry being almost exclusively focused on petrol and diesel power at the time, his interest later led to the founding of YASA LTD in 2009. 17 years on, and following acquisition by Mercedes-Benz, YASA now produces electric motors for the likes of Ferrari, Lamborghini and Mercedes-Benz for both hybridised supercars and entirely electric platforms. In this week's episode, Tim (company founder and CTO) and Jörg (CEO) talk to John Marcar about their career histories, what YASA is doing today, and their thoughts on the future of the automotive sector. _______________________________________________ The Driven Podcast brings you motoring-focused discussions, observations from the automotive world, and interviews exploring our guests' careers, exploits, and anything else worth discussing. Charlie Martin is a professional racing driver who joins us for episode 2 of season 3 of The Driven Podcast. Charlie sat with Alex Goy and Charlotte Vowden in our dedicated podcast studio built by BMW at the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Charlie is best known as a professional driver with a fantastic story to share. Her love for motorsport started (as it did for many of us) with a strong interest in motorsport computer games, such as Gran Turismo, but didn't get a chance to drive a racing car until her early 20s. Charlie gives an honest account of the true challenges that come with getting started in motorsport, touching on the lessons of financial struggles, jumping in at the deep end, and realising at which point you might have bitten off more than you can chew. An additional chapter to Charlie's story is her journey as a trans driver without a clear support avenue for other LGBTQ+ drivers. Coming out in 2018, Charlie shares the brutal truths about telling her own truth whilst trying to compete at a professional level of motorsport. _______________________________________________ The Driven Podcast brings you motoring-focused discussions, observations from the automotive world, and interviews in which we explore our guests' careers, exploits, and anything else worth discussing. It’s taken us a little longer than we had initially planned; however, we’ve finally returned for season 3 with the first of three episodes recorded at the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed in a dedicated studio space build by BMW UK. In this episode, John Marcar, Charlotte Vowden and Alex Goy sit down together and catch up for a 45-minute chat about the legendary Goodwood Festival of Speed, the automotive world and fill in some gaps on what’s been distracting us all from recording podcasts so far in 2025. Talking topics for this episode include the Jaguar Type-00 Concept car, which we’ve all now finally seen! John Marcar enjoyed a BMW EV with 18,000 Nm of Torque, Charlotte has a BBC Radio Show, and Alex has an opinion on absolutely everything. This podcast can also be enjoyed in video form on the Driven YouTube Channel - youtube.com/@DrivenOnYouTube Special thanks to BMW UK for providing the space and to Patrick Whelan for live audio mixing and video capture. _______________________________________________ The Driven Podcast brings you motoring-focused discussions, observations from the automotive world, and interviews in which we explore our guests' careers, exploits, and anything else worth discussing.
