After four years of EV ownership, I thought I had a pretty good understanding of the electric vehicle experience. Then I took a trip through New England, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and rural Maine—and what I found completely changed my perspective. In some places, EVs were everywhere. Charging was plentiful, electric vehicles felt mainstream, and road-tripping was easy. In other regions, EV adoption was much lower, fast charging options were limited, and the ownership experience looked very different. In this episode of the Turn Down For Watt Podcast, we discuss the real-world EV ownership experience, the challenges and opportunities facing rural America and remote communities, charging infrastructure, DC fast charging networks, cold-weather EV travel, road trips, and the future of electric vehicle adoption. We also discuss why companies like PowerUp America are investing in underserved markets and what this means for the next phase of EV growth. This isn't a pro-EV or anti-EV discussion—it's an honest conversation about what EV ownership actually looks like in different parts of North America today.⚡ Topics Covered:• EV ownership after 4 years• EV road trips and long-distance travel• Rural vs urban EV adoption• Charging deserts and charging hubs• DC fast charging infrastructure• ChargePoint and FLO charging networks• Cold-weather EV ownership• Nova Scotia, PEI, New England, and Kentucky observations• Ford F-150 Lightning ownership• EV charging expansion• PowerUp America Kentucky• The future of electric vehiclesIf you enjoy content from Out of Spec, Everyday Chris, Gjeebs, Trucked Up EVs, Electric Duo, State of Charge, Miss GoElectric, Transport Evolved, Battery Life, The EV Geek, or other EV creators, you'll enjoy this discussion about the realities of electric vehicle ownership beyond the headlines.🎙️ Turn Down For Watt PodcastSubscribe for EV news, EV ownership experiences, charging infrastructure updates, Ford Lightning content, road trips, EV technology, industry analysis, and honest conversations about the future of transportation.👇 QUESTION OF THE DAY 👇Does your area feel EV-friendly, EV-neutral, or like an EV charging desert? How long does an EV battery really last? Dave's 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E has now surpassed an incredible 350,000 miles, making it one of the highest-mileage Mustang Mach-Es on the road today. In this episode of Turn Down for Watt, we revisit Dave to discuss EV battery degradation, battery health, charging habits, maintenance costs, reliability, and long-term electric vehicle ownership after hundreds of thousands of miles. When Dave first joined the show, his 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E Premium had already surpassed 250,000 miles, challenging everything many people thought they knew about EV battery life, electric vehicle reliability, and long-term ownership costs. Now, with another 100,000 miles added to the odometer, we wanted to check back in and see what has changed—and what hasn't. Can a modern EV really go 350,000 miles on its original battery? How much range has been lost? What maintenance and repairs have been required? What has ownership actually cost compared to a gas vehicle? And what lessons can EV owners, fleet operators, and EV skeptics learn from one of the highest-mileage electric vehicles on the road today? On today’s Turn Down For Watt Podcast, we dive into the controversy surrounding the Donut Labs battery and ask the big question everyone is debating: Is it truly solid-state, or is it overhyped marketing bordering on a scam? We break down what solid-state really means, how it compares to current lithium-ion tech from CATL, BYD, and Tesla, and why battery terminology matters more than ever.We also unpack Ford’s announcement that autonomy will arrive with its affordable universal EV platform in 2027, while examining the very real struggles Ford and the broader industry have faced with EV profitability. GM isn’t alone in this pain, reporting a $1.7 billion EV loss last quarter and announcing another $6 billion write-off, while Jeep quietly canceled two plug-in models. At CES, one of the most under-the-radar stories came from Geely, the parent company of Zeekr, Volvo, Polestar, and Lynk & Co. With models like the Zeekr Z, 001, and 7X, plus their “Golden Brick” ultra-fast charging battery, we explore what it would mean if Zeekr begins U.S. production in South Carolina within 24–36 months—and how far behind U.S. automakers may be if current pullbacks continue.🔗 Check out our channels for more EV content:➡️ BowefamilyEV Verge / Donut Labs : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9tfyA2g-kc&t=1s➡️ Two Bit Da Vinci : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8PjlwZVLVE&list=WL&index=4&t=846s➡️ Ford CES : https://www.ces.tech/videos/driving-tomorrow-democratizing-the-future-of-software-defined-vehicle-technology/➡️ Donut Labs : https://youtu.be/Y-aPS2AwMbc?si=yjn5QAM9taHU4IjD➡️ Turn Down For Watt Episode where Ford Pivots :https://youtu.be/PVfCQDafxiQChapters:00:00 - Intro01:55 - Donut Labs Solid State Battery03:00 - Two Bit da Vinci07:30 - Ford at CES 11:40 - Hands off Eyes off L314:30 - Electric Viking18:54 - Wrap up🔑Keywords (comma separated)Donut Labs, Donut Battery, solid state battery, CATL, Tesla, BYD, Ford EVs, GM EV losses, Zeekr, Geely, CES 2026, EV battery technology, Golden Brick battery, fast charging EVs, affordable EV platform, autonomy 2027, 🔥 Hashtags#donutlab #electricvehicles #catl #Tesla #byd #ford #gm #zeekr #geely #ces #evs

In this episode of Watts In The News, I break down why the latest Donut Labs and Ford announcements from CES may be widely misunderstood. With claims around solid state energy storage, autonomous driving, and comparisons to FSD, Tesla, and NVIDIA, the internet has been quick to label these developments as hype or even scams. YouTubers like Electric Viking have raised serious doubts, while others compare Donut Labs to battery giants like CATL, BYD, and LG — but are those comparisons even valid?I explain why Donut Labs’ technology may not be a traditional solid-state battery at all, but something closer to a carbon-based nano energy storage system — neither a classic SSB nor a supercapacitor. We also unpack Ford’s CES announcement on Level 2 and Level 3 autonomous driving, why it’s being incorrectly compared to Tesla’s FSD and robotaxi ambitions, and what Ford actually intends for its affordable next-gen EV platform launching around 2027.This episode cuts through the noise, explains the technology in plain English, and separates real innovation from unrealistic expectations.🔗 Check out our channels for more EV content:➡️ BowefamilyEV Verge / Donut Labs : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9tfyA2g-kc&t=1s➡️ Two Bit Da Vinci : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8PjlwZVLVE&list=WL&index=4&t=846s➡️ Ford CES : https://www.ces.tech/videos/driving-tomorrow-democratizing-the-future-of-software-defined-vehicle-technology/➡️ Donut Labs : https://youtu.be/Y-aPS2AwMbc?si=yjn5QAM9taHU4IjD➡️ Turn Down For Watt Episode where Ford Pivots :https://youtu.be/PVfCQDafxiQChapters:00:00 - Intro01:55 - Donut Labs Solid State Battery03:00 - Two Bit da Vinci07:30 - Ford at CES 11:40 - Hands off Eyes off L314:30 - Electric Viking18:54 - Wrap upComma-Separated KeywordsDonut Lab solid state battery, Donut Labs solid state, Verge Motorcycles, Verge electric motorcycle, solid state battery breakthrough, EV battery technology, solid state vs lithium ion, EV battery future, BYD battery technology, CATL solid state battery, LG Chem solid state, Samsung SDI battery, Toyota solid state battery, QuantumScape solid state, next generation EV batteries, electric motorcycle technology, EV charging breakthrough, end of gas vehicles, future of EVs, out of spec, Ford autonomous driving, Ford Level 3, CES EV announcements, Tesla FSD, NVIDIA autonomous driving, Electric Viking, CATL battery tech, BYD batteries, LG Chem, solid state EV batteries, carbon nano battery, supercapacitor vs battery, EV misinformation, CES 2026 EV newsHashtags#donutlab #solidstatebattery #tesla #evbattery #electricvehicles #EVTechnology#byd #CATL#LGChem#QuantumScape#FutureOfEVs#ElectricMotorcycles#BatteryBreakthrough#CleanEnergy#outofspec
