In the Europe and U.K., the consoles will cost roughly a third more than their current price across all models. In the U.S. the Xbox Series S 512GB model—the lowest-end of the Series family—is now an eye-watering $499.99, the same price the higher-end Series X launched at in 2020. In the U.K., the Xbox Series X 1TB with disc drive is now £669.99 (was £499.99) and in Europe, it's €799.99 (was €599.99). The Xbox Series X 2TB model has been discontinued entirely. In other news, Nintendo has announced a new Direct focusing on the upcoming Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave. The Nintendo Direct will premiere tomorrow, August 4th 7am PST. And finally, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has exceeded even the most bullish expectations in its opening weekend, making more than $360 million domestically, and a walloping $930 million worldwide. Globally, it sits just behind Avengers: Endgame as the best opening weekend of all time.

In today's Daily Fix:For years Resident Evil 5 has been the series' best-selling game, with a little over 19 million copies sold. Now the Resident Evil 2 remake has overtaken it, with around 19.75 million units. Across the entire series, the games have sold over 213 million copies worldwide. In other news, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is swinging toward a massive opening weekend domestically, with projections placing it in the $180-$190 million range. And that's among the more conservative estimates. And in related news, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is being updated with two new Spidey suits: one from Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls and another from Brand New Day.
In today's Daily Fix:The pushback from fans over Sony's decision to kill physical media in a couple of years could lead to a one-week boycott. The social media account, Does It Play?, is proposing a one-week 'economic and gameplay blackout' starting Sunday, August 23rd at 7pm local time. No signing onto PSN, no turning on your PS5, no playing Sony games on Steam, etc. The post is gaining traction on X, with more than 1 million views so far. In other news, the Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Final Fantasy XIV will take up a whopping 117GB of internal space. This will increase next year, when the latest expansion drops. And finally, the first major expansion for STALKER 2, titled Cost of Hope, will drop on August 20th, along with a free 2.0 upgrade.

In today's Daily Fix:A lawsuit aims to force Nintendo to share its tariff refunds to customers who bought a Switch 2. The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled some of President Trump's tariffs illegal, which means the extra fees Nintendo paid to ship the Switch 2 and other hardware to the U.S. could be returned. But Nintendo isn't required to pass those refunds on to customers. In today's Daily Fix:Director Christopher Nolan's latest blockbuster is sailing past box office expectations with a $264 million dollar global opening weekend. This exceeds Nolan's previous record-holder, The Dark Knight Rises, which earned $249 million on opening weekend in 2012. The Odyssey cost nearly $400 million to produce and market, but it might not have to go on a odyssey of its own to recoup that money. In other news, Ryan Reynolds has ideas for Deadpool 4, and believes he's done doing solo Deadpool movies. After Deadpool & Wolverine made over $1 billion in theaters worldwide, Reynolds and Disney probably want to team him up with as many heroes as possible. In today's Daily Fix:It's been almost nothing but bad news for Xbox and its subsidiaries ever since CEO Asha Sharma announced the great and terrible Xbox reset of 2026. But there is some silver lining to all of the chaos: Bethesda Studios head Todd Howard has announced a roadmap for the company's IP including Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, and Starfield. Confirmed are remakes of Fallout 3 and New Vegas, and the next mainline game, Fallout 5, is in development. But right now their biggest priority is The Elder Scrolls 6, which we've seen nothing of save for a teaser trailer back in 2018. In other gaming adjacent news, the God of War live-action series encountered a major setback when star Ryan Hurst suffered a torn bicep and will need to be recast. Apparently the recovery time will be too long and his 12-year-old co-star Callum Vinson will likely have aged noticeably enough for the footage not to match. And finally, we have this week's latest gaming releases.
In today's Daily Fix:Grand Theft Auto 6 went up for preorder a few weeks ago, and it's already sold $260 million worth of early purchases. According to analysts at Newzoo, the game is on track to hit between $3 and $5 billion dollars in the first week. Yes, that's BILLIONS of dollars in sales in Week 1. By comparison, GTA 5 made $1.15 billion in its first week at a lower price point than GTA 6 will be launched at. In other news, a player in AC Black Flag Resynced accidentally found the treasure in an upcoming in-game event, causing Ubisoft to cancel the event, while praising that player's treasure-hunting skills. And finally, an in-person Pokémon Go event in New York saw attendees sell their rare Mewtwos for thousands of dollars on eBay, much to the disgust of many fans.
In today's Daily Fix:Another casualty in the big Xbox reset of 2026 is reportedly an unannounced Halo multiplayer project. The game was in development at Certain Affinity, who is a support studio with credits on several other Halo and Call of Duty titles. Halo 5's Warzone mode was apparently an inspiration for the game, and was to be built in Unreal Engine, like the soon-to-be-released Halo: Campaign Evolved. In other news, Matt Reeves' The Batman Part 2 is being delayed to 2028 (!) which would make it about six years since Part 1 dropped in 2022. For comparison, all three of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight movies were released in a seven-year period. And speaking of Christopher Nolan, The Odyssey will be journeying to theaters this weekend, as well as in Fortnite. Skins for Matt Damon's Odysseus and Benny Safdie's Agamemnon will be available in the game starting tomorrow.
In today's Daily Fix:A report from ZDNet says Nintendo is already considering a Switch 2 OLED model, but is hesitant over the price. An OLED panel would be an improvement over the current Switch 2's LCD screen, but would cost more. The ongoing hardware component crisis is also a factor, which has forced Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft to raise prices on their current-gen consoles post-launch. In other news, fans may have criticized Ubisoft for their DLC plans for Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, but that didn't stop gamers from buying them. The company has made an extra $1 million on Steam from sales of the game's DLC items. And in related news, hundreds of employees across several studios are being laid off, including those at Ubisoft's support studio in Barcelona, which had worked on Black Flag Resynced.
In today's Daily Fix:Gamers are doing all they can to stop PlayStation from killing physical media, including appealing to the European Union. But according to the European Commissioner for Consumer Protection, the EU can't step in due to "commercial and contractual freedoms." Basically, Sony getting rid of games on discs in 2028 does not violate any member nation's laws or the EU's laws. In happier news, Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced sold two million units in a single day, and had the best concurrents of any AC title on Steam. And finally, Disney's latest live-action remake, Moana, barely tread water in its opening weekend. The movie brought in a global total of $100 million and is unlikely to break even against its reported $250 million budget.
In today's Daily Fix:Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced has debuted with a series-high 100,000 concurrent players on Steam. Although reviews have been very good so far, not everyone's happy. Many gamers are shocked at the amount of microtransactions, with some upset that they shelled out extra $$ for digital deluxe edition of what they assumed would be a content complete version of the game. Ubisoft has heard the complaints, but it's unclear if there will be any price adjustments or "make-good" for those who bought the digital deluxe edition. In other news, Call of Duty: Blacks Ops 1 and 2 have officially been ported to the PS4 and PS5, but don't expect a comprehensive remaster. The folks at Digital Foundry have found the games to be lacking in modern technical flourishes like 4K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate (the games are capped at 1080p60). In today's Daily Fix:Obsidian is reportedly ditching Avowed 2 to work on a new Fallout game. As part of Xbox's big reset, developer Josh Sawyer, who worked as lead designer on fan favorite Fallout: New Vegas, will head a team at Obsidian focused on the next Fallout. The last mainline game, Fallout 4, was released in 2015. However, Bethesda has released the MMO Fallout 76 and helped produce the acclaimed Fallout TV series for Prime Video. In related news, id Software was not spared in the big Xbox reset, with more than half of its full-time staff laid off. The developer was reportedly working on pitches for a new Perfect Dark game, among others. The team had also recently released the well-received Doom: The Dark Ages. And finally, morale at Bethesda is shattered in the wake of Xbox's recent mass layoffs, with the remaining developers saying it will have a "substantial and cascading effect" on The Elder Scrolls 6.
In today's Daily Fix:After Sony's bombshell anouncement that they would no longer release first-party titles on physical discs, many gamers took to the PlayStation Network webpage to unsubscribe from PlayStation Plus. But analysts say that even if hundreds of thousands of gamers unsubbed from PS Plus, it's a drop in the bucket to PlayStation's overall business model and would likely not persuade them to keep supporting physical media. In other gaming news, Bernie Sanders has taken aim at Xbox, posting on social media that the company's mass layoffs and hardware price troubles are more evidence that corporate tax breaks do nothing to create or even save jobs. And on a bittersweet note, Bungie offered a farewell gift for their Destiny 2 fans as a 'thank you' for years of support before formally ending major updates for the game.
In today's Daily Fix:In an interview with Bloomberg, Xbox boss Asha Sharma has admitted Game Pass was in a period of decline when she took over for former head Phil Spencer. But now they seemed to have stopped the bleeding, after dropping the price of the service and removing Call of Duty as a Day One title. Still, Xbox has admitted that the previous strategy of pumping money and resources into Game Pass has not paid off, and are now in the process of offloading some of the studios they've acquired to boost the service's value. In other news, Assassin's Creed: Black Flag - Resynced has already sold more in pre-orders than Ubisoft's other pirate game, Skull and Bones, has sold in its lifetime. And finally, IO Interactive has closed one of its studios—despite having a hit with 007: First Light—after Xbox funding for an upcoming game was pulled.
In today's Daily Fix:Xbox boss Asha Sharma sent an email to employees announcing a 'significant' restructuring of the company, citing losing "64 cents for every dollar invested" in their studios in an average year. Unfortunately 3,200 employees will be laid off, starting with 1,600 today and the rest to happen throughout Fiscal year 2027. Microsoft-owned studioss Double Fine and Compulsion Games will become independent studios, while others such as Ninja Theory and Undead Labs "have entered terms to join new ownership." Arkane Studios' management will enter into consultation with its workers council on next steps. No publicly-announced games are said to be cancelled as part of the reductions in workforce. In other news, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls has been blocked in 132 countries, likely due to Sony's PSN requirements, and PSN being blocked in specific territories. And finally, DC Studios' Supergirl has crossed $100 million at the global box office in its second week, and will likely not recoup its reported $170 million production budget (which does not include the massive marketing spend).
As the video game world digests Sony’s shock decision to kill video game discs on PlayStation consoles starting January 2028, analysts believe it sends a strong signal about the PS6 — including when it will come out.
