In Part 1 of our conversation, Jacob Bannon sits down with Stephen to trace the history of Cave In from the very beginning. They talk about Stephen's introduction to music, discovering guitar, his earliest bands, the formation of Cave In, and the New England hardcore community that surrounded them. They discuss Cave In's early years, Stephen joining Converge, the connections between the two bands, the making of Until Your Heart Stops, and Cave In's continued evolution through Jupiter, Antenna, Perfect Pitch Black, and the years that followed. The conversation also looks at the friendships and creative relationships that shaped Cave In throughout its history, ultimately leading to the passing of Caleb Scofield in 2018.
