Supernatural Recaps, Lore, & Laughs 🥂 Join SPN newcomers Berly and LA as they revisit the CW series episode by episode. From monster mythology and gore to Winchester thirst commentary, the hosts share what they adore, and what makes them laugh. Think of Denim-wrapped Nightmares as Supernatural Then and Now’s bratty little sister: irreverent, anything-goes commentary from two fans finding their way through the show. If you choose to drink, please drink responsibly. CW/TW: violent and lewd commentary; listeners beware. 18+. As a way to keep in touch during the 2020 pandemic, Berly and LA started podcasting with their debut, anything-goes talk show, The Tipsy Exchange. During those discussions, Berly and LA realized that they most enjoy talking humorously about TV/Film, mythology, suspense, and hot guys. A Supernatural podcast seemed a natural fit. It's a match made in heaven... or hell. You decide!

Supernatural Season 9, Episode 19, Alex Annie Alexis Ann recap 🧛 Sheriff Jody Mills (Kim Rhodes) is BACK, and she's protecting a troubled teen named Alex (Katie Sarife), who was raised by a nest of vampires and really, REALLY wants to go home, on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast. Mama bear Jody: activated. A deputy in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, picks up a teen runaway, and things go very wrong at the station. Jody calls in the Winchesters, and they quickly figure out Alex is a human kidnap victim who's been living with vampires since she was a little girl... and they're coming to get her back. While Jody hides Alex at a remote cabin, Sam and Dean track down the nest in O'Neill, Nebraska, learn exactly how the vampires have been using her, and discover that the vampire mom at the center of it all has her own tragic reason for keeping Alex. Meanwhile, Sam starts to notice that Dean is enjoying his work a little too much. Episode Highlights: Jody Mills, wonderful to see her as always The boys learning Alex isn't the victim they expected Vampiric Stockholm syndrome, as Jody puts it Dean at the wood chipper: "Need a hand?" (There was literally a hand.) The vampires' very dark use for Alex (it gets worse) Alex's years-old bite marks that just... vanish (one episode after the show joked about continuity errors) Dean's dead man's blood trick, and some very cool decapitations Dean's "look at me, bitch" moment that made us go WHAT Jody finally facing her own grief (growth!) Sam's worry about how much Dean is enjoying the kill (the Mark of Cain is no joke) In the lore segment, we revisit the vampire cure from Live Free or Twihard and dig into the real-life case of a man in Turkey diagnosed with clinical vampirism, whose insatiable craving for blood earned him a write-up in the journal Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics in 2011 and, according to a 2013 Smithsonian report, was eventually cured after two years of treatment. It's some of the darkest lore we've done. Your turn, hunters: Should Jody take in Alex? And how worried are YOU about Dean right now? Supernatural Season 9, Episode 18, Meta Fiction recap 🪽 Metatron (Curtis Armstrong) is writing the story now, and Gabriel (Richard Speight Jr.) is BACK... or is he? Berly and LA break it all down on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast. Metatron opens the episode at a typewriter in a smoking jacket and ascot, narrating his own story like he's God. And he kind of is now. Meanwhile, Dean is brooding in the shower (we needed more), Cas is on the road with his motel room and no wings, and a familiar face pops up on a Casa Erotica tape before appearing in person on Castiel's couch. Full body shots plus close-ups, interesting angles and lighting. Thank you, Thomas J. Wright! Episode Highlights: Metatron in the opening credits, and the jokes about continuity and retcons Gabriel looking right at the camera: Don't you need gas? (We should have known.) Dean getting some alone time with Gadreel (Tahmoh Penikett). Gadreel does not leave in good condition. Metatron fingering Cas with all of human pop culture, so Cas can finally get references Cas in a SUIT for about forty-five seconds before the trench coat comes back. The audacity. Sam and Dean's holy fire plan (how many rings did they make, just to be sure?) Curtis Armstrong clearly having the time of his life Hannah's I knew it! moment The story is FINALLY moving forward (thank you, Robbie Thompson!) In the lore segment, we dig into Gabriel's horn: how Gabriel became the trumpeter of Judgment Day in Milton's Paradise Lost, Armenian religious art, and spirituals like Blow Your Trumpet, Gabriel. Gabriel announces births and interprets visions, but when does he pick up the horn? Listen to the end to find out. "Bitch, please. You've been God more often than Dad has." – Gabriel (to Castiel) Your turn, hunters: Did the Gabriel reveal get you too? And would YOU blow the horn of Gabriel? Abaddon's Soul Farm, Josie Sands & How to Spot Someone With No Soul A schoolteacher comes home, her husband doesn't get up to help with the groceries, asks what's for dinner, and she makes meatloaf. Out of him. Honestly, Berly and LA have some thoughts about whose side they're on. This week Sam works the case solo while Dean drinks a whole bottle of whiskey with zero effect, lies to his brother about doing research, and pocket dials Crowley like a man with a problem. The case takes Sam to Milton, Illinois, where people are losing their souls at an alarming rate, a boy is stabbing people with a steak knife covered in mashed potatoes, and an absolutely fabulous elderly woman in a matching hat and brooch shows up at the police station to tell everyone it's demons. She is right. She is also a former nun with a 1958 flashback that finally explains how Josie Sands became Abaddon, and this episode was directed by Misha Collins, who was apparently too busy behind the camera to show up in front of it. The lore this week covers how to spot someone with no soul. Berly and LA read through the list and begin to get concerned. About themselves. Drop a comment with your thoughts, and if you're enjoying the show, a review helps other fans find their way to the bunker. See you next week. Jerk. Bitch. The First Blade, Men of Letters & the Real Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn Crowley is in a hotel room in silk pajamas, surrounded by drained bodies, eating pizza, and crying at sad movies. He is not okay. Nobody call hell right now. This week Sam and Dean track down a very compromised King of Hell, stage an intervention, drag him back to the bunker, and somehow end up in a magical invisible mansion run by the expelled Men of Letters master of spells who has a collection problem and thinks Dean would make a lovely addition to it. Also: Snooki shows up as a crossroads demon, the antiques curator at the National Institute of Antiquities is deeply unbothered by federal investigators (but hot-and-bothered by Dean Winchester), and the First Blade finally makes contact with the Mark of Cain. It does not go great. Berly also makes a case for the Sam and Crowley storyline that never happened, and she is right to mourn it. The lore this week covers the real Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, the Victorian occult secret society whose actual magical symbol ended up on the Men of Letters crest. It turns out the bunker's glorified book club has real world bones, and they are extremely dramatic. Drop a comment with your thoughts, and if you're enjoying the show, a review helps other fans find their way to the bunker. See you next week. Jerk. Bitch. Ghostfacers, Slender Man & the Internet's Darkest Urban Legend A teenage girl is taking selfies and there is something behind her with no face... and a receding hairline. Odd choice. This week the Ghostfacers are back! Ed and Harry roll up in their van chasing clout, filming crime scenes, and generally behaving in ways that have Berly and LA deeply conflicted about two characters they used to love. Meanwhile Sam and Dean are investigating what looks like a monster but turns out to be something far more human and far more depressing. The villains this week murdered people over a declined PTO and an unanswered date request, yet somehow that still isn't the most upsetting thing about this episode. The lore covers Slender Man: where he came from, why he works, and why this episode has almost certainly been quietly pulled from syndication. It started as a Photoshop contest in 2009. It did not stay there. Drop a comment with your thoughts, and if you're enjoying the show, a review helps other fans find their way to the bunker. See you next week. Jerk. Bitch. Kevin's Back, The Veil Explained & Castiel's Accidental Army The bunker is haunted, Dean is having a heart-to-heart with a coffee machine, and Kevin Tran has been stuck in the veil listening to a Winchester pity party. This week Kevin makes his return from beyond the veil with a mission, a message, and absolutely no patience for the ongoing brother drama. Sam and Dean head into the woods to summon a ghost named Candy using a radio EVP setup, track down Mrs. Tran from a demon-run storage facility, and deliver what might be the most bittersweet reunion of the season. The impossible hug situation is heartbreaking. Meanwhile Castiel pays a visit to Bartholomew's operation, which goes about as well as you'd expect, and somehow walks out of it with the beginnings of his own faction. He did not ask for this. Nobody asked for this. The lore this week covers the veil, the real spiritual concept behind the one keeping all those post-fall souls stuck, and whether the veil has been thinning since 2020. Spoiler: one wellness blog thinks so. Berly and LA have thoughts. Drop a comment with your theories, and if you're enjoying the show, a review helps other fans find their way to the bunker. Pishtacos, Pudding & the Monster Who Was Actually Doing Good This week Sam and Dean go undercover at Canyon Valley, a suspiciously effective weight loss retreat run by the sweetest monster they've ever had to shut down. Sam teaches yoga in a tank top. Dean gets assigned to the kitchen, steals some pudding, and sneaks away to eat it in a basement corner like a raccoon. Sheriff Donna Hanscom shows up on vacation and immediately becomes Berly and LA's new favorite character. The real villain turns out to be a very hungry, very disgruntled brother with a grudge and a body count. Also: the debate about whether to kill monsters who are living their best non-murderous lives comes up, again , and Berly has some feelings about how many times this show is going to make them have this exact conversation. The lore this week covers the real Andean legend behind the Pishtaco, which turns out to be rooted in genuinely horrifying colonial history. Garth Returns, Werewolf Cults & the Myth of Fenrir Garth is back. He killed a cow. And he got hit by a car. We have questions. Sharp Teeth reunites the boys with everybody's favorite lanky hunter, who has been MIA for six months and has some explaining to do. Turns out Garth got bit on a hunt, fell in love with a born werewolf named Bess, and joined a peaceful werewolf congregation run by a very sincere reverend with a very suspicious wife. Berly and LA are charmed by Garth and Bess, deeply skeptical of the stepmother from the jump, and mildly concerned about Sam Winchester's brain after yet another knock to the head. Meanwhile, Dean and Sam are technically working together but driving separate cars and absolutely not talking about their feelings. Progress. The lore this week covers Fenrir, the Norse wolf so catastrophically large and dangerous that the gods had to trick him into being chained up using a magical ribbon and one god's hand as a bargaining chip. He is currently down there waiting. Drop a comment with your theories, and if you're enjoying the show, a review helps other fans find their way to the bunker. See you next week. Cain, the First Blade & the Mark of Cain Explained It's 1863, Confederate demons are terrified, and a man with a jawbone and a leather jacket just kicked in a door. That's our cold open, and we are already locked in. Dean and Crowley hit the road together as the world's least likely hunting duo, tracking down the First Blade, the only weapon that can kill Abaddon. The trail leads them to a crotchety hunter named Tara (who shares way too much information about John Winchester) and eventually to a very charming beekeeper (who turns out to be the father of murder himself). Cain is retired, unbothered, and shucking corn while demons get their asses handed to them in the next room. Berly and LA are smitten, and they are not hiding it. Back at the bunker, Sam and Castiel are working on extracting the last traces of Gadreel's grace, and somehow a peanut butter and jelly sandwich becomes the emotional thesis statement of the episode. The lore this week covers the real biblical Cain: the first murder, the mark, the curse, and how the world's original problem child accidentally kickstarted urban civilization and the music industry. It tracks. Drop a comment with your thoughts, and if you're enjoying the show, a review helps other fans find their way to the bunker. See you next week. Crowley, Gadreel, & the Mark Begins A hunter's funeral, a rock star in pleather pants, and Crowley finally getting out of the dungeon. That's just the first fifteen minutes. Road Trip picks up right where the midseason finale left our broken little hearts. Dean is not okay. Sam still doesn't know what's been living inside him. And the only person with a plan to fix any of it is Crowley, which tells you everything about how bad things have gotten. This week Berly and LA break down the road trip to Somerset, Metatron lurking in a bar for reasons that may or may not be strategic, a very handsome angel named Abner who makes some deeply unfortunate life choices, and the moment Sam finally gets the full picture of what Dean did. Also: Castiel's new trench coat gets a formal review, Crowley earns some genuine tenderness from two people who should know better, and Abaddon finds out the hard way that hell is not a dictatorship. This week's lore digs into the real Aleister Crowley, the self-proclaimed Beast who founded his own religion, dabbled in occult secret societies, and inspired everyone from Neil Gaiman to Ozzy Osbourne. The reputation, as it turns out, is bigger than the man. Sound familiar? Drop a comment with your theories, and if you're enjoying the show, a review helps other fans find their way to the bunker. Supernatural production designer Jerry Wanek interview 🔭 The man who built the Men of Letters bunker (and one very beloved telescope) gives a tour of Supernatural’s visual world on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast. For the Season 9 midseason bonus, Berly and LA sit down “in” the bunker with Jerry Wanek, who served as production designer, director, and executive producer across all 15 seasons and 327 episodes. He has four Art Directors Guild nominations and an Emmy nomination, and he’s the creator of the Supernatural crew coffee table book. The conversation ran long, and the hosts are still mad they had to cut it down. Episode Highlights: Cleaning up after a fire for $35 a day, then getting Ronald McDonald a chilled case of Heineken by noon Madonna videos with David Fincher, and a decade of Westerns with Kenny Rogers and Larry McMurtry Dark Angel with James Cameron, where Jensen Ackles stole every scene, and why Jerry signed on to Supernatural sight unseen Kim Manners’s initials hidden on canoe paddles in a motel room 173 motel rooms: the mud flap girls, the disco motel reveal, and the Motel 6 deal he refused Easter eggs: Eric Kripke’s grandfather’s scrap metal business, and a beer label starring Jerry’s mom The great telescope fight with Phil Sgriccia, plus the bunker’s secrets: bookcases on wheels, styrofoam columns, and hidden sigils in the floor Why the first victim’s art in The Slice Girls was all feet, and how Jerry survived his first time directing Why Jared Padalecki eventually wasn’t allowed to drive How a canceled finale party became the crew coffee table book, now in its third printing Guy Norman Bee told the hosts Jerry worked magic on Frontierland, and Jerry confirms it. Afterward, LA and Berly can’t stop talking about the art gallery on Jerry’s walls. Plus, a thank-you to the Bobby-tier patrons. Angel Factions, a Shocking Betrayal & Who Guarded the Garden A biker gang and a glee club go into a bar... That's not a joke setup. It's just the cold open. This week the angel turf war between Bartholomew and Malachi escalates fast, Castiel shows up with his FBI badge still very much in hand, and Metatron is lurking in alleyways because heaven is boring. Meanwhile, the Gadreel situation is unraveling, and this midseason finale does not pull its punches. Berly and LA break down the big reveals, debate Metatron's jarring villain pivot, mourn a beloved character, and address the show's angel-power inconsistencies. We close out with a mid-season check-in: too many factions, Abaddon still out there with a list of every hunter's name, Crowley in the basement probably judging everyone's choices, and Gabriel still nowhere to be found despite promises he's coming. Berly is keeping score. The midseason finale came for our throats, and we were NOT prepared. Born-again Virgins, Erotic Temptation & a Tradwife Goddess Berly and LA dig into one of Season 9's most unexpectedly hilarious episodes, and yes, the title is exactly as suggestive as it sounds. A string of disappearances leads the Winchesters to a church abstinence group, where Sam and Dean sign up as born-again virgins (for investigative purposes, obviously). Dean's group therapy monologue alone is worth the price of admission, and the ladies of the APU would agree. The monster of the week turns out to be a goddess with a thousand years of grudges, excellent taste in cardigans, and a very specific appetite. Jody Mills is back and absolutely not here for anyone's nonsense. Sam's mysterious health situation gets harder to ignore. And Dean keeps almost telling the truth. There's lore, there's gore, there's a fallout shelter, and there are some truly unfortunate fingernails. You'll know when you get there. What did you think of this episode? What is this? A center for boys? Dean Winchester had a whole secret life, and Sam had absolutely no idea. A call from the past drags the boys to Hurleyville, New York, where a ghost is terrorizing a home for troubled kids. Routine enough, except Dean spent two months at this exact farm as a teenager. He joined the wrestling team, got his first kiss, was going to go to the school dance... and then vanished without a trace. The story John told Sam? A complete lie. The case itself delivers: a lawnmower, a housekeeper named Ruth with all the tea about the farm's murderous history (meat cleaver, corn liquor, jealous husband), and the ghost makeup in this episode is genuinely some of the best of the series. But the heart of this one is Dean. The flashbacks hit hard, the feelings are very much not talked about, and by the end, Sam just says "thank you" while Dean pretends not to know what he means. Classic. Also in this episode: can a person be literally haunted? The lore this week says yes, and it reframes everything you just watched. 🎙️ Leave us a review if you're enjoying the show! Babysitting Blunders & Giving the Ultimate Pink Slip Berly and LA are sipping a tweaked Nerdy Tavern's Dean's Pink Satin Panties cocktail (more cranberry juice, highly recommended) while covering an episode that is, fittingly, very pink. Someone is getting misted out there in Idaho, and it's not rain. Cas has reinvented himself with a gas station job, a name tag, and what he thinks is a date. Dean has a case and absolutely no interest in 24 volumes of ancient languages research. Back at the bunker, Crowley has one phone call and a secret hobby that Sam really wasn't supposed to see. And roaming the streets of Rexford is an angel with a cross earring, good intentions, and a catastrophically loose definition of "mercy." Berly also drops a surprisingly deep lore dive on the biblical Ephraim, son of Joseph (yes, the coat, the brothers, the Egypt), and traces exactly how a figure built around healing and humility ends up here, pink-misting a teenager outside a school bus. It's a quieter episode with a lot of moving pieces, and the girls have thoughts on all of it, including Nora's bowling outfit choices and whether Misha Collins has an unusually flexible wrist. 💬 We want to hear from you! Dean does Doggy Daycare & a Shaman-wannabe Gets Stuffed A taxidermist turns up dead in Enid, Oklahoma, folded the wrong way, and his specimens' organs are missing. The only witness? A German Shepherd named Colonel. The solution? A shaman spell, some truly unpleasant mystery liquid, and Dean Winchester becoming the world's most reluctant dog person. This episode is cheesy chaos, and we are not complaining. Berly loses it completely at least twice, LA dives into the surprisingly insightful world of shamanism, and they both spiral into some genuinely relatable self-reflection about emotional digestion. There's also a villain with incredible nails, a vegan bakery Dean treats like the mouth of hell, and a Leslie Jordan cameo that made us squeal. Oh, and the boys are still carrying some heavy feelings about the whole Ezekiel situation... and it's starting to show. 💬 Did you ever think a Supernatural episode about talking to dogs would hit emotionally? Ruby Slippers, a Rebellious Redhead & (Potential) Real-life Inspiration for Baum's Oz We're clicking our heels together three times and heading to Oz, baby, and it's not what you expected. This week, Berly and LA dig into one of Season 9's most unexpected episodes: a full-on Wizard of Oz crossover that opens in black-and-white 1935 and goes completely off the rails from there. Dorothy Gale is real, she's a hunter, she's been trapped in a jar in the bunker for eighty years, and she has opinions about men. The Wicked Witch is also real, she's furious, and she is not going to let a little thing like being tongueless slow her down. Charlie gets called in to help with a computer situation, ends up in the middle of all of it, and has what can only be described as a very big day. Dean's bedroom yields a crucial plot device. The bunker reveals a few surprises, including a garage (Baby is safe, everyone breathe), and Crowley, still chained up downstairs with his crayon, somehow manages to make himself useful. LA also gets into the surprisingly rich real history of L. Frank Baum, and it genuinely makes the Supernatural version of him feel less far-fetched than it should. This one was a good time. LA called it as a favorite before the episode even finished. Think fairy tale crossovers belong in Supernatural? Did you love this episode as much as LA did? Do you have theories about Ezekiel, strong opinions about those underwhelming ruby slippers, or a burning need to defend the slow-mo yellow brick road walk? Drop a comment and let us know... and if you're enjoying the show, please leave us a review ! It genuinely helps us out and warms our little Winchester-loving hearts. Being Human can be Brutal Castiel without grace is not just “weaker” Castiel. He’s suddenly breakable, hungry, terrified, and learning in real time that being human means your body keeps making demands whether you’re ready or not. Berly and LA talk through Supernatural Season 9’s “I’m No Angel” and why it hits so hard: it turns a cosmic character into a mortal target right as Heaven decides to hunt him like prey. Over drinks, we trace the episode’s biggest story moves: Ezekiel’s uneasy partnership with Dean, the angels’ new leadership under Bartholomew, and the gruesome trail of bodies left behind as vessels become expendable. We also dig into the lore questions the hour kicks up, from warding and tracking to what reapers can do that angels apparently can’t. If you’re searching for a clear recap of the angel civil war plot, the bunker dynamics, and where Castiel’s human arc is heading, this conversation connects the dots without losing the fun. Then there’s April, the PB and J kindness, the bedroom turn, and the brutal reveal. We unpack what the show is doing with intimacy, trust, and consent, and how quickly “a safe place” can flip into another threat when Sam and Dean bring Cas back to the bunker only to have him pushed out again. Listen now, then subscribe, share the episode with a Supernatural friend, and leave a review. What do you think Dean should have done when saving Sam meant losing Cas? Crowley's in the Dungeon and Abby's Making Moves Abaddon is back, and she isn’t here to negotiate. We grab drinks and unpack “Devil May Care” from Supernatural Season 9, where the fallout from Dean’s desperate choice keeps getting louder: Sam feels healthier than he has in ages, but only because Ezekiel is hiding inside him and quietly taking control when things go sideways. We follow the case from a choppy, creepy cold open to a military base full of too-clean answers, then into an abandoned, poisoned town that turns into a trap. Along the way, we talk about why Tracy’s introduction feels like the show trying to hand us a new recurring hunter, why Irv’s betrayal hits a nerve, and why Abaddon’s philosophy makes her scarier than most villains. She wants demons who act like warriors, she upgrades vessels like gear, and she clocks Dean as the kind of “perfect vessel” that pulls the whole archangel mythos back into focus. Back at the Men of Letters bunker, the emotional core is Kevin Tran versus Crowley. The torture plan backfires into something more disturbing and more honest: Crowley craves attention, Kevin is spiralling, and Dean tries to keep everyone together while holding a secret that Sam can’t consent to. We close with a lore deep dive into the Goetia and demon hierarchy keywords like kings, dukes, princes, marquis, presidents, and the lone knight rank, then connect it back to what “Knight of Hell” means for Abaddon’s power. LA & BERLY ARE BACK! Sam is dying, Dean is cornered, and the world has a brand-new problem: “superpowered dicks” are falling from the sky. Season 9 kicks off with “I Think I’m Gonna Like It Here,” and we follow the premiere beat by beat, starting with that eerie, hazy cold open that turns out to be Sam’s last stand happening inside his own head. We talk through the hospital panic, Dean’s desperate prayer for help, and why the answer he gets is worse than silence. Then Ezekiel appears with an offer that sounds heroic until you hear the fine print: Sam can only be healed from the inside. That’s when we get into the real heart of the episode: consent is key! Human Cas is on the loose, and he is a mess after quickly realizing that he can feel pain, he can feel hunger, and his magic fingering is on the fritz without his grace. We wrap with our gore (but somehow forget to mention that horrific Hael scene), what we adored, our predictions for the season, and a quick lore dive into Ezekiel’s biblical background and why that name matters.
