TikTok has become one of the most powerful, and least understood, tools in modern PR, branding and crisis communication, and this episode breaks down exactly how. Jacki Vause sits down with Harri Brown, co-founder of TikTok-first agency Antler Social, to unpack why the platform has matured far beyond dancing teenagers into a genuine search engine. Around 70% of TikTok's global user base is now over 25, and roughly half of millennials saying they'd rather search TikTok than Google. At the centre of the conversation is Meghan Markle, whose As Ever brand sold out its first product drop in 45 minutes, only to be buried under accusations of unsold jam and wickless candles. Her total absence, along with the rest of the Royal Family, from a platform built on authenticity raises real questions about digital strategy, control, and trust. From there, the discussion moves into the mechanics PR and social media professionals actually need to know: how to read engagement quality and spot the difference between organic virality and paid-for influence, why low-quality comments and inflated view counts are red flags, and how brands and micro-influencer UGC campaigns have used TikTok to genuinely shift consumer trust. Harri also breaks down why the Royal Family's TikTok silence is a deliberate, if increasingly risky, crisis-communication choice, and offers a clear-eyed verdict on how Meghan Markle could better position As Ever if she wants the brand — rather than her polarising public image — to do the talking. In This Episode The search engine shift : How TikTok's maturing audience — now 70% over 25 — has turned it into a genuine competitor to Google for discovery and trust. Spotting fake engagement : Harri's litmus test for telling organic virality apart from bought views, bot comments, and over-engineered "authenticity." The authenticity trap : Why raw, unfiltered honesty beats performative "authentic self" branding, and what Gordon Ramsay, Hugh Grant and Kiki Palmer got right. Meghan Markle's As Ever problem : Why pairing a polarising personal brand with a premium product line is a high-risk strategy, and how Harri would fix it. The Royal Family's TikTok silence : Why the monarchy's total absence from the platform is deliberate, and the crisis-comms parallels between staying quiet online and off it. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's return to the UK couldn't have landed at a more loaded moment for Royal PR strategy. With Remembrance Week, King Charles's 77th birthday, and the Buckingham Palace Diplomatic Reception all packed into the run-up to Christmas, the communications offices of both the King and the Prince and Princess of Wales are treating this stretch like a war room — mapping every date on the calendar as a potential landmine and reverse-engineering the crisis plans that almost certainly already exist behind palace doors. In this episode, we break down exactly how that planning works, from evidence-banking and precedent-tracking to the process that governs how palace comms react when — not if — a Sussex surprise drops. We dig into why Harry and Meghan's presence back in the UK alters the relative PR risks around Remembrance Week and Charles's birthday, and why this close proximity is proving more dangerous to manage than distance ever was. We look at the King's long game — the same patient, evidence-first strategy that eventually impacted Prince Andrew — and unpack why "never complain, never explain" remains the most effective tool in the Royal playbook. We also examine how William and Catherine's cause-first approach, from the Earthshot Prize to suicide prevention work, keeps their office insulated from the landmines The King's office can't avoid, and ask what Harry and Meghan's actual end game is now that they're back on British soil. In this episode: The war room strategy : How palace comms map out landmines months in advance, from evidence banks to crisis-response protocols. Remembrance Week's risk : Why the run-up to Charles's birthday, just three days later, has strategists on edge. The long game : Why Charles is letting Harry and Meghan write their own downfall, and what the Andrew precedent tells us about his timing. Cause over self : How William and Catherine's Earthshot and mental health work keeps their office one step ahead of the Sussexes. The Sussex endgame : What Harry and Meghan actually want from their return — and why even their own team may not know. The royal silence may be over, but for Harry and Meghan, the ambiguity is only just beginning. Eleven days after the Sussexes touched back down in the UK, King Charles responded via a letter sent on his behalf by Lord Chamberlain. The letter confirms that Harry and Meghan remain non-working royals, that their HRH titles stay in abeyance, and that their position is now described as "akin to private citizens." In this episode, we break down the deliberately careful language of that letter, and why an institution famous for precision chose to leave so much still unresolved. Instead of a slap-down or a real change in status, the palace has delivered what plays out like a holding statement dressed up as clarification — dropped, curiously, to coincide with a Ravec security review, and stopping just short of calling Harry and Meghan private citizens outright. We unpack the "akin to" wording that leaves the door open for whatever comes next, why the message was routed through the Lord Chamberlain rather than issued as a palace press statement, and why Harry and Meghan's camp is already briefing that they were "shocked." From the quiet reinforcement of the Sandringham Agreement to the fallout from Meghan's Gloria Steinem tribute and whispers of a "rival court" forming around the Sussexes, we explore whether this letter is a genuine warning shot or the opening move in a much longer game of royal chess. In this episode: The ambiguous letter: Why the Lord Chamberlain's carefully worded note about Harry and Meghan's status manages to say almost nothing new — and why that might be exactly the point. The "private citizens" trap: What the phrase "akin to private citizens" really implies for Lilibet and Archie's future titles. Timing and Ravec: Why the letter dropped alongside a security review, and our prediction on who ends up funding Sussex security going forward. The rival court forming: What Meghan's Gloria Steinem tribute reveals about the widening gap between the Sussex and Wales camps. What comes next: Why this letter could be the palace's final warning before a real reckoning over the Sandringham Agreement. On a quiet Saturday night in August, the Sunday Times ran ten words that will occupy an entire PR machine for weeks: King Charles’s charity quietly adds Queen’s sister to the payroll. In this episode, we pull apart the mechanics behind that headline and trace exactly how journalist Gabriel Pogrund built an airtight investigation without a single leak, a source in a dark alley, or a brown envelope — just two sets of publicly filed annual accounts and one conspicuously blank box. We compare it against the case Charles's own son handled. When Prince William inherited the Duchy of Cornwall in 2024, he ended Annabel Elliot's decades-long retainer with a simple line — "not a reflection on her work" — because the arrangement had been declared, year after year, exactly where it should have been. King Charles's Foundation didn't have that luxury. The same designer, doing the same category of work, funded partly by six million pounds of taxpayer money, never appeared in the charity's related-party disclosures — and when asked directly, twice, where the arrangement had "previously been reported publicly," the Foundation declined to answer both times. We break down those statements clause by clause, the way a journalist reads them, and explain why the phrase "not secret" did more damage to this story than anything Pogrund wrote himself. From the trustee who says he was never told, to the palace's silence that read as distance, to the five concrete rules every PR team needs before the next journalist calls with a document gap, this is a masterclass in what happens when a principal fails to ask the one boring question that protects everyone: is anyone connected to me being paid, and is it all in the accounts? In this episode: The accounting trail: How Gabriel Pogrund built the entire Sunday Times story from two sets of annual accounts and one blank related-party box — no leak, no source, no dark alley required. Two ways to handle the same designer: Why Prince William's clean, upstream decision to end Annabel Elliot's Duchy of Cornwall retainer worked, and why King Charles's Foundation was left holding a document gap it never saw coming. Reading a statement like a journalist: A clause-by-clause breakdown of the Foundation's two statements, and how the phrase "not secret" handed Pogrund his best paragraph. The silence that speaks: What it means when a trustee says he was never told, the palace declines to comment, and "independent" gets contradicted by the charity's own on-record history. Five rules for the next crisis: The practical playbook for what to do — and never say — when a journalist calls with proof you can't out-argue. The British royal family is having a moment, and not the good kind, as scandals collide around King Charles, Andrew, Fergie, and Harry and Meghan. In this episode, our wonderful guest, the amazing Paula Froelich: former Page Six editor and News Nation royal commentator; Joins Jacki Vause to unpack six royal crises landing almost simultaneously. Sarah Ferguson's quiet return to UK soil amid tell-all rumours, Prince Andrew still untouched at Sandringham with no charges filed, Harry and Meghan sliding between "private citizens" and working royals depending on the day. Furthermore, we dig into a fresh report that King Charles's own charity has been secretly paying Camilla's sister after William tried to cut her from the payroll, with one senior trustee claiming they had no idea it was happening, plus the exodus of three of Charles's most senior aides in a matter of weeks. We dig into the PR mechanics behind each headline, how Fergie may have timed her comeback to hide under Harry and Meghan's homecoming coverage, why donor and taxpayer money funding royal salaries isn't the same as private money "even when the family keeps confusing the two," and why Prince Andrew looks set to skate on both sides of the Atlantic despite the ongoing Epstein files fallout. From, “the monarchy is losing [...] public opinion” to “telling the truth is not being mean,” this episode doesn't flinch from the uncomfortable truths behind Harry and Meghan's media strategy, before closing with some blunt advice for King Charles, William and Catherine on surviving the next scandal without getting dragged into it themselves. In this episode: The soft power collapse: Why six royal crises landing at once is dragging the monarchy to its lowest approval numbers in 30 years — and what it costs Britain's standing on the world stage. The Fergie playbook: How Sarah Ferguson may have timed her quiet return to Britain to slip in under the cover of Harry and Meghan's homecoming headlines. The charity money trail: Why King Charles's charity quietly paying Camilla's sister — after William tried to cut her off — has one senior trustee saying they had no idea it was happening. Truth vs. "being mean": A blunt take on why reporting the facts about Harry and Meghan isn't cruelty, even when the coverage stings. Advice for the future king: What Paula would tell King Charles — and William and Catherine — to do the next time Andrew, Harry or Meghan end up in the same room. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s return to the UK may appear sudden, but the clues were hiding in plain sight. Joining us for this episode is seasoned royal and entertainment journalist Alison Boshoff, who brings nearly 30 years of experience covering the Royal Family and British show business. Together, we go inside the world of royal reporting to uncover how sources, publicists and competing media briefings shape the stories surrounding the Sussexes. Behind the headlines lies a communications operation that can appear more chaotic than calculated. Alison shares fascinating insight into how journalists interpret anonymous sources, why different media outlets receive conflicting information and how reactive briefings can turn a manageable story into a public spectacle. From the support of the Spencer family and the social politics of the Cotswolds to security, schooling and Harry’s long-term reputation reset. We’re exploring how Archie and Lilibet could become central to the couple’s credibility, protection and future in Britain, and why privacy may be their only route back into royal society. In this episode: Inside royal sourcing: How journalists approach contacts, cross-check competing accounts and decide whether an anonymous “friend” or “well-placed insider” can be trusted. The Sussex briefing machine: Why different media outlets receive different information—and how reactive PR can create confusion, contradiction and even bigger headlines. Harry’s image reset: How the return of his familiar British persona signalled that his plans to rebuild public goodwill were already underway. The children strategy: Why Archie and Lilibet could transform the conversation around security, credibility and the Sussexes’ long-term place in the UK. Life after California: What schools, Spencer family support and a possible Cotswolds social circle could mean for Harry and Meghan’s bicontinental future. Dolly Parton’s enduring legacy wasn’t built through reinvention, carefully timed campaigns or constantly changing her image to suit the culture around her. Underneath the rhinestones, wigs and unmistakable personality was something much more disciplined: an extraordinarily clear vision, mission and values that remained aligned for more than six decades. From refusing to surrender the publishing rights to I Will Always Love You to defending her Smoky Mountain roots and maintaining the same distinctive identity even when country music temporarily moved on without her, Dolly built trust through consistency rather than calculation. That philosophy extended far beyond Dolly Parton’s music and personal brand. Her Imagination Library transformed a deeply personal belief in literacy into an institution distributing millions of books, Dollywood created jobs in the community she came from, and her support for LGBTQ people demonstrated values through repeated actions rather than public campaigns. Even when fashions changed, Dolly didn’t reinvent herself — she “Dollyised” what was current, adapting trends without compromising what was fixed underneath. From 9 to 5 and Barbara Walters to business negotiations, philanthropy and cultural relevance, Dolly Parton offers a remarkable lesson in branding, authenticity, leadership and reputation: know exactly what you stand for, behave consistently with it, and give people decades of evidence that they can trust you. In this episode: The Dolly Parton brand: How a clear vision established early in her career shaped everything from her distinctive image to the decisions she made decades later. Consistency creates trust: Why Dolly’s repeated choices in interviews, songwriting, business and public life created a reputation no individual PR campaign could manufacture. “Dollyising” the culture: How she remained relevant through changing fashions and generations without abandoning the identity that made her recognisable. Values made tangible: How honesty, loyalty and kindness became visible through the Imagination Library, Dollywood, LGBTQ support and her response to the Gatlinburg wildfires. Vision, mission and values: What Dolly Parton’s 60-year career can teach brands, leaders and public figures about building something that survives far longer than a single news cycle. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may be preparing for life back in Britain, but physically returning to the UK is only the beginning. Behind the headlines lies a much harder problem for the Royal Family: deciding exactly where Harry fits, what role he could realistically occupy, and whether King Charles and Prince William can agree on a united strategy before negotiations with the Sussexes even begin. With Harry seeking reconciliation and renewed purpose, Meghan retaining her commercial independence, and William taking a considerably harder line on the Sussexes’ future, the Palace now needs something it has largely been able to avoid while Harry and Meghan were in America. That is, a clear, workable plan. Part of that plan may already exist. Long before Megxit, Harry had been envisioned in a role centred around veterans, the Commonwealth, charitable work and Invictus. But restoring any formal royal role would require compromise over commercial work, security, titles, responsibilities and trust, with Prince William potentially holding the key to what happens next. From a formal royal endorsement of Invictus to a possible ambassadorial role and a carefully negotiated path back towards royal duties, Harry’s UK return could become less about recreating the past and more about building an entirely new position within the monarchy. In this episode: The Palace needs a plan: Why Harry and Meghan’s return to Britain makes the Royal Family’s unresolved divisions impossible to leave in the background. William holds the key: Why King Charles and Prince William need to establish a united negotiating position before any meaningful agreement with Harry can work. The forgotten Harry blueprint: How an old plan involving veterans, the Commonwealth, Africa and Invictus could provide the foundations for Harry’s future royal role. What Harry could trade: How commercial work, titles, royal duties and a possible ambassadorial position could become bargaining points in a wider Palace negotiation. Playing the long game: Why security, formal agreements, realistic expectations and quietly proving the arrangement works could matter more than a dramatic royal relaunch. Prince Harry’s potential return to Britain has largely been framed around reconciliation, security and whether Meghan Markle would ever return with him. But Jacki believes that misses the most important part of the strategy entirely. In this episode, Harry’s future relationship with Britain, the Royal Family and the monarchy could ultimately depend on his children, and the position they could occupy simply by being present in the UK. At the centre of this are three things Harry has spent years struggling to secure: security, credibility and parity. Bringing his children closer to Britain could change Harry’s position in ways that court cases, interviews and public campaigns never have, while creating an entirely different dynamic with King Charles and Prince William. From Charles’ desire to develop relationships with his grandchildren to William’s much harder questions around his trust in the Sussexes and some much needed institutional stability — a successful return would need to be elegant, restrained and built through conduct rather than headlines. And with Invictus potentially offering Harry and limited route back into public life, could his best strategy now be allowing the next generation time to establish their own presence? In this episode: Harry’s three priorities: Why Jacki believes security, credibility and parity are the golden thread running through Harry’s potential return strategy. Why the children change everything: How their presence in Britain could strengthen their connection to the monarchy while simultaneously changing Harry’s own position. Charles vs. William: Why King Charles may approach Harry’s children emotionally, while Prince William is likely to remain focused on trust, privacy and protecting the institution. The quiet route back: Why Jacki believes Harry’s best option is restraint, consistency and conduct rather than interviews, public confrontations or another major relaunch. Invictus and Harry’s future role: How service and duty could provide Harry with a limited but credible public platform — even if there is no route back to life as a working royal. Meghan Markle’s reported return to acting has gone from apparent offer, to reported withdrawal, to disputed claims in a matter of days. But what if whether Meghan actually appears in The Gentlemen is almost beside the point? In this episode, we’re breaking down the extraordinary timing of the story and asking whether the entire acting saga could be serving a much bigger purpose in Harry and Meghan’s evolving UK strategy. From reports of early discussions with Guy Ritchie and Netflix, to Tina Brown’s intervention and the Sussex camp disputing claims that the opportunity had disappeared, the story has generated enormous attention despite very little being confirmed. We’re examining whether this is traditional “kite flying” or something more deliberate: a piece of strategic obfuscation that gives Meghan a clear reason to return to Britain while distracting from potentially bigger moves taking place behind the scenes. We also look at Harry shedding parts of his old public identity, the growing significance of the Spencer family, and why separating Meghan’s acting, Harry’s Invictus work and their family image into distinct communication “lanes” could finally give the Sussexes the coherent strategy they have previously lacked. In this episode: The acting smokescreen: Why Meghan’s reported involvement in The Gentlemen may matter less as an acting job and more as an explanation for her place in the Sussexes’ UK return. Kite flying or obfuscation?: How strategically placed stories can test public reaction, dominate headlines and divert attention from developments happening elsewhere. Timing is everything: Why the rapid sequence of Meghan’s acting reports, Harry’s changing public commitments and the Sussexes’ reported UK plans could point towards a much more coordinated communications strategy. The Sussexes create their lanes: How Meghan’s acting career, Harry’s Invictus work and their shared family image could finally give the couple clearer and more consistent public identities. The passing of Hayden Panettiere has reignited a conversation Jacki and Lyle have been wanting to have for a long time: what actually happens to child stars once the cameras start rolling, and who is supposed to be protecting them. In this episode, we take a hard look at the machinery behind childhood fame, from Bugs Life and Heroes to a lifetime of tabloid headlines, and ask why an industry that claims to manage image so carefully so often fails to manage the person underneath it. We widen the lens from Hayden to Ariana Grande, Britney Spears and Justin Bieber, tracing a pattern that starts in childhood and follows these stars long into adulthood: an identity fused entirely with output, a value system built on clicks rather than wellbeing, and a publicity machine that rewards trauma over restraint. We dig into the crucial difference between publicity and public relations, why Ariana's controversial Petal video may be a red flag for the team around her, and why Britney Spears' post-guardianship choices reveal decades of conditioning rather than a lack of judgement. From there we turn to who is actually getting it right, Owen Cooper, the Harry Potter cast, and Billie Eilish, and what their teams understood that so many others didn't. In this episode: The machine that rewards bad stories: Why trauma headlines are a short-term win for publicists but a long-term death knell for a client's career. Publicity vs public relations: The critical distinction between chasing headlines and actually protecting someone's reputation and future. Ariana Grande's Petal video: What it signals about the quality of advice she's currently getting, and why timing matters so much in PR. Britney Spears and the cost of lost agency: How decades without decision-making left her without the tools to navigate freedom. Who's getting it right: Why Owen Cooper, the Harry Potter trio, and Billie Eilish offer a genuine blueprint for protecting young talent. The Sussexes left Britain six years ago, but the story may now be turning full circle. Following reports that Prince Harry and Meghan are returning to the UK, with Archie and Lilibet due to be enrolled in UK schools, Jacki and Lyle examine the strategy, timing and carefully managed media narrative behind this extraordinary royal development. And after predicting the move just three weeks ago, Jacki has plenty to say about the clues that may have been hiding in plain sight. From Harry’s “nothing to say” response to reports about when senior royals were informed, we analyse the language, briefings and competing narratives surrounding the return. Jacki and Lyle explore whether the Palace have been preparing the public for this moment, how the Royal Rota may shape perceptions of Meghan’s homecoming, and why the couple’s children, security arrangements and charitable work could prove central to the strategy. They also predict how William and Catherine may respond, what Harry’s future with Invictus could look like and why the Sussexes may finally need to choose their lanes and stick to them. In this episode: The prediction that came true: How Jacki anticipated Harry and Meghan’s UK return three weeks before the story broke—and the signals that informed her thinking. Timing the royal return: Why the school calendar, Harry’s planned UK engagements and recent legal developments may have influenced the announcement. Controlling the media narrative: How strategic briefings, carefully chosen language and Harry’s unusually restrained response are shaping the story. The palace response: What Buckingham Palace, William and Catherine may say—and how dignity, distance and public duty could define their strategy. Choosing a lane: Why Jacki believes Harry should focus on Invictus, Meghan needs a clearer platform and the couple must simplify their public positioning. Prince Harry’s return to the UK is already making headlines, but the sheer volume of reporting and remarkably consistent language surrounding those reports tells us something far more interesting. From Harry being described as “buoyed” and “energised” by his recent contact with the Royal Family to repeated suggestions that he will begin spending considerably more time in the UK, we could be witnessing a carefully coordinated attempt to make Harry’s return feel increasingly normal. In this episode, Jacki and Lyle break down the PR strategy that is taking shape around Harry’s upcoming visit and the potential problems waiting beneath the positive headlines. They examine the repeated language appearing across royal coverage, the curious handling of dates surrounding the WellChild Awards, Harry’s charitable activity following his departure from Sentebale, and the legal stories that Jacki argues could disrupt the smoother re-entry currently being presented to the public. From questions surrounding King Charles and Prince William to the importance of restraint, transparency and preparation, Jacki explains why successfully returning to royal life requires far more than simply changing the media narrative. In this episode: The media flooding strategy: Why Jacki believes repeated stories about Prince Harry’s UK return are designed to make his presence in Britain increasingly familiar and less controversial. Reading between the royal lines: How words including “buoyed” and “energized” can reveal the message communicators want audiences to take away from seemingly straightforward reporting. The landmines ahead: Why unresolved legal stories, Sentebale and other controversies could complicate the positive narrative surrounding Harry’s return. Harry and the Royal Family: What repeated references to “family” might really mean when relationships with King Charles, Prince William and other relatives remain under scrutiny. The PR strategy Harry needs: Why Jacki argues that restraint, transparency, preparation and consistent values will be essential if Harry wants to rebuild public goodwill. What does it take to build one of the world's most recognisable celebrity brands? In this episode, we sit down with award-winning entertainment journalist, and current Editor-at-Large at the Daily Mail, Alison Boshoff to discuss her new book, Brand Beckham , which explores how David and Victoria Beckham transformed themselves from global celebrities into one of the world's most recognisable and enduring brands. With decades of experience reporting on some of the world's biggest celebrities, Alison explores the media moments that helped shape Brand Beckham, from David and Victoria's early relationship and their headline-making wedding to the evolution of their fashion identities and the launch of their respective business empires. Alison explains the importance of source cultivation, why relationships between journalists and their sources are built over years rather than through one-off conversations, and how knowing when and how to push for information can make all the difference. Alison also discusses the more difficult side of celebrity reporting, including family crises, her recent involvement in the High Court privacy trial between Prince Harry and Associated Newspapers, and the intense scrutiny faced by high-profile figures. We also examine the striking parallels between the Beckham and Royal Family narratives. Brand Beckham is OUT NOW, and is a fascinating look at the relationship between fame, media, reputation and strategic brand-building. And head to Alison’s brilliant Substack by searching @alisonboshoff. In this episode: Brand Beckham: Alison discusses her new book and reveals how decades of media coverage helped transform David and Victoria Beckham from footballer and pop star into a global lifestyle brand. The art of source cultivation: Why the best relationships between journalists and sources are built through luck, kindness and time - and how trust can unlock stories that would otherwise remain hidden. Beckham media moments: From their early romance and iconic wedding to family controversies and career reinventions, Alison explores the moments that shaped public perceptions of the Beckhams. The power of image: How fashion, photography and carefully constructed imagery became central to the Beckham brand - and why visual storytelling can sometimes communicate more powerfully than words. Harry and Meghan: Alison examines the very different media narratives surrounding the two couples, the role of the British press and what their contrasting approaches reveal about reputation management and celebrity PR. Prince Louis has become one of the Royal Family’s most naturally entertaining young figures. From pulling faces on the Buckingham Palace balcony during the Platinum Jubilee to his latest public appearances, the press has affectionately embraced the young prince as the funny, charismatic royal who “steals the show.” But could years of seemingly harmless headlines eventually create a role he never chose for himself? In this week’s Jacki’s Deep Dive , Jacki is looking at a pattern that has already played out twice within the Royal Family. From Prince Andrew being positioned as the roguish alternative to the dutiful Charles, to Prince Harry becoming the wild and charismatic contrast to William, repeated media framing helped build powerful public identities around both men. Jacki examines whether the same narrative is now beginning to form around Prince Louis, why even positive coverage can become restrictive when repeated over many years, and how the Royal Family and the press can avoid falling into the same trap for a third generation. We also explore why William and Catherine’s existing restrictive agreements with the British media offer genuine reason for optimism, and how extending that restraint from photography to language could help give royal children the freedom to develop their own identities. In this episode: The Prince Louis persona: How affectionate coverage of his humour, expressions and public appearances is beginning to create a recognisable media identity around him. The royal pattern repeating: Why the contrasting portrayals of Charles and Andrew, then William and Harry, offer a warning about labelling royal siblings too early. When positive headlines become a box: How repeated descriptions such as “the charismatic one” can gradually become an identity a child never chose. Why there is reason for optimism: How William and Catherine’s existing relationship with the British press shows that greater restraint around royal children is possible. Changing the language: Why the next step may be moving beyond rules about photographs and applying the same discipline to comparisons, labels and personality narratives. Sarah Ferguson is facing a deepening royal scandal as Andrew Lownie’s explosive revelations place the House of York under renewed scrutiny. With legal investigations, charity controversies and damaging claims threatening Fergie’s reputation, her familiar PR strategy of retreating from public view and waiting for the headlines to vanish may no longer work. As the royal family distances itself and her traditional comeback routes disappear, Sarah Ferguson is now facing a defining reputation-management decision. In this episode, we analyse the crisis communications dilemma facing Sarah Ferguson as Andrew Lownie’s heavily sourced allegations become harder to challenge or wait out. Jacki and Lyle examine whether Fergie’s familiar strategy of disappearing, letting the headlines fade and eventually returning with a charitable or creative project can still work in these very different circumstances. Could a podcast offer a strategic middle ground, giving her greater control over the narrative, a way to monetise her profile and an opportunity to reshape her reputation without committing to a damaging tell-all? Or would it fall into the same trap as Meghan’s podcast, promising access but failing to deliver audiences what they actually want? Don't forget to join us in part 2 on Substack or YouTube for the full length episode! In this episode: Why this scandal is different: How the loss of Fergie’s royal proximity and philanthropic platform has made her traditional comeback strategy increasingly difficult. The credibility problem: Why Andrew Lownie’s careful sourcing, understated delivery and confidence in his allegations make him difficult for Fergie’s team to challenge. A collapsing public narrative: How Lownie is questioning the “happiest divorced couple” image and other messages Sarah Ferguson has relied upon for years. The content creator threat: Why independent royal podcasters may investigate the House of York more aggressively than traditional royal correspondents. The podcast opportunity: Could Sarah Ferguson use her contacts, presenting experience and natural showmanship to build a platform she can control? Mark Dolan may have crossed a line by speculating about Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, but was Harry and Meghan’s furious response the even greater controversy? After Dolan suggested that the Sussex children could one day make life difficult for Prince George, Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte, Harry and Meghan issued a strongly worded statement declaring themselves “genuinely disgusted.” In this episode, we’re examining why the Sussexes were justified in defending their children, but may have undermined their own position through an emotional and confrontational response. Using this latest Sussex development as a case study, we’re exploring how a show of anger can allow the display itself to overshadow the original comments made and prolong in the media cycle. From Mark Dolan’s provocative broadcasting style to the late Queen Elizabeth’s famously restrained “recollections may vary” response, we compare two radically different approaches to reputation management. We also consider what this latest communication misstep means for Harry and Meghan’s attempts to rebuild bridges with the Royal Family, and why effective crisis communications are defined by, not whether, but how you respond. In this episode: When commentary crosses the line: Why speculating about the future personalities and behaviour of Archie and Lilibet was fundamentally different from analysing their parents. The emotional statement problem: How words such as “demonize,” “disgusted” and “irresponsible” escalated the dispute rather than shutting it down. When the response becomes the story: Why the Sussexes’ anger attracted greater scrutiny and gave Mark Dolan more material to discuss. Restraint versus retaliation: What Harry and Meghan could learn from Queen Elizabeth and Princess Catherine’s more measured communication styles. The reconciliation problem: Why this latest statement may reinforce the perception that Harry and Meghan remain unpredictable and difficult to reintegrate into royal life. What would actually happen if Harry and Meghan returned to Britain permanently? With an already divided family, stretched palace resources, and a deeply sceptical public, it would be no simple feat. In this episode of Jacki’s Deep Dives, Jacki is examining the realistic difficulties the Sussexes’ would, and do, face. With a weakened legal and commercial position, a partial but only rumoured reconciliation with King Charles, and Prince William’s continued refusal to reopen the door—Harry and Meghan are at the tip of the iceberg should they truly wish to return wholly. Now, every appearance, photograph and public statement risks exposing the Royal Family’s divisions further, making a consistent palace narrative almost impossible to maintain. With Britain’s soft power on a downward slope, and trust in UK institutions already significantly low, the royal scandals that continue to fill headlines are only contributing to the combined reputational crisis our country faces. The consequences of Harry and Meghan’s still potential return could, as Jacki posits, only further multiply the challenges the palace currently faces and further damage the UK’s credibility as a whole. In this episode: The Sussex position: Why Harry and Meghan’s mounting legal costs, reduced commercial opportunities and financial pressures have changed how any possible UK return would be perceived. A partial royal reconciliation: What Harry’s renewed relationship with Charles and Camilla really means, and why it should not be mistaken for a united family reunion. William’s closed door: How Prince William and Catherine’s refusal to enter the Sussex narrative protects their reputation while confirming the depth of the family divide. The palace PR problem: Why a permanent Sussex presence in Britain would make every royal appearance, photograph and public statement harder to control. Britain’s hidden reputational cost: How royal scandals may be contributing to falling institutional trust, declining soft power and damage to the UK’s global standing. Ryan Reynolds was once Hollywood’s seemingly untouchable golden boy. His self-aware humour, carefully engineered publicity stunts and relatable persona helped turn everything from Deadpool to Aviation Gin and Wrexham AFC into extensions of the Ryan Reynolds brand. But following the Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni legal battle, audiences have been given a revealing glimpse behind that polished public image, raising questions about whether the wit that built his brand conceals a much sharper edge behind closed doors. In this episode, we analyse Reynolds’ surprise appearance at San Diego Comic-Con, his apparent attempt to overwhelm negative coverage with headline moments, and the growing signs that Hollywood’s enthusiasm may be cooling. From Paramount moving away from projects connected to his production company to the absence of a new Deadpool announcement, we’re exploring Reynold’s latest efforts to cover up what has been a less than stellar year for his PR image. We also compare his Maximum Effort PR strategy with Ryan Gosling’s effortless mystique. While Reynolds appears to be chasing viral moments, Gosling can command attention through restraint, privacy and apparent sincerity. As independent creators gain greater influence over celebrity narratives, can old-school headline PR still protect Reynolds' brand, or has the public already seen too much? In this episode: The maximum effort comeback: Why Ryan Reynolds is rapidly generating appearances, content and headlines following months of damaging publicity. When relatability becomes overexposure: How the Baldoni legal dispute stripped away some of the mystique behind Reynolds’ humorous public persona. The Comic-Con contrast: Why Reynolds’ carefully staged Deadpool appearance felt awkward while Ryan Gosling’s minimalist reveal created genuine excitement. Hollywood’s warning signs: What abandoned projects, shifting alliances and the absence of a fourth Deadpool announcement could suggest about Reynolds’ wavering influence.
