You know what you need to do for recovery… but actually doing it feels terrifying. In this episode, we’re talking about how to take recovery action when the fear is still very much there . Because recovery isn’t about waiting until you feel ready — often, the confidence comes after you’ve done the scary thing. We cover: Why fear can get louder when you challenge your ED The neuroscience behind avoidance, fear and rewiring your brain Why waiting to feel “ready” can keep you stuck How to make scary recovery challenges feel more manageable What to do when you’re panicking and want to back out Why you shouldn’t measure success by how anxious you felt How to handle the guilt and urges after a challenge My own experience of taking action while absolutely petrified You don’t need to become fearless before you recover. Sometimes recovery is simply being able to say: “I’m terrified… and I’m doing it anyway.” Fear can come with you. It just doesn’t get to choose the direction. Let me know your thoughts! I’ve spoken before about my own pregnancy journey — carrying twins, a complicated pregnancy, premature birth and everything that came with it. But in this episode, I want to get real about something slightly different: what it can actually feel like to be pregnant whilst going through eating disorder recovery. We’re talking about the parts that aren’t always easy to admit — rapid body changes, weight gain, changing hunger, losing control over your routine, movement and rest, being weighed at appointments, comparison, food guilt, old ED thoughts resurfacing and the pressure to suddenly feel completely comfortable with your body because you’re pregnant. I also share practical ways to navigate these challenges, why pregnancy can sometimes make old eating disorder pathways feel louder, and how to keep choosing recovery even when your body and life are changing faster than your brain can keep up with. Because pregnancy doesn’t require you to have perfect body image or perfect recovery . Let me know your thoughts! The final part of my Recovery Q&A series is for anyone who knows what recovery asks of them… but is finding it hard to keep going. We’re talking about the less exciting, more frustrating stages of recovery. When the initial motivation wears off, you’re doing “better” on paper, but you still don’t feel free. In this episode, I cover the honeymoon phase of recovery, getting stuck in quasi recovery, navigating life after hospital treatment, the daily grind of choosing recovery, difficult anniversary dates, and coping with heat and changes in movement. I’m also giving you a personal update on where I’m at now, what recovery looks like for me years later, and why difficult thoughts don’t have to mean you’re going backwards. If you feel like you’ve been recovering forever, you’ve lost motivation, or you’re wondering “Is this really as far as I’m going to get?” , this episode is for you. Let me know your thoughts! Recovery isn’t one brave decision or the polished version often shown online. It can involve boredom, grief, uncertainty, louder thoughts and learning who you are without the eating disorder. In this honest episode, I share what I wish I’d known about letting go of control, why your mind may take longer to heal than your body, and how ordinary choices slowly rewire your brain. In this episode, we cover: Why you don't have to feel ready before recovery begins. Why letting go of control is often harder than weight gain itself. Why your body can heal before your mind catches up. The neuroscience behind why recovery feels repetitive and why that's actually a sign your brain is changing. Why recovery becomes "boring"—and why that's one of the biggest milestones you'll ever reach. How to build a life that's bigger than your eating disorder. Why recovery doesn't remove difficult emotions, but changes how you respond to them. The grief that comes with letting go of your eating disorder identity. What life really looks like years into recovery. If recovery feels harder or slower than expected, this episode will remind you that you’re not failing. The goal isn’t perfect thoughts around food. It’s building a life where the eating disorder no longer gets the final say. Let me know your thoughts! Welcome to part two of the Recovery Q&A series. This week we're moving away from weight gain and talking about something that can feel just as challenging: recovering in a world where everyone seems to have an opinion about food. How do you stop comparing your plate to everyone else's? What do you do when your family comments on your food? How do you recover when diet culture is everywhere? And does recovery ever reach the point where food just becomes... normal again? In this episode, I'm sharing my own experiences, the psychology behind comparison and diet culture, and the lessons I've learnt from supporting hundreds of people through eating disorder recovery. In this episode we cover: Why comparing your food to other people's keeps you stuck. How your eating disorder uses confirmation bias to reinforce old beliefs. Recovering when everyone around you seems to be dieting. The difference between self-care and self-control. What to do when family members comment on your food or body. How to navigate "healthy eating" without slipping back into restriction. My biggest motivation for recovery since becoming a mum. Whether you can pass an eating disorder onto your children. What recovery really looks like years later—and whether food ever becomes ordinary again. If you've ever felt like you're trying to recover whilst the rest of the world is telling you to eat less, move more, or change your body, this episode is for you. Because recovery isn't about learning to survive in diet culture. It's about learning to trust yourself enough that it no longer gets the final say. Let me know your thoughts! You sent in your questions, and this is the first episode of a three-part Recovery Q&A series. These aren't quick answers or textbook explanations. They're the conversations I wish someone had had with me when I was recovering. In this episode, we're talking about one of the biggest fears in eating disorder recovery: weight gain. We're getting into the questions that keep so many people stuck, including whether weight gain ever stops, why your body can change even when you're eating what feels like a "normal" amount, how long it takes to trust your body again, and why feeling guilty for enjoying food is actually far more common than you think. If recovery currently feels scary, uncertain or completely overwhelming, I hope this episode helps you understand what's happening in both your brain and your body, and reminds you that you're not alone in feeling this way. In this episode we cover: Will I just keep gaining weight forever if I fully commit to recovery? Why am I gaining weight on what feels like a low intake? Why your body isn't broken after restriction. The psychology behind the fear that recovery will never end. How your body slowly learns to trust you again. Why confidence comes after recovery actions, not before. Feeling guilty for enjoying food and how to move through it. The small, ordinary decisions that create lasting recovery. Whether you're at the very beginning of recovery or you've been feeling stuck for a while, this episode is here to remind you that healing isn't about perfection—it's about consistency, compassion and learning to trust your body again. Most people in eating disorder recovery spend years trying to get it right. The right amount of food. The right level of hunger. The right level of fullness. In this episode, we're talking about what happens when recovery feels messy. When you eat past fullness, feel out of control around food, or stop trusting your own decisions. What if you're not failing recovery? What if you're learning something your eating disorder never taught you: how to trust yourself? In This Episode: • Why feeling out of control around food doesn't always mean something is wrong • The perfectionism hiding behind "doing recovery right" • What eating past fullness actually means • Physical hunger vs mental hunger • Why self-trust is built through experience, not certainty • How to respond after a meal that feels "wrong" • The mindset shift that helped me stop treating recovery like a test If you've ever worried that you're overeating, losing control, or getting recovery wrong, this episode is for you. In this episode, I’m talking about one of the biggest myths in eating disorder recovery: the belief that your body image will improve once your body changes. So many people believe that losing weight, changing their shape, eating less, exercising more, or achieving a certain look will finally make them feel confident and comfortable in themselves. The reality is that eating disorders often make body image worse, not better. I explore why body image struggles persist regardless of body size, how eating disorders distort the way we see ourselves, and why chasing the "perfect" body never creates lasting peace. I also share practical strategies for coping with bad body image days, reducing body checking, challenging appearance-focused thinking, and building self-worth beyond how you look. If you're tired of waiting to feel good enough, this episode will help you understand why recovery isn't about fixing your body. It's about healing your relationship with it. In this episode of Recover to Flourish , I’m talking about an eating disorder behaviour that is rarely spoken about openly: chewing and spitting. This is something that can bring a huge amount of shame, secrecy, and isolation, yet so many people struggle with it behind closed doors. I explore what chewing and spitting actually is, why it can become so addictive and compulsive, the physical and psychological impact it can have, and why it often keeps people stuck in the eating disorder cycle. I also talk honestly about the emotions underneath the behaviour, the role of restriction, and what recovery can look like if this is something you’re dealing with. If you’ve ever felt alone in this behaviour, I hope this episode helps you feel seen and understood. Let me know your thoughts! In today’s episode, we’re talking about recovering from movement compulsions and the fear of slowing down. The need to earn food, hit step goals, or constantly move can become exhausting and all-consuming. If rest makes you feel guilty or anxious, you’re not alone. Movement compulsions are often rooted in fear, control, and the eating disorder trying to make you feel “safe.” In this episode, we cover: 💛 Signs your relationship with movement may have become compulsive 💛 Why rest can feel so uncomfortable 💛 How eating disorders tie self-worth to exercise and productivity 💛 Practical ways to reduce compulsive movement 💛 What a healthier relationship with movement can look like Recovery is not about never exercising again. In today’s episode, we’re having a really honest conversation about postpartum and eating disorder recovery. The parts people don’t always talk about. The body changes, the emotions, the identity shift… and how all of that can land when you’ve had a complicated relationship with food or your body. If you’re in the postpartum phase and finding it harder than you expected, you’re not alone. You might feel grateful and overwhelmed at the same time. Proud of your body, but also uncomfortable in it. This episode is here to hold space for all of that. We’ll talk about why this stage can feel so triggering, how old thoughts can creep back in even when you’ve done so much work, and what it actually looks like to care for yourself in this season. Not perfectly. Just gently. We cover: Why postpartum can stir up eating disorder thoughts again The reality of body changes and how to cope with them How to support your recovery while adjusting to a new version of life This isn’t about “bouncing back.” It’s about moving forward. In today’s episode of the Recover to Flourish podcast, we’re talking about something that doesn’t get said enough — what to do when you just don’t feel motivated to recover. When you know what you should be doing, but you don’t want to do it. Or you feel flat, stuck, or even a bit numb. If that’s you, I want you to know this straight away… it doesn’t mean you’re failing. It doesn’t mean you don’t want recovery. It usually just means you’re tired, scared, or overwhelmed. In this episode, we’ll talk about why motivation comes and goes, why waiting to “feel ready” can keep you stuck, and how to keep moving forward even when you don’t feel like it. Because recovery isn’t built on motivation. It’s built on small, repeated actions, especially on the days you’d rather not. We cover: Why low motivation is a normal part of recovery How to take action without relying on motivation Small, realistic ways to keep going when everything feels hard You don’t need to feel inspired to recover. You just need to keep showing up, even in a small way. And that still counts. Let me know your thoughts! I'm back after a short maternity break! In today’s episode, we’re getting into a question that brings up a lot of fear and confusion in recovery — when do I stop restoring weight… and how do I actually eat “normally” again? If you’ve hit a point where things feel a bit more stable but also a bit uncertain, you’re not alone. Maybe part of you wants to hold on. Maybe part of you is scared of overshooting. Or maybe you’re just not sure what “normal” even looks like anymore. In this episode, we’ll talk through why weight restoration isn’t a fixed number, how your body decides where it needs to be, and what shifting toward more flexible, normal eating actually involves. This isn’t about flipping a switch overnight. It’s about gradually building trust, consistency, and a relationship with food that doesn’t feel so controlled. We cover: Why there’s no clear “finish line” for weight restoration What “normal eating” actually looks like in real life How to move from structure to flexibility without slipping back Episodes will likely be fortnightly moving forwards as I transition into motherhood. In today’s episode, we’re talking about a question that comes up all the time in recovery — is it actually possible to love your body? Because if we’re honest, sometimes “body love” can feel unrealistic. Or forced. Or like something everyone else has figured out except you. If you’re in recovery and still having bad body image days, you might be wondering if you’re doing it wrong. In this episode, we’ll unpack what body love really means (and what it doesn’t). We’ll talk about body neutrality, acceptance, and whether loving your body is even the goal — or if peace might be a better aim. I’ll share some honest reflections on how this evolves over time, and why you don’t have to feel amazing about your body to be fully recovered. We cover: The difference between body love, body acceptance, and body neutrality Why social media’s version of “loving your body” can feel unhelpful What realistic, sustainable body peace can actually look like Let me know your thoughts! In today’s episode, we’re talking about something that can feel hard to put into words — how an eating disorder slowly steals parts of who you are. Your personality. Your spark. Your confidence. Your relationships. Sometimes even your sense of humour. If you’ve ever looked back at old photos and thought, “I don’t feel like that person anymore,” this one’s for you. We’ll talk about how eating disorders shrink your world without you even noticing at first. How they become your identity. And most importantly, what starts to come back when you choose recovery. Because it’s not just weight that’s restored. It’s energy. Curiosity. Freedom. You. In this episode, we cover: The subtle ways an eating disorder takes over your identity Why recovery can feel unfamiliar at first (and why that’s normal) What begins to return as you nourish your body and your life Recovery isn’t just about food. It’s about getting your full self back. And maybe even meeting a version of you that feels stronger, softer, and more alive than before. Let me know your thoughts! In this episode, we’re talking about recovery when your days have zero structure. No fixed lunch break. No school timetable. No clear start or finish. Just long, open days… and a brain that suddenly has way too much space to overthink food. If you’ve ever found that you eat “better” when you’re busy, but struggle when you’re off work, on holiday, freelancing, studying from home, or in a life transition, this episode is for you. Lack of structure can make hunger cues harder to read. It can make meals easier to delay. And it can give the eating disorder a bit more room to negotiate. We’ll talk about why unstructured time can feel so destabilising in recovery, how to create gentle scaffolding without becoming rigid, and how to eat consistently even when your day feels all over the place. This isn’t about building a perfect routine. It’s about building enough steadiness that your body feels safe. Let me know your thoughts! In today’s episode, we’re talking about nights out, alcohol, and how all of this fits into eating disorder recovery. For so many people, socialising can feel loaded. The pressure to drink, the anxiety around food beforehand or after, and the fear of losing control can make nights out feel more stressful than fun. In this episode, I talk honestly about why nights out can be such a trigger in recovery, how alcohol can interact with eating disorder thoughts and behaviours, and what it really means to protect your recovery while still having a life. We’ll explore navigating social situations in a way that feels safer, setting boundaries without guilt, and letting go of the idea that recovery means you can’t enjoy yourself anymore. You’re allowed to socialise. You’re allowed to say yes, say no, or change your mind. And you’re allowed to build a life that includes connection, fun, and recovery at the same time. This episode is here to help you do exactly that. Let me know your thoughts! In today’s episode, we’re talking about body changes in eating disorder recovery — the ones no one really prepares you for. The physical shifts, the emotional reactions, and the moments where your body feels unfamiliar or hard to sit with. If you’re struggling with how your body is changing, you’re not doing recovery wrong. This part is hard. In this episode, I talk honestly about why body changes happen, why they can feel so confronting even when you know recovery is the right thing, and how to cope when your thoughts feel loud. We’ll explore ways to stay grounded, reduce body focus, and build tolerance for discomfort without trying to rush acceptance. You don’t have to love your body to recover. You just have to keep showing up for yourself with a bit of kindness and patience. This episode is here to remind you that you’re not alone in this, and that body changes are a sign of healing, not failure. Let me know your thoughts! In today’s episode, we’re talking about recovery in real life — not the quiet, perfectly planned version, but the messy, busy, full one. The one with work deadlines, family stuff, social plans, tired days, and not enough hours in the day. We’ll talk about how eating disorder recovery can still be possible when your schedule feels packed, why waiting for the perfect time often keeps you stuck, and how to prioritise nourishment and care without doing it perfectly. This is about letting recovery fit into your life, not the other way around. Small steps. Imperfect days. And choosing yourself even when it feels inconvenient. You’re allowed to recover while life keeps happening. Let me know your thoughts! In today’s episode, we’re talking about something that doesn’t get enough airtime in recovery — money. How eating disorders can shape the way you spend, save, restrict, or feel anxious around money. And how those patterns often stick around, even when food feels a bit more stable. We’ll chat about why eating disorders and money control are so closely linked, how fear and scarcity can show up in spending habits, and why recovery isn’t just about food — it’s about safety, trust, and self-worth too. I’ll also share some reflections from my own experience, because this is something I’ve had to unpick myself. If you’ve ever felt guilty spending money on food, support, or yourself, or noticed that financial control feels tied to your eating disorder, this episode will help you feel less alone.
