For much of the nineteenth century, people travelled across Ireland to seek the help of Biddy Early, a famous County Clare healer and clairvoyant. She was purported to 'know' why visitors had come to see her before she was ever told. Stories claimed that Biddy could see future events through a mysterious bottle, cure illnesses blamed on the fairies and even take the form of a hare. Though she was eventually accused of witchcraft, the case against her collapsed, and then after her death in 1874 the stories about her only continued, including the belief that her strange bottle had never really belonged to her at all. As summer wanes and the nights grow long, we turn to tales of witches, curses, and the old ways that never truly died. For centuries, harvest time has carried its own magic: charms for fields, blessings for homes, and darker stories of those who bent nature to their will. High in the hills of Shimla, India, an old roadside water source known as Chudail Baudi has been feared since the British Raj. Drivers say their vehicles slow down as they approach, before a woman with long hair and backwards feet appears beside the road asking for a lift. Refuse her, and according to the legend, she may just appear inside the car anyway. We explore the stories surrounding the Witch’s Well and the much older folklore of the chudail. As summer wanes and the nights grow long, we turn to tales of witches, curses, and the old ways that never truly died. For centuries, harvest time has carried its own magic: charms for fields, blessings for homes, and darker stories of those who bent nature to their will. On 15 September 1875, seventy-nine-year-old Ann Tennant left her home in the Warwickshire village of Long Compton to buy a loaf of bread. Minutes later she was attacked by agricultural labourer James Haywood, a neighbour who had become convinced that Ann and a number of other villagers were witches. His extraordinary claims would follow him from the harvest fields of Long Compton to the courtroom at Warwick and eventually to Broadmoor. As summer wanes and the nights grow long, we turn to tales of witches, curses, and the old ways that never truly died. For centuries, harvest time has carried its own magic: charms for fields, blessings for homes, and darker stories of those who bent nature to their will. Above the Warwickshire village of Long Compton stands one of England's strangest prehistoric landscapes. According to legend, the Rollright Stones are a king and his army turned to stone by a witch, while generations of local people told stories of bleeding elder trees, fairies dancing around the stones, impossible stone counts, shape-shifting witches and ancient monuments that moved after dark. Even into the twentieth century, Long Compton retained its extraordinary reputation as a village where the influence of witches was said to come and go like the full moon. As summer wanes and the nights grow long, we turn to tales of witches, curses, and the old ways that never truly died. For centuries, harvest time has carried its own magic: charms for fields, blessings for homes, and darker stories of those who bent nature to their will. During the bitter winter of 1698, Moll Dyer was driven from her home in St Mary’s County, Maryland, after local people blamed her for sickness and misfortune and accused her of witchcraft. According to the legend, she escaped her burning cabin only to freeze to death beside a large rock deep in the woods, leaving behind the impression of her hand and a curse upon those responsible. More than three hundred years later, Moll’s rock still exists, while stories of strange lights, sudden fog, shadowy figures and Moll herself continue along the road and woodland that carry her name. As summer wanes and the nights grow long, we turn to tales of witches, curses, and the old ways that never truly died. For centuries, harvest time has carried its own magic: charms for fields, blessings for homes, and darker stories of those who bent nature to their will. Late on 8 January 2004, a woman calling herself Hasumi began posting to the Japanese message board 2channel after her usual train travelled far beyond its normal route and stopped at a deserted station she had never heard of. Over the next four hours, strangers online followed her journey through tunnels, distant drums, a terrifying encounter and finally a ride with a mysterious man, until Hasumi posted one final message and disappeared from the thread. Her story would become one of Japan’s most enduring internet legends and inspired an entire genre of mysterious “otherworld stations.” The BOOK BY US A COFFEE Subscribe to our PATREON EMAIL us your stories Join us on INSTAGRAM Join us on TWITTER Join us on FACEBOOK Visit our WEBSITE Research: https://xn--u9jv84l7ea468b.com/kaidan/2wa.html https://mikanseijin.livejournal.com/986.html https://www.entetsu.co.jp/tetsudou/kisaragieki/ https://www.entetsu.co.jp/tetsudou/kisaragieki/case/ https://www.entetsu.co.jp/tetsudou/station/saginomiya.html https://toyokeizai.net/articles/-/364920 https://sanblo.com/kisaragi/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kisaragi_Station Sarah xx "Spacial Winds," Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licenced under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 Licence http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ SURVEY Hosted on Acast. In the spring of 1897, newspapers in Potter County, Pennsylvania began reporting encounters with a bizarre creature described as tall, hairy, upright and armed with long tusks. But the Nondescript was only one of many strange stories to emerge from these remote forests. From an earlier “Wild Man” near Galeton to unexplained screams, mysterious figures, phantom hitchhikers, strange lights and local monster legends, this episode explores the unsettling folklore surrounding one of Pennsylvania’s wildest and most isolated regions. High above Baguio City stands the ruined former Diplomat Hotel, a building that began life as a Dominican retreat house before becoming a wartime refuge, a Japanese stronghold and later a hotel operated by controversial faith healer Tony Agpaoa. Since its abandonment, visitors have reported footsteps, voices, wartime apparitions and mysterious religious figures moving through its empty corridors, giving Dominican Hill a reputation as one of the most haunted places in the Philippines. In 1816, snow fell in June, crops failed across Europe and North America, and thousands feared the end of the world. Known as the Year Without a Summer, this extraordinary period was caused by the catastrophic eruption of Mount Tambora a year earlier, although nobody at the time knew the true reason. As famine spread and old superstitions resurfaced, a group of writers trapped by the relentless storms at Lake Geneva created Frankenstein and The Vampyre , changing horror literature forever. For decades, people along Arkansas’s White River reported seeing an enormous grey creature moving beneath the muddy water. In 1937 the sightings sparked a full-scale monster hunt involving armed patrols, a professional diver and hundreds of spectators, before the creature returned more than thirty years later and Arkansas created an official refuge to protect it. For more than a decade, the Procter family and their visitors reported footsteps, violent knocking, moving beds and apparitions inside their home beside Willington Mill in Northumberland. The haunting became so notorious that sceptical surgeon Edward Drury spent the night there in 1840, only to leave after an encounter with a grey-clothed woman that he recorded in writing just days later. Before electric light reached the villages of rural Kerala, travellers were warned to examine every animal waiting beside the road. An unnatural bull, dog or buffalo might be an Odiyan, a practitioner of secret magic said to change shape, stalk victims through the darkness and carry out attacks for those willing to pay. Every year, as Hungry Ghost Month begins, millions of people across Asia follow traditions that have been passed down for centuries. Offerings are left beside roads, front-row seats remain empty for unseen guests, and children are warned never to whistle after dark. In this episode, we explore the urban legends that surround the seventh lunar month, from ghostly getai audiences and spirits lurking beneath the water to the mysterious sound of marbles rolling across apartment floors in the middle of the night. These are not forgotten folktales from the distant past, they are stories that continue to be told in some of the world's most modern cities.
