Wear clothing from the brand that is Always Building BMX: https://backbonebmx.com Josh Dove is a mate and someone I've known for 10+ years. He obviously kills it on a BMX bike, I've described him as a generational talent in BMX before. Now he's riding for Huffy. As someone who has spent 30 years riding BMX and well over 20 years working in the BMX industry, I share my thoughts it... and what it means for the world of BMX. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the topic.
Backbone Zone podcast is back after a hiatus and it's being changed up. A lot more focus on why I started the podcast in the first place, to explore ideas and talk abut ideas that perhaps don't get spoken about in BMX as often. All done off the cuff while I'm at the trails. This one is all about the authenticity buzzword, and reminding people to remember who they are. I'd love to get a comment from you to let me know what you think of this format. And also any thoughts you have on the topic. At one time, Alex Liiv was one of the most prominent street riders in Australia, traveling the world riding for Metal Bikes and then Bonedeth BMX, filming a plethora of insane street clips and video parts. Since that time, Alex has gone through a period of metamorphosis; changing his focus in BMX to one you may not expect. An epic conversation, Alex is a real thinker and it was great to talk to him quite deeply about a lot of subjects (although we only scratched the surface!). Trey Jones is the real deal. A pro BMX rider, Swampfest event creator and organiser, BMX collector and everything else in between, Trey is not scared to get his hands dirty in the name of building BMX in what he feels is the right way. This is exactly the chat I hoped we'd have. I hadn't spent much time talking to Trey before this, but I knew we'd get along and even though I respected him before, my respect reached new levels after this one. Trey is switched on and you can tell, he loves and cares for BMX. Podcast sponsor - Sodii Hydration: A proper Australian owned electrolyte supplement for everyday use! Every episode of The Back Bone Zone is awesome, but this one left me in awe. Seeing Ross D. Lavender's commitment to making sure Australian BMX history is documented was nothing short of amazing. Ross showed me the Unscene BMX archive, which led us into discussing Australian BMX history and everything about it, and what Ross is doing to make sure it is looked after. Please visit Ross' website below, or the BMX exhibition he has in Logan, QLD - "Progression Playground". https://unscenehistory.com/ https://www.loganarts.com.au/event/exhibition-opening-progression-playground/ We'd love to hear your thoughts on any of the topics on this episode. Buying your first home is a big commitment that is attached with a big $ figure, but imagine bypassing the home and heading straight to the backyard to see if the soil is worth building trails on. That's what Josh Cernotta did, and it has led to one of the most amazing trail spots, as well as the most notorious jams in Australian BMX history. Logan Martin is arguably the most successful competitive freestyle BMX rider of this generation, if not of all time. Olympic gold medalist, multiple time world champion, too many X-Games medals to count, Logan has done it all and yet shows no hint of slowing down. Behind the gold medals and glory is a family man who is incredibly self-motivated to achieve the 'next level' in BMX... Even if he has to create that level himself. Back Bone Zone episode 56: What a fun episode! I take on the challenge of speaking with someone completely out of BMX, by speaking with an expert in their field - Kieran Walsh. Kieran is the owner of one of Australia's most prestigious Muay Thai gyms, Muay U, and their head coach. Through going to Kieran's gym, I have learnt a lot about the positive aspects of a very similar sport/culture/lifestyle to BMX. If you are into combat sports, you will like this. If you like learning about new things, you'll like this. If you like BMX and want to contribute to its growth, you'll learn from this.
