Are you feeling distant from your spouse while living under the same roof? Frustrated by the misunderstandings or growing tension in your marriage? Do you long to feel heard and understood but can’t seem to get through to your spouse? Or maybe you simply miss feeling close, connected, and like you’re on the same team. If you can relate, you’re not alone. You can deeply love your spouse and still find yourselves caught in recurring conflict, misunderstandings, difficult conversations, or growing emotional distance. Add careers, parenting, responsibilities, major life transitions, and the pressures of everyday life, and staying connected can become harder than you imagined. Welcome to Reconnected Marriage. I’m David Haastrup, husband to my blessed and beautiful wife, Ebun, dad of three, co-author of A Couple’s First Ten Years, Christian Marriage Coach, and Conflict De-escalation Strategist. Ebun and I have been married for more than 16 years, and we know what it’s like to feel disconnected while navigating work, parenting, relocation, and unexpected life challenges. We also know what it’s like to deepen our connection and intimacy over the years. Through our marriage, my experience navigating conflict in high-pressure healthcare environments, and my work with couples, I’ve learned something important: The argument you’re having isn’t always the real issue. Sometimes, something deeper is happening beneath the words: unspoken expectations, emotional triggers, different perspectives, unresolved hurt, or patterns you may not even realize you’ve fallen into. On Reconnected Marriage, I share practical tools, biblical wisdom, and real-life lessons to help you understand what’s happening beneath conflict, respond differently when things get difficult, and restore connection. We’ll explore: How to improve communication with your spouse and handle disagreements without making things worse Why some conversations turn into conflict—and what you can do differently How to rebuild emotional and physical intimacy when life gets busy How to navigate differences in expectations, family, work, parenting, and everyday life without losing connection How to let your faith shape the way you love, communicate, forgive, and respond to your spouse At the heart of the conversations we’ll have is this: You don’t have to wait for your spouse to change before taking your next courageous step. You cannot control your spouse, but you can choose how you show up—and when one person chooses a new response, it can begin to change the way you relate to each other. Maybe you’ve quietly thought: “We love each other. So why do we keep ending up here?” “I want us to understand each other better.” “I want us to feel close again.” If that’s where you are, join me as we explore practical, faith-rooted ways to deepen your connection, experience more peace and unity at home, and begin moving toward a stronger, more connected marriage. Hi friend, Have you ever desired a deeper spiritual connection with your spouse but felt like you were the only one interested? Perhaps you've tried encouraging your spouse to pray with you, read Scripture together, or become more intentional about growing spiritually, but nothing seems to change. So, what do you do when you long for spiritual closeness, but your spouse doesn't seem to share that desire? And what role does covenant play in sustaining a marriage? Why does covenant matter more than chemistry or compatibility? Are traditional marriage vows actually rooted in Scripture? In Part One of my conversation with Dana Che, we explored what spiritual intimacy really means and some of the things that can quietly weaken it. Today, in Part Two, we're taking that conversation further. We'll explore the importance of covenant in marriage, practical ways to strengthen spiritual intimacy, and what you can do when your spouse doesn't seem equally interested—all without trying to control or change them. Let's continue the conversation. Hi friend, When you think about spiritual intimacy in marriage, what comes to mind? Praying together? Reading the Bible? Going to church together? But what if spiritual intimacy goes much deeper than these things? And is it possible for two people to love God, attend church together, and still feel spiritually disconnected from each other? Today, I’m joined by Dana Che, relationship expert, speaker, and host of the Rebuilding Us Podcast, as we explore what spiritual intimacy really means, how couples gradually lose that connection, and how unresolved hurts can affect their spiritual closeness. This is Part One of a two-part conversation, and I believe it will encourage you to take a closer look at the spiritual connection in your own marriage. Let’s get into the conversation. Hi friend! When was the last time you told your spouse something you genuinely appreciate about them? Not on their birthday or your anniversary, but simply because you noticed something good. Sometimes, we become so familiar with our spouses that we begin to overlook the very qualities we once admired about them. We may even become more attentive to what they haven’t done than to the good they continue to bring into our lives. In this special Thanksgiving episode of Reconnected Marriage, David Haastrup invites you to look at your spouse with fresh eyes, recognize the good you may have been taking for granted, and learn how to express appreciation in ways that help your spouse feel seen, valued, and loved. Because it is one thing to be thankful for your spouse. It is another thing to let your spouse experience your thankfulness. ........................................................................................... 👇 Let’s Stay Connected! Hi friend! Many couples find themselves returning to the same argument again and again. Although the subject may change, the feelings, reactions, and eventual disconnection often remain the same. Sometimes, the problem isn't simply communication. Beneath the words, reactions, and disagreements, there may be a deeper belief, fear, expectation, or assumption shaping the way we respond to our spouse. That is what we’re exploring today: how hidden beliefs can drive recurring arguments and disconnection in marriage—and what couples can begin doing about them. In this episode of the Reconnected Marriage Podcast, I’m joined by Rev. Dr. David W. Pendergrass, an author, biblical specialist, pastoral counselor, and speaker with nearly thirty years of ministry experience. Together, we explore what may be happening beneath the surface of recurring marriage conflict and why becoming aware of these deeper beliefs can be an important step toward healthier communication and deeper connection. If you and your spouse keep having the same argument over and over, this conversation may help you look at the conflict from a different perspective—and begin asking a more important question: “What might be happening beneath this argument?” Listen in as we explore how becoming aware of the beliefs beneath our reactions can become a starting point for greater understanding, healthier communication, and reconnection in marriage. Hi friend! In this special episode of Reconnected Marriage, I’m sharing a conversation from a recent invitation to speak with the Lagos Chapter of my university fellowship, NIFES CF, on a subject that is very close to my heart: Building a Lasting Marriage. A lasting marriage doesn’t simply happen because two people love each other. It is built through the decisions we make, the beliefs we carry, the way we respond to one another, and most importantly, through our willingness to allow God to shape us along the way. In this conversation, I reflect on some of the principles that help couples build a marriage they can continue to enjoy through different seasons of life. Whether you’re married, engaged, or simply becoming more intentional about the marriage you’re building, I believe there will be something in this conversation for you. As you listen, consider this question: What am I doing today to help build the marriage I want to still be enjoying years from now? This conversation was originally recorded live over Zoom, so you may notice that the audio feels a little different from our regular episodes. Listen with an open heart, reflect on your own marriage as you listen, and consider what building a lasting marriage looks like for you. ............................................................................................ 👇 Let’s Stay Connected! On this podcast, I’ll bring lessons from our own marriage, years of navigating conflict in healthcare leadership, and my work with couples, alongside biblical wisdom you can put into practice. Every episode comes back to restoring closeness with your spouse. And you can begin without waiting for your spouse to change first. You can’t choose their response, but you can take responsibility for yours. Let’s take the next step toward a stronger, more connected marriage. Welcome to Reconnected Marriage. Restore closeness with your spouse… even in the early years.

Hi friend, Have you ever found yourself feeling irritated by your spouse, even though they are a good person, a faithful spouse, and someone who has done nothing terribly wrong? Maybe they reach for your hand and you pull away. Maybe they ask, “What’s wrong?” and you simply say, “I’m tired.” But quietly, you start wondering: “Am I tired—or am I tired of you?” That can be a frightening question, especially when you know you have a good spouse. But before you conclude that you married the wrong person or that your love is gone, perhaps there is another question worth asking: What if this feeling is not only telling me something about my spouse? What if it is also revealing something happening within me? In this episode, we begin a two-part conversation about something many married people experience but may feel ashamed to admit: feeling tired of a good spouse. We’ll explore some of the reasons you may feel this way and how what is happening within you can sometimes affect how you experience your marriage. So if you’ve been feeling distant, irritated, disconnected, or unsure about your feelings toward your spouse, this episode is for you. Hi friend! Today, we’re diving into one of those topics that might feel a little uncomfortable—but that’s exactly why it’s so important to talk about. Every marriage has its ups and downs. And sometimes, without even realizing it, we slip into habits that slowly create distance instead of building connection. In this episode, we’re talking about a few things husbands often wish their wives would stop doing—not because they’re trying to control or complain, but because they truly care. They’re longing to feel closer, more understood, and more at peace in the relationship. This isn’t about blame or finger-pointing—it’s about understanding each other better and growing together. So, whether you’re listening on your own or with your spouse, take a deep breath and lean in with an open heart. Some of it might sting a little—but it just might open the door to something really beautiful. ............................................................................................................................ 👇 Let’s Stay Connected! 📖 Get your copy of our book: A Couple’s First Ten Years Available on Amazon: https://mybook.to/ACouplesFirstTenYears 📧 Got questions or just want to say hi?
