This podcast focuses on weather, especially extremes, and the way it interacts with forecasting. Much of the podcast focuses on the U.S.A. Local Chicago weather is sometimes included. Often a weather synopsis is given for the Midwest. Sometimes a weather synopsis is also given for the East Coast or West Coast. Occasionally, a synopsis is given for other locations within the United States, including the Gulf Coast. Good morning. Before we begin today’s episode, I want to explain something. Episodes like the one you are about to hear are phenomenal—not only because of their accuracy, but also because of the explanations behind the forecast. That becomes especially important as we approach the winter season and begin dealing with complex winter storms. It is also valuable during thunderstorms and lake-breeze events, particularly in the spring. When the weather is sunny and warm, you can probably listen to almost any reputable weather source and receive a reasonably accurate forecast. However, winter storms, thunderstorms, and lake breezes are much more complicated. If you want a truly accurate understanding of what is going to happen, it is essential to know the details. The National Weather Service will often state clearly that forecasters do not know with certainty exactly what will happen. They may not know precisely where the rain-to-snow line will develop, where thunderstorms will form—or whether they will form at all—or exactly where a backdoor cold front will move during the spring. That is why these Chicago-area morning podcasts are so valuable. Although some of the episodes are produced using artificial intelligence, they are fact-checked and supervised by me. They are not simply generated by AI and released without oversight. These episodes are highly informative, but for them to continue consistently, they need greater financial support. At the moment, the subscription costs only two dollars per month. Listening to the advertisements also provides some support, although it is minimal. The subscription price may eventually increase significantly. For example, at five dollars per month, the cost would be approximately one dollar and twenty-five cents per week. In return, you would receive accurate and detailed weather information on your way to work. You could read the forecast discussion yourself, but it contains many complicated terms. It is also simply more enjoyable to listen to a thoughtful explanation. For members of the Orthodox Jewish community, these episodes include zmanim as well. They may also include children’s activities in the Chicago area and other useful information. Because of everything included, the podcast is worth more than five dollars per month. However, the immediate goal is to receive enough support for the podcast to continue consistently. Chicago is a large city, and if enough people subscribe, even a two-dollar monthly subscription could provide sufficient support. The episodes cost money to produce, but they also require a significant amount of time. The episodes I personally record require particularly substantial preparation and effort. I have produced daily episodes in the past, and I believe they offer something that AI-generated content cannot provide: the experience of hearing a human voice. There is something humanizing and meaningful about listening to someone who is passionate about a subject. Everyone has areas of interest that they care deeply about. Some people are passionate about science or mathematics; my passion happens to be weather. When that enthusiasm comes through, it adds something special to the presentation. The AI-generated episodes are extremely informative, while the episodes I personally record offer information along with a human perspective and a sense of passion. Both types of episodes have value. The detailed episodes carefully review and explain the forecast discussions for the Chicago area. They help listeners understand not only what is expected to happen, but also how confident forecasters are and what alternative possibilities may exist. For example, rather than simply hearing that a storm will produce six to twelve inches of snow, you might learn that six to twelve inches is the most likely outcome, but that one to three inches is also possible. You may also hear that forecasters are uncertain whether the lake will enhance snowfall or reduce it in a particular area. These details are often missing from a standard public forecast. A public forecast usually has to present one primary outcome. If the forecast calls for higher snow totals near the lake and the actual totals end up being lower, people may be surprised. However, if you read the full forecast discussion, you may discover that forecasters had already discussed both possibilities. That is what makes these episodes so different. The zmanim are also extremely helpful. Sometimes people are tired or half-asleep in the morning and need to know important times, such as sof zman Kriat Shema. They may not be in a position to look at a screen. Being able to listen and receive the necessary information is both convenient and enjoyable. I hope people will consider subscribing to the podcast. Right now, it costs only two dollars per month, although the price may eventually increase to at least five dollars. It is possible that people have difficulty finding or accessing the subscription option. If there is some technical issue or if the process is unclear, please let me know so it can be addressed. The value of this information becomes especially apparent during the winter season. Chicago has experienced phenomenal snowstorms in November, and there have even been significant snow events in late October. From October through April, the podcast can provide substantial value. It also remains useful during the spring because of lake-breeze events and during the summer because of thunderstorms. You may hear about thunderstorms on WBBM, and I believe they do a very good job. However, they generally do not explain the complexities in the same way this podcast does. They also do not provide zmanim, children’s activities, and the other community-focused information included here. I recognize that I benefit from people subscribing to the podcast, so I understand that I am not completely unbiased. At the same time, I genuinely believe that the podcast provides significant value. I subscribe to services related to my own interests, and they often cost several dollars per month. I believe this podcast deserves similar consideration. People may simply not realize how valuable the information is, particularly during complex weather events.
