David and Kathi Peters return to the podcast almost three years after their first appearance (Episode 116), this time to talk about the documentary they've spent that time filming. It releases September 25 as a streaming premiere on Redeem TV. David is still living with stage IV metastatic prostate cancer. The growth has slowed but continued to spread, and he has since gone through radiation on his spine, sacrum, and prostate, a shift away from the purely natural approach they hoped would be enough toward a blend of traditional and integrative care. They talk candidly about the parts of the journey that didn't make it into a tidy ending, the fear, the disappointing test results, and the isolation that can creep in even inside a strong community. Kathi speaks openly about caregiver burnout and the discipline of caring for herself, through red light therapy, sauna, exercise, and simple things like a cup of coffee with a friend, so she has something left to give. David shares how a newer clinic in Tennessee has brought encouraging results and how living with purpose, rooted in their faith, has shaped how they've faced this diagnosis. It's an honest look at what a cancer journey actually looks like when it doesn't wrap up neatly, and a reminder that showing up for each other, and for God, matters more than having all the answers. HealingStrong's mission is to educate, equip and empower our group leaders and group participants through their journey with cancer or other chronic illnesses, and know there is HOPE. Mark Mateya, a Carlisle, Pennsylvania attorney and former studio musician, was diagnosed with large B-cell lymphoma after a routine biopsy on a small arm growth came back malignant. After a rocky first appointment with an oncologist who initially confused his chart with another patient's and warned that forgoing chemo would be "suicide," Mark declined chemotherapy and found Chris Wark's Square One program and Healing Strong. He shifted to a whole-food, plant-based diet with juicing, reduced stress by selling his law practice (while staying on part-time), and pursued a mix of therapies including RGCC/SOT (a blood-based treatment through a lab in Greece) and multiple visits to the Immunity Therapy Center in Tijuana. He's candid that he does not have a formal NED diagnosis, but reports his circulating tumor cell count has dropped from 2.8 to 1.4 over roughly three and a half years. Mark credits his faith and connection with fellow Healing Strong leader Karen McKeon/Maxson for keeping him grounded early on, and now leads a Healing Strong group in Carlisle, where he originated the "Heal-a-Thon" fundraiser (modeled loosely on Penn State's THON) to raise money and awareness for the organization. The episode closes with his message to newly diagnosed listeners: they are not alone, cancer is not a death sentence, and they have time to think, pray, and take responsibility for their health. We have made it to the final podcast of the Top 10 Tour, celebrating 100,000 downloads. We're revisiting our most-downloaded conversations ever: Jim's talk with John A. Richardson Jr. John shares the story of his father, Dr. John Richardson Sr., who left a conventional medical career in the 1970s to treat cancer patients with laetrile, a compound found in apricot seeds. He walks through his father's clinic, the patients he treated, the raids and lawsuits that followed, and how that legacy became John's own life's work through Richardson Nutritional Center and Operation World Without Cancer. Jim also shares a piece of his own story, a stage four melanoma diagnosis in 2016 and a recent scan that came back clear. Together they talk about faith, trials, and staying hopeful in the middle of a hard diagnosis. HealingStrong's mission is to educate, equip and empower our group leaders and group participants through their journey with cancer or other chronic illnesses, and know there is HOPE. The Top 10 Tour continues with one of our most-downloaded conversations of all time. John Richardson — president of the Richardson Nutritional Center and Operation World Without Cancer — joins Jim Mann to tell a story that's been in his family for over fifty years. His father, Dr. John A. Richardson, became a Bay Area folk hero in the 1970s for offering laetrile to his patients, and a national headline in June 1972 when his clinic was raided. The arrest didn't end the movement — John says it started one, leading to G. Edward Griffin's book World Without Cancer and a grassroots network that grew to a million members strong. John walks Jim through the science as he understands it: what amygdalin is, why he believes the cyanide warnings have been overstated, and what his father documented in Laetrile Case Histories . He also opens up about the family business, where the seeds are grown, and why he believes this story is finally getting a hearing. Jim also shares his own first encounter with apricot seeds after his 2016 stage four melanoma diagnosis. HealingStrong's mission is to educate, equip and empower our group leaders and group participants through their journey with cancer or other chronic illnesses, and know there is HOPE. After being diagnosed with cancer as a young man, Chris turned to research, whole food nutrition, and radical lifestyle change, and has spent the years since helping others do the same. In this conversation, Chris and Jim talk about what he calls the "beat cancer mindset": taking full personal responsibility for your health, forgiving yourself and others, and choosing daily to trust God with your fear instead of letting it drive the journey. Chris opens up about the early days after his diagnosis, reading George Malkmus's God's Way to Ultimate Health, converting to a raw food diet almost overnight, and searching for confirmation that he wasn't just following "some quack." He and Jim talk candidly about faith under pressure, the discipline of forgiveness, why gratitude functions like a "superpower," and how a cancer diagnosis can turn life "from black and white to color." Chris also shares how becoming a father mid-treatment gave him a new reason to fight, and why community, not a single expert, is what actually gets people through. Whether you're newly diagnosed, walking alongside someone who is, or simply working on your own health, this episode is a reminder that the most powerful tools for healing (diet, movement, faith, and forgiveness) cost nothing but your willingness to change. Julie DeKam was diagnosed with stage 3 invasive ductal carcinoma in December 2015 after insurance requirements delayed proper imaging and a thermography doctor misread her lump as hormonal. She underwent a double mastectomy and six rounds of chemo, then discovered Chris Wark's Square One program and fired her oncologist when he pushed further treatment. She went all-in on a plant-based, holistic protocol (juicing, coffee enemas, supplements, detox work) alongside naturopathic care, and her hormone markers normalized within a year. She later joined Chris Wark's support team, where she's worked since 2017. She also shares how her cancer journey and a difficult divorce deepened her trust in God's sovereignty, and how she eventually remarried. Dr. Kelly Turner (PhD, Radical Remission & Radical Hope author) joins Jim to discuss her 15 years researching unexplained cancer recoveries. After discovering 1,000+ documented "spontaneous remission" cases in medical journals, she found these healings aren't random. Survivors share 10 common factors (diet, exercise, stress reduction, intuition, positive emotions, and more) that boost the immune system, working alongside conventional treatment rather than replacing it. Kelly and Jim talk about why this research often falls outside oncologists' focus, the science behind laughter and immunity, and how these same healing factors have shown up in recoveries from ALS, Alzheimer's, and HIV. A hopeful, science-grounded conversation about the body's capacity to heal. This is a Healing Strong podcast episode featuring Kathy Gilkey, a Florida-based follicular lymphoma survivor. Kathy was diagnosed with follicular lymphoma in 2017 after finding a lump under her arm. She declined chemo and radiation, instead following a protocol from a fire captain whose wife had stage four kidney cancer: 100 days of juicing (about 90% greens with apple), no solid food. Her tumor shrank from a 4 to a 1, and her oncologist told her to keep doing what she was doing. After moving from California to Arkansas, the stress and emotional upheaval of leaving her home church and community led to depression, and the cancer returned as a spinal tumor. She did 10 rounds of radiation but had a severe reaction when starting chemo (throat closing, numbness) and stopped, returning to diet-based healing plus emotional/inner healing counseling. She's now been in remission for three months, with oncologist visits every six months. Other points covered: she still juices (using an inexpensive Black & Decker juicer, running pulp through twice for more yield), largely avoids sugar and carbs while having added back some meat and fruit, and her husband hasn't adopted her diet but is supportive and healthy in his own way (they cook separate meals). Her background as a florist exposed her to chemical sprays, and she later became a church counselor. She's now launching a new Healing Strong support group in Englewood, Florida, hosted at a faith-based community facility called EPIC. She closes by encouraging newly diagnosed listeners with Jeremiah 29:11 and a message of trusting God and avoiding negativity. Dr. Jimenez cites a 2024 Lancet study reporting a 79% rise in cancer among young adults globally between 1990 and 2019, with a 28% increase in deaths, across 17 cancer types. He attributes this to environmental toxins, obesity, diet, and early-life exposures, and names three top toxicities he targets in treatment: aluminum, glyphosate, and EMF radiation. He walks through daily detox practices (coffee enemas, shilajit, hydrogen water) and practical EMF-reduction steps (Wi-Fi off at night, phone away from the bed, grounding sheets). He explains when Hope4Cancer still uses chemo, radiation, or surgery — low-dose IPT chemo for tumor debulking, targeted "spot radiation" for pain control, and stents for obstructions — despite the clinic's non-toxic-first philosophy. He then details the clinic's "seven key principles," spending the most time on emotional/spiritual health (his upcoming book, Emotions and Cancer, out March 2025) and introduces Davida, a new five-part bioimmunotherapy meant to upregulate the immune system without targeting specific cancer-cell receptors (unlike checkpoint inhibitors such as Opdivo/Keytruda). Host Jim, a stage IV melanoma survivor, shares his own remission story, and Dr. Jimenez recommends he ask his oncologist about the Signatera circulating-tumor-cell test for ongoing monitoring. Part of the Top 10 Tour: 100K Strong When David Peters was diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer, he and his wife Kathi made an immediate decision: go all-natural. As professional filmmakers, they're now documenting their own healing journey — including treatment at Hope4Cancer in Mexico, biological dentistry to remove mercury amalgams, and the RGCC ("Greek") test that pinpoints which supplements are actually working. Recorded live at Healing Strong's 10th anniversary conference in Houston, this conversation covers the fear of going against an oncologist's orders, the emotional toll (and unexpected gift) of a diagnosis, why community is essential on a healing journey, and what it means to choose to heal rather than fight. David and Kathi also share how their upcoming documentary aims to answer the three questions every newly diagnosed person asks: Can I do it? How do I do it? Will it help me? This episode originally aired as part of our regular series and is being re-shared as one of the most-loved conversations from the I Am Healing Strong podcast archive. What if healing depends as much on your mindset and spirit as it does on your treatment plan? In this episode, host Jim Mann sits down with Dr. Francisco Contreras, who is the director, president, and chairman of Oasis of Hope Hospital in Tijuana, Mexico. He talks about his new book, The Art and Science of Undermining Cancer . Dr. Contreras shares the philosophical foundations his father built the hospital on 60 years ago, explains where chemotherapy and immunotherapy each earn their place in treatment, and dives into cutting-edge developments like dendritic cell vaccines and CAR T-cell therapy. But the heart of this conversation is bigger than protocols: it's about fear, faith, and why Dr. Contreras believes every improved outcome, big or small, is a miracle that has to be maintained. Jim also shares more of his own stage-four melanoma journey and how his mindset shifted after diagnosis. Summary: Brad Corley was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer (Gleason 9) on December 10, 2021 — one day after retiring from a 38-year career. After bone scans and consultation with a New Orleans oncologist, the cancer was deemed metastatic and incurable but treatable; doctors gave him a 3-7 year outlook. Brad and his wife Becky had already begun shifting toward healthier living before the diagnosis, and immediately doubled down — adopting a raw, plant-based diet and daily carrot juicing (inspired by Chris Beat Cancer/Square One) starting just two days after the diagnosis. Brad underwent hormone therapy and surgery through an MD Anderson clinical trial. Over two and a half years, he dropped from about 240 to about 170 pounds, regained energy, and his oncologist reportedly told him he shows no evidence of disease. The couple credits their faith, gratitude practice, and community support — they started a Healing Strong group in Mobile, Alabama, with around 12-15 regular members, many of whom don't have cancer but joined proactively. The episode closes with their message to newly diagnosed listeners: lean on faith, build a supportive community, and pursue lifestyle changes alongside medical treatment. Naturopathic doctor Jennifer Gramith joins Jim to demystify the lymphatic system — a network most people only associate with cancer surgery and lymph node removal. She explains how the lymphatic system serves as the body's primary filtration and immune defense, why a "congested" lymph system contributes to fatigue, allergies, and chronic illness, and how assisted lymphatic therapy works to clear blockages and calm the nervous system. The conversation also covers her own background moving from conventional nursing to naturopathic practice, real patient stories involving lymphedema and cancer recovery, and her perspective on addressing emotional trauma as part of the healing process. Melissa Rausch of Simi Valley, California, was diagnosed in 2019 with triple-positive breast cancer, one of the more aggressive types, and did everything her doctors told her to do. She endured 16 weeks of hard chemo, hospitalizations, a lumpectomy with unclear margins, and radiation with severe side effects. Then in November 2020, the cancer spread to her bones and her oncologist said the word she wasn't ready to accept: terminal. Instead of giving up, Melissa said "with all due respect" and started knocking on other doors. She dove into books, found holistic practitioners, overhauled her diet overnight, and eventually connected with Chris Wark's Square One program and the Healing Strong community. Through a dual path of faith, integrative care, and persistent self-advocacy, including fighting her own oncologist to return to a treatment that had actually worked. Melissa is now in complete remission. She co-founded and now leads the HealingStrong group in Simi Valley, praying for each member by name daily. Jutta Thorsness, a German-born Idaho resident and Healing Strong group leader, shares the winding journey that led to her triple-negative breast cancer diagnosis It began with sleepless nights caring for her ailing mother overseas, a mysterious lump on her ribcage, and a German healthcare system that wanted her in chemo before she could ask a question. Jutta shares how she declined all three oncologists who fear-mongered and patronized. Instead, she followed God's leading through high-dose IV vitamin C, ozone therapy, fenbendazole, and most dramatically, the removal of four severely infected root canals that a Portland specialist said contained pathogen levels so aggressive that chemo could have killed her. She also opens up about the spiritual roots of her illness, the work of forgiving her aunt, and how God spent eight months teaching her to replace fear with His Word. After a third surgery declared her cancer-free, Jutta now leads her local Healing Strong group and teaches others how to ward off the spirit of fear. Ashleigh Lindemann spent 17 years in pain before anyone could tell her why. Starting at age 15 with what turned out to be endometriosis, she navigated misdiagnoses, eight prescription medications out of Cleveland Clinic, and 17 surgeries, including the hip surgery that finally uncovered the answer hiding in plain sight. Refusing to accept a lifetime on Cymbalta and Neurontin, Ashleigh took the slow, determined road toward natural healing — and eventually found PEMF therapy (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field therapy), a technology she describes as earthing and grounding "on steroids." Now the owner of Pulse for Life LLC in Post Falls, Idaho, Ashleigh uses PEMF, red light therapy, and hyperbaric oxygen to help clients reduce inflammation, accelerate healing, and give their cells the energy God designed them to run on. David Sanders was a young, active guy from Atlanta, a biology major turned nonprofit professional turned MBA, when years of mysterious, unexplained symptoms finally led to a diagnosis in 2018: Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis, a rare disease most commonly seen in infants. For David, it had already progressed through multiple systems in his body. The diagnosis, as scary as it was, was almost a relief, because at least now he knew what he was fighting. After six months of chemotherapy that wasn't working well, David hit a pivot point. He reached out for help spiritually, emotionally, and holistically. That's when he connected with Healing Strong founder Susie, began working with a holistic doctor, started HBOT therapy, overhauled his nutrition, and leaned into detox protocols to help his body survive the chemo itself. Within months, his scans cleared. By early 2020, just before COVID, he had finished his last round of chemo. Now living in Greenville, SC, David serves as the youngest board member of Healing Strong, bringing his nonprofit management background and his own cancer journey to help the organization reach more people with hope and practical support. In this conversation, he and Jim talk about what it means to fight something you can't name, why hope isn't just emotional but tactical, and why young voices in the cancer community matter more than ever. Julia Chiappetta was at the peak of her career, running a high-pressure consulting business, traveling the globe, when a diagnosis of stage 2B infiltrating ductal carcinoma and lupus stopped everything. Rather than follow the conventional path her oncologist demanded, Julia leaned into prayer, deep research, and a rigorous integrative protocol: a 30-day water fast, raw food veganism, juicing, the Gerson protocol, detoxing her home of every chemical and synthetic product, and rebuilding her sleep and stress habits from the ground up. A trip to MD Anderson, facilitated by a cousin on staff, became a turning point when Dr. Marek Ross told her that her bloodwork had nearly normalized in just 90 days. A lumpectomy with clean margins followed, and Julia has been thriving for 26 years. She now helps carry the legacy of the Annie Appleseed Project, the organization founded by her late friend Ann Fonfa, providing free education and advocacy to anyone navigating a cancer diagnosis. Janet Everhart, Director of Volunteer Programs at HealingStrong, joins host Jim Mann for a conversation that's equal parts practical guide and heartfelt encouragement. As the face behind the video curriculum and a nine-year veteran of the organization, Janet breaks down exactly what it takes to start and lead a Healing Strong support group, and spoiler: it's less than you think. She walks through the 12-lesson curriculum, the leader resources, the monthly support calls, mentors, chaplains, and prayer teams available to every group leader. She and Jim also discuss what makes HealingStrong groups different: the faith component, the holistic pillars, and the sense of community that makes people feel like they're at Disney World rather than fighting cancer. From meeting in a coffee shop to Zooming in from Nigeria or Trinidad and Tobago, this episode makes clear that if your area doesn't have a group, that might be your sign to start one. Lisa Beck, a fitness-focused director of operations from Keller, Texas, was so healthy she wasn't even nervous about her biopsy. The call telling her she had endometrial cancer stopped her in her tracks. What followed was two years of navigating conflicting diagnoses (serous vs. endometrioid cancer), doctors eager to remove everything they could, and her own fierce determination to slow down and make informed decisions. She sought opinions at Texas Oncology, MD Anderson, and Memorial Sloan Kettering, eventually discovered a BRCA1 mutation, and pursued integrative treatments in Tijuana alongside conventional care. Three years cancer-free, Lisa now leads a HealingStrong group in Keller and is newly addicted to pickleball.
