In this episode, Cherise is joined by Paul Murdoch, Founder and President of Paul Murdoch Architects in Los Angeles, California. They discuss the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. This episode is particularly meaningful as this year marks the 25th anniversary of 9/11. You can see the project here as you listen along. The Flight 93 National Memorial transforms a former reclaimed strip mine in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, into a 2,200-acre landscape of remembrance, reflection, and environmental healing. Rather than imposing a singular monument on the site, the design unfolds as a carefully choreographed memorial landscape, including the 93-foot-tall Tower of Voices, which holds 40 wind chimes representing the 40 individuals aboard Flight 93. As wind passes through the tower, aluminum chimes of varying lengths respond with different tones, creating an ever-changing acoustic presence.
